Ashley explained that Edmund would be working with her older brother and Lusie nodded, assuming that Ashley’s older brother was a member of the Slytherin Quidditch team. “That’s cool. I'm sure they know one another, then.” Lusie said as well. Maybe they were friends. It would be nice for Ed to make more friends, she thought. She wouldn’t ever say it out loud, but sometimes she was worried that Ed was too cold to people to make friends. She loved her brother, but she knew how he was with anyone who wasn’t Addi. She then explained that she had another brother who was older and worked in America, Lusie nodded. That sounded cool. She didn’t know much about MACUSA.
“Well the Beauxbatons students lived in their carriage and the Durmstrang students lived in their ship. And they did their own classes there as well, for the most part at least. It was fairly segregated. I think they just didn’t want to tournament to disrupt classes as much as possible so they tried to keep things relatively normal.” she explained, hoping that it made sense to the American girl. “Does your school do anything cool or fun like that? I know you play Quodpot in America, right? But do you have a lot of balls or parties?” she asked. Ashley asked if she minded the Americans being here and Lusie shook her head. “I certainly don’t, but I like to meet new people.” she shrugged. “I suppose some might, but they certainly don’t represent the majority of students.” she insisted.

Lusie commented that Edmund and Joe probably knew one another and Ashley nodded firmly. “I’m sure they do.” She laughed then, “but I’m not quite sure if your brother will like mine very much. He can be a bit headstrong sometimes, especially when he’s on a broom.” Of course, Joe wasn’t the only one who could be headstrong. Ash had plenty of her own issues doing that, but she wasn’t going to come out and tell the Hufflepuff her faults. Tattling on her brother was just fine, especially for the moment.
Ashley listened with rapt attention as Lusie explained more and more about the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students and everything that happened with them last year. Her jaw dropped, her mouth forming an “o” as she listened to the other girl. The students stayed separated during basically everything? Huh, that sounded like a waste. Why not combine the classes and make the friendships actually real? Doing everything so separated didn’t seem like the best way to get everyone involved and creating the “bonds” that the Tournament was designed to create. She shrugged as Lusie started to ask about American traditions. “Uh, we don’t have any tournaments with other schools, which is a shame in my opinion.” She smirked at the mention of Quodpot. “Yeah, we play Quodpot as well as Quidditch. We did quite a few dances at my school, so not so much parties or balls, but we had a few during the year. Do you guys do that? Or just the small dances in that Room of Requirement?” It was fun and Ashley definitely enjoyed herself with Sav, but she was a little curious if they did more or not. She nodded, “Well, I’m glad that most of you don’t mind us being here. I’m enjoying it a bit.” A bit more than she wanted to admit, but that was fine. Ashley didn’t have to keep everything a secret, she was learning.

Ashley agreed that it was likely that their brothers knew each other. She then added that she wasn’t sure if they got along, though. Ashley explained that her brother was very headstrong and especially when he was on a broom. Lusie couldn’t help a laugh escaped her lips. “If you hadn’t specified that you were talking about your brother, I’d insist you were describing mine.” Edmund was entirely too headstrong and independent. She loved him, don’t get her wrong, her older brother was probably her best friend, but she knew that he was stubborn, strong-willed and brooding. Maybe it was an older brother thing.
She explained that the had their sporting events and a few parties of sort, but no balls or anything like that, really. She then turned the question back on Hogwarts, asking if they did anything of the sort, Luise nodded, “We have balls, not too often, but they happen. And yes, there are the parties in the Room of Requirement, but those are all thrown by students, they’re not school sanctioned activities.” she added. Lusie had never gone to one of those parties, they weren’t exactly her thing. “And we have Quidditch events and other feasts and such throughout the year.” she explained. There seemed to always be something fun going on around the castle. “Are you all happy to be here? Or, I’m sure you’d rather be home at your own school…” Lusie mused, wondering if her question was a stupid one.

Lusie said that it sounded like Ashley was describing her own brother and the blonde laughed. "Seriously? Oooh, Joe would hate that!" Her brother prided himself on being unique and different from everyone. Maybe she could use this as teasing material at some point. It would probably get on his nerves, which was the point.
Ashley listened as Lusie explained what kinds of events happened at Hogwarts. "Have you heard anything about any balls this year?" Ashley asked, probably a little too enthusiastically. She wanted to see how fancy a ball was. It was probably something like the high-society events her parents went to back in New York, but Ashley was definitely interested in attending one with people her own age. She nodded as Lusie mentioned the parties in the Room of Requirement. She'd definitely enjoyed the last one enough that if she heard of any others, Ashley would definitely be attending them. "Sounds like you guys always have something going on," Ashley answered, grinning when an elf brought her a bowl of ice cream. Grinning, she took a bite, shrugging at the Hufflepuff's question. After she swallowed she answered, "I miss Ilvermorny, but I don't hate Hogwarts. Your castle and grounds are very interesting and you guys are pretty nice and inviting. I'm actually enjoying it here far more than I thought I would." That was saying something. When Ashley learned she would be coming to Hogwarts for her sixth year of school, she'd been angry. She didn't want to go somewhere so far away, but she really didn't have a choice, unless she wanted to be homeschooled, which she didn't.

Lusie laughed along with Ashley’s comment that Joe would hate that he was similar to her own brother, Edmund. “Maybe we should just pray nothing ever comes to blows between them then.” Lusie concluded with a small shrug. Hopefully, the two Slytherin men could just ignore each other and co-exist for the most part. Lusie didn’t want to go visit Ed in the hospital wing with a black eye or anything. Though, she wasn’t sure Ed would let it get that far in the first place.
Lusie shook her head at the question about any balls this year. “No. I haven’t at least. If anyone knows, the prefects of head boy or girl might. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they just sprung one on us.” she admitted. It had happened before. Hogwarts loved it’s surprises, but they also tried to give students warning if they needed to get dress robes. “I don’t think people like to be bored.” Lusie told her when she said that it sounded like they always had something going on. “People like to socialize and mingle, and especially between the houses.” people could always socialize in their common rooms as much as they wanted. But the room of requirement parties provided a lot more diversity in conversation partners. Maybe she’d try to go to one this year. She admitted that she did miss her school, but she liked it here a lot more than she thought. “Well good, I’m glad we’re proving to be accommodating.” said the Brit as she finished her tea. A few crumbs remained on her plate from the biscuits.

Ashley grinned at Lusie’s comment about hoping their brothers never got into a fight. “Yeah, I think that would probably be a good idea,” she agreed easily. She didn’t really know Lusie’s brother at all, other than what she’d seen in the common room. From his looks, she assumed Joe would easily take him if it ever did get to a fight, but she wasn’t about to tell Lusie that. In all honesty, Ash had a lot of confidence in Joe and his ability to take care of whatever situations arose. He was good at that sort of stuff, which was why she always kept it a secret when she had feelings for someone she thought he might not approve of.
Lusie admitted she hadn’t heard of any balls or anything going on this year and frowned. This school didn’t do normal dances? Why not?! It was a great opportunity to get students to meet new people and to raise spirits and such. From what Ashley heard, the students here at Hogwarts needed something like that, if the last few years said anything about their morale with all the attacks. “I hope they do. I love things like that,” Ashley told her, smiling as she thought of the dances they used to hold at Ilvermorny. She nodded and took a bite of her ice cream when the Hufflepuff mentioned people not liking to be bored. Ashley could definitely understand that, since she was not the type to like that sort of thing either. “Yeah, mingling and socializing definitely makes things more fun and interesting.” Ashley didn’t used to really care one way or the other, but she made quite a few friends that weren’t in her house. She’d be sad if people here at Hogwarts didn’t like doing things with one another. She continued to eat her ice cream as Lusie added that she was glad they were being accommodating. “You guys are doing great,” Ashley answered, confirming her previous statement. “So what’s your favorite thing about Hogwarts?” Ash asked curiously.

While Lusie had already finished her evening tea, Ashley was still eating and Lusie didn’t want to be rude by attempting to leave now, even though she was growing tired. She yawned while Ashley spoke, trying her best to politely cover it with her hand, and nodding along, showing that she was still listening. “They are fun, I went last year for a minute. I didn’t stay long.” she explained. It was a bit too crowded for her, and she had gone without a date. She had thought about trying to force Edmund to take her, but she ended up not doing so. She wasn’t even sure that he knew she went at all. If they had one this year, she would go. She was a lot more sure of herself and outgoing this year. She was trying hard to get and stay out of her shell. Ashley agreed that mingeling was good and that people liked it. Lusie just nodded, there wasn’t much further to take that topic. “I’m sure there will be parties this year, there are normally a few like the Halloween ones.” she explained. She’d probably go to those too, or at least make an appearance. If there was someone there she wanted to talk to, she would. But otherwise, she could just go back to her room and go to bed. Ashley insisted that they were all doing a fine job of accommodating and then asked Lusie what she liked the most about Hogwarts. Lusie thought for a moment and then spoke her answer, “I like the vastness.” she said softly. “I like that the castle is so large, it’s so incredibly big and full of secrets that no one could ever explore it all.” it was rumored that the castle was always growing and expanding. There were underground vaults, secret passages in the walls and so many empty rooms. It was incredible.

Lusie seemed to be the epitome of politeness. She was obviously already done with her tea and sitting there because Ashley wasn't done. Ash started to eat her ice cream a little more quickly, smiling when she noticed Lusie covering a yawn with her hand. She twisted her head to the side for a second. "Why didn't you stay long?" Ashley asked. She was aware that she was being a bit nosy, but in all honesty she couldn't really help herself. She was curious and it didn't seem like Lusie was trying to not talk about it. She just seemed like the kind of person who didn't really explain things unless one asked. "If you don't mind me asking," Ash added after a minute, trying to be polite.
Ash smiled as the Hufflepuff explained that there were normally quite a few parties, even if they weren't formal ones. That was fine. While Ashley really liked the idea of formal parties, she could appreciate just getting together with a few friends and spending time with them. She couldn't help but hope that maybe she and Eli could go to something like that. Maybe not as a couple, but just for fun. She'd have to see. She had no idea whether or not he'd be interested in that sort of thing. "I'm glad to hear it. I really like parties," Ashley answered.
Lusie explained that she liked how big the castle was. "Have you tried to explore it all?" Ashley asked. While she enjoyed the castle with its moving staircases and such, she'd never thought to see how much she could learn about it. She smiled, "I like the castle too. It's beautiful." She didn't know as much about it as the Hogwarts students did of course, but it didn't take years in a place to recognize it as majestic.

Ashley asked why Lusie didn’t stay long, as she mentioned and Lusie shrugged. “I’m not much for those sorts of thing. I don’t really like crowds much, and loud music kind of gets to me after a while.” she wasn’t someone who wanted to be around people who were being annoying and stupid. She didn’t drink or party, so why would she want to be around people who liked that sort of thing while they were doing it? She didn’t want to be associated with that sort of behavior. She could hardly imagine what Edmund would say if he got word that she was at a party. Balls were a bit different, since they were school sanctioned, but she didn’t have a date to the last one, and didn’t really fancy being there alone.
Upon being asked if Lusie had attempted to make her way around the entire castle, the Hufflepuff shook her head, “No, I sort of figure that if you try to see it all you won’t, but maybe throughout my years I will have accidentally stumbled on enough of it. That’s kind of the cool part. Sometimes you’ll take a turn that you thought you knew and suddenly you’ll be somewhere you’ve never been.” perhaps that was a little deep for tea talk, but as Lusie found herself growing more and more ready for bed, she wasn’t thinking so much about her words. “I think I need to excuse myself,” Lusie finally admitted. “It’s quite late and I’ve got early class.” she explained. “Would you like me to help you back to your common room?” she offered, she could at least walk her back part of the way until she turned to her own common room.

Lusie said she wasn't really into parties, explaining why and Ashley nodded. That definitely wasn't the way she looked at them, but she could respect the other girl's perspective on it. "Yeah, I can imagine how parties like that would get to you then," she agreed with a nod. Ashley loved them, but she also grew up going to loud parties with lots of people. This girl, being royalty, probably was used to very proper and polite parties instead. Of course she would feel uncomfortable in a situation like that. "Well maybe Hogwarts will have a ball sometime this year!" Ashley added hopefully. She'd love to go to a ball in a castle. It just sounded fun. That was a very ... interesting perspective on how to view the castle. Ashley was definitely of the point of view that if you wanted something, you had to make it happen. Lusie pointed out that during her years at the castle, she'd seen most of it, and when she stumbled into new places she got to explore a little more. Huh. That wasn't a bad way of looking at it at all. "I look forward to that happening," Ashley said with a smile. She liked checking new things out. She was almost done with her ice cream when Lusie confessed that she needed to go to bed. Ashley smiled up at her, "No, I think I can find the way from here. Thanks though! It was nice running into you again." She waved as Lusie walked away, staring in to the fire for a few minutes while she finished the last of her ice cream before she set off. --- the end --- @lusie
