Evelyn was more nervous than she cared to admit. Things were getting better with Dustin, slowly yet steadily. Six months ago, when all the things happened with her and Rocco, she was convinced that she lost her best friend forever. She didn't think he'd ever be able to forgive her for keeping her relationship a secret from him, but things seemed to be getting better. Today, they were going to do something. Ev didn't really know what, which was part of the reason why she was nervous, but she was glad that they were going to do something together. Maybe things would start going back to the way they were before. She felt comfortable teasing him again, but a part of her still felt like she was walking on egg-shells, worried that if she did something else to upset him, he'd never come back. She kept telling herself that was an irrational fear. He told her months ago that the people that really cared would always come back and she hoped he was implying that he was one of those people.
They were meeting at a park and Ev sat up straight and tall on a bench, looking around and trying to let the soothing atmosphere calm her nerves. It was a nice summer day, not too hot, and there was a gentle breeze that she really appreciated. She was trying not to seem too nervous, but Dustin knew her well enough that it might not work.

Dustin had asked Ev to go out with him sometime before he had left for his family vacation, sure that the time that he spent reconnecting with his family would give him something to talk about with his friend. Updates about his sisters were always easy to talk about. But Dustin had decided that he needed to cut ties with Kinsey, and even though it had hurt… he knew it was the right decision for him. He couldn’t be surrounding himself with more people who put him second in their lives. Just once, he’d like to be first. He was a little worried that his conversation with Evelyn would be equally heated, because she had done the exact same thing, and he hadn’t cut her out completely. That was kind of the point, though – Dustin had been hurt before, and he had put himself in a position to be hurt again. Without Kinsey in his life (or any of his other sisters for that matter), then he couldn’t be hurt again. It wasn’t the best way to handle things, but Dustin had never claimed that anything that he was doing was healthy.
Needless to say, Dustin was not in the best mood, but he still needed to go to his meeting with Evelyn. He wasn’t going to stand her up just because he was pissed off at the world. Dustin ambled through the park, scanning the area for his friend but not able to see her yet.

Ev wasn't quite sure what to expect from this meeting with Dustin. Things seemed to be getting better over the past few months with Dustin, but at the same time a part of her wondered if he'd ever be able to forgive her for what she'd done. She missed him, but she didn't want to make things worse by trying to push him into doing things with her. Still, she was trying to wait patiently for as long as she could.
After a bit, she stood up and looked around, and she saw him. Dustin. He seemed to be looking around a bit so she walked towards him. "Hey Dustin," she said in a quiet voice when she was close enough to reach him.
