Liam smirked when Tia told him he would lose that fight. "Are you so sure? I'm getting the feeling that you and I might come up even on that one." It was nice, sparring with her like this. It was different to talking with other people, though Liam didn't really know why.
What he did know was that he disappointed her somehow when he asked about it helping him sleep. Crap, he didn't want to mess up this camaraderie. "I mean, I hope it'll help me sleep tonight, but I also want something that'll be interesting when I look at it later," he amended, hoping that maybe that would help somehow. He didn't know what he said wrong. She asked if he found poetry boring and started reaching for a book before he answered. "I like poetry," Liam answered, watching as she pulled down another book. About Divination, apparently. He rolled his eyes while she sneezed, maybe it was a good thing she didn't see that. Still he took the book from her. "How about I take this one and that poetry book," he said. Honestly the poetry book sounded more interesting. He wasn't sure if he'd like Divination at all, but he was willing to give it a shot.
He looked over at her. "Are you going to sleep any time soon?" Liam asked curiously.

TO HIS COCKY CHALLENGE, Tia simply quirked her brows and smirked with attitude. Letting her unsaid surety fill the space between them and more so before she added arrogantly. "'Even' is just a way people let sore losers down easy..." She would never have said that to someone she didn't know very well. But, it was fairly simple with William. Which was quite shocking, though Tia wouldn't put much thought in to that until later.
Though she had been disappointed at the rebuff, Tia recognised when he saw it in her. Hated that he had, but knew when he spoke that he was trying to make up for it. She let him ramble a bit without answer, simply looking at the stacks for a boring book and the poetry. She found the Divination book first.
Upon handing it to him, he finally asked for the poetry book too. She turned without word, reaching down at the very bottom lefthand corner of the shelf and plucking it out. It was exactly where she'd left it originally. Seemingly untouched by other students, which had always disappointed her.
"Here," She said, pivoting back to him and slapping it on top of the Divination book. "But don't read it just to spare my feelings." She crossed her arms and stared at him shrewdly. "I'm not that fragile." She was quite used to being dismissed, actually. Apart from academically, Tia functioned quite well in her own, sometimes self-imposed, solitude.
As for sleep, she had no fast answer. With a shrug, Tia turned away. "Unconfirmed," She sighed. Strolling toward the common room sofa's with loose arms she turned and fell on the confusions dramatically. "Don't feel like you have to hang around." She said, picking at a loose piece of skin around her thumbnail. "I'm quite alright in my own company, if you'd rather read in your room." She wasn't trying to get rid of him, merely lifting any lingering obligation for him to stay. She hated the idea of people feeling sorry for her.

Liam rolled his eyes at the girl, though he couldn't really come up with something to say to that. Crap. Then something occurred to him. "Well I'm glad you caught the hint," he said, lifting an eyebrow right back at her. He was sure Tia would find some retort, but he was interested to see what she would say.
She didn't answer him for quite a while, which made Liam feel even more uncomfortable. It was strange because as a general rule he didn't really talk with people, but he felt more comfortable around Tia and he didn't like the idea that he said something to make her feel uncomfortable around her.
Tia sudden spun around and put the poetry book on top of the Divination one, telling him not to read it to spare her feelings. Liam shook his head, "I'm not reading it to spare your feelings. I ... you're ... I trust your judgement, so I'm reading it on your recommendation." That was normal, wasn't it? He wasn't entirely sure, but he hoped so. He didn't want to make Tia felt like he pitied her.
Why was she being so annoying? Liam glared at her. "Can you stop trying to push me away subtly or just ask me to leave?" he suggested bluntly. If she didn't want him here, he'd leave, but he didn't want to have to try and figure out what she wanted. "I don't mind staying and talking with you if you want." He still wasn't going to push it. Ugh, he didn't know what to do. He hated that feeling.

TIA ALMOST THOUGHT SHE'D WON THAT ROUND. Though she spoke too soon as his retort came, sure enough. Her eyes rolled heavily and she snorted at the audacity. "You wish..." She scoffed, shaking her head and pretending she didn't want to laugh. It was difficult, being a bit of a loner she didn't socialise well. Often Tia said something unintentionally rude or brash. An ignorant tendency she didn't acknowledge and so never worked to diminish. But her back and forth with Liam was... fun.
Even though it had burned that, to Tia, he had rejected her offer for the poetry book. She found that almost instantly the burn had faded, which wasn't usual for her. Perhaps it was the genuine way he'd tried to even it out. It was the only reason she'd given him the book. She hadn't been insulted to the point of rudeness.
"Well, my judgement is exceptional," Tia said snootily, smirking as she looked down her nose at him. Okay, so he'd complimented her by giving her his trust. Which, to Tia, even though it was in the smallest capacity - taste - meant a lot. Trust was the foundation of her very person. Which was why she often led with such deep mistrust of others.
As she flopped down on the sofa, Tia half expected Liam to be gone as soon as she gave him an out. Instead, he reacted with sharpness and Tia was so surprised she lifted her head, a defensive crease between her brows. "I'm not..." She sniffed, wrinkling her nose and looking away. She was. "That's not what I meant." She huffed, sitting forward so that she wasn't slumped.
"It's not- I'm not like you, I don't have a lot of friends." She didn't know Liam all that well, but she knew he hung around Ethan and her sister Tamara. And to Tia, they were prime examples of 'the social butterfly. "Not we're-" She didn't say it, that they weren't friends. Though this was perhaps their first personal interaction, it didn't feel like it. He felt like a friend would feel.
Sighing, Tia felt extremely silly. "I just meant- you don't have to pretend... if you are." Shaking her head, she declared the entire speech a great waste of air and threw herself sideways on the sofa. "It's not that I would mind company..." She clarified, the most candid she'd been since she'd sat down. "I can look over my notes if you want to read."
She shifted, standing to go and grab her black spotted stack of parchment from where she'd discarded it on the floor and threw herself in to the corner of the sofa, curling her knees up and setting the papers on her lap. There was enough room for him. If he wanted to sit down. "Are you going to make me say it?" She said grumpily, widening her eyes and shaking her head expectantly. "Sit down, you idiot."

Liam didn't understand how it was happening, but he seemed to be coming out of his shell around Tia, which was a complete surprise to him, but nice at the same time. Liam normally had a hard time coming out of his shell when he was around anyone but Ethan and Dom (since she was always around). At the same time though, this felt normal. He smirked at Tia, "What kind of a retort is that?" he teased, unable to help himself.
"It's a good thing I'm trusting you then," Liam shot right back, not letting her get away with teasing him. Why did he feel the need to one-up her? Maybe he was trying to gain her trust in return, in some strange way of taunting her.
Then, when he was blunt, she admitted that she wasn't trying to push him away. He smiled, even though she wasn't looking. She started talking about how she didn't have a lot of friends, stumbling over her words. He moved a little closer to her, his mood growing more serious now even though he didn't join her on the couch. "I don't have a lot of friends," he admitted. "I have Ethan ... and by extension, Dom. They're the only people I really talk to." Other than with Tia right now, which was strange enough as it was. "But we could be ..." he couldn't finish his sentence, nerves taking over at the last minute. He didn't want to offer to be her friend just so she could reject him.
He shook his head at her, but didn't say anything when she kept talking. She suddenly said she was going to review her noties and he watched her as she moved to get them. She came back and grumbled at him before finally telling him to sit down. Liam grinned at her before sitting on the other end of the couch. "I'm not pretending, you know," he said after a moment. "I like talking to you." He really did. She was easy to talk to and he didn't have to worry about what she'd think because Tia was candid enough to just tell him.

WITH NARROWED EYES, TIA'S MOUTH FELL OPEN slightly. He just couldn't let her have the last word, could he? Which was quite funny since Tia was the exact same. She took his reply and shook her head, a bit indignant. "Well, it was better than yours!" She declared, a hand finding its way to her hip as she turned away from him. Though her change of direction was perhaps more to hide the slight smile on her face.
However, Tia did allow herself a small, but genuine smile, when Liam didn't immediately take back his offered trust. She had been sarcastic, more as if to defend her position than to dismiss his offering. "Yeah, it is." She said, pursing her lips to hide her smile after a moment. It wasn't usual for her. And she thought maybe, in time, she could trust him too. As long as he didn't go running back to Tam with their whole exchange.
Sitting down, that thought was lingering in the back of her mind. She hadn't meant to seem as if she were seeing him off. His company wasn't actually that bad. A bit infuriating, maybe, but she found she didn't mind that quite as much as she thought she would. She looked up disbelievingly when he told her he didn't have a lot of friends. His little group, of which she seen whenever Tam was around, begged to differ.
A snide remark was held back, however, when she found his face serious. Open, even. As if trusting her with small and intimate facts about himself. She was rather stumped at that. "Could be what?" She said, wanting to hear him state their potential friendship aloud. She certainly wouldn't have the gall to say so first.
When he finally sat down Tia sighed. Both in relief and manufactured exasperation. She'd hoped they would sit in companionable silence, so when he broke it she was surprised. Her hands stilled, the shuffling of papers quieting. "I like talking to you, too." She said without looking up, resuming the quiet reshuffling of her notes. "Friend..." She added after a moment, nothing but the slight upturn of her cheeks displaying her smirking smile.
@liam we could potentially finish this here??

Liam rolled his eyes when she said her retort was better than his. Sure it was ... not. But he was done arguing with her, even though it was in jest. It was kind of nice though, this chat so late at night. He felt more open than normal and hoped that it would continue with Tia. It was strange how he could talk with her so easily, but he wanted to. He nodded as she continued to talk about him trusting her, but didn't say anything. Liam was running out of words, which wasn't an entirely novel experience for him, but he wasn't sure how Tia would respond to it. Hopefully she wouldn't get offended. The next thing she did was sit down, so he figured he was fine. He tensed at her question. "Could be ... friends?" he made it a question, but one look at her face told him that she was good with that idea. He smiled, feeling relief, especially when she spoke, saying that she liked talking to him and then called him a friend. He nodded, then got comfortable in the couch and opened the poetry book. The two of them sat in companionable silence for a long time, until he had to go to bed. @tia --- the end ---
