Louis decided to let the conversation drop; Jace was bound to get more questions regarding his career plan and OWLs over the year, and he didn’t need a seventh year telling him what to do. Louis had already gone through plenty of that with his hoards of cousins and two sisters. Luckily, Dominique too was taking her time in deciding on a career plan so the pressure was off him a little. It didn’t help that his eldest sister was the former Minister for Magic though. Well, he supposed with his obsession with dragons and an “in” with the Romanian dragon reserve, Louis was set for when he got out of school. “I suppose you’re right - but still, having to use magical fires ALL the time to keep warm? I don’t know if I could do it,” Louis admitted with a grin. He was a summer boy through and through having grown up near the beach at Shell Cottage. He strongly preferred weather that he could swim in, having the option to lie out on the rocky beach to dry off, the sun warming and tanning his body. Ah yes, that was Louis’ idea of heaven. “Well looks like they placed you in the right house. Gryffindor is full of the adventurous kind, as you’re likely to find out,” he added, settling himself back in the hammock, letting it swing softly from side to side. “This must be a huge change. Not just for you, but for all of you,” he commented softly. @jace

Jace laughed when Louis said he didn’t know if he could use magical fires to keep himself warm all the time. “You would if you didn’t want to freeze to death,” Jace answered, teasing the boy by misunderstanding him. He couldn’t help it. He knew there weren’t a lot of people that liked camping as much as he did. At least, most of them wouldn’t want to camp all the way up in Alaska, but really he just wanted to be outdoors. As long as he was outside, Jace was content. The cold, meh. It was a minor bother, but definitely not something he would let keep him indoors. “During the summers, my dad would take me on trips to other places in the United States, so I will admit that it is much more fun when the weather is nice and warm, but when that’s where you live and you don’t really have a choice, you get used to the cold.” Which was really what it was for Jace. They moved to Alaska and he refused to let that keep him inside.
He nodded when Louis said he was in the right house. “I sure think so.” He paused a moment before asking, “So … do Gryffindors do a lot of adventurous stuff here at school?” What kind of things did they do? He really just wanted to find a way to get in on the action, but Jace wasn’t sure exactly how he could do that. He shrugged at Louis’ mention of the change, “Yeah, but change is fun. I know some people aren’t excited about it, but there’s not really much we can do about what happened to Ilvermorny,” Jace frowned at the thought of his old school all broken down and destroyed. He knew they were going to build it again or fix it or whatever, but that didn’t make it better now and he was sad for the fact. “No point in wallowing about things you can’t change,” he added after a moment. Jace was determined to enjoy his time at Hogwarts.

Louis nodded with a smile. Jace was strong willed, which he liked about the boy. He wasn’t afraid to share how he felt about something, and was perfectly willing to accept that not everyone held the same opinion. “I need to get over to the United States sometime it seems. Different climates everywhere, whereas here in the United Kingdom it's usually cool, dampy and rainy with the occasional sunny weather,” Louis commented, cracking a smile at his own joke. Really, living in the UK was not bad at all, but it was known for its predominantly rainy climate after all. “We do, some more than others of course,” Louis confirmed, nodding at Jace’s question. “Some of us play it safe and use Quidditch as an outlet for our adventurous side. While others, like myself, like to do something more with our free time.” Louis was the Keeper for the Quidditch team, but he tried to keep a school-life-Quidditch balance as much as possible. “Last year for example, my cousin and I created a zipline from the Astronomy tower to the black lake. It was wicked!” Louis laughed fondly at the memory; he was still surprised that they not only managed to pull it off, but also they had not been caught. “I haven’t done anything that crazy this year yet, but the year is still young; who knows what grand feat could occur before graduation?” he admitted, trying to sound mysterious. “Perhaps I will need the aid of a young new apprentice to come up with some ideas…”

Jace grinned as the other guy said that he should go to the United States sometime. "It's great! In one state you can find all sorts of different climates and stuff. And there are cool landmarks all over the place. I can tell you some good ones if you ever actually do go over there," he offered. Jace loved exploring his country. He'd been all over with his dad, who loved camping just as much as Jace did. They traveled a lot together before Jace started going to school. Maybe that was part of the reason why Jace was so adventurous.
He watched the older student with interest as he began to explain the different kinds of things that Gryffindors liked to do. He nodded at the mention of Quidditch, since he'd made the team this year as the seeker. It was a bit different from Quodpot, in the fact that the seeker was a new position, but Jace was liking it so far and felt like he was doing a decent job too. "A zip-line! How long did you have it there?" Jace asked, entirely intrigued by the idea. They could do things like that. His mouth fell open a little when the guy said he hadn't done anything like that yet. "If you do ... would you mind letting me come?" he asked, his tone awe-struck. Then the guy was asking him to help come up with ideas. "I'm definitely up for that!" Jace volunteered, raising his hand into the air. He was definitely starting to like this guy, who seemed to want excitement just as much as he did.

Louis grinned; ah yes, this boy would make a fine protege of his. “Only about half a day, we had to remove it because my other friend broke his ankle so we needed to remove the evidence. Of course, he had tripped over some of the stone steps, which caused the break - not the zipline itself. But we were racing to get back to the top of the Astronomy tower to GET to the zipline, so technically it could have been to blame.” He left out that after that, his friend had refused to seek medical treatment, which had caused the break to set improperly, which had had some nasty repercussions. “I think you’ll make an excellent partner in crime,” Louis told him honestly. “Just..promise me if you’re ever seriously injured you won’t ignore it? Make up a good cover story, but if you’re hurt you need to trust the nurse.” Louis made his way out of his hammock; it was very nearly curfew, and he had to get Jace back to the Gryffindor common room. An idea sprung to mind and he turned towards the younger boy. “Alright, say we stayed here over curfew; what would your cover story be for being out so late?” he questioned, testing the very instruction he had just given out. @jace

Jace couldn't help but make a face when the older boy admitted that they only had the zipline up for half a day. "Really? Oh, that's laaaame!" He couldn't believe that they put up something like that, only to pull it down the same day. Couldn't they find some way to hide it so no one would notice. He rolled his eyes, then chuckled. "Are you planning on doing something like that again this year?" Yes, please! Jace would be so down for a zipline, it wasn't even funny.
He grinned, definitely proud when Louis said that he thought Jace would be a good partner. He'd only known the guy for maybe an hour at most and he was already saying that? Awesome! He quirked his head to the side when Louis started telling him to promise something, then Jace laughed. "Duh! Man, getting hurt is a part of having fun, but you have to get help for it." He noticed the older boy leaving his hammock, so Jace started to follow his lead, though he really didn't want to. He could have slept here. He was a little surprised when Louis turned to him quickly, telling him to come up with a cover story. Jace laughed. "That's easy." He widened his eyes, slouched a little and looked from side to side as if he were nervous. "I'm s-sorry. I didn't mean to be out. I just got lost exploring before curfew. I heard the bell, but I can't find my common room entrance. D'you know where it is? I mean, could you please point me in the right direction?" He could have pulled out fake tears if he wanted, but Jace found that he was still young enough that pretending to be nervous and upset about something worked just as well. He'd never gotten in trouble when he'd pulled out this act before.

Louis just smiled mysteriously. “Perhaps, you’ll just have to wait and see,” he said. In truth he hadn’t yet thought of a grand send off for himself before he graduated from Hogwarts at the end of the year. Hugo had been made head boy, and although his cousin loved the mischief, he didn’t want him to get in trouble on his account. Of course, he was a Prefect so the point was a bit moot. He nodded in approval as Jace got into character, coming up with a cover story easily. “Excellent,” he said, clapping the boy on the shoulder. “Keep it up and it looks like I’ll be leaving the school in good hands.” He coughed, slightly awkward at the rememberance that Jace was from Ilvermorny. “Well, here or at Ilvermorny,” he added quickly, removing his hand and gesturing for them to walk towards the portrait of the Fat Lady. Thankfully, they were not met by any of his fellow Prefects on their way back and after ushering Jace inside, Louis bid the boy goodnight, a promise of more mischief and debauchery to follow in the months to come.
