Shawn had been racking his brain trying to figure out what he was going to do for the past week. It didn’t help that Callisto had gone and planned an amazing birthday for him. He was left with no idea how he was even going to top it. It also didn’t help that almost everyone was no help. “Just do something fancy, like a some classy restaurant.” Was his best friends suggestion but he couldn’t just go out to a restaurant. Yet again maybe Callisto would want something fancy and calm, she didn’t really enjoy his birthday as much. She appeared to be afraid of heights. This was just like their first date all over again, no one was any help and every idea he had just wasn’t good enough to him.
He could only imagine how silly he must have looked trying to figure this out. He couldn’t remember the last time he was this nervous about something. He didn’t even think his interview for Hogwarts was this stressful. Birthdays shouldn’t be this hard he thought a number of times for the past couple days. It didn’t help that Callisto birthday was fast approaching. There wasn’t much time left and he wasn’t getting any ideas, it was like being trapped. On one hand he could try something simple that she might like but it wouldn’t be anything compared to his birthday or he could do something crazy and she might hate it. He did suddenly get an idea and it was probably the best one he had so far.
He wrote Callisto the day before her birthday asking her to meet him at a little park in London. It wouldn’t give too much away but was within walking distance to the idea he had. Or at least he hoped it would work out, he didn’t have very many back up plans if she didn’t like the surprise. Still on the day of her birthday he began what seemed like his normal routine when it involved Callisto. Get nervous and pace around for a bit before just sucking it up and going. One of these days this would feel normal for him and maybe it would have if this wasn’t her birthday after all. Shawn arrived early, possibly far earlier than he needed too but he didn’t want to worry about being late on top of everything else on his mind. Finding a nice bench in an open he sat down and attempted to not second guess himself the whole time and failing at it while he waited for Callisto.

Callisto had received a letter from Shawn yesterday, inviting her to meet him at a park in London. It really didn't give much more information than that, which was both terrifying and exciting. She had a feeling Shawn knew her well enough that he wouldn't plan anything she'd completely hate... but he also was a troublemaker and might make her suffer a little just to get a good laugh. Which, honestly, wasn't entirely a bad thing. As long as she laughed eventually too, right? Callisto arrived five minutes early, not wanting to seem to eager. She had arrived in the neighborhood at least twenty minutes ago and was biding her time before approaching the small park. There he was, waiting for her on a bench. She took in a deep breath, as she often did when preparing to talk with Shawn, and walked toward him. "I suppose I have the right place," she commented, smiling a little as she walked toward him. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn was just going through his thoughts for a moment. Compared to past relationships he knew he was putting more thought into this one. He wasn’t sure if that was just a sign that he was maturing somehow or not. Yet he denied that idea, no one in their right might would accuse him of being mature about much in this world. The only other explanation was that Callisto was different from anyone he had ever dated, that had to be it. There was one other explanation for why every date made him just a little nervous with Callisto. Again he shook his head at that thought, they had only been together for a short time so that would just be silly. He was pulled from his random and jumbled thoughts by Callisto’s voice as she approached. He just smiled as he looked toward her. “I would hope so or we both came to the wrong place which would have to be a sign or something.” Shawn teased after Callisto said this must have been the right location.
He stood up from the bench and turned toward Callisto, looking amazing as she always seemed to. Shawn always felt he was just getting by when it came to his wardrobe. “This park was a perfect meeting place , it’s within walking distance of the sky diving school.” Shawn said while attempting to be serious for a moment as he had decided during his birthday to not do anything with heights. Callisto seemed to have a pretty strong fear of them based on their last date. “Or maybe I’m kidding?” He finally said laughing as he doubted Callisto could tell if he was or not yet.

He smiled at her as she approached, too, which made her nerves calm a little. Why was it always so nerve racking to be around him? She didn't think it should be this... well, this much emotional work to be involved with someone. Then again, she didn't know anything about relationships... so she couldn't really say what was normal and what was not. He joked that perhaps they both came to the wrong place, saying that would be a sign or something. She shook her head, "that... is a very highly unlikely situation," she said, falling back to her logic. He stood and turned to her and she lost her smile for a moment due to getting lost in that eye contact. He said the park was the perfect meeting place, saying it was in walking distance of the sky diving school. Her eyes widened and her heart leapt into her throat. She tried to open her mouth to speak but nothing came out. he added that maybe he was kidding, laughing as he did so. Her eyes narrowed into a glare, "then you have a sick sense of humor, sir," she said firmly. Okay, maybe it was a little funny... but the thought of sky diving was terrifying enough that she didn't get a laugh out. shawn lesley ashcroft

Callisto claimed that it would be highly unlikely that they would both happen to meet at the wrong place. Especially if they were going to be meeting somewhere anyway and Shawn in his head at least agreed with that. “More unlikely things have happened before, just look at us together.” Shawn teased for a moment as he began to feel like normal once Callisto was here. It was something about waiting for her or just the fact that it gave him the time to second guess himself. Being honest with himself he rarely took the time to second guess or think what he was doing in life besides just what he wanted to at that moment. “Still it would be like some children’s story if that did happen. Some sign it’s meant to be.” Shawn half joked as that would be an interesting story. Shawn stood up and made his joke about sky diving, it was funny to him as was Callisto’s reaction to it. Followed by her claiming he had a sick since of humor. “ You’re just now realizing that? It’ll only get worse once we’re up in the air.” Shawn laughed a little as he replied, after this he would stop talking about sky jumping at least for sometime. Callisto obviously had a genuine fear of heights and it would just be cruel to keep bringing it up. “You have my word that we’ll have our feet on the floor for the whole night.” He explained as he offered his hand, just in case she was in the mood to hold his hand while they walked toward her birthday event.

He said more unlikely things had happened, like them being together, and Callisto narrowed her eyes at him for a moment before chuckling softly and shaking her head. "Isn't that the truth. I wonder, what powers that be brought that upon us? Heaven knows you don't deserve it," she was only half joking, really. Shawn deserved someone who would hang on his arm, snuggle him constantly, be a light in his life. Still, that didn't means he was going to give him up just because someone else may be more suitable. No, it was too late for that and she was selfish. He said it would be like a children's story if they did meet serendipitously and she nodded her head, "meant to be," she repeated. He commented that his sense of humor would only be worse once they were up in the air and her eyes widened a little. Wait, was he kidding or not!? Then he laughed, and she felt her chest relax. Okay, okay he had ot be kidding. He said that they would have their feet on the floor the whole night and she nodded, taking his hand almost instantly when he offered. Partly because she wanted to, and partly because she needed it to calm her nerves. "Lead the way to the completely earthbound activity."shawn lesley ashcroft

All Shawn could do was laugh as Callisto joked about his comment about them being just as unlikely as randomly meeting each other here. Adding that he didn’t deserve it. He was little unsure if she was implying that he didn't deserve being with her in the sense that she wasn’t the person for him or she was too good for him. Either way Shawn was at least sure that she was just joking and decided to take the more likely implication to him. “How did you know I don’t deserve you? I was hoping you wouldn’t realize you could do much better till later.” Shawn joked even if the idea had crossed his mind, he didn’t mind them being different and honestly enjoyed it. Callisto replied his words of it being meant to be and Shawn smiled once more. “Who am I to argue,” he teased while he replied back.
Taking his hand Callisto explained to lead the way, making sure to add that it be completely on the ground. He was done with the skydiving and height remarks for a moment. “You’ve got it.” Shawn replied with a smile as they walked. It was still surprising to him how quickly Callisto was to always hold his hand. He of course wasn’t about to complain as he enjoyed it too much to do that. Yet never thought her the type. “How’s it feel being a year older? Any major changes?” He asked mostly kidding around and making small talk for a moment while they proceed toward their destination.

He laughed, and she smiled in amusement. He asked how she knew he didn't deserve her, saying that he was hoping she wouldn't realize until later that she could do much better. "That's not... what I meant," she narrowed her eyes at him, but her lips were still smiling. "You're the one who deserves better, don't deny it," she said, lifting a finger to point at his face. As she agreed with the 'meant to be' comment, he replied with a sweet smile and she, for a moment, just smiled back without saying anything - words didn't really seem necessary always. Shawn started to lead her, asking how it felt being a year older, if there were any major changes. "Well, I suppose this year has brought a lot of change," she started. At the start of the year she had two jobs, now she only had one full time. She had met Brandon last Christmas, which helped change her exponentially. Her nephew, Sebastian, had grown and changed a lot, often under her care. And, of course, she had met Shawn. "Mostly good things," she added. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn knew the both of them could argue about almost anything if they wanted to and he mostly did that for fun. Callisto finding the more logical answers and Shawn just spouting nonsense at times in an argument. Yet this one wasn’t one he felt he was going to lose, it was obvious to him that Callisto deserved better than him. How she felt that it was the other way was beyond him. ”Come now, you’re the smart one here. If it’s obvious to me that you deserve better than you should have seen it a mile away.” Shawn said only mildly joking, even if he believed Callisto deserved better he wasn’t willing to give her up just yet. Possibly ever but that was a discussion in his head for another time. ”You’ve got brains, beauty and best of all you haven’t killed me yet so that takes plenty of patients.”
As they began to walk Callisto explained that the past year has had plenty of changes. Some of which Shawn was aware of and was glad to hear that most have them had been for the better. ”I’d like to hope I’m part of the mostly good things category.” He teased for a second, if Shawn wasn’t he would have assumed Callisto wouldn’t be sticking around him any longer. As they walked they were almost to there destination. ”So about your birthday, it’s kind of two places.” Shawn explained with a pause as they stopped in front of a building. ”I made reservations at this fancy restaurant nearby but first I figured we could have some fun. This place here is one of this muggle escape rooms. I figured you’d be smart enough to get us out in time that we won’t miss are reservation. That and I won’t get stuck in there all over again.” Shawn joked but it wasn’t like it was a complete lie. He felt like Callisto deserved a better birthday than this but it would have to do as it was the best he could come up with. Besides skydiving.

This could go on for hours if they let it, so it was probably best for them to quit while they were ahead. He said that she was the smart one and that it was obvious to him that she deserved better then she should have realized it first. She rolled her eyes, "this could take a while," she said, her thoughts coming out loud. He added that she had the brains, beauty an hadn't killed him yet. She shrugged, "there's still time for that," she pointed out. He said he hoped he was part of the good things that had happened to her this year, "eeeh, that remains to be seen," she joked. She was always better at the jokes that could kind of be insults at the same time. But with Shawn it was all in good fun. He started to explain her birthday plans, stopping to say he made reservations at a fancy restaurant but first there was a muggle escape room. Her eyes widened a little, "oooh, so it's like riddle solving?" she couldn't hide her excitement at that idea. She also couldn't help but smile at the idea of Shawn getting locked in there. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn nodded as Callisto didn’t continue the argument of who deserved better, just saying that the argument itself would take quite awhile. “Isn’t that the truth but I look forward to continuing it for sometime. You deserve someone better than me but I’m just selfish enough to not give you up.” All of which was a fact, at least in Shawn’s mind it was were even if he knew Callisto would never agree to the first part. He laughed once more as Callisto claimed there was still time where she would end up killing home. “I always knew my life would end with a beautiful woman.” He teased only slightly as he wouldn’t have doubted that if it did came to pass.
Callisto joked that Shawn being a good thing in her life remained to be seen. “Well now I hope your birthday goes well since you still happen to be on the fence about me.” Shawn replied teasingly at least about the last part. He genuinely did hope that Callisto would enjoy what he had planned for her birthday. He felt he could have done better somehow but he couldn’t think of anything else. Either he was running out of ideas in his life for Callisto just made him that nervous about trying to plan the prefect day for her.
It was a very good sign to Shawn that as he explained what he had planned Callisto started to smile and almost look excited. It was just the bit of reassurance he had wanted and needed. “Sort of, some are riddles and other clues are puzzles with numbers. It all depends on how they are set up. As far as I know they change it up each time so people can’t just breeze through based on what someone else tells them.” At least as far as Shawn knew that’s what places like this did. He had only tried it himself once more on a whim and didn’t get out in the time they gave. “So the reservations are in about an hour, you have to get us out before then or we’ll miss it. I figured we’d be out of whatever they set up in twenty minutes or less knowing you.”

Shawn said he looked forward to continuing their argument about this, saying that he was just selfish enough not to give her up. For a moment there, all the joking attitude of the whole thing seemed to be sucked right out of there air and she felt like she was floating in a bubble. She wanted to say 'I hope you don't'. But she didn't. He said his life would end with a beautiful woman and she shrugged, "if not me maybe one of my sisters will do it if you break my heart. They're beautiful and scary," she explained. He said he hoped her birthday went well and could be counted among the good things this year. "This is the real test," she confirmed with a nod. She was kidding, of course. She wasn't that crazy about her birthday. He explained the activity and she listened intently, nodding at each new part of the explanation. He said they had an hour or they'd miss their reservations, and she almost asked where they were eating - but one thing at a time. He guessed they'd be done in twenty minutes and she shook her head, "you think too highly of me. Come on!" she said, taking his hand again so he could take her to this place. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn laughed for a moment as Callisto said that one her sisters might end up being the one to kill him if he had broken her heart. “I doubt that,” he paused with a shake of his head. “I mean I’m sure either of them could but I can only imagine you would beat them to it if I ever did anything worth breaking your heart. I’d deserve it either way.” Callisto explained this was the real test and while Shawn felt like she was kidding it didn’t help with the uneasy feeling that this wouldn’t be good enough for her. “Well that doesn’t add any pressure at all.” Shawn joked even if it was partly true but it wasn’t like he hadn’t been worried about it already anyway.
“I don’t think that’s possible.” Shawn replied as Callisto said he thought to much of her. As she took he’s hand he started walking inside the building. There was a main lobby with a few people and one behind the counter. There were also a number of doors off the main lobby. Shawn approached the counter still hand in hand with Callisto. “Hey, I booked one of the escape rooms for this time.” Shawn explained to the woman behind the counter. “Yes, Mr. Ashcroft and.. Mrs?” The woman presumed and Shawn didn’t really know how to reply. “No, just girlfriend, This is Callisto.” He corrected her as it was already a little awkward now. “Oh well right this way.”
They followed her into one of the rooms which was designed to look closely like a prison cell but only cleaner and more spacious he would assume. “Okay, so you’ll be locked in here and have to get out by a set time. Just use the clues and figure how to get out. Don’t worry, if you want out at any time there is a button on the other side of the bars. Just push it and you can be let out.” The woman explained before closing the fake cell. Even if the bars seemed a bit heavier than a fake should be. She left and the timer on the wall near the button started. “Well I guess you can tell people I got you sent to jail on your birthday in a way.” Shawn teased for a moment.

He suggested that she would beat her sisters to killing him and she cocked her head from side to side, considering. "I guess that's true. I wouldn't waste any time - I don't waste time," she said - her tone severe even if she was just playing along with the joke. He said that there was no pressure and she shrugged, "birthdays are always pressure, especially since you had such a great one," she challenged. He said that he didn't think it was possible for him to think too much of her and she didn't respond, shaking her head a little at the compliment. Sometimes she didn't know how to respond when he said stuff like that. Once inside, though, her slight un-surety came even stronger when the receptionist called her 'Mrs.' Her eyes widened for a moment and she moved a little closer to Shawn, who pointed out she was just his girlfriend and Callisto nodded - maybe a little too vigorously than was lady like. They were led to the room and Callisto released his hand upon stepping in, wanting to take in the scenery around them. The cell closed and Callisto was already surveying the equipment. Her eyes narrowed at the television first, even as Shawn made his joke, "yes, yes, jail, all well and good," she was in problem solving mode now, "okay, try changing the channel on that tv," she suggested, ordering him around a bit as she turned to assess something else in the room - a black phone on the wall. "This says we get to ask three questions," she scoffed, "I plan to do it with none."shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn laughed for a moment as Callisto agreed that she would be the one to do him in if he had hurt her in some major way. “Well that’s reassuring.” He teased for a second as this was a normal conversation for them at times, last time about her being the dragon he was attempting to be friends with if he remembered correctly. Callisto added that birthdays also had some pressure especially since he had had such a great birthday which had been planned by her. “Well that’s a little rude, you broke into my house and read my secret diary just to find out what I thought of my birthday?” Shawn teased as it was pretty clear that his birthday had been a great one anyway.
He avoided the laugh that attempted to escape as Callisto reacted to being called his wife for a second. He only saw her reaction out of the corner of his eye but it had been rather funny. It was an awkward situation for sure though, he wouldn’t blame her for that. Once in the mock jail cell and it being locked Callisto began attempting to figure out how to get them out. There was no laugh from his joke and she started to tell him what to do. Something he didn’t have much problem with as this was something he imagined would be her speciality. That and he had been awful at this last time. “Yes Ms. Oliveira.” Shawn answered as he turned the knob and it didn’t really show any images, just skipped around a few channels. While he did that Callisto pointed out that they got to ask questions and that she planned to get out without using any of them. “I have to say I’m really enjoying take charge competitive Callisto.” He only mildly joked with a small wink.
