Hogwarts might not have been Ilvermorny, but Clarence was attempting to look at the school in a more positive light. The welcoming atmosphere was certainly there, and he was full from the feast that had only just finished in the Great Hall. The next few days—the next week—the next few weeks—would allow him to more properly gauge how the upcoming year would go. He still had no clear idea of how his subject would be received by the Hogwarts students; some of them, he imagined, had no context at all for what it was that he taught.
As professors went, he was certain that he didn’t quite fit the mold to which most Hogwarts students were likely accustomed. For one thing, he had never been one for being called “Professor”—he had a given name, and he preferred it to be used. Neither was his teaching methodology full of the sort of rote memorization that had often been expected of students as they gained their magical knowledge. As strict as he might have seemed, he preferred for his students to learn by doing, whenever possible. How much more of an outsider that would make him to a school full of students who didn’t know him or the community from where he came, Clarence knew that he would eventually find out.
He continued walking out of the Great Hall and back in the direction of the office he had been given, although he stopped when he heard someone speaking in a way that was clearly directed to him.

Hogwarts was seeming to be a little hard for Maxine to adjust to, not that she wasn't trying to adjust and get used to the school. It seemed nice enough and sure it was facinating to learn about. But so far she was feeling rather overwhelmed, she missed home - like probably everyone else did. But as she watched her brother - he sure seemed to be adjusting far quicker than Maxine herself was. Despite the food being rather delicious and filling, she found it hard to eat too much before she was already moving to leave the Great Hall and head back to her dorm. Hogwarts was certainly going to be a bit of an adjustment that was for sure.
"Professor?" she spoke without thinking but as she saw him stop she quickly grabbed onto it, "Um.. I mean - Clarence? Sir." Maxine spoke quickly again, taking a few steps closer to the professor. He was one of the few familiar ones that had decided for some reason or another to transfer to Hogwarts this year. While Maxine didn't know the Professor overly well, she had taken his class before and was finding it a bit of a comfort to even know a few of the Professors already - she was though longing for the familiar face of her own father who had taught at Ilvermorny as well, he hadn't yet gained a new job though.

“Professor?” came a voice. “Um… I mean—Clarence. Sir.” By the voice alone, Clarence knew that it must have been one of the American students who had transferred over from Ilvermorny, just as he had done.
Clarence turned, recognizing the girl who had addressed him as being a former student of his, Maxine Sullivan, whose father had also taught at Ilvermorny. He nodded in acknowledgment of her, wondering why she had spoken up. (If all it had been was a greeting, though, he wasn’t unappreciative of it.)
“Miss Sullivan,” he spoke, his voice slightly softer from the familiarity of the young woman. “How are you?”

Honestly Maxine was just rather relieved to see one of the Professors from Ilvermorny around, it was a relief - and as much as she had been trying to adjust and get used to things as quickly as possible. It was a slight culture shock and she was struggling more than she really wanted to fully admit to herself let alone actually saying it out loud.
She offered a slight smile, nodding back at the Professor before shrugging her shoulders, "Still adjusting, other wise I think I'm doing alright. " She decided on a truthful although simplified version of the truth, "What about you? How are you doing adjusting to Hogwarts?" she was rather curious if she was honest - was it hard for the Professors to adjust as well? Particularly with the courses some of them were teaching would be new to the Hogwarts students. It was interesting if nothing else.

Maxine said that she was still adjusting to the new school, and Clarence wasn’t surprised. They had only been there for a few hours at most; the adjustment period wouldn’t be instantaneous, which made it that much harder. This wasn’t the castle that they knew.
“What about you? How are you adjusting to Hogwarts?” she asked him then.
Clarence nodded as he answered. “Well enough, all things considered,” he told her. It would be an adjustment for everyone, the staff and students of Hogwarts included. His lesson plans were as solid as he could make him without knowing more about the students that he would be teaching for the first time, so he was prepared for the time being. That, and he and the rest of the new additions to the school’s staff had been introduced at the feast, so they weren’t complete strangers.
“The feast was nice, wasn’t it?”
He would have more time, he was certain, to get to know his new colleagues over the coming weeks, as well as learn his way around the many floors and corridors of the castle. It was, at least, a little bit easier to adjust because of the fact that the following day would be Monday. Classes would start, and life would seem a little bit closer to how it had been before everything had happened.
