She suggested that him being able to hang out with friends whenever he wanted sounded lovely and she wished she could do things like that. He shrugged, it didn’t seem like too hard of a question for him. “You can too.” he suggested. “There are always things that you can do to make more time for yourself.” everyone thought that time was this elusive thing, but Jack understood that time was always in the hands of whoever was experiencing it. Things could almost always be dropped from their life to make more time. Often, people would do things that they didn’t love just to fill out their schedule or make themselves appear more popular or well rounded on resumes and applications. She said that there was nothing wrong with not getting involved and he agreed, but he didn’t feel the need to comment on it. Everyone who stressed getting involved was mostly trying to overcompensate, he thought. He would only get involved in things that he had a genuine interest in. “Yeah, it’s my last year.” he told her when she asked. She then asked about his friends and if they had a choice in coming here, he laughed a little bit. “Yeah, we had a choice, Some were homeschooled, some chose to go to other schools, but, Hogwarts is the closest and taught in our language so it made the most sense for us to come here. My friends came too.” he nodded, hoping that he was making sense.

Sure, she knew she could to, and she nodded and chuckled at his suggestion. She was just too stubborn for that. She knew she could handle the workload that she’d decided to take on this year. She wanted to be able to handle the workload because she really loved the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and she really loved GSA and she wanted to do her best to provide members of both groups with a good amount of activities for the year. She wanted Hufflepuff to with the house cup. She wanted members of GSA to feel comfortable and know that Hogwarts had some place for them to be themselves or to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community. She had so much she wanted to do, but it involved her being both. And doing both was mentally exhausting. ”I make time for myself. I’m doing it right now," amusement lit up her face once again, "Sacrificing studying but I don’t think I mind too much. Unless of course you do?" He did say studying wasn’t his strong suit but she teased him anyway. The American boy went on to admit that it was his last year of school and that, luckily, they did have a choice in what school they wanted to attend. Z probably would have done the same thing herself if given the chance but a choice was nice. "Ooh that’s cool. Did you all get sorted into the same house? Don’t let the house rivalries get to you lot; everyone… well most everyone from the other houses are nice." She didn’t really have a problem with anyone. She preferred to take people at face value so houses meant little to her. She didn’t know about Ilvermorny but she didn’t think their house rivalries compared to Hogwarts. She could be wrong though.

When she insisted that this right now was her making time for herself, Jack began to feel a little sorry for her. His study time was definitely not included in his free time or his time for himself. This was school time. This was work time. This wasn’t fun time. “Sleeping rather than studying is your free time?” he asked, raising his eyebrow, not showing any of the inner pity that he felt on his face. He didn’t like to show pity for others, mostly because he knew he didn’t want to receive pity himself. When she asked if they all got sorted into the same house, Jack wasn’t really sure how to answer that question. “No, the houses here and at my school aren’t really comparable. We have different houses and they don’t mean the same things that your houses here do. Everyone was resorted in your system.” he preferred the system of his school to that of Hogwarts. Hogwarts seems so simple and seemed to justify the house choices broadly based on main personality traits. He liked the Ilvermorny system better, it was a lot more personal. He and Eli, for example, were basically the same person, but here he was in Ravenclaw while Eli was in Hufflepuff, both had been in the same house at Ilvermorny.

Well, so much for the joking atmosphere she’d tried to create. She watched the American boy raise his eyebrow at her, questioning her words and, apparently her choice to sleep in her free time. She felt uncomfortable with the way he looked at her, as if he was judging her, and she grew a bit defensive. Her eyebrows pushed down on her forehead, a challenging look appearing on her face before she spoke again. ”Yeah...," she started out, elongating the word, "Who doesn’t like sleep? I can’t say I know anyone myself who doesn’t. " Was it really that weird for her to like napping when she wasn’t busy? She couldn’t be the only one out there. And she would not have him judging her for that. The conversation turned back to Ilvermorny and he mentioned the houses being different between Hogwarts and Ilvermorny, which was understandable, she guessed. It might get a little confusing having both Ilvermorny and Hogwarts houses together but she didn’t think it would have been too bad to have both. She wondered what house she would have gotten sorted into had she been an Ilvermorny student. "So what makes them so different? What was different about your house at Ilvermorny than Ravenclaws?" The Sorting Hat didn’t make mistakes, sure, but she couldn’t imagine that their sorting process was wrong either.

“Yeah fair enough.” he nodded when she asked who didn’t like sleep? Getting out of bed in the morning was nearly impossible for the Ravenclaw boy. But he still wasn’t sure that he wanted to nap on a table in the library, there seemed like a million better, more comfortable places to nap even just in this castle alone. “Sleep is the best, but I just feel like I’d rather sleep in a bed or chair than on a table. But hey, who am I to deprive you of your fun?” he smirked with a laugh. He wasn’t judging her, he just liked to tease people. She still seemed interested about Ilvermorny and the differences, including what made the houses different and he shrugged, but went on to answer her. “Well they’re not based on something as silly and variable as personality type.” he began. “They’re based on strength and they don’t really make sense, it’s hard to explain. I guess, over all, they’re based on body part. For example, the house I was in, Pukwudgie, represents the heart, of a wizard, I guess. And it’s rumored that they favor healers, though I’m not healer.” though the thought did cross into his mind that he literally brought plants to life everyday on the farm.
