It was actually a surprise to Jess that she was just now meeting someone who was so similar to her, in personality and demeanor. She smiled as the girl asked when she graduated. “A little more than two years ago. You graduated this year, right?” That meant that they would have been in school together for about five years. How had they never run into one another there? Jess thought that they probably could have become friends much sooner if they had the opportunity. Apparently they did, but they just missed it.
She nodded as the other girl explained a bit more about her boyfriend, that he used to be in Hufflepuff before he transferred to Durmstrang, then came back for the Tournament. Jess thought it all sounded a bit complicated, but she didn’t say anything about that. She tried to think back and maybe remember this Brandon. “Was he always playing music when he was in school?” Jess asked, thinking she might remember the younger boy. Or maybe not. She knew there were a few boys at school that always seemed to be playing some instrument. One of them was probably Rosie’s boyfriend. Her eyes widened when Rosie explained a bit more about Brandon. “Waiting for studio time? Like, they’ve already decided they want him to record with them?” That was definitely cool. He must be pretty good if he was already getting a contract for his music. “Maybe I’ll have to go there to hear him play,” Jess mused, remembering the last time she went to the club and Fin got furious at her. Maybe if she went with Fin he wouldn’t mind as much … it was something to think on at least.
She rolled her eyes when Rosie said she was a boring person. Everyone thought that about themselves at one time or another, that didn’t mean it was true. She was about to jump in and say that when the girl added that she liked to travel and did so in America over the summer. “Oh, that sounds like so much fun! Did you go on your own? Where in America were you?” Jess wanted to visit the other country some time, mostly because she thought it would be fun to see something new. Maybe she could get Rosie to tell her some things she should do there or things to avoid. Not that she’d need help blending in, really. Being a muggleborn, Jess knew how to do things the muggle way when she had to. She just preferred using magic when possible.
Jess smiled as Rosie started to ask a bit more about her and Fin. “We met … a few months ago on the street actually,” she told the younger girls, chuckling a little. “It’s actually one of those super cheesy stories where I dropped my things like the klutz I am and Fin helped me pick everything up and bring it home. Then … we just kept on looking for reasons to see one another until we decided we should start dating.” Jess actually loved the story of how she and Fin met, though she was downplaying it right now. She felt so unbelievably lucky to be dating him, that he found her interesting at all. It almost seemed like a miracle. She shrugged as Rosie said she should try stuff like that. “Try it with your boyfriend. Fin always helps make sure I don’t fall when we dance,” she suggested with a smile. Her eyes widened at Rosie’s suggestion. “Oh yes!! That would be so much fun! We should definitely do it.” Jess would love an excuse to get to know Rosie better, and any reason to spend more time with Fin was a good thing.
