Irina couldn’t believe it; one of her oldest and dearest friends, her roommate of seven years, Anna Weasley, was MARRIED. Oh, what a beautiful celebration it had been. The vows, the food, the dancing, the overall feeling of love and happiness that had overcome the Krum girl as she witnessed the joining of two people who were mad for each other. Irina had barely gotten to chat with Anna during the reception, but that was completely understandable. With the size of Anna’s family, it was surprising that she had been able to give her friend a bear hug and a kiss on the cheek in congratulations. Now however, it was several weeks later, September changing to October in the blink of an eye. The last of the summer heat had faded and autumn winds had begun to change the color of the leaves from green to rich reds, oranges and golds. Irina was waiting for her friend in a tiny cafe in the middle of the Kensington Gardens. She had snagged a window seat to watch the passersbys as they strolled by the large pond, bundled in woolen sweaters and rich leather boots against the cool breeze. After what seemed like an eternity, the bell into the cafe tinkled and Irina looked up to see her friend, and grinned. “Madame Gauthier, I presume,” she called, using Anna’s married name as she giggled. @annelise

Anna rushed through the streets, heading to the cafe where Irina arranged for them to meet. In true Anna fasion, she was late. It was a fact she despised, but at the same time she couldn't dispute it. Almost without fail, she was late to everything. At least today it wasn't her fault. She got out late from Auror training. It wasn't her fault if her superiors didn't let them go on time, right? Still, she felt guilty for keeping her friend waiting. Then again, maybe Irina planned for that. When she reached the corner, Anna slowed down and took a few deep breaths. She didn't want to make it so obvious that she rushed here. Stepping into the cafe, Irina caught her eye immediately as she called to her. Anna laughed as she made her way over to her friend. "I'm still not used to that," she admitted, "but I love the way it sounds." She scooted into the booth beside Irina, wrapping her arms around her friend to give her a huge hug. "How are you Irina? I've missed you!" It was strange not seeing the girl every day, after spending so much time together over the last seven years. She pulled back and grinned, happy to be here with her friend. Irina beamed as Anna admitted she was not used to being called Madame Gauthier yet. It made sense; they were still newlyweds and likely in the honeymoon period of their marriage. It would take some time as well to not use the name Weasley when referring to herself. The family was a long line of prominent, pureblooded witches and wizards who always found on the side of good in the Wizarding Wars. Plus, she had so many cousins with the same last name, that having a different one would be odd for the first few family gatherings post-wedding. “You have your whole life to get used to being French by marriage,” she said teasingly, giving the redhead an extra squeeze before pulling back. “I don’t think I got to tell you by the way, but you looked radiant. I’m glad you went with the gown you chose; it really was the perfect fit,” she added, remembering just how happy Anna had been when she had first tried on the gown a few months before the ceremony. Irina had been honored to be of assistance in something so important to her friend, and was glad it had been such a smooth day. “I’m well thank you! I got back from my first Cursebreaking case in Tibet three days ago,” Irina told her, eager to share her experience in the large region of China. “It was...amazing. I am not sure what I was expecting, but the geography was simply breathtaking! And the statue of the young Buddha, of course I don’t practise Buddhism but I could understand why so many make the pilgrimage to see it in person.” Their mission had been in an old set of caves set into the mountainside not too far from where the statue was housed, and once the curses had been lifted, the Cursebreakers managed a quick detour to do some sight-seeing before reporting back to Gringotts. “I hope to go back for a non-business purpose some time in the future; I feel as though I only got a taste of what this massive country has to offer.” From simply reading The Ballad of Hua-Mulan, Irina knew she had only scraped the surface of the treasures and legends China had to offer. “What about you? How is Auror training going?” she asked, knowing the trainings Anna was going through probably were similar physically to her own. @annelise

Anna smiled at Irina when the hug ended and she said she had her whole life to get used to the name. "Yeah, I do. I just ... never thought I'd be married so young. I'm glad though." She blushed as Irina said she was radiant. "Thanks. And thank you for helping me choose the dress! I probably wouldn't have been able to find something that good without you." She meant it too. Anna was not one for shopping, but Irina made it a better experience, which she definitely appreciated. Her smile turned into a grin as Irina started talking about her job. "That sounds awesome!" Anna enthused. Irina was obviously loving her job, which was a great thing. Honestly ... the same could not be said of Anna, but she already knew that would happen when she hadn't abandoned Auror training first thing. "Well if you go back for non-business things, you should let me know. I might want to join you," Anna giggled, liking the idea of exploring Tibet with her friend. She didn't know if Oscar would want to join them or not, but it sounded like a lot of fun and definitely like something Anna would be interested in. She shrugged at her friend's question. "Eh, training is fine. I'm learning a lot of the things I thought I would. The defensive magic is amazing ... I just ... I'm not really sure if I want to be an Auror anymore ..." Anna hadn't told any of her friends this and was curious to see Irina's reactions. She'd wanted to be an Auror for as long as she could remember, wanting to follow in her Uncle Harry's footprints, but now ... after the Triwizard Tournament and losing her Uncle, well ... Anna wasn't sure what she wanted. Irina Rose Krum

Irina, still smiling, waved away Anna’s comment. “Oh psh, you would have found the perfect dress regardless of whether or not I was there!” she exclaimed, then giggled. “Though I am glad I was.” It had been rather magical to see Anna float down the aisle in her perfect wedding dress towards the love of her life, ready to take the vows that would bind them together forever. “And don’t let anyone tell you that you were too young to get married; when you know, you know. Why wait if you don’t want to?” Irina reasoned, shaking her head a little. She didn’t understand the way people insisted relationships had to follow a certain timeline; if she had followed that with Daniel it would have probably driven them both insane. No, best to let things play out naturally - that’s what made them stronger in the end. “I definitely would love to go back to Tibet, and for you to join me,” Irina agreed eagerly. It had been such a culture shock to her upon her arrival, but she soon thrived in immersing herself in the different customs and traditions of local Tibetans. Irina frowned slightly however at Anna’s half hearted response to her own training. That certainly didn’t sound like the same friend who had been certain of wanting to be an Auror for as long as Irina could remember. “Really?” she asked, not bothering to hide her surprise. It wasn’t like she could hide it anyway; her facial expressions made her easily readable . “What made you come to that conclusion?” she asked curiously, taking a sip of her drink, eyes never leaving Anna’s. This wasn’t a light decision Anna would be making, and Irina wanted to be sure she understood it fully before voicing any opinion on the matter. @annelise

Anna lifted a skeptical eyebrow as Irina contradicted her. "Are you sure of that? I might have gotten tired of shopping before I went to that store? Then where would I have been?" Really, she was just being silly now, dealing in hypothetical situations, but it was nice to be able to. Most of the time nowadays she was in auror training, where she really couldn't goof off. The atmosphere there was serious, as it should be. Anna nodded as Irina told her to not listen to anyone that told her she was too young to get married. Honestly, she didn't care what those people thought. They didn't know all the things she and Oscar went through during the last year, so how could they know whether or not the couple was ready to be married? Sadly, her parents (in particular, her father) were among the people that didn't understand it. "Thanks Irina, I'll do that." she answered simply, even though she already was. Irina liked her idea! Anna grinned back at her. "Great! Then you'll have to keep me updated on stuff, like when you make a decision about when to go so I can prepare too." The idea of taking a trip with such a good friend really appealed to Anna right now. Honestly, getting out of London and having fun really appealed to her. She just wanted a break from the seriousness that surrounded her constantly, at work and on the streets. At least she could relax when she was with Oscar. Of course Irina was curious when Anna said she wasn't sure if she wanted to be an auror. She knew Anna well enough that the news was probably quite a surprise. Anna shrugged a little, "I don't think I want that kind of stress in my life. I mean, the Triwizard Tournament made me see things differently. Yes, I am capable and I feel like I would be a good auror, but the tension and the stress don't really appeal to me." She sighed as another reason came to mind. "Oscar doesn't like the idea either. Not that I'm letting him choose for me, but he's lost so much of his family, and one of them was an auror too. I don't want to make him worry either. And then with Uncle Harry disappearing ..." Anna trailed off, heart sinking as her thoughts turned to her missing Uncle. "I don't know what to do anymore, but I do know that that's not it." There. She came out and said it straight. Being an auror wasn't what she wanted anymore, for a myriad of reasons. She hoped the ones she gave Irina made sense. Irina Rose Krum

Irina rolled her eyes but giggled good naturedly. It was true that Anna wasn’t exactly a shopaholic, but that was one of the many things she liked about her friend. Anna was the first of any one she knew of at her age to get married, so she had felt swept up by it all, and had been more than happy to help. “You would have found a dress eventually. It just wouldn’t have been as perfect as the one you wore,” she commented breezily with a wave of her hand before dissolving into another fit of giggles. “I’ll definitely keep you posted - we can even do a long girls weekend somewhere that isn’t Tibet,” Irina suggested. She was getting the feeling that Anna could do with a girls weekend somewhere new, she just wasn’t sure who her friend would want to bring with her. Irina straightened slightly as Anna launched into her explanation. She agreed that Anna would make a good Auror, better than good really, a damn excellent one. But to be truly good at something, the passion and drive needed to be there. The way her friend was describing it, that simply was no longer within her when it came to her Auror training. “If you’re certain, then you should probably tell your trainers sooner rather than later. It’ll be like ripping a band-aid off and besides, you don’t want to be doing something your heart isn’t in for a moment longer than you need to.” In that statement, Irina hoped that Anna understood that she’d stand by her whatever decision she made. “Do you think you’ll want to go into the Ministry elsewhere? Or something else entirely?” she asked, then smirked. “You know, I hear Cursebreakers are pretty amazing.”@annelise

Anna smiled and nodded when Irina said she would have found something, it just wouldn't have been as perfect. That was something she could agree with. Having Irina accompany her to choose a dress was the perfect decision and she had absolutely no regrets about that. Her eyes lit up as her friend mentioned a long girl's weekend. "Yes please! A girl's weekend sounds like so much fun!" Of course, she'd need to talk with Oscar about it beforehand, but she was sure he'd be all right with it. Besides, spending a weekend with her friends was something that would make Anna immensely happy. "Just let me know and I'll figure something out," she promised, thrilled just at the idea of spending time with Irina and her other friends like that. Irina's advice wasn't really a surprise to Anna. She'd thought over her decision plenty of times and the first step was that she needed to tell people. Namely, her superiors. The thing was, she didn't want to quit until she had something else to do. Anna wasn't the type of girl who could sit around and wait to find something to do. She needed to have things ready. So until she got things in the works she wanted to attend auror training. Maybe she should tell her leaders what she was planning though, so it wouldn't come as a big surprise. She still wasn't sure though. "Yeah ... but I want to figure something out before I quit," Anna admitted. She hadn't meant to tell her friend, but it was the only explanation she had for not having quit already. "I was thinking maybe something in the ministry. I kind of ... want to go into charms. I'd like to study something that can help me maybe get a job at Hogwarts teaching Charms ..." Anna trailed off, wondering if her friend would think that was stupid. Then she smiled, "How many charms do you use as a Cursebreaker?" Irina Rose Krum

Irina clapped her hands together excitedly. “Amazing! It’ll have to be after I get back from my Eurotrip with Dan, so maybe November. Would you want to do something warm or in the mountains?”she jabbered on, her brain already thinking of some fun ideas to do a girls weekend away. “Who would you want to come? Lucy, I’m assuming, and Jamie, but who else?” she asked, curious if she would invite any of their other former roommates. Andromeda she had always gotten on with, but Cecelia...well, the two had had their differences, but Irina hoped they could both let bygones be bygones. “I think we can have fun with this,” she added, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. She was becoming quite a globetrotter, between her job, her impending vacation with her boyfriend, and now this, she’d get plenty of miles on her Apparition license. Irina nodded at Anna’s comment; she completely understood wanting to feel like she had something secured in place before officially quitting the Auror training. “Is there any one mentor or trainer that you trust? Someone to talk things through before quitting?” she asked. She had no idea who was in the Auror program anymore, not now that Harry Potter had vanished. Her brother was a professional Quidditch player, and her parents had been too - there wasn’t much Ministry involvement in the Krum family. Irina’s eyes widened slightly with surprise at Anna’s next suggestion. “I think you’d make a great professor!” she exclaimed, smiling. “Though I’m pretty sure there’s an age requirement; mainly, has to be a few years out of school,” she added with a wry chuckle. “And we Cursebreakers use a fair few charms, usually for warding or self-protection if we’re unsure of what we’re up against,” she told her proudly. Irina had actually only used one self-protection charm in Tibet, but she’d heard stories from the more seasoned Cursebreakers; one day she’d be that person telling those stories. “I could put in a good word for you if it’s an avenue you want to pursue,” she suggested, wiggling her eyebrows before giggling again. It would be nice to have someone her own age to work with; Anna was serious enough to not fool around on the job, but one of Irina’s closest friends, which would make work even more enjoyable than it already was. @annelise

Irina was obviously excited about this idea, which was a good thing because Anna was too. Still, her friends words took her by surprise. "Wait a second. You and Dan are doing what? And why haven't I heard of this before now?" Anna knew her tone was demanding, but she didn't really care. She and Irina were close enough friends that she really didn't need to hide her thoughts or emotions from the other girl. Then her friend's question registered and Anna shrugged. "I'm really good with whatever. Warm is nice, especially in the winter, but I just want some adventure. And I'm good with whoever. Jamie and Lucy are good, Andy as well. We could also invite Cecelia if you want, but if you don't that's alright. Just getting most of us together would be fun, don't you think?" Anna couldn't keep the excited smile from covering her face. Just the idea of doing something with all her friends was getting her so excited. Anna shrugged, "I sent an owl to my aunt the other day asking if maybe we could talk." Aunt Hermione, that was. Anna wasn't sure if going to the Minister of Magic for advice on this was quite the best way of going about it, but she figured that maybe her aunt would understand where maybe not everyone else would. She smiled when Irina told her she'd be a good teacher. "I knooooow. That's the problem. I need to figure out what to do that will help me qualify for a teaching position once I'm old enough," she admitted to the brunette. She chuckled as Irina started talking up Cursebreakers and then shrugged, "If it's what will qualify me most to be a Professor, I'd definitely consider it." Anna wasn't quite sure how Oscar would react to that suggestion, but he liked history, and wouldn't there be quite a lot to learn while Cursebreaking? She'd have to talk to him about that later. Anna nodded, "I will definitely let you know if I lean that way. Right now ... I'm just trying to figure out my options and what will help me get to what I really want." That was the problem with the whole thing. Anna had to make a decision, which wasn't always her forte. "I would like working with you. It'd be almost like old times, right?" She chuckled, mostly because she knew it wasn't the same. Irina Rose Krum

Irina’s cheeks tinged pink as Anna demanded more information about her and Dan’s trip. “Well, we haven’t ever had a proper holiday together, just the two of us,” she began, folding her hands in her lap. She elaborated on how of course Dan had joined them on some family holidays with his own family, their parents being very close and all, then between the two of them being in school and then breaking up, then getting back together the whirlwind feeling gave them the idea of just getting away from it all, soaking in the nature and scenic views of the countries they had picked out, just the two of them. “Both of us prefer the outdoors and the….almost solitude of the woods, but we still have the ability to check out local cafes and restaurants when we get sick of each other,” Irina commented teasingly, smiling widely. “Besides, it’s my dream to come across a beautiful little Tuscan town and eat some amazing pesto pasta,” she added with a nonchalant little shrug. “We’ll be gone for a little over a month, thankfully Gringotts was accommodating with my schedule,” she finished. Irina was still in a small state of disbelief that her job had given her the green light to go ahead with her travels; of course, she wasn’t getting paid during this time, but thankfully her grandparents had gifted her a nice sum of Galleons for her graduation, so she didn’t feel like she had to panic about money. Lilith had also hinted that her training would increase in difficulty substantially upon her return, so Irina was feeling this was the calm before the storm that she would happily take. “Well remember that History of Magic professor we had in our sixth year? She was a former Cursebreaker, so it’s not unheard of!” Irina enthused, trying her best to sell the job to her close friend. “I think a lot of jobs out there technically ‘qualify’ you as a professor in the long run, but obviously some of them more than others. Have you considered writing to McGonagall and getting her feedback on the matter?” she asked, curious if she had thought of touching base with the matriarch of Hogwarts, who would likely be the one to hire her eventually. “I think you should probably leave that bit out of your Cursebreaking application though - they like wouldn’t like seeing one that reads ‘I’m looking for a temporary gig until I’m old enough to be a professor’,” Irina added dryly, but smiled. “It would be like old times, but just not living in the same quarters and actually being allowed to do magic outside of classes.” Not that Irina had technically always followed that particular rule, but she had never been caught - what the professors didn’t know couldn’t hurt them. @annelise

Anna smiled as she heard her friend talking about her plans with Dan. Honestly, it sounded amazing and it was definitely something that Irina and Dan both deserved. They were fabulous and she was glad they were back together. She knew that Irina was happier with Dan and she liked that. She liked seeing her friend happy. "That sounds amazing! I'm so excited for the two of you." Anna couldn't help but get excited when she saw how happy her friend was. "You have to let me know more about it when you get back. I can't wait to hear about it!" Anna's eyes widened when Irina talked about their teacher. "Really? I didn't know that!" Anna started to warm up to the idea, but felt like she wasn't fully ready to make the decision yet. "I hadn't thought about writing her. That's a really good idea though." Anna gave a mischievous grin, "You're full of great ideas Irina. When did this happen?" She couldn't help but tease her friend. She laughed when Irina mentioned to leave her ultimate career goals off of an application to the cursebreakers. She smiled, "It would be fun. I think ... I'm seriously going to consider that Irina. I'll let you know what I think ultimately. Thanks for all the suggestions." Anna had a lot to think about. She was a little nervous that she wouldn't be able to make her mind up, but at least she had options now. Irina Rose Krum

Irina pretended to be offended by Anna’s teasing, tossing her long black hair behind her shoulder. “I never, Anna! I have always been full of brilliant ideas!” she declared, hoisting her chin high in the air and sniffing loudly. “McGonagall is one of the smartest women out there, along with your Aunt Hermione. At least, my dad seems to think so,” she commented with a laugh. Viktor Krum and Hermione Granger had, apparently, had something when he was competing at Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament, but alas, it had never come to fruition. Of course, if it had, Irina would never have been born, and who would be here to help Anna with her troubles? Irina reached out and patted her friends hand. “Take your time, it’s not like there’s a cutoff date for Cursebreaker applications. Or any jobs really,” she reasoned with a smile. She took her hand back and clapped both of hers together. “Now, I think I spied some adorable looking pastries in the glass cabinets. Let’s go and get one,” she declared. Without waiting for an answer, Irina got up and made her way over to the cabinet of sweets. After a few moments of intense internal debate, selected the angel food cupcake with powder blue whipped frosting on top. She brought it back to their little table with a fresh mug of hot cocoa, and waited for Anna to rejoin her. @annelise

Anna couldn't help but laugh at her friend's indignation. That was partly why she was teasing her like that, but it was also just for the fun of it. "Yes, yes I know," Anna agreed, still laughing. "Yeah, I asked aunt Hermione a while ago asking her if we could meet. I'm hoping that maybe we can talk one of these days. I'm sure she'll let me know what she thinks." Anna chuckled. Her aunts and uncles always let her know what they thought. Always. But talking to Professor McGonagall could be a great experience for her. She nodded when Irina teased her about the Cursebreaker applications not having a time limit. "Yeah I know. I just want to make a decision so I can try something else out, you know?"Anna figured/hoped that her friend would understand. Irina had a tendency to be able to do that. Then her friend brought up the pastries and Anna stood up and followed her across the room. They all looked so good! Anna's indecisiveness got the better of her and she asked the girl at the counter which was her favorite, ending up taking the chocolate cupcake, which was apparently good enough to die for. She went back to the table and sighed. "So is there anything else going on in your life?" Anna asked, wishing it hadn't been so long since the two friends had been able to talk last. Irina Rose Krum

Irina looked moderately relieved when Anna mentioned her Aunt Hermione. Hermione Granger had been a good friend to her father Viktor over the years - and if the Rita Skeeter articles from the nineties had any nuggets of truth, they were once a little more than just friends. Both had gone on to live separate lives as adults, but had maintained a solid friendship. She also knew her dad held a great amount of respect for the Minister, and therefore, so did she. “I think your aunt, as with anyone in your family, would want what makes you happy to be the best for you,” she told her friend, hoping it was true. She’d met plenty of the Potter-Weasley clan over the years, but she was fully aware of Anna’s fathers’ ambitions within the Ministry, and how he likely wanted his daughter to follow somewhat in his footsteps. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be too upset with her career change. Irina took a bite of her pastry, savoring the taste as Anna took her time deciding on what to get. She smiled; Anna was always a little indecisive when it came to sweet treats, and it was rather amusing that the conversation of the day was her career changing ideas. Irina took a sip of water as Anna rejoined her and asked what else was going on in her life. “Not too much, other than Daniel and the Cursebreaking trip,” she admitted, lifting her shoulders up and down in a small shrug. “Ohh, I did move in to a new flat with two girls who work at Saint Mungos. Tia Finch and Trixie Dolohov. I know, the last name got me a little wary too,” Irina quickly added, making a small face. “But she’s really a laugh. Tia I remembered from Hogwarts - Trixie’s a bit older than us so I wouldn’t have met her. Do you know Tia and Tamara Finch?” she asked curiously. Maybe Anna had some extra insight into the twin she was now roommates with. @annelise
