Confusion was the only word that described how Shawn felt reading the letter that came in by owl. He couldn’t remember signing up for any blind dating event from Blishwick but here was a letter stating he did and where he was suppose to go. He spend sometime racking his brain to try and remember when he would have done such a thing. Finally coming to the conclusion that he hadn’t. It must have been one of his friends messing with him. It sounded like something that would happen to him after all. Just start dating someone and get roped into going onto a blind date. Shawn debating ignoring it, he didn’t have to go obviously. It might seem rude to Jimbo but he could always owl back saying it was a mistake. That’s the right thing for him to do after all? He was asking himself now more unsure than anything. It wasn’t that he actually wanted to date someone else besides Callisto. He was having more fun with her than anything else in his life and enjoying every moment. Also there was more to it than just fun but right now he had another things to think about.
Still someone else had been paired with him and while Shawn himself had no interest in someone else they would still be waiting. Worse they would be stood up alone and probably feeling terrible about that fact as well. He couldn’t just let some stranger feel terrible about something like this could he? Yes, he could but he knew he’d feel terrible about it every time it crossed his mind. Besides whatever this Hot tug thing was it sounded interesting enough to try and he would just have to make it clear somehow that nothing was going to happen.
Later that day just as night was about to fall Shawn found himself on the pier both waiting for his blind date and the boat to be ready. This was going to be awkward but hopefully they could just be friends or not hit it off at all. It would save him from explaining that he only came so another person wouldn’t feel bad. As long as it wasn’t someone who would know Callisto it should all be fine, he doubted she would get jealous or anything but this would still be difficult to explain.

Mina was hyped. Today was the blind date day! Or night rather. When she had first received the response back that she had been matched and that there was already a location for the date, she was ecstatic. Obviously she had been hoping for a day time date so that she could still go drinking afterwards if it was a bad one. The odds of that were split fifty-fifty. Either she was going to absolutely adore the person and be a future candidate, or annoy the hell out of them. Depended on who they were and what they were like. The blind dates that she had participated in on prior occasions had never worked as well as she had hoped, and for a while she was starting to wonder if it was easier to pick someone up at a bar than to go on an endless amount of dates. That and muggles were far easier to escape from the next morning. She never had to see them again, and if she did, well she had ways of slipping away from them that probably weren’t the safest when it came to keeping magic safety. She had seen young witches and wizards do dumber things than she had though, so it was all good. While Mina knew she would eventually end up with a magical significant other, these dates weren’t the time or place to find that person. They were so she could get a free lunch, dinner, or drinks out of Mr. Blishwick. Clearly he hadn’t caught on yet, or just felt really sorry for her. His pity was her wallet thanking him.
The event for today’s date was not a meal though, as she had hoped. Instead, she and her date were supposed to go on the water in some kind of hot tub boat thingy. Mina had scrolled through the internet to see what that was exactly and was surprised to see that drinks were available, though she was sure Blishwick wouldn’t be paying for anything past the initial tickets. They also had a private boat, which was something she hadn’t expected, so that would make it all the more fun to chat her date up. If they wanted to escape, all they would have to do was jump ship. Literally.
At the designated time, Mina found herself walking up to the pier that they were supposed to be setting off from. Aside from the clearly marked employees, there was only one other person standing there, and Mina practically lost it. She had forgotten that when she had signed herself up, she had duplicated the application and sent one in for Shawn as well. And there he was, standing on the dock waiting for her. There was no way he was there for any other reason than to be her blind date. That Mr. Blishwick knew what he was doing after all! Speedily walking up to Shawn, she slid next to him, a grin on her face. “Hello there handsome. Fancy seeing you here. Looks like you’ll be getting two for the price of one from now on,” Mina said in reference to when Shawn had dragged her sister back home when she was extremely drunk one night. That was one of the reasons Mina had entered his name into the blind dating. Mostly to mess with Callisto. “Cal must have scared you something fierce to get you to sign up this. I’ll apologize for that on her behalf.”

Shawn hadn’t been waiting long but already he was toying with the idea that maybe his date wouldn’t show. That would solve plenty of problems for him. Personally his feelings wouldn't be hurt and he wouldn’t worry about the other persons anymore either. They chose not to show not him. He also wouldn’t have to worry about the fact that he was already dating someone and trying to explain that to some stranger. Really it was the best possible outcome that he hadn’t thought of till just now while he watched the employees do there preparation for setting off. Still Blishwich was paying for the use of the boat so at least if no one came he could still attempt to enjoy it.
It wasn’t till he heard a familiar voice near by did he come back to reality. Away from his thoughts of how he would get out of this mess in a perfect world. Looking next to him to see Mina was the one speaking and he just laughed a little. His mind didn’t totally processes just what was happening for moment. “I, no I.. I was just.. wait so you’re who I was matched with?” Obviously she was but his brain didn’t want to comprehend that at the moment. “I guess that rules out Callisto ever finding out about this.” He added finally putting the pieces together. Mina spoke blaming Callisto for making him sign up for the blind date. “No, actually I didn’t sign up for this. I can only assume it was a friend trying to get revenge for something.” He explained not just to answer her but more to make his case about why he was here to begin with. “So on a scale of one to ten how awkward do you plan on making this?” Never the less he was still himself and all this craziness wasn’t going to stop him from making a joke somewhere.

The awkward laugh Shawn let out upon seeing she was his date was adorable. Catching people off guard on a normal day was fun enough as it was; this took the cake and the first place trophy easily. And it was exponentially better for her because she knew that it was all because she had sent his name into the matchmaking services that this date was even happening in the first place. There weren’t many times where her practical jokes came back to her in a fun way. Already she could tell that this was not only going to be one of her more interesting dates as of late, but that she was definitely going to be able to get dirt on her sister. There weren’t too many times in the past few months that Mina had seen Callisto go out, and with friends at that (friends being Mina’s substitute word for Callisto’s casual acquaintances), but Shawn had managed to get that boring sister of hers out and having fun. Mina had thought that was impossible. Clearly she was wrong. “Well, the only people here are you and me, so yeah, I guess I was matched with you,” she said, still grinning at him.
He said something about Callisto finding out about the date and Mina shrugged her shoulders. “She doesn’t have to know about everything I do in my life. As far as she’s concerned, I’m completely trashed in a club snogging someone I pulled off the streets because I wanted a little action to make my friends jealous.” Mina hadn’t mentioned the blind dating things to Callisto because that would make it look like she was ready to settle down, and she was definitely not ready to anything of the sort. That would either be never, or another decade from now. Right now, Cal probably did think her younger sister was getting hammered and trying to hook up with randoms. Years of seeing the aftermath would make anyone believe that the second youngest Oliveira would be doing the obvious. Not tonight though. She was being good for once.
“Are your friends the type to do that?” Mina asked him curiously as he said that he hadn’t signed up for it himself. If she could pin the blame on them for as long as possible, that would be another great reveal. Blishwick had the same kind of humor that she did, because there was no way that this wasn’t set up on purpose. She didn’t even change her hand writing between the two of the submissions, and had sent them attached to the same owl, albeit on different days. It wouldn’t have taken a genius to figure it out. Shaw asked her how awkward she was going to make the date, and Mina placed her hand on her face as she thought about it for a second. “Depends. I could make you extremely uncomfortable during the tour, or we could treat this as friends getting drinks and talking about their mutual interests.” Mutual interests being Callisto. Mina had a whole slew of embarrassing stories to tell Shawn if he was up for that. And if he wasn’t, she would tell him anyways.

Mina explained how it was just her and him here so she must be his date. He could only laugh once more at how this whole situation had played out. He had to give it to Blishwich he supposed, either his matchmaking was off by one sister or this was one weird coincidence. Taking a moment to wonder if Callisto had signed up for this would they have been matched. Still that didn’t matter, like Callisto would have signed up for something like this. His mind did wonder a little further into his thoughts, what if she had, who would she have gotten matched with after all. Still that did matter he had other things to focus on. “You have a point.” Shawn just smiled back noticing the grin on Mina’s face. It was obvious she was going to have fun with this and he couldn’t really blame her. “I’ll try to have you back at a reasonable hour, we all know how serious your sister can be.”
Shawn smiled a little as Mina explained how Callisto didn’t have to know about this as she didn’t need to know every detail of her life. “It’s not so much I don’t want her to know, I just don’t really know how she would react to me being on a blind date I didn’t even sign up for.” He explained with a small laugh, this was still as awkward as this could be but it was slowly getting better. Possibly this date being Callisto's sister might work out. At least she would already know he was dating someone unlike a complete stranger. Someone else he would have to explain that detail too.
“Some of them certainly are and I can’t really blame them. I’ve pulled enough pranks on them. I’m bound to get some pay back here and there.” Still even if he was sure it was one of his friends he didn’t know who for sure. He hadn’t really told many he had just started dating someone. Either it was one of the few he had told or it was just a coincidence someone picked now to sign him up for blind dating. Mina explained how she could make this very uncomfortable for him or they could just have fun and talk. He was mere seconds from asking how she was going to make things uncomfortable, yet he didn’t want to know and thankfully he stopped himself. “Sign me up for drinks with a friend and talking.”

Obviously she had a point. She always had a point, even if she knew she was completely wrong. That was what made her the way she was. Shawn said he’d get her back at a reasonable hour, and Mina let out an awkward laugh sound, but without the whole laugh. “She would be more serious if I came back earlier than normal than if I didn’t come back. The questioning would be endless, and she would totally think something is wrong with me.” There had been times like that, where she wasn’t feeling the drinking or socializing thing all that much, and went home right after work. If she got back after Callisto, there was always the odd glance her way, like she was deathly sick or not right in the head. Mina didn’t think it was all that strange to not want to be totally trashed every night of the week. That’s what the next day was for anyways. Her liver and wallet needed a break every once in a while.
“But if you think you need to bring me home early, I suppose I could let you. Callisto might be surprised to see you with me though,” she sighed dramatically. “Could always say I found you on the way home.” That seemed like a decent cover, instead of the whole ‘we went on a date!’ alternative. She didn’t care what Cal thought and was pretty sure Shawn wasn’t the type to get hung up on a misunderstanding like this. If worse came to worse, she would spill the beans about being the one to enter his name. That would suck, but Shawn was cool, and having him around meant she could get away with a lot more without repercussions. As for how her sister would react to the whole thing…“She might think riding around in a hot-tub boat, half-naked and getting drunk with her sister is too much. But this has also never happened before, so I’m not really sure what her reaction would be,” Mina shrugged as she finished her explanation. There was no telling what would happen.
Mina maintained her smile as Shawn said that he had plenty of friends that would want to get back at him for things he had done in the past, and that this wasn’t out of the realm of possibility for them. That was perfect. As long as he kept thinking that and she could keep her mouth shut about it, she was in the clear. Then again, she was sure he wouldn’t care all that much in the end. It was the inevitable lecture by Callisto that scared her more. She got tired of listening to those on a daily basis, mostly for little things that didn’t really matter. Like picking up her laundry off the floor, or cleaning the dishes. All Cal had to do was flick her wand and it would be done. More time was spent complaining about things than just getting it done with.
Shawn chose the second option, and Mina flashed a smile at him. “Perfect! Making people uncomfortable gets boring after a while. And I don’t think it would work well on you.” Probably because they had a similar sense of humor, and trying to creep out a comedian was almost impossible. They were already weird enough as it was. “Shall we then? I think all we have to do is change and then hop into that boat they’re getting ready over there,” Mina said, pointing at the lone vessel sitting at the end of the dock. It seemed like Blishwick had set them up with a private boat all on their lonesome. How romantic of him. “Meet you over there in five?” she asked before heading off to the women’s changing area to put her bathing suit on.

Mina explained how Callisto would find it strange if she had come home early. That did sound about right, if Callisto was used to her being out late it would make her question it a little. As much as he wasn’t trying to hide anything from Callisto this just seemed like something a little too hard to explain. Especially to someone who he had just started dating. “Well I don’t want you to be hounded with questions. I never thought Callisto to be the nosy type.” Shawn laughed for a moment not expecting Callisto to question someone so much but this was her sister after all. It probably did give her the right to do so.
“There’s no need to rush you home I suppose. As awkward as this is, it is a free trip on a floating hot tub.” He explained, as much as he would like this to be quick to avoid how awkward this could be it he was also himself and this seemed like fun. Mina went into detail of how Callisto might feel about this whole blind date and he laughed a little less awkwardly this time. “What? You’re saying it isn’t common for people she’s dating to end up on a blind dates with her sister? I would have never guessed.” Being mildly sarcastic about her response. He couldn’t imagine something like this ever happening more than once.
Shawn smiled back to Mina as she agreed with just having fun and not making things uncomfortable. Even laughing as she said making things uncomfortable might not work on him. “Normally no but I am going out with your sister, it does make everything just a bit more awkward.” Shawn laughed quickly after as he was being honest after all. It seemed the staff were ready and waiting on them as Mina pointed out as she said they should get changed and meet over by the boat. “Sounds good.” He replied hiding the awkward tone in his voice again as he did remember once again this was a hot tub. Of course she would be changing and he would as well. Still there was no fighting it as he went into the men’s changing room and put on a pair of white swim trunks with yellow smiling suns all over them. Putting his things in one of the lockers provided he stood back out by the boat and waited for Mina once more.

Callisto, not the nosy type? Mina wasn’t sure if Shawn was kidding or not. Technically nosy wasn’t the correct word for what her older sister did. She was more…bossy. Proud. Stubborn. The Ravenclaw blood in her was almost superseded by Gryffindor spirit. In her own opinion, the hat had royally screwed up the family’s sorting. Sarah should have been in Slytherin and herself and Callisto both in Gryffindor. They tended to exhibit more lion-like traits than their werewolf sister ever had. To add to that, there probably would have been more leniency on her own studies had she been a Gryffindor instead of a Slytherin. No one every expected much out of the lions, except for them to be the ‘heroes’, or whatever it was. “She was a Ravenclaw,” Mina stated, deciding that it was a good enough reason for Callisto to be nosy. “Her way or the highway, Mr. Ashcroft. You might be the only one I’ve seen get a free pass…” There had been Brandon too, but that was Cal being silly.
As for going home early, Shawn seemed to agree with her. “And free is my middle name,” Mina grinned. “Well, not really, but I wouldn’t be me without taking advantage of free stuff. Mostly it’s just drinks and…yeah, mostly drinks.” Ugh that made her sound like an alcoholic. Admitting it so easily like that only meant she was one. “She hasn’t exactly dated anyone before. At least not anyone she has told me about. There was this one though, that she had been writing letters to, and I went and met him. But nothing ever came of it,” she shrugged. Brandon had seemed intriguing, and he was certainly a talented musician. Apparently he couldn’t sing his way into her sister’s icy heart the way that Shawn had somehow managed to do with his goofiness. Mina was flabbergasted that anyone with a sense of humor could shatter that barrier, especially since she had been trying her entire life to find a way in. “It’s settled then! I’ll keep my hands to myself today,” Mina winked as she finally turned to go get changed.
A quick change into her bathing suit and with her belongings locked up in a tiny metal locker provided to her, Mina hopped back out to the dock, almost doubling over in laughter at the sight of Shawn’s trunks. “I don’t know why I didn’t expect that. It fits you,” she said through giggles. “Shall we?” she managed to say, passing by him and stepping gingerly into the warm water of the hot tub. In her experience with hot tubs, it was easier to go all the way in immediately; waiting and inching into it body part by body part would lead to everything yet to be submerged to freeze. She was here to get toasty and toasted. Maybe omitting the second one. It depended on what the prices were going to be, and how serious she wanted to be when it came to telling embarrassing stories about Callisto. Pushing her legs through the semi-resistant water, Mina took a seat on the opposite side, waiting patiently for Shawn to get in, and for their ‘romantic’ date to push off from the dock.

Mina explained how Callisto was a Ravenclaw after all and he could see that as being a reason why she had to know details on everything. They were the house that always seemed to want to know everything no matter what. “I guess you have a point.” Shawn added with a small laugh agreeing with Mina’s conclusion as she continued talking about her sister. “Maybe. It’s only been one date so far... kind of.. maybe three if you count the times we kept running into each other.” As he explained how many dates Callisto and him had possibly been on it was confusing even for himself. He wasn’t even sure which ones they were counting and which they weren’t. “I was also annoying her way before that too back in school but that was just for a year.” While she spoke about free things all Shawn could do was laugh and nod. “I’m right there with you. If they’re giving something out for free why not take advantage of it. If we don’t someone else might beat us to it.” Shawn wasn’t just talking about the boat ride and while he was talking about drinks there was much more also. He for the longest time had been staying at his best friends place after coming home to Europe. He had traveled for so long and been without a real job that it wasn’t like he could of afforded his own place anyway. He had tried to pay rent here and there but he was terrible at it and knew it. “Oh? So I should be on the look out for this guy?” Shawn asked with a small smirk just playing around as he wasn’t trying to sound jealous either. As Mina explained how she would keep her hands to herself before walking off to go change he just let out what almost sounded like an awkward laugh. That was the last thing in the world he needed to happen nor did he need that thought in his head either right now. While he waited for Mina to finish changing Shawn kept trying to think of just who would have signed him up for this. He wasn’t mad but that didn’t mean revenge wasn’t going to happen. Still that required him to find out who did this but that wasn’t normally hard. Whichever friend had done this would probably ask about it a few days from now. Shawn was snapped out of his thoughts as he heard the laughter of Mina and he joined in for a moment. “I wasn’t expecting to be going swimming anytime soon but I have no regrets. I like these swim trunks.” He defending this outfit even thought he was sure he didn’t need too. Mina walked past him and got into the hot, After she was in he followed her lead slowly getting in and getting used to the water for a moment. He couldn’t actually remember the last time he had been in a hot tub. Once they were settled in the hot tub the boat slowly pulled away from the dock pulling the dock with the hot tub on it with it. "So do you think we can convince them to just throw the drinks on Blishwick's tab?" Shawn asked jokingly but it was a thought after all. mina pandora oliveira

The gears started turning in her head as Shawn said that he had only been on one official date with her sister so far. But then there were the other two instances where they had ran into each other. That was a tricky one. Knowing Cal, she probably counted all encounters with a person she was interested in as a ‘date’, in only the most bare bone of descriptions. He added that he had been bugging her since they were both in school together, and Mina continued piecing together her next dig towards her sister. There were so many things to use against her now! This turned out way better than she had expected. “Oh definitely tell her that you count those as dates. She’ll totally freak and get all flustered. It’s hilarious,” Mina laughed. There had been plenty of times where she had caught her sister off guard and gotten her to elicit that sort of reaction – one of them being when she discovered the love letters from Brandon. Ahh Brandon. The good old days. In her opinion, Shawn was a better fit, mostly because it suited her own personal reasons.
“Exactly! My favorites are the little food stands inside the supermarkets. You know the one where they give you a tiny sample on a toothpick or in a cup? I always get seconds for my dog if I have her with me too.” Though free drinks from interested parties at the bar always beat that. All she had to do was schmooze a little, flirt here and there, and collect a free drink or two. If she didn’t do that, her bank account would be in the red. The ones that made it farther than that? Well that was her little secret. Mina shook her head as Shawn asked if he needed to watch out for Brandon. He was safe, as far as she knew. Callisto definitely wasn’t the type to lead two guys at once. She could barely handle one at a time as it was. “Nah you’re good. I might bring him back into the mix someday to stir up some drama, but I don’t think you have to worry at all. Though if I remember, he was a Hufflepuff too, so she definitely has a type it seems. So just watch out for your fellow badgers and you should be fine.” And away from Brandon’s music, which if Mina remembered correctly from their conversation, was something he wanted to pursue. There was no telling if the guy ever followed through with that though. Music was one of those tough businesses, form what she had heard about it.
The trunks definitely fit Shawn. “You know what? I should get a matching set, and then we can bring Cal to the beach and watch her try to process us having the same design.” She liked that idea. There was a one-hundred percent guarantee that she would get pulled off to the side and reprimanded for scheming with Shawn, but it would be totally worth it. “If I’ve learned anything from the other blind dates I’ve gone on through him, get as much as you want,” Mina grinned. She had a feeling there wouldn’t be as much drinking tonight as there had been in those prior dates, but it was going to be fun regardless. “That guy has loads of money. I went in there once to try and figure it all out, and it scared me how serious he is about matching people together. Gets pairings correct almost every single time. Not for me at all,” she said, shaking her head while grabbing one of the water proof menus from the side of the hot tub, pointing at a few drinks so that the server could get them before they were pushed off from the dock. “What about you? Think you’ll follow the au natural route, or go to Mr. Blishwick in the end?” Mina posed the question before handing the menu over to him.

All Shawn could do was laugh as Mina explained how he should count all the times they met as dates. He agreed that it would probably throw her off a little bit and possibly flustered too which like Mina said would be hilarious. “Well I’m already convinced.” Shawn replied still laughing just a little. It probably wasn’t a very boyfriend thing to do to try and make his girlfriend freak out but this was him after all. It’s just part of the package and wasn’t going to be mean about it but just a little bit of a reaction wasn’t a bad thing. “I’m blaming you though if she hexes me or something for teasing her.” Not like he actually would, if anything it would be just his fault for going through with it but this was just him joking around anyway. Mina explained how she liked the free samples at supermarkets the most out of all. He couldn’t argue with that if they were just going to pass out food anyone should take advantage of it. Shawn was no different either. “If you ever want a second dog to take around and give free snacks to I know where you can find one.” He teased momentarily, pretty sure Callisto had shared he was an Animagus. If not that would be an interesting joke to consider. knowing Mina so far she just might take him up on that offer anyway. As Mina spoke of Brandon he gave a weak smirk as she brought up bringing him around someday just for some drama. He wasn’t jealous or worried as far as he knew but he didn’t need or want to find out if he really was. Still he trusted Callisto anyway no matter who Mina decided to bring around. He did laugh a little as she brought up Callisto having a thing for Hufflepuffs. “I’ll be sure you keep and eye out for them. I am the head of the Hufflepuffs house, in a way that makes me the lead Hufflepuffs.” “Count me in for that completely.” Shawn said laughing in agreement only imagining the confusion Callisto would feel seeing them both in the same design. He was sure it wouldn’t take her long to assume they had both set this up and she wouldn’t have been wrong either. “She doesn’t strike me as much of a beach person but I’m sure between the both of us we could convince her to go.” This was also true, he couldn’t be sure but he didn’t think she would be much of someone to just go to a beach to relax or have fun. As the conversation turned to Blishwick he was almost a little glad to hear that none of the blind date matches for Mina had worked out yet. It wasn’t that he didn’t want Mina to find someone but he had heard to that Jimbo was normally pretty accurate with his matches but it was a relief that he seemed to be off with Mina each time. “Maybe next time will be a winner and if not it’s still a free night out on the Blishwicks tab.” Shawn offered his condolences but he doubted Mina had a problem with her blind dates working out or not anyway. “What happens, happens for me really. Still it might be fun to see what he has to say sometime but I’m in no hurry. Besides I’m happy with how things are right now in my life just the way they are.”

Mina continued laughing as Shawn said the blame would be on her if Callisto hexed him. Oh that would be the best day of her life, though unfortunately at the expense of Shawn’s. “There’s a reason she specializes in the spell damage ward at the hospital, you know.” There had been enough threats when they were younger for Mina to learn not to mess with her sister too much; the warnings becoming an inevitable reality were too much for her to risk it. “But I don’t think you have to worry too much. She’s put up with me for twenty years, I doubt you can do anything wild enough to scare her off. Just don’t run away or break her heart. Then you’ll have the whole pack after you,” Mina added with a wink. That would be the last thing Callisto would want though, which was unfortunate. Mina was positive that the only sibling that would get that sort of response from the whole family would be the youngest. Everyone else fended on their own and dealt with their problems silently, for the most part.
Shawn mentioned that he knew of another dog that he could introduce to her, that would like the supermarket snacks just as much as her own did, Mina’s eyes widening at the thought. If she had it her way, she would have another pet. Callisto had other thoughts (though to be honest, she had yet to test those waters). It was amazing the current animal was even allowed to stay as long as she had. “Do you have a dog too? Because if you do, you definitely need to bring it over some time. It’ll drive Cal nuts having two of them running around in the apartment.” That would be absolutely wonderful. Knowing her own, it would be chaos. The laugh that followed her comment about having a thing for Hufflepuffs was an indication that she was spot on, in a way. “See? A thing for Hufflepuffs. I get it. Your lot is so innocent sometimes…” she trailed off. Hufflepuffs were always her favorite as well, sometimes she felt bad about the things she did to them, but most of the time she didn’t. Apparently going after badgers ran in the family.
“Deal!” Mina grinned, holding her hand out towards him. “Can’t wait to see what she thinks about that.” The possibilities were endless. “Oh, I don’t think she is either. But if we give her a book and a bottle of wine she’ll live the otherwise traumatic experience of the beach.” Or multiple books and a couple bottles of wine. The real trick was the convincing her to go part, but with Shawn’s help, Mina didn’t think that was all that difficult. He seemed to get her, which had been the most difficult part of being her sister for the last twenty years. “God, please no winners. That’s the last thing I need. I’ll stay married to his tab though.” The thought of getting hitched was somewhat nauseating. Being tied down to one person (unless they were someone phenomenal), was not going to happen any time soon. She listened to Shawn as he explained how he currently was, basically resonating what she didn’t want to happen in her life. “Boooooring,” Mina sang, making sure to tell the waiter her drink order immediately after. “What about work, Professor? Crazy kids keep you on your toes?”

Shawn laughed as Mina talked of the reason Callisto specialized in magical damage at the hospital. “I can only assume because of the practice she got from healing her own damages.” He said a small smirk. It probably wasn’t a subject he nor both of them should be laughing about too much as it was someone they were both close too. At least Mina was close to and Shawn was just getting close to. Still it was funny how her career choice worked out like that. Mina talked of how Callisto put up with her for twenty years. She also threatened him in a way if he hurt her sister. “That almost sounds like a challenge, if I can drive her crazy in a shorter amount of time.” Shawn laughed as he was one to take such silly challenges and he knew this well enough. “I’ll have to pass on at least intentionally doing that. I don’t really want to scare your sister off nor do I plan on running off.”
There was a small smirk on Shawn’s face as Mina asked if he had a dog too and that he should bring it over sometime. Probably to annoy Callisto. As he was the dog he was talking about he already knew it would annoy Callisto. Shawn could only assume Callisto hadn’t shared much about him to her sister. They hadn’t been dating long anyway. “Sure, Callisto already gets easily annoyed at him anyway.” He said with a laugh as he debating on telling Mina he was Animagus or leaving that as a surprise. “It just comes with the yellow badge.” It wasn’t like Shawn could argue with what Mina was saying about Hufflepuffs even if he wanted to. “Still why do I feel you have personal experience there.” He added almost teasingly.
Aside from the awkward beginning to hanging out with Mina he was starting to enjoy it more as they spoke. Mina agreed with him about Callisto not seeming like much of a beach person but gave an idea of how to get her to come. “Sounds like a good plan to me. Bonus points to which one of us can actually get her in the water.” Shawn said agreeing with her plan and of course going a little further as well. “I now pronounce you free drinks and wife.” It was all in jest but he could understand the appeal of just coming to these blind dates for the free things. It was how he had lived for sometime albeit not the dating part. “Sorry to disappoint you, I'm older and boring now I suppose.” He responded with a laugh as she commented about how it was boring, knowing she was kidding also. She asked about his work and he just smiled for a moment. “Oh yeah, it’s a bit of karma coming back at me as I was one of those kids when I was younger. It’s always funny when they think I haven’t done pretty much everything they are planning already. What do you do for work?”

“Maybe,” Mina shrugged. Cal making mistakes didn’t really sound like her sister, but if it was for the greater good and experience in a field, there was a possibility she would purposely cause injuries to fix them. Mina had always just assumed her sister was a perfectionist, the kind where spells came naturally and that work was labeled as ‘difficult’ when it challenged her intellectually. Now if Shawn was referring to damages she caused to other people, that would be a different story altogether. The ones Mina had been hit by were mostly harmless ones; the typical mouth sealing or tongue-tying kinds, and occasionally one to tie her down if she was getting drunk and disorderly. Those times were always the best though, wriggling around on the ground and stupidly inebriated all at once. Having fun when Cal was trying to be serious always resulted in the greatest memories, and Mina was sure her sister looked back on them as fondly as she did. “If you do manage to drive her to insanity, and that’s a big if, I’ll buy you drinks for the rest of your life. And maybe I’ll be easier on her going forward. Can’t be the problem child forever.” For the time being though, she was perfectly content with being the idiot – the one that wasted all of her money on booze and clubbing, worked a dead-end minimum paying job at a bookstore, and had to live with her older sister or else be living on the street. The least she could do once Shawn inevitably drove Callisto crazy was to ease back on her own ridiculousness. As for getting her own apartment? A job upgrade or someone she could gold dig off of would be necessary to manage that. There was still time for either of those though.
She had always thought it was strange that Callisto didn’t like the dog, but maybe that was due to the fact that it was only there because Mina was. Having two unruly inhabitants in one apartment surely caused a few headaches, not that Mina knew what that was like. Her only headaches to worry about consisted of hangovers and finding herself in a bed that she didn’t recognize, and while the former happened much more frequently than the latter, they still caused quite a bit of pain, and more often than not, the latter could not be accomplished without the former. It was quite the vicious cycle she found herself in sometimes, and alcohol was a hell of a vice to have. “I don’t know how much she’s told you about our family’s situation, but I’m sure if your dog behaves better than mine does, she’ll love it to pieces,” Mina grinned. It wasn’t her place to scare him off with the whole werewolf mum, dad, brother, and sister thing. Unless he was absolutely dying to know, and then she would be absolutely dying to tell him. Literally dying, because Callisto would kill her if she spilled the ‘big secret’ before she could do it herself. The concept of keeping who they were hidden from the world was stupid, considering that the Greybacks were so open about it these days. Whatever, it wasn’t her place to decide any of that, and if she was to follow any of her parents’ rules, it was going to be that one.
As for Hufflepuffs, she had a decent track record with them. “Well, your kind tended to fall into my radar whilst in school. Sometimes I wish it still happened…badgers get a lot wiser once they graduate, and definitely aren’t as innocent as they once were.” It had something to do with their dorms being so close in proximity. Finding a Puff on its own, wandering the dungeons was like laying out fresh kill for a predatory animal. Mina knew her way with words and woos, and they were never particularly against her being overly friendly, so that was that.
Getting Cal into the water would be tricky, but there were plenty of ways to pull it off, both magical and the boring (non-magical) way. “It’ll probably be you, only because she’ll see it coming from a mile away with me. She’ll do whatever it takes to not let me ruin it, whereas you have the power of suggestion and smiley sun swimming trunks. Make a little scene on the beach to get other people looking, and bam!” Mina clapped her hands together for the sound effect. “You have her in the water. Or just get her stupid drunk and she’ll be in it in a matter of minutes. All depends on if you want a drunk Cal or an angry Cal. Or both.” She simply shrugged when Shawn apologized for being old and boring. It happened. She had run into plenty of seemingly boring old people in the past, and once they broke out a little they always ended up being fun. And it wasn’t like she was serious about him being boring. Callisto was old and boring for sure, Shawn was not. “See, now that explains why the younger professors always caught me. Why did I never think of that?” Probably because she was stupid and didn’t care if she was going to get in trouble or not. Detention was her second home at Hogwarts, right behind stuffing her face with sugary foods in the Great Hall and followed closely behind by bathroom stalls she hid in to skip out on classes. “I work at Flourish & Blotts,” she said, though the hint of pride that used to be attached to that statement had long since disappeared. Mina understood she wouldn’t be able to work there forever. That was impossible, and it wasn’t like she would ever have enough money nor the skills to buy out the owner in the future. “I’ve been there for about a year now…went abroad after graduating to get away from everything. But now I’m back and trying to act like an adult, so that’s that,” she said with a forceful nod of her head. If she could convince Shawn to believe that, then he could help her convince Cal as well. It was obviously a flawless plan.
