Lusie Windsor didn’t get out much. That was for sure. She was pretty okay with sitting in her room in the palace and reading, or walking the gardens casually. But every now and then she got bored, and when that happened, she’d go out to one of the approved places and spend the day something something or another. Today was one of those boring days. It was rainy and Lusie didn’t want to spend the rainy day at home. So instead, she decided to pop into Diagon Alley to pick up her books for her next year of school. She’d be entering into her 6th year - how weird was that? She could barely wrap her head around the fact that she only had 2 years left, and, now half of her siblings were graduated. It was only her and Edmund left.
Lusie walked into the bookstore in the famous Wizarding Alley and wrapped up her umbrella so it wouldn’t drip all over the carpet in the shop. She had her list of books, but she was sure they wouldn’t be hard to find anyway since the shop would likely be getting ready for the student rush anyway and might have the books out already. Lusie began browsing, feeling no rush to collect everything quickly.

Kisumi was starting to get bored. It was raining again leaving her unable or unwilling to do her preferred activities, her dad was busy, and if she didn't do something - anything - she was going to get into trouble, and as she rather liked having the whole of London to roam, she couldn't let that happen. So she headed to the bookshop, because if she couldn't move, she needed her brain to be going, and maybe there’d be a good book for that.
Flourish and Blotts was an experience too, mismatched shelves and things sorted in a way she couldn't make out the logic to. Maybe there was none - wizards were like that sometimes. Anyway, she was starting to despair when she rounded a corner to find a cute brunette browsing, and decided to make the search a little more fun. She reached out to tap the other teen lightly on the shoulder. ”Excuse me, hi, do you know where they keep the Transfiguration books? I'm a little lost in here.”

While Lusie was browsing, before she had even picked up one book, she felt a tapping on her shoulder. When she turned around she found herself face to face with someone that she had never seen before, and she heard a voice come out of the new person that sounded very foreign. Lusie was used to different accents, she was always being introduced to new people, visiting ambassadors at the palace, and, foreign students over the last year at Hogwarts. She, of course, knew about the flood of American students they would be sharing the castle with this year, and she had been expecting to run into a few of them over the summer at least. “Transfiguration? What year?” Lusie asked. “I have to admit I don’t have the shops layout memorized, but I’m looking too.” Lusie said with a shrug. Lusie had, however, been here before to collect books for her previous school years and vaguely remembered where everything was.

So the cute brunette didn't catch Kisumi's attempt at flirting, but she was very nice and offered to help anyway, and asked what year she was looking for. Mimi couldn't help but be excited about it. "Sixth year, but it's personal interest really! I'm really excited for conjuration. And self-transfiguration, because I'd love a new way to do my hair." She gestured at it as if that would be enough explanation, and it probably was - the roots were starting to show black and the pink was fading, but it was very definitely the hair of someone who liked playing with it. "I think my American is showing, because even if you don't have it memorized, I don't have a clue where to start. Kisumi, by the way. It's nice to meet you."

Lusie was fairly oblivious to the American girls flirting, that was true. Lusie wasn’t very good at picking up on those little cues, perhaps because she had never really had any interest in dating before. As she was getting older, dating was something that she was feeling herself think about a little bit more, however she wasn’t sure she was herself dating anyone at school. She wasn’t sure there was really anyone that she trusted enough to want to date. Most people who would ask her would be asking out the Princess of England, not the friendly, Hufflepuff girl. And Lusie wasn’t about to be used like that. The girl explained that while she was in 6th year, she was looking for the books mostly for her own personal interest and Lusie smiled, she knew that feeling, not about Transfiguration, but for her language books. “Do you use magic to color your hair then?” Lusie asked. She wasn’t allowed to color her hair. However, she was expected to visit the salon, or allow someone to come and do her hair regularly. The girl admitted that she was American and Lusie nodded, she had expected as much based on the accent. “I’m Lusie. It’s nice to meet you - welcome to London.” she insisted with a soft smile. She didn’t extend her hand in greeting. Royal’s weren’t exactly supposed to let people touch them, and following the rules was something that she was trying to work on since she was home for the summer. She was a lot more relaxed about it during the school year when it was only her and her remaining Hogwarts aged siblings. Lusie scanned the isles of the shop, there were a few signs about. “Maybe if we follow the signs for the school books.” Lusie suggested.

The girl asked whether she used magic to color her hair, and Kisumi shrugged. "During the school year, but since I can't use magic over the summer, it's good old hydrogen peroxide - the No-Maj way. Magic's better though. I can change more often." She did so love changing her hair colour to match her outfit - or clash with it - and with charms she just reversed the spell and then did a new one. She wasn't sure how Transfiguring her hair would revert, but that was what the books were for.
"Thanks," she answered. "Are you from London then?" Lusie suggested that they follow the signs for the school books, and Mimi had to agree with that logic. She smiled and laughed a little sheepishly. "Might be a good place to start. I don't want to inconvenience you too much though - are you looking for anything particular?" If Lusie was just browsing though, then the company would be nice.

The girl explained that she used magic when she could, but when she wasn’t able to use magic, she did it the muggle way, only she called it the no-maj way, something that Lusie figured that she should get used to hearing as that was the way that the new American students spoke. She wondered what other oddities of language would come out of this experience. “That’s fun. I’ve never done anything like that to my hair.” Lusie admitted. She didn’t even know what the response would be if she did. Strict families had nothing on the Windsors. “I am. Breed and raised in London. It’s a lovely city.” for the most part; though she spent a lot of her very young years in a little country cottage with just her family as her mom tried to give the children a normal life until the assassination of her father. “Oh it’s really no inconvenience. I was just going to pick up the books on my required list for classes for the upcoming term.” Lusie knew that were only mid-summer holidays, but she liked to get the books in advance, if they weren’t ones that they already had from one of her older siblings. Or, sometimes it was just better to have her own copy. “This looks like a good place to start.” Lusie suggested, pointing to an isle of books labeled Transfiguration.

Lusie said she'd never done anything like her dye to her hair, and Kisumi shrugged. "It's not for everyone, especially the No-Maj way, but I think it's fun, yeah."
It turned out Lusie was from London, and Kisumi grinned. "I've been enjoying it a lot! Any suggestions for places I should visit over the summer then? I've been to Camden Markets and the London Eye, and Diagon Alley obviously, but I've got a whole summer and some more ideas would be great." The business centers where her dad spent time were boring. At least he'd had time to do some exploring outside of the city with her.
Lusie assured her that it wasn't an inconvenience, just very early textbook shopping. She pointed out an aisle labelled Transfiguration, and Kisumi grinned and hopped in along the shelves. Her eyes widened. "I haven't seen this many Transfiguration books in one place before." She ran her finger along the shelf as she took in the titles. "This is amazing." She'd never realised how much Ilvermorny minimized the field to better accommodate the Native American students. Sure, they studied it, but this was something else entirely.
