This whole situation was a piece of cake to Ashley. She wasn't particularly excited that she was stuck in a country where she didn't know anyone except for her countrymates that had to come here as well, but she did like to change things up. She also liked meeting new people. So maybe this would be a good thing. The only hard part was that the culture here was a bit different. How was she supposed to know who was pureblood and who wasn't? Everyone here seemed to ... mingle so much. At home, she only went out with people that had the same social standing as she. At least, that's how it worked in the summer. Oh well. She was in a new place, so she'd have to adjust.
She walked down the main alley in Diagon Alley, glimpsing at the shops as she passed. They all seemed rather small to her, but whatever. She couldn't do anything to change that. After a few minutes, she moved so she was standing besides one of the buildings and looking out at the people on the street. Maybe she'd be able to spot someone interesting enough to talk to, or someone that needed help or something. Ugh, she wished they could have come here at the end of the summer. She was pretty sure it would be easier to meet people once school started than it was here.

Lusie walked out of the robe store with a bag full. She hadn’t actually intended to buy anything other than the Hufflepuff crested sweater that caught her eye when she walked into the shop, however, she had ended up getting 3 of the sweaters and a few new skirts. She had grown a bit and needed to get them before the school year started anyway. Her previous ones were getting too short for her liking, even though they were still within the dress code. The Alley was busier than normal, which was to be expected given the influx of American transfer students. However, it did put her on edge. Having more people around meant that there was a greater chance that she could be recognized. Oh man, she couldn’t wait until she was old enough to be able to apparate everywhere she wanted to go and didn’t have to find floo network connections or try to rely on muggle transportation from the palace to the alley when she needed to go out. Lusie began to cross the alley, she just wanted to get to the other side of the street to start making her way back to the leaky cauldron, however, navigating her way through the crowd of people proved slightly difficult. “Well, that was a work out.” Lusie smiled to a girl who had been standing on the side of the alley that Lusie had made her way to. She paused to catch her breath, realizing that she was getting out of shape.

Ashley was bored. Nothing really interesting was going on at all, but she was trying to keep an eye out for someone or something interesting. The thing was, everyone on the street was bustling and hurrying around, hardly even taking time to talk to people they knew. It was so boring. Then someone made their way across the street, stopping close to Ashley. The girl was carrying quite a few bags and Ashley smiled at her. She liked shopping, eh? That was something Ashley could definitely understand. "What, you mean this is the first time you've carried bags this summer?" she teased with an easy smile. "You want some help?" When she wanted to, Ashley could be nice, and when it came to people that were shopping she decided to help. At least, right now she was deciding to. What? It wasn't like she had anything better to do with her time.

“Oh, well yes, this is the first time I’ve carried shopping bags this summer, I suppose. But actually I meant that getting through the crowd in one piece was the work out.” The young princess clarified, feeling her cheeks go red in the confusion. She wasn’t so weak that she couldn’t carry a few sweaters and skirts in a plastic bag. But she was small enough to be pushed and stepped on a bit in a crowd the size of the one that Diagon Alley was seeing these days with the influx for American students and their families who were here for the summer holiday. “I can handle the bags, thanks.” Lusie insisted with a smile. “Where in America are you from?” Lusie asked, catching the girls American accent right away and wanting to make conversation with her since they were supposed to be getting to know their new classmates in the same way that they had gotten to know the foreign visitors last year.

The girl's cheeks turned red at Ashley's teasing and she found herself somewhat surprised. The girl looked well-dressed, but if she wasn't used to mockery, could she really be part of the upper class. Still, Ashley decided it would be better to try and make a new friend, since she didn't know who the girl was. She didn't want to make an enemy of anyone that might be a pureblood or someone she would want to associate herself with. She smiled at the girl, trying to make her look seem apologetic. "Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude," she answered, then glanced at the crowd and then her smile widen a bit. "I can imagine that crowd being hard to get through. Glad you made it through." The girl said she didn't need help with the bags and Ashley smiled and nodded, not wanting to push anything. "I'm from New York," she said with a shrug of her shoulders, not explaining that she was from the center of Manhattan, where some of the richest people lived. That wasn't necessary. "Do you live near here?" she returned the question curiously. Of course, the girl could have come to Diagon Alley from anywhere. It was a natural enough question, wasn't it?

“Oh no, of course you weren’t. I should have been more specific.” Even if Ashley was actually trying to be rude, Lusie would never assume that of her. Little Lusie assumed the best in everyone. Everyone had a good side and everyone showed it - right? She knew, of course, that was not the case. But she tried to search out the good in most people and by doing that she often found it. “Oh I love New York! Are you from the City? I was there once a few years back…” A lot of years back. But oh well. Lusie had done her fair share of traveling, especially whenever her family members traveled, travel was important for a young girl, her caretakers would insist. She had been to almost all of Europe and just to America once when she was much younger than she was now. To be honest, the city of New York had terrified her in person. It was huge and people were rushing to get everywhere and there was this certain smell that she didn’t even want to think about. Her family hadn’t spent a lot of time there. They took in a show on Broadway and the continued on their way to the capital of America. Politics; the real reason for their visit. “Yes, I live in London.” She didn’t need to say that she lived in one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. That wasn’t necessary. “Are you enjoying the city? I’m Lusie, by the way.” she introduced herself with a smile.

Ashley smiled when the girl said that she should have been more specific. Ashley was glad that her words weren't taken the wrong way. At home, people definitely would have taken her words the wrong way, but that's the reputation she wanted there. She wasn't quite sure how she wanted people to know her at Hogwarts, so she was working on scoping things out this summer. She grinned when the girl said she liked New York. "I am! Manhattan. I grew up there. It's a little different here, but I like it." Mostly, it was just quieter. Even in the city, Ashley was sure that England couldn't compare to her beloved city. She'd give it a chance though. "Did you go to any of the museums or see any plays?" They weren't the magical attractions, but they were still big draws for people coming to her city. She smiled and nodded when the girl said she lived here. "Yeah, I like it." She gasped a little, "Oh, sorry I didn't introduce myself. Nice to meet you Lusie, I'm Ashley!" She smiled, "So do you have any plans for the rest of your day or do you want to show me around a little bit?"

The young girl admitted that she was from the city and that she loved it there. She asked in Lusie had done much while she was in the city and the Hufflepuff shrugged. “We went there because my dad had a work thing, so we didn’t get to spend a lot of time doing fun things. We did see a show, though.” she could leave out the part of them seeing the show from a private box, all tucked away and surrounded by security. She would also leave out the part where he dad was killed shortly after their return home. Of course, none of that was ever fun to think about, but, at least she still had the happy memories from before the event, of her father. “It’s very nice to meet you Ashley.” Lusie smiled politely, she was always very polite. Lusie didn’t try to go in for a handshake or anything like that, she wasn’t actually supposed to touch people, err, people weren’t supposed to touch her? The rules were always so fuzzy and extreme, but, Lusie kept to some of them when she remembered to. “I can show you around a bit.” she nodded in agreement. It was always nice to make a few friend, even if she hated the crowds in the alley and the fear of being recognized. “Is this your first time in the alley?” she asked.

Ashley nodded as Lusie explained a bit more about her experience in New York. She shook her head, a somewhat sympathetic smile crossing her expression. "That's a shame. There's so much to do there. It's a lot of fun." She looked over to the girl and made a split-second decision, to offer assistance to the girl. "If you ever go there again, let me know and I can tell you about some exciting things to do." She smiled and shrugged a little bit when Lusie asked if it was her first time in the alley. "I've walked around a little bit, but I don't really know what much of this is," she gestured to all the shops around them. "I figure I'll understand the place better if someone shows me." Ashley looked around herself curiously. "Are there any particular places you enjoy more than others? Or places you avoid?"

Ashley insisted that is Lusie were to ever go to New York again she should let her know and that Ashley could offer some suggestions on places to go and things to do. Lusie nodded, “That’s very kind of you. I’ll do that.” she wasn’t sure that she would. But then again, she wasn’t sure if she’d ever go back to the States again. There would have to be a really good reason. The royal family wasn’t too big on international travel these days, maybe because they were still on such high alert after the murder of her father. That wasn’t to say that they didn’t travel internationally, but, it didn’t seem to happen quite so frivolously. “Well I’m not a fan of the crowds, so I tent to avoid the alley when possible. However, it’s hard to stay away from the ice cream shop up ahead.” Lusie admitted, giving a nod in the direction of the shop. “I’ve got a sweet tooth though.” she added with a little giggle. “And there a loads of cool shops. Potions shops and animal shops, and Quidditch shops.” she pointed at a few as they passed.

Ashley smiled when Lusie said that she'd come to her if she was ever returning to New York. She didn't seem to excited at the idea of going back, so there was a possibility she wouldn't return. Either way, Ashley's offer stood. At least she had someone who was willing to show her around here. She nodded when the girl said she avoided crowds. That was obvious from the way they met a few minutes ago. She laughed at the mention of ice cream. "Ice cream is worth braving bad situations," Ashley answered. Sweet things were a weakness to her, but especially ice cream. She nodded as the girl pointed out shops as they walked by. "Well, do you want to get some ice cream now?" Ashley asked. She wasn't planning on going there when she came to the Alley, but hearing Lusie talk about it made her want it ... a bit.

Ashley asked if Lusie would like to get some ice cream now, and Lusie being the obliging and friendly girl that she was, decided to agree. “Sure. The shop is quite the traditional Diagon Alley experience, if you want to get an idea of the true, British Kid experience, this is the way to do it.” she admitted with a smile. Though, she wasn’t sure that she had the traditional British wizarding kid experience because she was a muggle born. Though, with Will and Susan being so much older than her, they were able to help her out a lot when it came to getting ready for Hogwarts and navigating the Alley in a way that a parent normally would. Lusie lead the way against the crowd of people into the ice cream shop a little ways down the lane. It was busy, but not too much busier than normal. “Everything’s good here - I fancy the coconut myself, sometimes I get a scoop of chocolate with it.” she admitted, however, today seemed like a day for just the coconut.

Lusie wanted to get ice cream! Ashley tried to hide her excitement, but that was a little hard, since she was so excited. Ashley loved ice cream and she was definitely ready to try some here. "I am definitely ready to get the true British experience then," she said with a wide smile. She didn't really expect to let the younger girl see how much she liked ice cream, but it was too late now. She already saw Ashley's weakness. They entered and Ashley nodded as Lusie explained that she preferred coconut ice cream. That was good, but Ashley ... she wanted to try some of the classics so she could make up her mind about how good this shop was. She couldn't help but wonder how it would compare to her ice cream at home. "I want some chocolate on the bottom and vanilla on top," she ordered. The two girls sat down at one of the tables and talked until the ice cream was all gone. It was nice to have met someone that she could talk with and Ashley was pretty sure that she'd be able to consider the girl a friend. She was glad that she ran into Lusie today and was excited to see her again, once they made it to Hogwarts. @lusie --- the end ---
