Hermione knew there was a new Auror in the Ministry from the United States, and shockingly she had recognized his name when his file had passed by her desk. Graves, Quentin; she remembered him from her deep dives into history. Graves had been the name of the Auror in New York who had been taken over by Gellert Grindlewald himself when the Dark wizard had gone into hiding. She never had found out what truly happened to the real Graves, though she imagined it was nothing pleasant. Still, he must have had at least one child otherwise this new Graves would not be meeting her in her office this morning.

She had arrived early, as was typical for Hermione. With Hugo off to school and Rose working in the International Magical Cooperation department, she really had no reason to dally at home. Ron was still living above the joke shop, and with each passing day it seemed that the d word - divorce - was more and more likely. She tried not to think about it though; she wanted to know more about this American Auror and why he had decided to come across the Ocean with the Ilvermorny students to work with the British Ministry. As the clock struck nine, she heard a knock on her door. “Come in,” she called, folding her hands in front of her as she waited for Q to enter her office.

So far, working at the British Ministry wasn't terribly different than working at the MACUSA. There were a few different rules, of course, but the American Ministry had progressed to become much more like its sister in more modern and recent years. One thing that was different however, was it seemed a little more tense. Perhaps it was because of all of the recent events in Britain that had everyone more on their toes. Then again, after what happened at Ilvermorny, Q imagined that the MACUSA couldn't be much different.

This morning Quentin had a meeting with the Minister for Magic and he found he was looking forward to meeting her. He had heard stories of her exploits during the British War in the 90s and he figured she had to be good at her job if she was still alive, considering what had happened to the last few British Ministers. Q had gotten to his desk half an hour early, wanting to prepare himself for the meeting and any curveball questions he might get asked. Plus, he wanted to be precisely on time so as to make a good impression. He was always trying to impress that way. So two minutes until nine, Q left his desk and headed for the Minister's office. When he arrived he let out a deep breath and composed himself before knocking on the door. When he heard the Minister invite her in, he entered with a smile on his face. "Good morning, Minister," he said, approaching the woman and reaching his hand out for her to shake if she wished. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

Hermione’s face remained still as Quentin came into her office, smiling. “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well Mr. Graves,” she said, retuning the handshake firmly with a small smile. “I’ve been reading over your file from MACUSA and I do have to say, it is impressive.” She gestured for him to sit down and she took her seat, peering at him over the top of her glasses she now had to use for reading. She laid a hand down on his file and took a sip of water from the glass on her desk.

“I like to meet with all the new Aurors in the Ministry before they get into to much work, whether they be freshly graduated or transferred from a different country,” she explained as the reason for this meeting. She folded her hands in front of her. “You, from what I understand, were one of the top Aurors for MACUSA, and after the Ilvermorny incident you chose to transfer here. Yet so far, you have not requested a station at Hogsmeade with the British Aurors. So I wanted to ask,” Hermione leaned forward slightly, the small smile still on her lips. “Why you are here?”
