Edmund was actually starting to get a bit annoyed. He'd been looking for his sister for about twenty minutes, and she was nowhere to be found! Sure, the castle was big- huge, actually- but finding Lusie wasn't something that normally took Edmund any effort. Now that he wanted to talk with her, she was gone. Ugh. The truth was, Addi just left after visiting for the afternoon and Ed was starting to realize that he might like his best friend. He wanted to talk to his sister about it, because he wasn't good with stuff like that. He needed her to help him figure out his feelings. She was a girl, so she was good at that stuff, right? He didn't want to go to Susan, because she'd blow it all out of proportion. Besides, this was a Lusie topic. He was closer to her than he was to any of his other siblings and had been for years. He knew she wouldn't tell anyone his secret ... if he ever told her. Where the blast was she?
He walked outside and started making his way to the pond, shouting her name once in a last-ditch effort to find her. "Lusie!" He called, deciding that if she didn't answer, he was giving up for the time being.

Lusie had been laying under this tree near the pond for a good portion of the afternoon. Her favorite thing to do during the summer was to find a place to hide on the castle grounds and enjoy some quiet time. Sometimes she read, sometimes she studied, sometimes she just sat alone with her thoughts. Today she was studying. Lusie, with her love of languages and cultures had resolved herself to learn at least the basics of the Italian language while she was taking a break from her magical education. She was content to spend the rest of the afternoon out there, except she was getting a little hungry. She was considering shutting her book and going to find something to eat when she heard her brothers voice call from nearby. “Ed?” she called back, sitting up to see if he could be seen. She saw him over by the pond and waved to him, wondering why he was looking for her. Didn’t he have a friend over?

Ed had all but given up on the idea of finding his sister, which was annoying him more than he cared to admit. Where in the world was she? He stalked across the grounds, making his way toward the pond, pausing when he finally heard his sister's voice. He spun in her direction and saw her waving at him. Edmund sped up to a jog until he reached her. Then he plopped to the ground beside her. "I've been looking for you for ages," he said, giving her a fake glare before sighing and leaning to lay his back on the ground. "Addi left," Edmund told her, though that should be obvious. He knew what he wanted to talk to her about, but he also had no idea how to bring it up. He didn't want to just come out and say that he thought he might be falling for his best friend. Did he? He knew he should say something else, but Ed didn't, instead waiting for her to say something.

Edmund insisted that he had been looking everywhere for his little sister and Lusie shrugged. She had been here the whole time, it wasn’t as though she was wandering. It wasn’t her fault that he wasn’t able to find her when she didn’t even know that he was looking for her. But, wouldn’t say that of course. "I've been here all day." she admitted. He found her now, that was what mattered. If he was looking for her he probably had something that he wanted to talk about. Especially if it couldn’t wait until she found him, then it was probably no casual conversation. He told her that Addi left and she raised her eyebrow. She had expected Addi to stay a little longer. “Did you scare her off already?” Lusie asked, completely just teasing, having no idea what actually happened between them or what Ed wanted to talk to her about.

Lusie shrugged when he said that he'd been looking for her all day and Ed realized that maybe he was coming off a little too annoyed. He needed to calm down, especially now that he actually found Lusie. Getting angry at her really wouldn't help him at all. She said she'd been there all day and he frowned. How did he not notice her when Addi and him walked around the grounds? Then again, he had been a bit distracted by his best friend and their conversation. "Did you see me and Addi walking around?" he asked curiously, wondering if they'd been anywhere close to her. He honestly couldn't remember. Lusie teased him about scaring Addi off and Ed rolled his eyes. "Of course not. Even if I wanted to scare her off, you know she wouldn't let me." Addi knew him better than anyone and honestly wouldn't put up with him doing things to push her away. It was one of the things he admired about her, to be honest.

Edmund asked his sister if she had seen him and Addi walking around earlier, and honestly, Lusie had no idea if they had come around here or not. They very well might have, however, she hadn’t been paying any attention. “I thought I heard footsteps and voices earlier, so maybe. I guess the better question is whether or not you came across a girl practicing bad Italian under a tree on your walk?” Lusie shrugged, sitting up so she could better see her brother. “I thought she’d stay a while longer. It’s still early isn’t it? Or have I let time get away from me?” Lusie asked, tilting her head to the side, wondering what had happened and what her brother and his friend had spent their time talking about. "is she well?" Lusie asked.

Of course Lusie didn't notice him and Addi. Edmund chuckled slightly as he shook his head, his earlier annoyance gone. He believed her, of course, and he really shouldn't be surprised, but for some reason Lusie brought out the softer side in him. With Lusie, he rarely got defensive or angry, instead often taking things as jokes. Even if they weren't really meant that way. "If we'd've come across you, we would have said something, Lu," he rolled his eyes, obviously teasing his younger sister. He shrugged a little when she commented about thinking Addi would stay longer. "I guess she had to get back to her sister or something. Yeah, she left a little earlier than I thought she would," he smirked at Lusie, "but it's also probably later than you think it is." He couldn't help but tease his younger sister. Then, at her last question, his expression drew more serious. "She's having a harder summer than she was hoping," he admitted. Of course, he wouldn't tell Lusie his best friend's secrets, but he could tell her general things like this, right?

Lusie shrugged. If it wasn’t him and Addi that she heard a while back, there were countless other people that it could have been. The castle and the gardens were secure and surrounded by fences and security, however, there were ground keepers and various other staff members always running about. It was easy to run into someone, and Lusie always did her best to greet and acknowledge them all, when she was actually paying attention, which she obviously hadn’t been today. “What did you guys do? Just walk around a little and talk?” she asked. Lusie didn’t normally have friends come over to the castle during the holidays. She liked the break from all the people and drama that Hogwarts provided. If she was in a particularly social mood, then she’d go to the Alley for the day. She got enough social time with her siblings at the castle. Or at least Edmund, who she could always find. “Is she? That’s awful. How come?” Lusie asked.

Lusie wasn't too concerned with his teasing and Ed chuckled softly. She was so calm. Sometimes he wondered how she did it, going through life without getting so angry and stuff. Maybe that was just him, not being able to deal with his emotions and taking things out on people he shouldn't. Still, he was glad Lusie was always there to talk to. He nodded at her question. "Yeah, I gave her a tour of the ground and we talked. We haven't seen one another a lot this vacation." Which he was going to work on, considering the fact that Addi was having so many problems with her sister. Maybe it would help keeping her away from the older girl. He was willing to try that, for sure. He nodded and then thought for a moment, trying to figure out how to answer Lusie without giving away Addi's secret. "Well she's staying with her sister for the summer and there's some drama going on over there that's stressing her out," he said, trying to make it sound like it wasn't as big a deal as it was. He couldn't say more than that. "Lus, I ..." he bit his lip, trying to decide if he wanted to tell his sister what he was thinking or not. "I think I might like Addi ... as more than a friend," his words came slowly, but once they were out he didn't regret them. Ed was glad for that.

Honestly, Lusie was so calm because most things went over her head. She knew that any of Edmunds teasing was in good fun and it was just an older brother teasing his sister. And anyone else who teased her, at school or anyone else, she normally didn’t notice and was just polite to anyway. Maybe it was in her training and upbringing. She was good at remaining in good spirits even when things are hard to not ideal. She had to keep a good face on for the public. Her brother explained that he gave his friend a tour of the grounds and they talked, since they hadn’t seen each other a lot over the vacation. She nodded. It was hard, sometimes, just having friends. Edmund then went on to explain that there was some drama at home stressing her out and Lusie nodded, she didn’t expect her brother to share all of Addi’s secrets, of course not. But she was glad that he was there for his friend, especially if she really needed someone. After a small pause, he continued, he stuttered at first and seemed to be having trouble speaking, Lusie felt her face scrunch up a bit as she tried to figure out what he was saying. “You think that… you fancy her?” Lusie asked, moving from her sitting position to standing with her brother, feeling that it was necessary that they were at least on closer levels for this conversation. “Why do you think that?” she asked.

It took Lusie a few seconds to say something after his confession and Edmund got more and more nervous as he waited. He didn't know why, since if he was going to talk about something like this to anyone, he'd want it to be with his younger sister. Sure, he got along better with Susan now, but he was fairly sure that if they had this conversation, she would freak out in her excitement on his behalf. Will ... well, they could talk about something like this, but he had NO idea how a conversation like that would go. When Lusie finally answered, standing so she was next to him, Ed nodded. "I think so." He bit his lip, not sure how to explain himself. "I'm not quite sure. I like talking with her and spending time with her, but lately it seems like more than that. When she's sad about something, I want to fix it and my heart starts pounding any time we touch, or she grabs my hand to pull me somewhere. I dunno, Lus, I just ... I think I like her and I don't know what to do about it." He wasn't looking at his sister, a little embarrassed about what he just said and not quite sure how she'd respond.

Edmund took a moment before he responded to her question about why he thought that he liked his friend. Lusie listened seriously. She had no idea what to say. She had no idea what to think. She had never had a crush on anyone before, she had no idea what it felt like. But it sounded pretty legitimate. Lusie couldn’t be sure, but she knew her brother. She she knew that Ed wasn’t the type to jump into anything, he had obviously been giving this a lot of thought. So, she let a smirk creep onto her lips. “Awe, Eddy likes a girl.” Lusie teased and nudged his shoulder playfully; flat out teasing, in good fun, but still teasing. She knew this would likely get an annoyed reaction from her brother, especially since very rarely did anyone call him Eddy, but, Lusie felt like this little bit of sibling teasing was totally justified in this instance. “Well you’ve got good taste, she’s really nice.” Lusie admitted. “Do you think you’re going to tell her? Or, do you think maybe she fancies you too?” she asked.

Lusie was so quiet. Ed couldn't decide if that was a good thing, or if she was silently judging him for finally being interested in someone, and that that someone was his best friend. It was so cliche, but Ed couldn't help it. It just, now that he thought about it, made sense. He and Addi knew so much about one another, were so comfortable with each other. How could he like someone else? She teased him and Ed bit back his defensive attitude. It was easier to do than he expected, probably because he was talking to Lusie. "Come off it," he said, but his tone wasn't angry at all. In fact, he was almost smiling a little bit. He nodded when Lusie said that Addi was really nice and then hesitated. "I ... don't know. She liked someone else during school, I think. I'd like to tell her, but at the same time I'm nervous. I don't want to ruin our friendship if she's not interested." He turned to look at his younger sister. "Does that make any sense or am I being an idiot?"

Lusie knew he wouldn’t be mad at her little joke, but, she had been expecting him to act at least a little more annoyed. Instead, he gave a bit of a smile. She appreciated that about her brother, while he was the more serious, more stoic one of them, he was still nice to her, he was still easy going with her. After he shut down her little act of teasing, he continued to explain his situation and his feelings. And Lusie listened seriously. He told her that Addi had liked someone else while they were in school and Lusie nodded along, even though she hadn’t known that. All of this information was, of course, new to her, but nodding along at least showed that she was listening. Even if she didn’t know what to say, she would always be there to listen. “I don’t think you’re being an idiot at all.” Lusie insisted right away, shaking her head as she did so. “Maybe you should give it more time and see how it goes? I wish I could help… I really have no idea…” Edmund had to know that Lusie had never done this before. Never. But she was happy to listen, and try to help.

Lusie listened as he explained things and Edmund started to feel a bit self-conscious, even though he didn't want to. The thing was, these feelings for Addi were new and he hadn't explored them and didn't know how to express himself. He couldn't help but think that his younger sister had to believe he was an idiot for the way he was behaving. How could she not? Once he finished speaking, he waited impatiently for her to say something. She said that she didn't think he was an idiot, but Ed didn't believe that. Love was idiotic. Not that he thought he was in love with Addi. He liked her, wanted to try dating her, but love wasn't even a consideration yet. He nodded slowly when she said maybe he should give it more time. "Yeah, that's a good idea," he answered softly. Honestly, it was the only real option. He didn't want to chase Addi away, so rushing a relationship on her wouldn't work at all. Maybe he'd just see how she reacted with others once they got back to school .... He bit his lip. "So how are you doing?" he wouldn't mind talking more about his things, but didn't want to push it onto his younger sister.
