@tia 09.12.2024 Defensive charm splash-back. Finn was positive that the agonizing pain in her arm was from that. She had a mistake while doing her ‘job’, if she could even call it that anymore. Being a vigilante was as good as being a common criminal that fought for the right side. The months of stalking black market dealers, of God only knows what, had come to a conclusion, and now she was rushing herself out of their back alley warehouse as fast as possible. Her attempt to break into it had gone awry, and she should have known better. Infiltration was always easier when she was undercover. Fighting out of a building was much more of her style than breaking into one was. The attempted entry was a window that was adjacent to the building next door’s roof, a vantage point she had discovered during her first reconnaissance mission back in April. The dealers had certainly seemed stupid enough not to charm all of their windows. Finn had misjudged them. Whatever was inside the warehouse was of extreme importance and value to them, and they were indeed smart enough to charm the windows. It had to have been something undetectable, complicated, and small, because her own barrier breaking spells hadn’t set it off and those inside the warehouse hadn’t become aware of her until she accidentally blew up the entire wall where the window had been. Rather, the charm on the window did that as she attempted to remove the glass silently from her position on the adjacent building’s roof. The magical shockwave zapped her wand arm and sent her catapulting across the roof like a ragdoll. And that was only the beginning.
The initial dizziness and pain radiating through her arm had Finn thinking she had broken it, but quick flexion tests of her arm said the bones were still intact. At least she thought it was, she wasn’t a healer by any degree. The shouts from the alleyway below alerted her that the dealers inside knew she was there, and that they were preparing to close in on her. Snagging her wand from where it had been dropped in the explosion, Finn made her exit from the building as loudly as possible, sending a stream of firework-like explosions down on the men that had come to fight her. The spell would only cause minor burns, nothing too dangerous. She wasn’t in the habit of killing people, only incapacitating them until she could escape. It seemed to work, and she was able to get out of her building and away before being seen. That held some prospects for another stake-out, though most likely at a new location. As long as they didn’t see her face, she was fine.
The next step was going to St. Mungo’s, because in her accelerated exit, none of the healing spells she knew seemed to work on her arm, each one only causing it to become more numb. Maybe it was broken after all. Apparating to the hospital, Finn stumbled through the front door and immediately towards the spell-damage ward. She knew where it was, having taught herself the route within the first few days of being in London. The life she was trying to lead here had the habit of ending up either at the hospital or six feet under, and she preferred the former. Even with the protests of the orderly at the front desk, Finn was adamant that it was a spell-damage related incident and said as much, only stopping when she pushed herself through the door that lead to what she could only assume was the emergency room area for the department. It was deadly quiet for being early in the morning, but it looked like someone was still on duty. The person was slightly fuzzy though, her eyes flickering and struggling to stay open as she felt the tunnel vision start to kick in, the excruciating pain taking over and causing her to fall to the floor.

THE EARLY MORNING SHIFTS AT ST MUNGO'S were some of Tia's favourite. Despite the fact that it meant she was often up before the sun, it was just so quiet. Not always, of course. Some days were wilder than others. But, more often than not, it meant that Tia could go at her own pace. It also just so happened that nobody wanted to be a shadow in the morning. She had nobody to follow, or look over her shoulder. It made her feel... in charge.
Because of how quiet the wards often were, Tia could simply go wherever she was needed. But, every day she prepared for work in the emergency department. It was her home base, almost. And completely still as Tia double knotted her white apron, smoothing out wrinkles before she lifted her steaming mug of tea with a sigh. The cups rim barely made it to her lips before the doors to the ward swung open suddenly and a figure stormed inside.
Tia jumped as the doors banged open heavily, her tea sloshing over the rim and down the side of her mug. She set it down hastily, shaking droplets of her fingers as she said, "What on earth-" Her words were halted as the intruder swayed, eyes blinking blindly before they sagged and crumpled to the ground.
Tia rushed towards them just as a few staff members came running in after. So, she'd let herself in, then. By the haggard look on their faces. Two fingers to the pulse point on her neck suggested she had indeed just passed out. "Help me get her to a bed." Tia instructed firmly, and the two staff members - a maintenance man and a receptionist - hoisted her under the arms. Tia went straight to work, grabbing a glass jar of smelling salts and her bag while they situated her.
Upon returning, Tia frowned, unscrewing the top from her smelling salts and gently wafting them under the girls nose. Her face was worryingly drawn, smudged with black smoke and flushed at the neck. "Are you with me..?" Tia said, just as the overwhelming scent was sure to hit her new patient. "I think you may have gone in to shock," She said matter-of-factly.

@tia 09.12.2024 Finn absolutely hated passing out. She viewed it as a sign of weakness in her body, that she couldn’t handle the pain. Her Auror training and intense workout routines were supposed to eliminate all of that. But here she was, jolting awake in a different place than where she had been when her vision started to blur and reality slipped away from her. The other part she disliked was not knowing how long she had been out for. For all she knew, this was days later. Maybe even weeks. There had been colleagues over the years that got zapped and didn’t wake up for years. Poor Smithers had still been in a magic coma when she got on the plane to come over to England. He had gone under in her first week as a full Auror, some five years ago. So even though she was awake again, Finn still reacted violently, her uninjured arm reaching out to pull whatever was under her nose away from it. She meant to try and sit up with the bulk of her weight on the other arm but realized she couldn’t feel where it was.
There was also a voice, though to whom it belonged, Finn was unsure. Her concern lay with the fact that her right arm was either so numb that she couldn’t feel it or that it was gone completely. The voice was saying something about going into shock, and that would make sense from what she remembered last. “Whe-Where’s my uhh…my right arm?” Finn croaked out. “I can’t feel it.” The panic was unreasonable, and she knew that, but avoiding it was impossible. Could spell splash-back make an arm lose all feeling and then fall off? Probably. She had never heard of that happening before but there was a first for everything.

TIA MADE A CONCENTRATED EFFORT TO KEEP HER cool as the patient slapped the smelling salts away from under their nose, her grip tightening as she set them aside. At least they still worked, she thought, quickly lifting a hand to gently push down on their shoulder as they struggled to sit up.
"You passed out," She explained quietly, careful not to raise her voice as the girl slowly came back to consciousness - much to Tia's relief. "You're in St. Mungo's Hospital." It was important not to overload a patient, but also to be clear in her explanations, or so Tia had been told. But, the girl seemed distressed as she tried and failed to gain traction with her right arm. The more she tried the more Tia became concerned.
"You have to stop moving," Tia said firmly, despite the fact that the girl seemed very panicked that her arm was missing. "Your arm is exactly where you left it." Tapping her fingers on the girls upper shoulder, she prompted her to lay back. "If you can lay back I can prop your bed up and you can see for yourself." Tia was still working on her bedside manner, her tone a little bland as she pulled her wand out from the pocket of her apron, tapping the tip of her wand against the metal frame of the bed so that it slowly elevated.
Scooting closer, Tia's eyes immediately scanned the scorched arm. It was very obviously damaged, her sleeve disintegrated in places, and where the fabric was still present there was an odd, waxy sheen to it. Like it had melted in to the very flesh underneath. "You've given yourself a nasty one..." Tia admitted, though her voice and face were devoid of expression bar a slight tightening in her jaw. She'd learned that people searched for answers in their healers face. But, Tia had never seen the point of being overly chipper. Sometimes that was a lie. "What on earth happened?"

@tia 09.12.2024 She had passed out. Finn had figured as much. In the last few moments of consciousness, she was unsure of what she had said or done, or if she had even made it to the place she was supposed to be. The front desk person was not going to be able to diagnose residual spell splash-back in the same manner that the healers could. Still, the reassurance that she was in the right place helped a bit, at least enough to focus most of her concern on her arm. If it was still there. The nurse that was sitting next to her kept telling her to keep still, and the arm was where it was supposed to be, even going as far as to push on Finn’s shoulder. That was great and all, but that also told her nothing. The arm could be there but maybe her hand wasn’t. Or a finger or two. Especially not her pinky finger. She really liked her pinkies for some reason.
The nurse continued to talk, explaining that Finn would be allowed to see her arm if she relaxed, that way the bed could be elevated. Nodding her head and keeping her mouth shut, she did as instructed and watched as her arm came into view. Finn sighed, but only long enough for the panic to kick in again when she still couldn’t lift it up. That seemed to be the most important thing here, and yet the nurse seemed to be ignoring it. Just because the arm was there didn’t mean everything was fine with it. “I was in the wrong part of town,” Finn stated as a low, raspy laugh came out of her. “You should see the other guys.” That would be sufficient enough. If worse came to worse, she always kept her old Auror badge that MACUSA let her keep after she left them. Looking around the room briefly to get a gauge of where she was (which was difficult while locked into place on the bed), she failed to see anyone other than the nurse. “Any idea when the doctor or spell damage unit is going to get here? I’d really like to feel my arm again.”

HER PATIENT WAS PROVING TO BE A RATHER difficult one as Tia fought her stubborn desire to seize control of the situation. Be it her ongoing insistence to see her 'missing' arm or the very tension in her body. She had asked what had happened, because it was imperative for Tia to understand the cause of the burn before she began to treat it. For some remedies had a habit of reacting rather unpleasantly with certain spells.
"Do I need to send an OWL over to Law Enforcement at the Ministry?" Tia asked bluntly, casting a shrewd and searching look over the girl's almost smug expression. How is it that one could be both dazed and self satisfied all at once? "I really need to know how you ended up with such an injury." It was protocol, after all. In the event that a crime or attack as occurred, especially.
Tia left the woman's bedside for a second as she retrieved her brown leather Gladstone bag - it had once been her father's and was well worn. Setting it on a metal tray at the bedside, Tia opened it while looking the woman over once again. "I'll give you something for the pain, but if you can't feel it then I can only assume assume that the burns are quite severe." Tia was not a spell damage mediwitch, but she was quite capable of dealing with the woman's injuries. She was, after all, trained for such incidents.
"My name is Tia, and I'm a mediwitch." She said, trying not to feel offended at the woman's blatant disregard for her care. Which was perhaps why she forgot to mention that she was still a trainee. "I am trained to deal with the immediate effects of your injuries." She said matter-of-factly, her face blank. "We'll summon the spell damage witches as soon as I'm done with you." Dipping inside of her bag, Tia set out a small crystal phial of potent pain relief and a screw-top container of bright orange burn paste. The most unsettling implement might have been the rather medieval looking tweezers, which glinted in the sharp overhead lighting.

@tia 09.12.2024 “No,” she blurted out when the nurse mentioned sending a letter to the Ministry. That was the last thing Finn wanted: Aurors breathing down her neck. She knew what that was like because she started her career as a night patrol, showing up at crime scenes at two in the morning or hospitals to assess who caused what on which patients. The trick was that the criminals never actually went to the hospital. They had their own remedies to injuries. Plus these ones probably thought she was an Auror by the amount of damage she caused and how she escaped. Standard procedures, really. When caught in a pinch while on your own, retreating and distracting the perps to do so was the first step. The second was to seek immediate medical attention, which she had also done. And finally, revealing what she was doing to get into that state was not really that important for the medical staff. As long as she gave them an idea of what could have caused it, they would be able to figure it out without much more. Even in her beat up state, she could still go over the basics in her head and properly execute them. “I won’t be pressing charges so it’s not worth it to bring them out here.”
The nurse repeated her question about what happened, and Finn took a deep breath before explaining all of it, “I think I was getting jumped by a couple of guys?” she began, trying to be as convincing as possible in her lie as she could, the throbbing pain in her arm preventing her from getting it all out at once. “And one of them put up a defensive charm when I started fighting back, and whatever spell I used didn’t go well with what they had cast.” That part was basically true, though breaking and entering was vastly different from an attempted mugging. “Felt like my whole arm was electrocuted and then the splash back from the spells sent me flying. Thankfully that gave me enough time and space to escape to here…” Finn trailed off, looking back at the nurse to see if that had been good enough for her. If her bluff was called, all she had to do was say her memory was hazy and that she may have hit her head when passing out. The last ditch effort was presenting her MACUSA Auror ID. There was a reason she still kept it with her at all times.
Finn stared up at the nurse, somewhat surprised, when she said that she was a mediwitch. But she looked so young! That was why she had assumed the girl was a nurse, or at least an aide of some sort. Mediwitches took years to complete their training, so either this girl was a savant or she was graced with youth. Finn kept her mouth shut as Tia, that was her name, went over the process of how things were going to work moving forward. Tia started pulling vials and medical supplies out of her bag, Finn’s head struggling to lift up from her current position in the bed so that she could see what was going on. One of the jars had a bright orange color to it. “Is that burn paste?” she asked. “It’s not going to take my tattoos off when it repairs the skin, is it?” She had heard of things like that happening before. The ones on her arms had been from no-maj shops, so anything was possible with a skin repairing solution. Having to get them touched up would be a pain in the ass.

WHILE TIA THOUGHT HER FIRM TONE WOULD inspire a bit of honesty from her patient, she was sorely mistaken. Her composure was as severe as her burns and Tia frowned disapprovingly. 'No', wouldn't stop Tia if she felt compelled to do so. There was an air of suspicion about the girl. No matter that she was burned horribly, she seemed more intent on keeping her cool than simply getting better. Tia felt a stab of instant dislike, thought she curbed it professionally.
Eventually, Tia gained something of an answer from the young woman. Standing by her bedside, she scanned her face expectantly. It was oddly blank, as if reciting a story and not a terrible and traumatic injury. "Jumped?" She asked in concern, her nose wrinkling delicately. "For what?" It could have been a random act, but there was something about the way that she said it. Like it was a practised excuse. Unfortunately, it was completely plausible and not unlike anything she'd heard before.
"That's a pretty nasty injury for a throwback," Tia commented casually, looking down at her clipboard as she jotted a few notes down in an effort to look busy. "They must have really had it out for you." And then she turned with a frown, as if to maybe catch the other girl with a damning expression. She was not successful, the girl was either too good or telling the truth. Tia was inclined to believe the former, but it wasn't her business so she didn't push much harder.
Retrieving her bag, Tia had turned and had carefully laid out her supplies when the girl spoke up again. Tia frowned instinctively, but nodded once. "It's... it's my own recipe." She said, a hint of hesitant pride in her tone. She was very proud of her creation, but sometimes patients questioned its effectiveness because it was homemade. She, personally, thought it was better than the mass produced kind you could buy on the shelves. But, she was obliged to use the other sort of the patient so requested. That had been the rules when she'd asked to use it - tested and approved - on patients.
"Tattoos?" Tia asked dumbly, unscrewing the cap and releasing its odious, chemical scent in to the air. "Um, I shouldn't think so." But, then she looked down at the raw skin on her arm, the faintest display of black here and there but some places too raw to decipher what exactly was there. "Though... it really depends," She said honestly. "On how deep the burn has gone down." She gently lifted her wrist, turning it here and there to inspect it. "At best, I do believe there'll be some fading." It was a very nasty burn, she turned and plucked the phial of pain relief, popping the rubber stopper and gently lifting it to the girl's lips.
"Best take this while it's on offer." Tia said simply, her lips pressed in to a thin and severe line. "There's some clothe stuck to the wound," She explained as she took the phial back and corked it once again. "I'll have to clear it before I apply the paste." Whether the woman felt it or not, Tia refused to believe she could deny the awful sensation of peeling melted fabric from an open wound. "Don't worry, I've done this before." She said in an attempt to reassure her, sitting pertly on a squeaky rolling stool and lifting a shiny pair of tweezers. She felt a fizzle of excitement in her chest, the kind that reminded her of the odd ways in which she loved her job.
"So," Tia began, bracing the girl's wrist in one hand and wielding the tweezers with the other, her concentration was fully consumed by the bubbling skin of the patients arm. But, she'd been encouraged time and time again to improve her bedside manner. Patients didn't always enjoy silence when it came to such tense moments, no matter if it was Tia's ultimate preference. "What is it that you do?" She asked, because it was the first thing to sprung to mind. "And I didn't catch your name?" Tia remembered that she'd have to ask for ID at some point, for her records.

@tia 09.12.2024 If her parents were dead and buried, they probably would have been rolling in their graves right about now. Finn was stacking up her lies, one after the other, effortlessly, and it was starting to scare even her. When had she gotten so good at that? The last few years with MACUSA had her undercover, and she was sure that it had happened at some point during that because it pre-dated her move to London. The fact that she had been doing something potentially illegal (and even caused structural damage to several buildings in Knockturn Alley with a few of her spells) had her jumping over her moral standards every time she opened her mouth to speak. In her defense, the nurse was asking too many questions, and the sorts that Finn disliked the most. The girl was supposed to heal the wounds, and Finn was there to provide how said injuries came to be. She had already given that information: it was residual spell splash back, her spell being more of the destructive nature than her supposed story allowed it to be, but if the nurse needed to know, she would tell her…eventually. The minor details of whether or not she had been jumped weren’t imperative to fixing a burn though. “It’s not like I have anything important on me, so you can believe whatever you want,” Finn offered her. Whatever horrible pseudo-story the girl came up with in her head would suffice.
Tia went on to explain that she could fix the burns with her own concoction, a paste specifically made for burns. Finn didn’t really care what she used, as long as the skin was fully healed. If there ended up being a fade to some of her tattoos, she was sure she could find a shop to touch it up. But the warning was out there regardless. She needed it healed up as much as possible. Nodding her head, Finn accepted the painkiller medicine that Tia held up to her lips, dropping her head into her pillow once she swallowed it. Watching the girl pick pieces of her shirt out of the burned skin wasn’t Finn’s idea of a good time. She was better off getting lost in the painkiller and letting the professional do all the work, even if she wasn’t the best when it came to bedside manners. Telling someone to not worry never inspired much confidence.
Finn assumed that the brief silence meant that her arm was being worked on and that Tia was concentrating one it one-hundred percent. She couldn’t feel anything still, but it sounded like it was going to be one step at a time. First came removing and healing the burned skin, and then came the magical damage on the nerves in her arm. Then Tia had to ask the questions Finn hated the most when she was trying to be sneaky. She thought about ignoring them at first, playing it off like she was loopy from the medicine and incapable of responding. But her various ID cards were all in her pocket, and if Tia decided to go snooping, she would certainly find the MACUSA Auror one. “Finn,” she answered, lifting her head off of the pillow just enough so that she could look the younger girl in the eyes as she said it. “I have an ID in my left pocket if you need it for paperwork.”

THE PATIENT SNAPPED AT HER AND TIA FELT HER expression sour as she sat back slightly. She hadn't been asking for fun, Tia was under the impression that she had to ask such questions. It was important that she knew as much as possible in case she did something wrong. Otherwise, the infirmary - and Tia - could be held accountable for anything that happened. "I'm just doing my job." She replied firmly, lowering her head with a slight shake.
Dipping her head, Tia tried her best to focus instead of getting worked up about uncooperative patients. She'd had worse, she told herself, but usually they were mad with sickness or Tia expected it. She hadn't this time around, and alarm bells were ringing. With the smell of the paste nipping her nostrils, she went to work slowly peeling off the pieces of fabric stuck to it. It wasn't glamorous work, but Tia found the process of cleaning it oddly calming, proud of herself as it went from a mess of frayed and saturated fabric to a clean, but blistered patch of skin.
Unable to lift her head, Tia wondered if her question was going to be ignored. It was done in a last ditch effort to find out something that would give her some clarity. If she didn't answer, that would be it, Tia wouldn't stress the subject any longer. But, surprisingly, she did answer. Though, Tia thought she sounded as reluctant as ever. Setting the tweezers down momentarily, Tia looked up and pursed her lips slightly.
"No, that's fine." Tia muttered, unwilling to go rifling around in someone's pockets, even if she was given permission. "I'm not in a rush for it." Picking the tweezers back up, Tia dropped her chin and finished removing the fabric in silence. She didn't ask any more invasive questions and felt better in the silence now that the patient had a name. Less like she was doing something undercover.
Lastly, Tia cleaned the wound with a damp clothe - removing any stray pieces of fabric before reaching for the burn paste. "My recipe is a little stronger than your average burn paste," Tia explained, pulling on a fresh pair of gloves so that she could scoop out some of it and smear it across the affected area. "It'll probably heal fully in about 48 hours, max." Tia estimated proudly, given that the burn was fairly severe and widespread. "I'll give you some to take home and use until then." She had plenty of spare jars at home, and though it smelled a little bit worse than your typical recipe, she was very proud of it.
Pulling the sticky glove off when she was done, Tia sat back and shook out an errant strand of hair from her face. "There," She said, but turned in her chair to rifle around for a roll of bandages. "I'm just going to cover it so it can really soak in." She still needed that ID, but she wasn't going to ask for it again. Not right away. Plus, a part of her wanted to know if Finn would try and leave without showing her it. Like a test of sorts. She wrapped the girl's arm expertly, finishing it with a little knot by her wrist.

@tia 09.12.2024 Finn bit down on her tongue to keep it from lashing out at the nurse. It didn’t like sitting idly by while getting the third degree, pun intended, from a girl that had no idea what she was really asking. Instead, she sucked in a deep breath and exhaled, hoping to let the annoyance out with it. She was more upset with getting herself injured than she was at the girl for doing her job, but that still didn’t mean Tia could play twenty questions with her just because she was doing the healing. Frustration combined with painkillers, disorientation, and a nosey nurse weren’t the best combination for the New Yorker. “Right, sorry doc,” Finn muttered sarcastically, shaking her head more at herself for being rude again, than at Tia for doing her job. “Sorry…” The second one coming out more apologetic than the first.
Getting out her ID was brushed off as Tia continued plucking pieces of cloth out of the wound on Finn’s arm, and this time she actually watched the nurse do it. Seeing it and not feeling it was freaky, and Finn was no stranger to hospitals and odd injuries while on the job. Having the arm numbed removed any protests Finn would normally have about it, and it definitely kept her from squirming each time the tweezers were plunged into her wound to fish out fabric. She watched, unblinking, as Tia patted the arm down with a cloth and then started to explain how effective the burn paste was going to be. Nodding her head to show that she understood, the paste was gooped onto her arm and spread across the entirety of the burn. Tia seemed satisfied after a few moments and followed it up with a bandage, covering her whole forearm and ending at her wrist. Finn imagined it was tightly wrapped, based on the knot Tia made there, but she still couldn’t feel it.
“Do I have to stay until the painkillers wear off?” she asked, staring at her arm longingly. She was lucky the whole thing didn’t get ripped off with the splash back. Deciding that the answer was going to be yes before even hearing it, Finn struggle to shove her hand into her pocket, fingers wiggling around to find her ID that she usually kept there. The piece of plastic met her finger tips after a few seconds, and she pulled it out, glad to see that it was her normal card and not her expired MACUSA Auror one. “Here,” she said, holding it out for Tia.

TIA ROLLED HER EYES WITH HER HEAD DIPPED low, hoping the patient couldn't see. The last thing she needed was a complaint to be issued for a chilly bedside manner. She was still working on that. Technically, Tia couldn't be any better at her job, she thought. She worked hard, was eager to learn, and always looked to improve herself. But, personally, she could come across a little cold. She'd never quite mastered the art of socialising. But, at the very least, she managed to hold her tongue. She prided herself on that. Credit where credit was due.
At the very least, a chilly silence fell between them as Tia focused on her the job at hand. This was always the fun part for her. The fiddly task of removing every last shred of frayed and melted fabric. Clearing the remaining wound as she thought about every kind of spell which might inflict such blistering damage. She came away with a few. She'd explained before, but in the vaguest of terms. Tia had always been a lover of specifics. But refused to ask again, knowing the stony wall she would likely meet. It was a shame as well, she wasn't just curious as a healer, but a learner too.
"Yes, of course." Tia said before she'd even finished. "I could lose my job if I let you stumble out of here full of that stuff." She jerked her chin to the empty phial she'd given her to consume, but was momentarily shocked as a little plastic card was held out towards her. "Oh..." She said, her eyes flickering up to meet hers, as if expecting some kind of trick. She plucked it from her hands and held it by the corners, as if it were dirty or too hot to grip.
"Ms... Nottingham." Tia muttered, thinking that her name wasn't at all what she expected. After looking at it for a few moments she handed it back, recalling the information. "I half expected an auror ID card, if I'm honest." She mused, half-standing as she gathered up her things. There was no need for her to linger much longer, her job done. "I usually see these types of wounds on field workers and not to mention your attitude..." Tia tilted her head, her brash honesty something she had yet to reign in. "Well, it's usually the big-wigs that throw that around."
Shrugging her shoulders, she left the ID on the side of the bed, her good side so that she could reach it easily. "I'll send someone up from Spell Damage to discuss after care." Tia said, because she'd asked for that type of healer almost as soon as she was aware enough to speak at all. "Try not to hurt yourself in the meantime." Her smile was stiff, but deliberate as she pulled her bag from the tray and let it hand by her side. "You have a good day now, Finn." Don't let anyone say she didn't at least try to be personable. Though her eyes were a little too shrew, her smile a little too stiff.

@tia 09.12.2024 Letting the healer work on her arm in silence, Finn opted to look away during the final stages of the cleanup. It was easier that way. Being squeamish wasn’t normal for her at all, but the fact that her arm was being worked on and she couldn’t feel it was still getting to her. In all of the missions and dangerous encounters she had been in over the years, this was by the far worst injury when it came to her mental state. The fact that she was in a hospital she wasn’t used to probably didn’t help either, her normal treatment back home in New York being a lot more comfortable. The doctors there usually knew what she was getting up to anyways, always having a general idea of what the aurors may come back sporting, whether it be missing limbs or a bad case of stunning sickness. Tia was different though – a sort of judgmental curiosity, probably because Finn had been throwing up walls and being sketchy from the start. But what else was she supposed to do? The doctor’s job was to heal her, not have a chat like they were old friends. Finn lifted her eyebrows curiously as Tia examined her ID. Was her last name really that strange? Usually she got the statement ‘oh, like the Sheriff of Nottingham’ or ‘Robin Hood!’, or something somewhere in between the two of those. Or better yet, how her first name was simply Finn. Thankfully her normal ID didn’t indicate that she was a veteran of the force, because then there would definitely be more questions thrown her way. A laugh escaped from her when Tia started comparing the injuries to that of an Auror’s. She wasn’t too far off from it. “No, not an Auror. Just like my privacy is all,” Finn answered, technically not lying. She was not an auror anymore and she did like her privacy. The little details weren’t all that important anyways. Seemingly finished with her job, Tia started collecting her things from around the room. Apparently Finn was to stay until she talked to someone from Spell Damage, which made sense. They would know a lot more about what had happened anyways. “Not a lot I can do with one hand, doc,” she joked as Tia started to leave the room. “But I’ll try my best.”[The End]
