Kinsey nodded when Peyton told her to not worry about teling her. She said that it was supposed to help her move on and Kinsey nodded slowly. She felt almost numb. Talking about what happened with Dustin ... it still hurt. She figured it always would, but there was still a part deep deep down that hoped he would find it in him to forgive her somehow. She didn't think it would happen though. Her sister was smiling at her and Kinsey forced a smile, but it didn't feel natural. "Thanks Peyton," she said softly. She still felt like a burden by unloading this on her sister, but knew better than to mention that again. Better to keep those feelings to herself.
The situation with Riley was ... fresher. It hurt more, though Kinsey didn't really understand why. Maybe it was because she felt like she put everything on the line for him. She chose him over Dustin. The tears trickled down her cheeks and Kinsey hurriedly wiped them away as she shook her head. "No, we're not. He said his family didn't want to see him with me anymore." Which was true, but not the whole truth so she hurried to add on, "He said it was up to me, that I could decide if we're secret friends or not ... but I don't want to cause problems for him and I'm not sure if I could stand being near him still." It sounded ridiculous, perhaps, but she didn't want Peyton to hate Riley. She still cared for him. Peyton was already mad at him though. That was easy to see just by looking at the girl's face. Kinsey gave a small smile, touched by her sister's anger on her behalf. "I know. It's just hard. He was there for me at a time when I really needed someone and it feels ... wrong to have lost him now." She shrugged before adding, "but I'll be fine. I don't need him to be happy." She'd just need to find other reasons to be happy. It wasn't impossible, just hard.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] WE'RE BRIGHTER THAN FIREFLIES LIGHTING THE SKY [attr="class","next"] Peyton felt bad for her older sister, especially after everything. Peyton still remembered the day early this year when Kinsey revealed that she was first with Riley, and now, here they were with Kinsey revealing that she could never really talk to Riley again. She frowned deeply as she explained everything, slight anger and disappointment filling it. Of course, it wasn’t exactly Riley’s fault, to say the least, since it seemed to be his parent’s way of thinking. But at the same time, Peyton didn’t understand why Riley didn’t just turn away from his parents for someone he loved. Did he not love Kinsey and that was why he let her go? She shook her head, “It wouldn’t be fair to you to be secret friends,” she breathed out truthfully, agreeing with her sister not wanting to keep contact with the guy that broke her heart. Peyton had yet to feel that heartbreak and to be honest; she didn’t want to. She nodded her head quickly, “That’s right. You’re a strong independent woman; you don’t need a guy to be happy.”

Kinsey exhaled heavily, relieved when Peyton said what she'd been thinking. She wanted to be friends with Riley, but not really secret friends. Even though the idea was her idea, she couldn't figure out how to do it in a way that wouldn't hurt her. And, as her sister explained, it wasn't quite fair to her. "Thanks Peyton," she said, a little worried that she was being a burden to her sister, but at the same time glad she had a family member she could tell the truth to. She nodded, forcing a smile when Peyton confirmed that she didn't need a guy to be happy. "Yeah, that's what I'm working on." Kinsey turned to her sister. "So ... tell me about you. How have you enjoyed coming back to school this year?" She didn't want their entire conversation to be about how depressing her life was right then.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] WE'RE BRIGHTER THAN FIREFLIES LIGHTING THE SKY [attr="class","next"] Peyton watched her sister closely, nodding her head when her sister thanked her and continued to conclude that she was working on the last thing Peyton had stated. It seemed that her sister, still worried that she had burdened her with the information and changed the conversation towards Peyton. The young blonde was still concerned about her older sister but decided to indulge her. If Peyton were in her sister’s shoes, she wouldn’t want to dwell on the darkness. She smiled lightly, though it didn’t fully reach her eyes and she shrugged her shoulders, before speaking. “I have—with all the new faces from Ilvermorny, it’s been a rather interesting first couple of days. And being Prefect, it was a nice little ride on the train. I’m excited to see how the rest of the year plays out,” she said with a smile before looking at her sister, “What about you? Looking forward to graduation?”

The look Peyton gave her let Kinsey know that her sister was aware of what she was trying to do. Peyton knew that Kinsey was trying to change the subject, but luckily she didn't try to stop that from happening. Kinsey just ... she couldn't talk about Riley and Dustin anymore. She thought about them quite a lot most days and it was draining. Actually talking to them was even harder. Peyton was the only person she told except for Toby, who was there for her meltdown the day after they came back to school. At least she wasn't going through that again. It was slightly easier to explain things this time.
She smiled back at her sister, though it probably looked forced. "They are interesting, right?" Kinsey hadn't really interacted with a lot of them, but she watched them in classes and the hallways and Great Hall. They seemed like a cheerful enough bunch, most of them with pretty calm intentions as well. It made her practicing on her gift a lot easier than she expected it to be. "I'm glad you're enjoying being Prefect. What kind of responsibilities do you have?" Kinsey asked. She'd never really paid attention, though she was fairly certain Gilderoy was a Prefect. She shrugged as Peyton asked about her. "Other than what I already told you, it's been pretty uneventful so far. I'm ... not sure how I feel about graduating though. I'm sure I'll feel better once I know what I want to do when I leave," Kinsey admitted. Honestly, she hadn't looked into it too much, but she needed to start to.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] WE'RE BRIGHTER THAN FIREFLIES LIGHTING THE SKY [attr="class","next"] “They are! And some of them are extremely nice…though from what I heard; there are some students that are absolutely horrid,” said Peyton with a wrinkle in her nose. She didn’t get any names, but she was told to avoid certain people that were pointed to during class and such. She heard they weren’t the best of people and Peyton, being a delicate flower, knew that staying away from bad influences and horrible people was the best option for her. When asked about her responsibilities, she simply shrugged her shoulders, “Mostly keeping people in line, making sure people aren’t out after curfew…we can give detention and take away points…simple stuff that power hungry people would probably use to their advantage. Some of the people picked, I question if it was the best option…but oh well, the teachers and head of houses probably know better than I do when it comes to character.” She had only met the other Prefects a few times, some she was friends with and others she had only heard about, so she wasn’t one that could judge for herself. She nodded her head, “Graduation is a scary time. I don’t graduate until next year, and I’m still a nervous wreck when I think of the future. But once you get your feet into the real world and figure out your future, you’ll do fine,” she said with a smile.

Peyton said that some of the new students were nice while others were the opposite and Kinsey chuckled a little, "You know they're probably saying the same thing about us too," she commented honestly. Most of Hogwarts' students were nice, Kinsey thought, but definitely not all of them. There were the few that did mean things just because they could and got WAY too much pleasure out of being mean to people. Then again, there were people like that everywhere. Not just at Ilvermorny and Hogwarts.
She smiled when her sister started to explain the different things she did as a Prefect. "That sounds like you're doing what you were born to do Peyton," she teased. Her sister liked order and following rules, so it really did. Still, Kinsey couldn't help but tease her a bit about it. She nodded, "Yeah, it's a little scary, but I'm looking into things. I'm sure something will stand out to me eventually. Thanks." She loved how her sister was being so encouraging.
After a minute Kinsey sighed. "So it's getting late. I guess we should probably head back to the castle, huh?" She didn't really want to; she enjoyed being able to talk to her sister like this, but she also didn't want to make peyton break they rules. They could always talk again another day.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] WE'RE BRIGHTER THAN FIREFLIES LIGHTING THE SKY [attr="class","next"] Peyton shrugged her shoulders, “True, that is very true,” she mused after her sister said that the same could be said about Hogwarts students. It was something that was honestly true; there were a lot of Hogwarts students that could be horrid people though the true core of evil had disappeared. A bit of laughter left her lips, and she shook her head at her sister’s teasing, “I was not born to be a prefect!” she said, giggling light. Sure, she liked order and following rules but didn’t mean she was born to be this prefect. She nodded her head at her sisters thank you, however, before she could answer her sister was stating that it was getting late and they should probably return to the castle. The blonde nodded once more, “Good idea,” she breathed out truthfully.

Kinsey smiled and nodded as her sister agreed with her. Peyton might not know how true it was, but one minute in the Great Hall during a meal with Kinsey's ability would let her know how true it was. There were many people who were wonderful and many people who meant harm to others in the school, from Hogwarts and Ilvermorny alike. There was nothing else that needed to be said on the subject, so Kinsey let it drop.
Peyton then started arguing that she was not meant to be a prefect and Kinsey started to laugh. "Yeah, yeah, say that all you want. This responsibility is perfect for you and you love it. That means you were born for it." She was teasing, but not entirely. "Come on, let's get you back to the castle before curfew starts and you have to punish both of us," Kinsey giggled again. She knew it wasn't entirely funny, but she thought it was. The two walked back up to the castle, Kinsey feeling relieved that she could at least open herself to one of her siblings.
