(For those Ilvermorny students that desire, they may post in this thread with their sorting experience!)
The start of term feast. The beginning of a new journey. Some would be returning to Hogwarts for the last time. Some would be arriving for their first. And many would be continuing their journey of their education, one year older and wiser. This was a unique year as well. Ilvermorny's summer vandalism had seen many of the Ilvermorny students coming to the impossibly large castle of Hogwarts. The school had been underused for many, many years. Two wizarding wars had reduced the magical population of the UK immensily, so it'd been a logical choice to send Ilvermonry here, to a school that could house so many more students. Headmistress McGonagall could remember a time when she first started to work at Hogwarts, teaching Transfiguration under the head of Department, Albus Dumbledor. Back then it'd been a whole team of teachers teaching one subject. Now, only one was needed. As students flowed into the Great Hall the headmistress couldn't help but crack the smallest of smiles at seeing so many unfamiliar faces. Maybe, just maybe this would be the first step in returning Hogwarts to it's former glory, the one she grew up with and taught at before war ravaged their numbers.
The start of term feast was always a special occassion. But this year was even more so. There would be two sorting ceremonies to be had. The first years, and the Ilvermorny students. Ilvermorny had it's own houses, but it did not translate to the Hogwarts ones. They were simply too different. It would be a bittersweet moment for many of the Ilvermorny students, because friends they'd shared a house with for so many years may end up in different Hogwarts houses. But they would have the opportunity to make new ones.
The sorting ceremony for the first years was conducted by one of the many teachers. First calling the first years up to the stool and placing the sorting hat on their head. Each time the hat would call out a Hogwarts house. Gryffindor. Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw. Slytherin. Next would be the Ilvermorny students, each following suit and taking a seat at their new houses. Only after the ceremony was complete and the sorting hat taken away did Headmistress McGonagall stand, calling the Great Hall to attention before the feast would begin.
"This school year will bring many changes for all of us. We have many new faces among us tonight who will be calling our castle home this year. We welcome each and every one of you as not just guests but also new friends and classmates." a moments pause. "This year will be different in many ways, but if we work together, not as Hogwarts and Ilvermonry but as witches and wizards then we will come out stronger then ever. Change is hard, but sometimes good and needed. Now is one of those times. So let us help each other. Strengthen each other. Our potential and possibilities are only limited by the imagination and efforts of us all."
With that, the Headmistress returned to her seat, and the platters on tables magically filled. The feast had officially begun.

“Kaylee Mahi’ai.”
Kaylee’s lungs filled with a deep breath. Plenty of her fellow students had gone before her and been Sorted into their Hogwarts Houses. She had been Sorted at Ilvermorny years before, so she had no reason to be so apprehensive, she thought, yet she had already seen how people she knew from Horned Serpent had been placed into different Houses. The shake-up was what had worried her. How were things supposed to be now?
She turned her head and looked out at the long tables. Everyone from Hogwarts, as well as everyone who had already been Sorted from Ilvermorny was somewhere out there. Kaylee recognized some of the faces from the beach party that had been held over a month before, but there were hundreds of people she didn’t know, too.
She looked again to where all of the staff were sitting, in the opposite direction of the students from where she stood. Aside from the few who had come from Ilvermorny, she didn’t know anything about the people who would be teaching her.
Breathing out, Kaylee walked forward until she reached the stool and sat down upon it before her legs gave out.
I don’t know where you’re going to put me, she thought as the Sorting Hat made its way down upon her head, but—
“SLYTHERIN!” roared the Sorting Hat, at which news the table of students in green gave the strongest reaction to the announcement. In that moment, Kaylee couldn’t even recall who else she knew in Slytherin House, only that she had somewhere to sit.

“Jacob Kowalski.”
Jacob was snapped out his thoughts as someone called his name. He could only assume it was a staff member of Hogwarts. He hadn’t really been paying attention to that nor the speech that someone had been giving. He certainly heard bits and pieces of it but he had spent most of his time in his own head and in the heads of a few other students. Nothing menacing or rude, Jacob just wanted some reassurance that this wasn’t going to go terrible for anyone. Everyone felt a little uneasy it seemed, at least to Jacob it did. He had watched others go up after their names were called but Jacob didn’t move so quickly as others had. He was nervous and he couldn’t help it. He liked people and always wanted to make new friends but a great hall this big filled with people he mostly didn’t know was very off putting.
Still there was a nudge from behind pushing him forward. “Go idiot! They called you.” The all to familiar voice of his sister said and Jacob sighed for a moment at the laughs of the few around them. “Thanks...” Jacob muttered as he made his way to the front of the great hall. He was fine with people he knew but all these people he had never seen before staring at him and whispering to each other weren't helping him. Jacob knew they were talking among themselves and it probably wasn’t about him but he couldn’t help it. Jacob took a seat at the stool in front and waited. Before he knew it a hat was dropped onto his head, it barely fit and he didn’t like it. He never wore hats to begin with, honestly he just missed the statues of Ilvermorny. “As long as this place has a kitchen I’ll be fine.” Jacob thought to himself waiting for the hat to say something. “Kitchen hm?” A voice not his own said within his own mind, it sounded like that even if that seemed crazy to him. “You seem nice enough, I’ll put you close to them.” It finished before the hat shouted, “Hufflepuff!”
A table cheered and Jacob wasn’t sure why, still he assumed that was the Hufflepuff table. It had to be with all the yellow around it and Jacob smiled. At least that were cheering that he was a Hufflepuff now. It wasn’t home but he felt just a little better about this all of a sudden seeing some smiling faces. Jacob found a seat and watched on while the rest of his fellow students were sorted. Waiting for Katherine’s sorting in particular.

”Kisumi Moore,” the teacher called out, and Kisumi broke from the line with a frown as she muttered ”Kisumi,” correcting the pronunciation under her breath. It wasn’t how she would have liked her introduction to go. Still, she wasn’t even remotely afraid as she pulled the Sorting Hat onto her head - no, she was thinking about what a great adventure this was all going to be. Thunderbird to her dying days, she thought, or until about ten seconds from now when she gained a Hogwarts House.
”Another wild child,” the hat seemed to think into her brain with a sigh, and Kisumi wondered how that even worked. She’d read about Legilimency, but how on earth did anyone imbue an inanimate object with the power to essentially read minds. And ‘the Founders did it’ was not an answer. The potential for artificial intelligence - did it count as passing the Turing Test if nothing was actually said, just thought? And how did you even think a sigh?
”But who am I to argue with such curiosity? Just an old hat. It had best be” it continued, and then suddenly she knew it was speaking aloud for all to hear as it concluded, ”RAVENCLAW”.
The table decked out in blue applauded politely, as she grinned. Curiosity, huh? Trait of Ravenclaws and Thunderbirds alike. She could work with that.

ELI WATCHED HIS BROTHER'S NAME BE CALLED before him. Gryffindor they said, and Eli's hands ached from clapping so hard. Something easing in his chest when he realised that Brigh would be in the same house. His brother would be fine. And next, it was his name being called. A booming voice that twisted Eli's gut with anticipation and anxiousness. He'd done all of this before. Though the method was different, the goal was the same. Why was he so worried?
Sitting on the stool his brother had warmed before him, the Sorting Hat flapped around his ears and Eli thought, 'it kind of smells of old leather boots...' Only to have a voice gruffly reprimand him in his ear, 'Not off to a great start, are we?' Eli's neck immediately craned back, his chin tilting to one side, mouth gaping open as the voice groused inside of his head. "You're in my head?!" he gasped gleefully, a little too loud as the Hat seemed to sway and consider atop his mass of dark hair. 'Definitely not your typical sort of academic, are we..' it remarked and Eli's face fell.
"Can't I be in Gryffindor, Sir? My brother is in Gryffindor." But the Hat seemed to only briefly consider his request before dismissing it altogether. 'No, I know just the place for you...' and almost as soon as it said it, an almighty call sounded out around the Great Hall: "Hufflepuff!"
It was with disappointment and insecurity that Eli hopped from his stool. Putting on a brave face as he was met with an almighty round of applause. It was quite lightening, he reasoned, that he was at least welcomed with open arms. As he passed, he he gave his brother a thumbs up, pressing his lips together in to a thin but hopefully reassuring smile.
Eventually, however, Eli had to sit down. Squeezing between a boy he'd seen be placed not long before him. An Ilvermorny transfer, at least. Familiar in way that most of his fellow transfers were; as in they stuck out like sore thumbs. "Hey," Eli greeted, his leg jerking under the table restlessly. "Was the Hat- thing, the Sorter... did it insult you?" Eli asked, a wrinkle between his brows as he laughed breathlessly. "I think it called me stupid..." Though this was a sore spot for Eli. Personal enough that he may have saw something in nothing. "I'm Eli," He greeted, holding out his hand between them.

Jacob watched the sorting continue, he wasn’t sure what their method for calling names were but that didn’t seem to be exactly alphabetical. That didn’t matter much, Jacob was still intently waiting for his sisters sorting more than anyone else. He wasn’t sure about everything just yet and also unsure if he wanted to still be in the same house as her. They never got along and she always made his life just a little harder. Yet at the same time this was his sister and they had been in the same house for six years already. As it wasn’t his sisters sorting Jacob wasn’t exactly paying attention so when the person who had just been sorted was done and sat next to him it was a little surprising and brought out of his thoughts. The boy spoke about his sorting and what the hat said and Jacob smiled being friendly. “It didn’t insult me actually, at least I don’t think so.” Jacob paused for a few second going over what the hat had said to him. “I’m not really sure what happened, I just was wondering about the kitchen here and it said it would put me near them.” All he could do was laugh as he thought back on it. A hat was such a weird way of sorting as he thought some more on it, how it could talk also. “It’s okay I guess but I do prefer the statues of Ilvermorny for sorting than this hat.” Jacob didn’t want to turn this whole year into him saying how he preferred how Ilvermorny did things but he couldn’t help it here. “Nice to meet you, I’m Jacob.” He said as he shook the hand that Eli offered. "Jacob Kowalski,", she heard. Of course her brother would go first. And a hat? Really? These people were absurd. The fact that it only gave you one choice as far as she could tell was even more bogus. And - why wasn't he moving? She pushed against her brothers back, "go, idiot! They just called you," she said, not really trying to hide her voice as she did so. Jake moved ahead, muttering an absent thank you and then he was there, sitting down on the stool. The hat touched his head and she found herself biting down on her lip. "Hufflepuff!" Hufflepuff? Which house was that again? The table in yellow cheered and Katherine's gaze followed her brother. There were a lot of smiling faces at that table and Lance. Lance was at that table. She felt her heart sink. She immediately knew she wouldn't be placed there. But, that was no matter. There was somewhere better for her, she was sure of it. She'd been told about it. "Katherine Kowalski!" the Headmistress called. She marched up immediately, not hesitating at all. As the hat was placed on her head she kept her eyes straight forward, mostly to avoid looking to Lance or Jake or her younger sibling. "My, my, you sure have big plans, my dear. Quite daring, but cleverer than those who charge headfirst into battle. Yes... I see your aspirations require much hard work on your part, but not the hard work of those badgers, no... this is a different kind. You understand gain, and how to get what you need... SLYTHERIN!"Katherine didn't even take a second to breathe before taking off the wretched hat and crossing to the table clad with green accents. Yes, this was her place. These were her people. She sat down, giving a few nods and not taking any handshakes, before turning to watch her younger siblings be sorted. (Mentioned lancelot ray linley and @jacob)

This was the moment Jace had been waiting for since he found out he'd be attending a new school this year. Sure, he knew that dangerous things were happening at this school during the last few years. His parents were sure to read him the rites before he came, making him promise to behave himself and follow all the rules. Ha. Like that was even a possibility. Still, he would try his best to be safe. He was excited as he waited to see how the sorting ceremony worked at Hogwarts. He hadn't been able to learn anything about it, but he'd decided that was fine. Whatever it was, he could deal with it.
When they brought out a hat, he frowned a little. That was weird. Oh well. He watched as other students were called to the front, the hat placed on their heads and then deciding where they went. That was definitely weird, but also nothing to worry about. When his name was called, Jace jumped to his feet and made his way to the stool. He sat on it and smirked at all the people sitting in front of him, watching him expectantly. What he didn't expect was to hear a voice in his head. "Oh, an adventurer, are you?" What was going on? Was that the hat? "But quite clever at the same time ... still, there's really only one place to put you." Jace lifted an eyebrow as he waited to hear the hat's verdict. "Gryffindor!" The hat shouted, and a moment later it was lifted off his head. Jace grinned as he made his way to the group that was cheering the most. They seemed a very rambunctious lot, which was fine with him. He turned around and looked to the group of his peers still waiting for their turn, looking for Brooke and wondering where the hat would put her. He couldn't help but hope that she'd be with him in Gryffindor, even though he knew he'd be fine if she wasn't.

Hogwarts was even bigger then she thought it would be, and she was quite surprised at how beautiful it was. No words could even describe the historical castle of which she was about to enter. Even the inside reeked of history, of battles fought and won, of ghost that roamed its very hallways. The moment they walked up a staircase and entered a vast room, she knew she was in for some trouble. They sorted the new students first, all the first-year students that would be starting their wizarding journey from the very beginning in these halls. Once they were finished, the Ilvermorny transfers were presented and pushed down upon a stool that held a hat. One by one, the hat cried out the name of a house. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. And one by one, they moved to the table that clapped the loudest and proudest.
‘Bianca Daniel!’
Her name was called, and quickly her eyes flashed up towards the teacher holding the old and disgusting hate, and slowly but surely, she made her way up the few steps and settled down upon the stool. The moment the hat was placed down upon her head, she flinched. A gruff chuckle was heard in her head, and with wide eyes, she glanced around, there was no male around her. ‘Hm…a fascinating young woman aren’t you? You’ve been through quite a lot, but still, you have a bitter tongue. But I do see some interesting things about you, determination…there are a few places I would put you. Perhaps Ravenclaw, but no, you don’t hold the values that they do…’ She rolled her eyes, picking at her robe as she waited for the dumb thing to get on with it. It seemed to sense her frustration and patience running thing, ‘You hide behind a wall, but no matter…I say…SLYTHERIN!’
With a sigh and a smirk, she made her way from that horrible stool and away from the smelly hat and towards the table where a huge group was making the most noise. Wasn’t that the house of the young boy she sat with on the train, Emeric or whatever. She quickly glanced down the table and noticed him, and with a small wink, she promptly sat down. One by one her friends were sorted elsewhere, even Jacob went to a new house, but once Ashley and Katherine were sorted within Slytherin and sat down near her, she knew she was where she belonged.
Once everyone had sat down, and the sorting was through, that the Headmistress stood once more and began a speech. And once she was through with her words, with a turn on her heels, food appeared before them. She smiled, she was home.

Ellie was excited, from the moment she and Kaylee had gotten off of the train, until the moment she stood with the Great Hall. It took a bit before the Ilvermorny transfers were sorted, having to sit through the traditional sorting ceremony of the newcomers that were starting out. With each passing moment, she was nervous, muttering to her friends that were close to her. She prayed that some of them would be sorted in whatever house she was about to enter, not wanting to part ways with them. She wouldn’t mind even being sorted in the same house as Elijah, the boy whom she had run into over the summer and had gone for ice cream with. Hell, she even hoped that she and Raina would be sorted in the same house, but if they weren’t, she just prayed that they’d still talk. One by one, student after student went to get sorted. She paid close attention when familiar names got called, especially if they were bullies, and made sure that she remembered who went where. And then, as they drew closer to her last name, she grew even more fidgety.
‘Ellie Nottingham!’
She swallowed but pulled herself together as she rose up the steps and placed herself down on the stool. A hat following suit and becoming placed upon her head. She swallowed once more, looking around as silence was met with her. She wondered what it was thinking, or did it think at all? She knew that it spoke, had heard it constantly calling out homes as she went along, and then she heard it. ‘RAVENCLAW!’
She smiled brightly as she removed herself from the seat, of course, after the hat had been removed. She already knew that she was in a house where some of her friends had been placed elsewhere, but there were a small few that had gone into the Ravenclaw home. Finding herself among the clapping students, she gave handshakes and smiles as they settled down for the ceremony to continue. Again, one by one, more students were sorted, and finally, they were allowed to eat. The moment the headmistress gave her speech and turned around to sit once more, food appeared before them. With wide eyes and a surprised look on her face, she quickly dove into the food and began to eat, all the while keeping up conversation with the surrounding people.

THE ENTIRE EXCHANGE WAS UNLIKELY TO BE ONE Eli would soon forget. It was as eccentric and mad as everything in Hogwarts appeared to be. Not like Ilvermorny at all, though Eli was yet to decide if that was a bad thing. More so, it was a new place to explore. With new creatures and plant life. He was quite giddy about it all.
Sitting beside another transfer, Eli was quick to tell his tale. Not completely insulted, though learning it wasn't typical was a bit of a surprise. "Oh..." He said with a small laugh. "At least you got what you wanted?" Eli twisted to look over his shoulder briefly where his brother was chatting happily. Turning back was it hear the comparison from his new to his old sorting. Eli gave a large shrug, "Stones were definitely more sophisticated." He looked back to where a new student was being sorted. "But, I kind of like the hat. It's funny."
All Eli remembered of his Ilvermorny sorting was how daunting it all was. The towering stones, the fear of it all. The hat was gimmicky. And completely devoid of the same pressures. Shaking Jacob's hand, Eli grinned. "You too!" He found himself looking at Jacob's face and deciding whether or not he was familiar. Vaguely, maybe, but nothing much beyond that. "You weren't Puckwudgie, right?" He frowned, realising that if he were that was probably insulting. His nose wrinkled slightly. "It's just, I don't really recognise you."

Jacob laughed for a moment as his fellow Ilvermorny student had explained that at least he had gotten what he wanted. He hadn’t really thought of it like that but if the Hufflepuff common room was indeed near the kitchens he’d be happy with just that. “I suppose you’re right. I guess it could have been worse. I could have been placed in whichever house in is up the towers.” He said mostly joking but he never was a fan of going up and down stairs constantly. Not to say Ilvermorny didn’t have towers either. The boy just nodded as they both seemed to agree about the statues before Eli said that he did like the hat. It had been funny and all Jacob could do was laugh a little. “You have a point as long as any of the other hundred students before us didn’t have lice.”“No, me and my sister were both in Wampus but my littler brother was in Pukwudgie though.” While Jacob explained he looked back toward the sorting. This time his sister was actually up, it was quick as the hat shouted Slytherin. It was a weird mixture of feelings for me. They had always been in the same house and while it had almost never been fun they were still family after all. “Yet it looks like everyone is getting divided up for this year.” He thought out loud thinking it probably wouldn’t be so bad. They were already split up anyway since his little brother didn’t come to Wampus like his sister and him. “Do you have any siblings?” Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI HAD NO IDEA WHERE ANYTHING WHERE anything was at Hogwarts. He supposed there was probably a map somewhere he could have read but he hadn't considered it until then. "Wouldn't mind a tower," Eli shrugged, he was always climbing trees. "Heights?" He asked Jacob curiously, wondering after his aversion. Though his thoughts were soon consumed by Jacob's passing comment. His eyes widened before he barked a laugh, slapping the table top once as he did, "I didn't even think of that!" Though he found that almost as funny as the hat.
"Ah!" Eli exclaimed with relief. "That explains it." He'd been sure he'd have recognised Jacob if they'd shared a house, but there was always that wrinkle of doubt. "What's his name?" Eli asked after his brother, though there was always the possibility they simply didn't have a reason to interact. Eli turned with Jacob to watch the next sorting, wondering if they were a friend or a relation. The similar colouring had Eli leaning toward relation. He clapped with the others as she was sorted in to Slytherin.
"Tell me about it," Eli huffed, rubbing the ache out of his hands absently. "My little brother was sorted in to Gryffindor," He thumbed over his shoulder, peeking over it to make sure his brother was still okay. "Our sister's are graduates, so they missed the boat." Eli told Jacob, smiling as he thought about how pissed his sister's would be at never knowing their Hogwart's house. "My brother was a Thunderbird back at Ilvermorny, but I don't know.." Eli smiled as he picked at a chip in the wooden table. "It's different here, you know? I wish we'd been put together."

Ashley was excited to be here. Despite the attacks that she'd heard of over the last several years, Hogwarts was a famous school and she was going to take everything in. She loved school and learning and felt positive that those feelings wouldn't change, even though she was in a new place. As she walked inside the building, Ash took in the old walls and the semi-dark corridors. Yes, it was definitely going to be a bit different here, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. At least she still had her friends here. Bianca and Katherine, namely. When she entered the Great Hall, she glanced up at the ceiling. Of course, she read about the school before coming here, so she knew about how it was enchanted, but that didn't make it any less cool. She wasn't showing that excitement on her face. Instead, Ashley donned a small smirk and looked around the room with a cool gaze. When they brought out a hat, her eyebrows furrowed a little. It looked old and used and she didn't know why they were showing it off. At least, not until the first person was sorted into their house. Oh. Great. Ashley wasn't really nervous about being sorted, but at the same time she was a little bit. She'd have to sit at the front of the room in front of a room full of people and let a hat announce her future. She watched as person after person went up, not really watching unless it was a familiar name or someone she knew. She paid attention when Katherine and Bianca were placed, and when Eli was. Her stomach clenched when she saw him. They hadn't talked since that day last year and she knew that it shouldn't bother her, but it did. When they called her name, Ashley walked to the front of the room and sat on the stool, waiting. She felt them place the hat on her head and closed her eyes, though she couldn't help but wrinkle her nose slightly. "Hmmm," the hat started speaking in her mind. "You've got quite a good mind, haven't you. You like feeling in control, and seem to know exactly where you want to go ..." he thought a bit more and Ashley tried to keep her mind blank, despite the sarcastic comments rolling around. "You could go in Ravenclaw, but that drive to be the best and how you're going to get there ... no, I think I know just where you should go." Though her eyes were still closed, Ashley rolled her eyes, "Can you get on with it then," she thought to the hat. It didn't respond in her mind, merely announced, "Slytherin!" to the room. Ashley smiled once the hat was on her head and made her way to the table that was clapping the loudest. She moved to sit near Bianca and Katherine, since she knew them best. Once she was sitting, she looked around the room. Her eyes found Eli almost automatically. She tried to pull her gaze away from him, but couldn't. Despite the fact that they hadn't spoken in months, she missed him. It was nice to see him again, now that summer was over. Then she froze when his head turned and their eyes met. She couldn't look away now. She knew she should look away, that them staring at one another could not be a good idea, but she couldn't help it. Eli was looking at her and she didn't want to break that small contact with him. It was more than she'd had in months and she missed it. She eventually turned away when someone said her name, only then realizing that her heart was racing and her face a little warmer than it should be. Fine. If anyone noticed, she'd just say it was hot in the room. It had nothing to do with the fact that Eli was looking at her. Nothing at all. Bianca Alia Rivera /@katie ... wanna talk? Elijah Theron Fleming - mentioned (also, got permission to say that he looked at her hahaha)
