Hugo shrugged when his mom answered his question. “I dunno. Maybe she doesn’t like waffles enough to be a part of a waffle bar.” Hugo laughed. He wasn’t entirely serious about thinking that Xan wouldn’t want to be a part of it, but he wanted to have fun with his mom on this, their last breakfast together before he left for his last year of school. Man, he was about to go through a bunch of “lasts” and he didn’t like it. He just wanted to have fun. He knew he was going to have to make sure he didn’t see his last year that way. He smiled at his mom. “Ooooor I could try to find a way to put it on for the whole school. Maybe a waffle bar would help bring the Ilvermorny and Hogwarts students together?” He chuckled, though the idea was starting to appeal to him a bit. It could be fun! And be a good way to maybe get to know the other students better. “Alright, I’ll have to see what the other leaders think about it. Great idea, Mum,” he told her, chuckling still. A waffle bar. Of course that would be Hugo’s first contribution to the school year.

Hermione shook her head. Who didn’t like waffles? They were light, fluffy, and they went with such a wide variety of toppings - what was not to like? “I’m quite sure Xan likes waffles Hugo,” she said with a chuckle as she went about washing the dishes. Though she was a skilled witch, Hermione found an odd comfort in doing the dishes by hand; it reminded her of her Muggleborn heritage, and how fortunate she was to have been latently born with magical abilities. If the outcome of the Second Wizarding War had gone in favor of Voldemort, she doubted she would even be alive - she would be wandless for certain, and reduced to nothing in the eyes of the Wizarding World. She wondered if Voldemort or Bellatrix Lestrange would have re-died from shock in learning of her appointment to Minister for Magic. Despite the grim nature of her thoughts, she chuckled a bit to herself. “I think you are well on your way to being a proper Head Boy Hugo Weasley. I better watch myself if I want to keep my Minister position in the coming years,” she said teasingly as the idea of the waffle bar took off. She could see the excitement building in her sons’ eyes, that buoyant enthusiasm that he got from his father. “Now, run up to get dressed, we simply can’t be late for the train,” she told him, trying not to get emotional that it was almost time for that last goodbye at Platform 9 ¾. @hugo

It was hilarious, the fact that he had his mom so worked up over waffles. Granted, she wasn't angry or anything, but she was definitely thinking too much about them and Hugo took pride in that face. His eyes widened innocently as he lifted his hands, "Who knows? Maybe she actually hates them. You know, there are always people who don't like things that everyone else does?" Yes, he was only still talking about this to tease his mom. It was fun and he was definitely enjoying it. He gave his mom a strange look when she started laughing softly as she did the dishes. What was she thinking about.
He laughed, "Yeah right, Mum. I love you and appreciate what you do, but there's no way I could get paid enough to be Minister. I wanna goof off way too much to have that sort of responsibility. Just because I'm going to plan a school activity doesn't mean I wanna deal with all that." Hugo knew she'd been teasing as well, but he also knew she'd enjoy it if he played into it. He snatched another waffle up as she told him to get dressed. "Alright, I'm going, I'm going!" He said, taking a bite of it plain as he ran to his room.
Minutes later he came back down. "Is this acceptable for my last first day of school?" He asked, fully convinced the waterworks were about to begin. Maybe if they got it all out here ... eh, there would be tears at the train no matter what. Who was he kidding?

Hermione wrinkled her nose good naturedly at her son, shaking her head at his comment of Xan not liking waffles. “Well, I’m pretty sure in the dozens of times she and her siblings have been here she’s eaten waffles for breakfast, and I can’t seem to remember any complaints from her,” she told him teasingly, watching him as he raced up the stairs to get dressed. She barely had time to register that this was going to be the last time he’d get dressed for his first day back at school when he was back downstairs, showing off his outfit. “Hmm...spin for me,” she commented, making a twirling gesture with her hands. Hermione knew she wasn’t the funniest person in the world - that title probably belonged to George Weasley. Ron was also a good deal funnier than her, but he wasn’t here at the moment. “You look perfect,” she finally said with a satisfied sigh. Hermione made her way upstairs and levitated Hugo’s trunk so it could make its way downstairs without bumping into anything. She very distinctly remembered a year when Ron had tried this particular trick, trying to levitate both Hugo and Rose’s trunks at the same time, with rather disastrous results. Fortunately, it had been easy enough to patch the holes in the walls, but Hermione had been rather frosty with her husband at the Platform. “Well then Mr. Head Boy; are you ready to venture back to Hogwarts one last time? As a student of course,” Hermione asked; she had no doubt, with Xanthippe staying behind an extra year, that Hugo would visit the schools hallowed halls once he graduated. @hugo

Hugo smirked and shrugged when his mother pressed her point. Yes, he was positive Xan didn't have any problems with waffles. He was just saying all that to try and get a rise out of his mother, which was exactly what he did get. Made the entire conversation more entertaining for him.
When he came down the stairs she told him to spin and Hugo did so, spinning twice and then stopping with flair and bowing to his mother, grinning. "Thanks, mum," he responded. "I'll tell Xan you said so, just in case she's of a mind to tease me today." He chuckled, fully aware that it was unlikely Xan would tease him about how he looked. He let his mum levitate his trunk down, knowing that she wanted to help him.
He nodded when his mother asked if he was ready, though he groaned a little, "Oh Mum, don't talk about it like that. I'd much rather pretend it's not my last time, you know that." Hugo honestly wasn't ready for his time at Hogwarts to be done. He enjoyed his time at the castle far too much. "But yes, let's be off so we can say hello to everyone on the platform." Hugo was fully aware that his mother enjoyed seeing all her old friends there, and he couldn't wait to see his friends either.

Hermione couldn’t help it, and laughed as Hugo spun and struck a pose as he came down the stairs. How did she get blessed with such a handsome, well rounded son? Hugo had turned out to be the perfect balance of herself and Ron, as had Rosie. Sometimes she wondered what she had done to deserve such amazing children; a small voice reminded her she had helped saved the wizarding world from Voldemort, but having the children she had been given seemed to be more than the best reward she could have been given. “Well I’ll tell Xan to take it easy on you,” she promised with a wide grin. She felt her eyes tear up as they opened the door to head out to the car. Even after all this time, she preferred driving the children to their departure at Kings Cross; she had even made Ron get his driving license so he could navigate the harrowing London streets. She assumed he’d be apparating this time around; she imagined he was probably elated to be doing so. “I’ll try my best to hold it together,” she promised, knowing full well she’d break her promise as soon as they rushed through the brick barrier to Platform 9 ¾. Taking a deep breath, she glanced back at the foyer to the house she and Ron had purchased together, knowing that this year would bring a lot of final chapters to a close. With a wistful sigh, she shook her head and closed the door, locking it behind her as she made her way to the car to bring Hugo to the Hogwarts Express for the last time. FIN I'm not crying you're crying
