Brandon could tell that Jimmie was trying hard to do exactly what he told her to and he smiled to himself. It was easier to teach people that were really interested and wanted to do as he asked ... not that he'd ever tried to teach anyone before. He just assumed it would be easier to teach someone this way. Then again, he shouldn't be so surprised by her attitude. It was obvious that she was a very passionate person, as shown by her dance a short while ago. His smile widened when she started laughing, exclaiming that she was doing it. "You are," he confirmed immediately. He shrugged when she said it wasn't an apparating exam. "It's pretty good, for your first time holding a guitar." Brandon was definitely the encouraging type, but he also wasn't exaggerating. She started to ask how long it would be until she'd be better and he made a face. "That depends on how much you practice," he said honestly. "You can go to the Room of Requirement and find instruments there whenever you want to practice. That'll help you get better faster." At her next question, Brandon paused. He honestly didn't know what to say. "That's not really how I learned. I didn't have someone teach me, I just started playing." He just understood instruments, from the time he was a young kid. It was almost like he had an affinity for them, like some people got along with specific animals, he got along with instruments. It never took him a long time to get the sound he wanted out of them. He smiled, "So ... I'd say maybe a few days if you practice?" It was a question because he didn't know how much time she had to dedicate to music. It was everything to him, but he knew that not everyone felt that way. Jameson Hera Blishwick

THOUGH A CYNICAL LITTLE PART OF JIMMIE managed to snort in reply to Brandon's compliment, she still felt the blood rush to her cheeks in response. It always felt good to be good at something. Even if only in the most basic, plebeian respects. Not like dance class, where every second word was a critique on form and stance. This felt better, if only for an afternoon.
Leaning against the body of the guitar, Jimmie nodded along to Brandon's words. She knew the Room of Requirement was supposed to have something for everyone, but Jimmie's head was already miles ahead. "I want my own," She said with a manic grin, running her hand along the shiny curves of the polished instrument. "What kind of guitar would you recommend?" She sniffed as she looked up. Brandon could tell her the best of the best was a rubber chicken and she'd probably believe him.
Though the fact that he seemed to be a born natural would have irked Jimmie if he wasn't so nice. She didn't feel like a natural at anything. Perhaps that was why she hopped so freely from hobby to hobby. "Well, can't say the same," Jimmie smirked, shrugging her shoulders loosely. "Suppose I'll just need to practice like the other normies."

Brandon couldn't tell that Jimmie didn't entirely believe him, but she was also pleased by his answer and he was glad about that. He wasn't going to lie about her abilities, but being positive was always the best way to help people succeed. He smiled and nodded when she said that she wanted her own guitar. He could definitely understand that. Having your own instrument was wonderful because you could practice or ply it whenever and wherever you wanted. "I would recommend one like this. A DR-100," he said, gesturing to it. "It's my favorite kind, but really most kinds that you find in Diagon Alley are pretty good. I prefer acoustic to other kinds too." Of course, if she wanted to learn on a bass or electric guitar he'd still help her, but he personally didn't think they sounded as good as an acoustic one. Just personal preference though. His smile widened into a grin, "I still practice," he argued, good-naturedly. "Practice is a good thing. It helps everyone, no matter how well or poorly they play ... or with anything they do, I suppose." He wondered if needing to practice would make it so Jimmie wasn't as interested in playing as she seemed to be now. Jameson Hera Blishwick

LOOKING DOWN AT THE GUITAR IN HER LAP Jimmie tried to decide if she liked how it felt. If, when she asked for one of her own, this one would fit. In the end she decided yes, she in fact would. But, that probably had more to do with the fact that Brandon had suggested it. "DR-1 something it is," She joked, grinning, but she held the instrument with careful reverence. "It's a really beautiful thing." She admired, thinking of what her own would look like. How she would care for it. Gosh, she had a lot of research to do.
With a careless shrug, Jimmie thought she might disagree a little with what Brandon had said. He seemed pretty perfect at playing already. What else was there to learn? And so she asked him just that. "Like what?" She asked, her brows pulled together in disbelief. But, then her eyes slowly scanned up to the clock tower and she spied the time.
"Oh... shoot!" She swore, uncrossing her legs to stand up. "I have this dumb... Muggle Film Study thing." She rolled her eyes as if it wasn't at one point the highlight of her week. Best to keep up the pretence. "We should make this a thing, though, yeah?" She gestured to his guitar, which she still held as if it belonged to her. Reluctantly, she handed it back.
"When are you free? I can do Wednesday evenings, Sunday afternoons and every second Monday..." Jimmie had always been a busy girl, juggling multiple interests at once, adding another was too easy for her. She bent to gather up her forgotten ballet shoes, but they were destined for the bottom of her trunk. "This was... so fun, Brandon." She enthused, and she meant it. "I'll see you soon!"

Brandon chuckled when Jimmie kind of repeated the name of his instrument back to him. "It is, isn't it," he uttered, smiling as he gazed at his guitar. Man, he loved that thing. He loved sharing and letting other people learn, but above all he just loved playing and being with his music and all that. Brandon rolled his eyes. Of course she'd doubt that he needed practice, but everyone did. Even famous musicians had to practice in order to keep themselves good. "Like new songs, or ones I haven't played in a while, or just practicing chords and things so I can move faster or whatever." Even not practicing for a week or two made it more difficult when he picked up his guitar again, but most people didn't understand that. They thought it was like walking: once you can do it you always can. The thing was, even with walking, if you stop entirely for a while it can be harder to start up again. Your muscles lose their strength. She was suddenly standing, saying she had to go to some study thing and Brandon smiled. "Sure. Whenever you want. I'm normally pretty easy to find," he told her. Brandon would have no problem helping her learn no play the guitar in any situation. He liked helping people learn things. He took his guitar as she held it out. "Wednesday Evenings sound good to me, but really ... whenever you want." He smiled as she started to take off. "See you!" He called after her, chuckling as he started to strum his guitar once more. --- the end --- Jameson Hera Blishwick
