BROTHERLY LOVE Ashley did a have a point. Did he really become that easily influenced by the way people talked in this short amount of time? He just rolled his eyes, not wanting to acknowledge that really, and also because his sister was on the next joke about the library. He almost wanted to tell her about the dorky Ravenclaw girl whose nose he bashed in by accident with the library door, because it was funny, but not today. His jaw dropped when hers did, only to match her comical expression. "You mean the place with all of the old, dusty, mildewy books....yeah, it was terrible." he huffed and puffed, rolling his eyes dramatically. Ashley finally ascended to where he was hovering and was quick to give her a run down. "The rules are simple. Two laps around the whole pitch. Start at the Slytherin post and end there. You have to stay over the stands..got it?" Joe instructed firmly, the last part was more for a safety precaution for his sister. He didn't need her colliding with one of the stands and falling to her demise, although he knew that she could handle herself, and this wasn't her first time flying or anything. Joe turned to his sister to give her a look, "Ready...set..." he faced forward and leaned his body inward, gripping the broom with both hands. "Go!"They were off like two torpedos slicing through the air. Joe leaned all his weight into the broom while taking tight corners around the curves. They were close, and there was a good run for his money. Especially since Ashley was a lot lighter. While Joe was fast, he was a lot bulkier and carried more mass to drag him back. They made it around the first loop with great speed, keeping a close, tight proximity throughout the entire time. Joe was trying to be extra aware of his surroundings because he didn't want to crash into his sister. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Joe only rolled his eyes at Ashley's retort, which of course make her smirk, but she let it go there. She'd tease him about it later, which would be just as much fun as teasing him about it now. She laughed quietly when he mimicked her expression and mentioned how the library was terrible. Ashley snorted, "Yeah right. Knowing you, you probably got distracted when you saw someone cute there. Did you even study at all?" she teased, unable to help herself. She wasn't entirely sure that happened, but it was Joe and he much preferred to flirt than study so she really wouldn't be surprised.
He started explaining the rules and Ashley nodded as she listened, though she did roll her eyes when he emphasized that she had to stay over the stands. "If I have to stay over the stands, so do you," Ashley argued with a firm glare. She didn't need to be coddled, even if he was her older brother and that was kind of his job. Ashley wouldn't stand for it. She didn't like to feel like she was being babied.
She prepared herself when Joe was about to begin the race. She shot off at the same second he did, grinning at the feeling of the air rushing past her face. Her hair whipped around her face as she flew, but Ashley was pretty good at ignoring it. Joe was fast. She knew that, but at the same time she knew that she could at least give him some competition. Ashley was smaller than him, which made going fast slightly easier and she got plenty of practice doing things like this with her brother. She was almost right beside him, but decided to stop paying attention to him, urging her broom to go faster and faster to meet the next turn. Ashley normally wasn't super competitive, but with her brother, she was.
@joseph (hehe you can decide who's further ahead so far)

BROTHERLY LOVE Joe loved competition. Of all forms. But he would never admit to losing well, especially to his sister. It was something that took years of practice because she was honesty a great competitor. Joe loved to coddle her because it would put her in the funniest fits, he simply thrived off of picking on her because of that alone. As Ash quipped back about the stands, he let out a soft chuckle. "Okay, Boss." he saluted, and then they were off, over the stands of course. It was a close race from the start. They looped once, and then twice, and then the final curve they were side by side. Ashley was really giving him his run for his money. So, he started to bark at her like a rabid dog to distract her as they were approaching the Slytherin stands, though it didn't really seem to phase her much. "WOOF!! WOOOOF WOOF!!" he continued with more obscene sounds. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Ashley nodded firmly when Joe agreed to fly over the stands as well. She knew he was a good enough flyer that he didn't need to ... she was too, for that matter, but as long as they were doing the same thing, she figured it was fair enough. At least Joe wasn't trying to treat her like a child. Her parents might not approve of that, since she was still their "baby girl", but Joe knew her better than anyone. He was one of the people who pushed her when it came to flying. He wouldn't let her get away with anything but her best. Still, Ashley hadn't expected to fare so well against her brother today. She was trying her best and going as fast as she could, and apparently it was paying off. Joe was starting to bark and act like a madman, probably to distract her or something. Ashley rolled her eyes, leaning closer to her broomstick and urging it to go faster. "Good to know I'm making you nervous," she called, unsure if he would hear, but not really caring. They were almost done ... @joseph (you can choose who wins!)

BROTHERLY LOVE Joe and Ashley were side by side still, his barking and obscene sounds didn't seem to deter her one bit. That shouldn't have been much of a surprise since Ashley didn't usually fall for his distractions...he couldn't really remember the last time she actually had. When she told him that she was happy that she was making him nervous, he couldn't help but snort. She was onto him. Damn. Ashley and Joe reached the Slytherin stands and stopped to a hault, Ashley had definitely won but he wasn't going to celebrate. Partially because he hated losing - especially to his little sister. His eye brows ruffled, "Who are are you? And what happened to my sister?" he plead comically, giving her a glare, before breaking it by brushing hair out of his face. "Okay, that was pretty good." Joe immediately caved, unable to hide that he was actually kind of.... impressed? "So, when are you trying out for the house team and sharing your hidden skills with the rest of world?" he asked her, teasingly. It would have been pretty cool if she had joined, but on second thought, it would be a lot more responsibility for him making sure bludgers didn't hit her during the game. That would definitely make him more vulnerable to other players if they knew that his sister was on the team, since she'd be a prime target. She was pretty fast though, Ashley would definitely be able to if she wanted to. He enjoyed simply hinting the idea at her occasionally to see how her moods changed about the idea. She won! And it was an obvious win, Joe definitely couldn't try to argue it, which made Ashley deliriously happy. Mostly because it meant she could rub the fact in her brother's face, which was something Ashley always enjoyed doing. It was fine, he'd do the same thing if he won so it was totally fair. She turned to face him, smiling ever so sweetly. "Who am I? I'm the non-Quiddith or Quodpot playing girl that beat you! Ha! Your sister is officially a winner when it comes to racing, Joseph Fontaine. Don't say you're not proud of me for it," she teased, batting her eyelashes comically at her older brother. She laughed when he admitted that it was "pretty good". "Pretty good?! That was awesome!" She laughed again, delighted by this turn of events.
Then she started shaking her head, "Oh no no no. I am not a Quidditch player, I am clearly a racer," she pointed out. "These skills are only for the privileged people that would appreciate them. I think .... well you are obviously one of those people," she nodded her head to him slowly, "but I'll have to let you know when I find someone else. At the moment, you're the only worthy one, brother." Ashley laughed. "Besides, I told a Gryffindor player over the summer that I'm no good on a broom. Don't want to let him in on the secret. Can I trust you to keep it for me?" Ashley was kind of teasing, but also just curious to see what her brother would say. She loved the way he reacted to things like this.

BROTHERLY LOVE "Don't get a big head now, you got lucky." he grumbled, rolling his green eyes to the back of his skull as she boasted about her win. Which was kind of funny considering if this scenario were reversed, he would be shoving it in her face too. They were both naturally so competitive, even back to when they were young kids, they would battle over...well, anything. It would be a full fight to the death in their family room. Usually ending in odd injury, or tears, or injuries ending in full blown dramatics to get the other person in trouble. Ash would do that, pouting our her bottom lip and giving their dad the most angelic look that would instantly give her immunity in the situation. As they got older, they weren't able to take it out on in each other in such violent acts. Joseph and Ashley fought about more petty things these days. Like flying races and prying for information. Joe didn't really mind this because he loved his sister, he was glad to have her around at this stupid school. She had secretly become an anchor of sorts for him this year. As Ashley joked about telling a guy her abilities weren't up to par on a broom, his expression faltered. Hovering in place on the broom, he turned to Ashley with a slightly dumbfounded expression, "Why lie about your flying abilities when you're clearly a flyer?" he questioned her, thinking that was the stupidest thing he had ever heard. Joe was well aware of his little sisters abilities, quidditch was his thing. "That's basically equivalent to playing dumb for a guy to make him think you're cute." Joe stated harshly. Ashley laughed when Joe mumbled that she got lucky. ”Yeah, yeah. Like there’s any way I’ll believe that. You did your best and so did I. I just won this time.” That wasn’t to say that Ashley thought she would always win in a race against Joe, but she was proud that she did this time. She could brag about it all she wanted and she knew that it annoyed him, even if it was just a little bit. ”And don’t pretend like you wouldn’t be doing even more if you’d been the one to win,” she added after thinking for a moment. ”I know you just as well as you know me.” That, at least was true. She and Joe had been best friends for as long as she could remember. Granted, it was different when they were younger, both ragging on one another and wrestling, but Ashley liked to think that those experiences contributed to the closeness that she and her elder brother shared. She couldn’t imagine being here at Hogwarts without him and was honestly not excited at the thought of going to school without him next year, wherever that happened.
The look on Joe’s face was comical, but also not. She could tell, even before he spoke, that he was a little annoyed. Ashley watched him curiously, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to keep his thoughts to himself. That wasn’t Joe’s way. She shrugged at his first question. ”I’m not clearly a flyer. You can’t look at me and know how good of a flyer I am.” Joe’s next statement was more angry and she looked at him seriously. ”OR I don’t want an obvious Quidditch jock interested in me just because he knows I can play. Or I don’t want him pushing me to play on a team when I don’t want to. There are plenty of reasons to keep it to myself.” Ashley’s tone was lofty now, like his questions and comments were beneath her. She didn’t like Joe’s tone. ”Maybe I’ll make it a nice surprise sometime,” she added, mostly to annoy him a little more. Why not? He was annoying her and turnabout was definitely fair play.

BROTHERLY LOVE Joe simply rolled his eyes at Ashley. Sometimes his sister was so ~dumb. He was just going to ignore her comment about them both doing their best. Whatever. Admittedly, she did do pretty well though...they would definitely have to race more often. Not that he would tell her that. He had to play it off like he was butthurt still. Narrowing his eyes at the blonde, his lips formed a straight line. "I can tell if people are good flyers by simply looking at them." he quipped, giving her a challenging look. Joe did feel like he had that talent, even though it was more of a feeling about people more than anything. Although he truly felt like he could tell the way someone rode a broom just by the way they carried themselves. "So, what you're really trying to say is....you don't know how to tell people "no"." he said over confidently, still a challenging tone to his voice. Joe was honestly just messing with his sister like always, but if it struck a nerve and pissed her off, maybe she had more suppressed thoughts than what she was aware of. Now it was Ashley's turn to roll her eyes at her brother, "Yeah, sure you can, but are you really trying to tell me that every other flyer at the school is as talented as you?" Maybe appealing to her brother's pride a little would help him understand what she was trying to say, which was mostly that she didn't want someone wanting to be around her just because they thought she was a good flyer. She shrugged slightly at his next question, giving him a "really?" look. "Of course I can say no, but I don't want to piss off all the Quidditch players in one go. What if I actually decide to join a team someday? It's a lot easier my way." She smiled sweetly at him, knowing that would probably annoy him some. "Besides," she answered, a mischievous glint entering her eyes, "It's well worth it to see the look on their faces when they realize how good a flyer I really am." That was one thing Ashley absolutely loved. The stunned, obvious look of approval when a guy realized that she was very good on a broom. Joe should be able to understand that. And if he didn't ... "It's kind of like how you don't tell most people how good of a cook and baker you are," she added conversationally.

BROTHERLY LOVE Joe loved how worked up Ashley would get about these things. Its because she felt passionate about what she believed in. He actually really respected that, it was just fun to make her explain herself. Especially because of how worked up it would get it. She even got a little personal, mentioning the whole cooking thing and how he didn't share that with people. Okay. She had a point. Joe wordlessly shrugged his shoulders, an undeniably defeated expression casting over his features. "Okay, you got me lil sis. I get it" he finally said, uncharacteristically submissively. He was kind of over the quidditch talk anyways. "You hungry? Lets go eat." he pitched, maneuvering his broom toward the blonde. "Since you beat me...fair and square...your choice." Joe sighed dramatically with an eyeroll, happy to sweeten up his sister however he can. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Ashley grinned when she saw Joe shrug and give in. Good. She knew that he was probably just giving in because he wasn't in the mood to fight or argue, but that was plenty okay with her. She liked winning, even if it was just winning silly little arguments. The thing was, if she gave in to Joe, he'd tease her mercilessly about it. This way, she could let it drop and really just enjoy her time with her older brother, which was what Ashley really wanted. She nodded enthusiastically when he mentioned food. "Famished! Yes, let's go!" She waited for him to draw nearer to her and then nodded. "Okay, let's get something sweet!" She wasn't sure if he was letting her choose what they ate or whatever, but that's what she wanted. If they went to the kitchens, maybe she could get some ice cream! She always wanted ice cream though, so that wasn't a surprise. --- the end --- @joseph
