Continuation of...

In a huff, the professor had instructed Tobias to take Lusie to the hospital wing. Lusie carefully stood up and found her balance and allowed Tobias to escort her out. The entire exit of the greenhouse had been a blur. Lusie kept her hand on her arm as they made their way through the castle, getting obvious looks from people around them, which, she figured, was fair. She’d be looking at a student dripping blood from a gash down her arm, hurrying through the castle too. It still didn’t really hurt, but it started to get a little numb as they ventured through the castle. The princess hadn’t really spoken since they left, maybe a part of her was in shock? Though she was pleased to see that the plant at least hadn’t got Tobias, just herself. Minor damage, she decided.

Lusie had never been hurt like this before, she had fallen and scraped her knees before, she had twisted ankles and overworked wrists. She never had something happen in which blood literally dripped from her body. She wondered how deep the cut was. She didn’t think the thorns had been that large, but she had no idea. She tried not to think about it, but she wasn’t sure what else to think about.

They made it to the hospital wing and a nurse rushed over when she saw the blood, Lusie could imagine it was quite an alarming sight to see, a part of her wished she could see it for herself and see how bad it looked. It was amusing to her, almost. Or maybe she was just getting delirious. The nurse sat Lusie on a bed across the room and asked Toby to recount the events of what had happened while the nurse helped Lusie take off her school shirt to get a look at the actual gash.

The walk over to the hospital wing from the greenhouses was extremely awkward. Not only was every single passerby student staring at them.... It didn't help that the Ravenclaw didn't know what else to say other than a string of a million different renditions of 'I'm sorry's to Lusie that had probably annoyed her already. He felt an overwhelming guilt for everything because he told her he had her back when he...didn't. That was such a weird feeling... It wasn't on purpose though! That vine came out of thin air with a bloody vengeance. It was an attack. Tobias Watkins had underestimated the Snargaluff plant, which was his first problem. He felt like a complete failure.

The nurse ambushed the pair at the door immediately. Poor Lusie didn't look too good, which filled Toby with so much worry and remorse. He was at loss for words when the nurse asked him what happened. Freezing and turning away painfully politely when the school shirt was removed from Lusie. "D'ohh. Uh. We--uhh--I" he started sputtering words, but they didn't form any actual sentences. His mouth was kind of just gaped there before he had a sudden burst of adrenaline, or ~something, "The Snargaluff plant entangled Lusie out of nowhere. I thought I had it, but I didn't - and I am a terrible lab partner. I'm sorry!" he spoke quickly, towards the wall like a complete dork.

Then, the large hospital wing doors opened again, hasty footsteps approaching.

Edmund was having a fairly good day, all things considered. His classes were going quite well, he didn't have too much work to do and he was going to meet up with Addi later. What could possibly go wrong when it was all lined up so well? He definitely shouldn't have thought that.

He had a break between two of his classes and Ed decided to take a break from schoolwork by wandering the castle a bit. There were quite a few people out, which was a little annoying to him, but he was in a good mood so he didn't focus on it. At first, Edmund paid no attentions to the whispers he heard as he walked down the corridors, but as people noticed him, he heard them grow louder and louder. He was about to turn to someone and ask if they were trying to get his attention when he heard someone mention "blood". He rolled his eyes and continued walking until he heard something else. "Lusie Windsor."

Ed's heart almost stopped. He spun around, storming towards the girl who said his sister's name and demanding she tell him why she was talking about his sister. The girl was pale, obviously frightened as she mentioned that just a few minutes earlier her best friend saw a bloody Lusie heading to the hospital wing with a boy. Ed gave the girl a terse nod before marching down the corridor towards the hospital wing. No one stood in his way as he moved. 

Slamming the doors open, Ed's eyes searched the hospital wing. "What happened?" He demanded, heading straight for the boy. If his sister was bloody like the girl said, she probably had a bunch of healers around her. This guy was the only other person in the room, so he had to be the guy she spoke of. "Why is my sister in here?" His tone was harsh and angry, but Ed couldn't care less. He wanted answers.

The longer Lusie sat there, the more the pain started to set in. the nurse had got her shirt off and a Lusie sat there in her tank top, on the hospital bed, she looked down at her arm as the nurse moped up her blood and began to examine the wound. Tobias explained what had happened and Lusie nodded along. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault, it was an accident. You don't need to be sorry.” the Hufflepuff insisted sweetly, she was starting to feel a little light headed, maybe from the loss of blood, she wasn’t squeamish, but it was still quite uncomfortable to see her own blood. “I’m feeling quite light headed.” Lusie told the nurse, quietly, who nodded and left her for a moment to go grab a potion as the hospital wing doors opened.

Lusie hadn’t expected to see her brother in here, but in a dramatic style, he threw the doors open and marched over to the bed where she sat. A healer escorted the nurse back over to the bed, the nurse handed her the potion and instructed her to drink it to help her body produce blood more quickly to make up for the amount she had lost on the way over here. The healer examined her arm. “Ed? I’m fine, how did you know I was here?” she asked curiously. “Oh, no, don’t yell at Toby. It wasn’t his fault. We’re working with Snargaluff plants in herbology and I got too confident.” she tried to explain before the healer told her they were going to have to stitch the wound up before she lost more blood.

Toby couldn’t believe that all of this was actually happening. He wanted to be a Healer, as well as a Magiczoologist once he was finished with Hogwarts, so this should have been somewhere in his realm... Surprisingly enough, nothing bad had ever happened with any of the creatures or plants he had worked with until today. Somehow he always got out of it unscathed. When he was younger there was a humorous run in with the monster book of monsters, but the stoke of the spine was an easy solution for that. It was just yet another frantically dramatic display which embarrassed him quite a bit.

Toby wasn’t prepared for Lusies angry older brother to come flying through the doors. His neck snapped back as Edmund took hasty steps uncomfortably toward Toby. Already finding his dominating energy too much to handle in the intensity of the moment, he stepped back, more submissively, but his entire body tensed up as he just sort of blinked at the other boy as he digested the situation. Lusie sweetly tried to explain to her brother what happened and even that made Toby want to protest a bit, but he wasn’t about to throw himself under the bus with an angry snake in his face. Edmunds eyes hadn’t torn off of Toby since the moment he walked into the hospital wing. He didn’t even listen to Lusies explanation, so it was his turn now. Great.

Trying to appear even taller than he already was, he attempted to look at Edmund with the calmest expression that he could muster, but his heart was going a million miles a minute. His mouth gaped open, then slammed shut, before finally allowing the words to slowly flow out.  ”Uh—er—The Snargaluff is a man eating plant with pods that we had to extract from the stump. Uh—A vine caught Lusie and a thorn sliced her...so the venom is making her feel weird.” he explained awkwardly, trying to use the least amount of words possible because he knew he’d be a stuttering mess the longer he was making noise with his mouth.

Ed heard Lusie speaking from behind him and listened to what his sister was saying, but he didn't look away from the boy in front of him. If Ed was being completely honest with himself, he didn't fully trust his sister to answer him truthfully. Lusie would keep the worst of things from him to keep him from worrying and Ed didn't want to be coddled right now. He wanted the truth, so he was going to get it. He held up a finger in Lusie's directions. "I'll be there in a second, Lus," he told her, not acknowledging anything she said because he was still giving the guy in front of him his full attention. Ed wanted answers. At least Lusie was well enough to recognize that Ed was there. That had to be a good sign.

Toby, as Lusie called him, looked entirely frightened. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing, since scared people generally did whatever they could to stop bad things from happening. Hopefully that meant he would explain quickly. Ed was a little impressed when Toby stood up taller and then met his eyes. It took him a few tries of opening his mouth before he said anything, but Ed just watched patiently. Obviously the kid was nervous. Good. That meant he probably wouldn't lie, but Ed didn't need to make it worse. He listened as the guy started talking about a Snaraluff plant and how Lusie got sliced. "How did she get sliced? Weren't you supposed to be wearing protective gear?" he demanded, remembering when he had to do that same assignment a year previously. Really, Ed's temper was starting to simmer a bit, now that he knew it wasn't something very serious, but he still wanted the full story before he went to his sister's side. Hopefully she wouldn't be too annoyed at him for ignoring her earlier.

Edmund quieted her, insisting that he would be there in a second. The Hufflepuff’s mouth fell open and she spoke out, maybe in a bit of a muble: “Excuse me I am sitting right here, are you just going to continue having a confrontation about me with me sitting right here?” She found herself a little dumbfounded that her brother was yelling at her lap partner, who honestly wasn’t at fault for the accident. Tobias then said that the venom was making her feel weird. Venom? Lusie hadn’t considered venom. She hadn’t been bit by anything, was there venom in the thorns? Maybe that was what was making her feel faint, thought it made more sense to her that it was just from blood loss. “We were wearing gloves…” Lusie said in defeat, under her breath. The healer brought over a needle and began to stitch her arm.

This entire altercation sucked. Toby couldn't believe he had gotten himself into this mess. Herbology had always been one of his best subjects, but after today, he'd be dreading those greenhouses for a while. The Ravenclaw felt so guilty that Princess Lusie was hurt, now causing her angry brother to barge into the hospital wing and interrogate him forcefully about the incident.

Lusies voice broke the intensity. Thank Merlin for that. He nodded at her words, acknowledging what she had said by politely nodding, since she was a part of the conversation too. Edmund asked Toby about gloves, and Lusie answered him, growing more annoyed that her brother was ignoring her. Toby swallowed, taking a breath in to level his voice, "Yes, we were wearing gloves." Toby repeated after Lusie, answering Edmund firmly. Gloves should have been a given in Herbology, but he wasn't going to debate that at the moment. His lips formed a straight line, warm brown eyes meeting the Slytherins.  "We were almost finished extracting the pods when the Snargaluff got more agitated, we just weren't expecting it to grow another vine out of nowhere like that..." he told Edmund honestly, turning to Lusie to keep her a involved in the conversation, although she did have a healer tending to her wound at that moment.

Edmund heard Lusie arguing, obviously offended by him not turning to her immediately. He sighed and glanced over, forcing a smile despite the fact that his heart was still racing and all he wanted to do was figure out what happened. "Lus, please. I just need to know a bit more, okay?" His tone was definitively softer for his sister, but he couldn't help it. He didn't want to make her mad at him while he was just trying to take care of her. She had to understand that he needed the whole picture, didn't she? She knew him better than anyone, except maybe Addi. 

He turned back to the other boy quickly, his eyes hardening once he looked away from his sister. Edmund wasn't mad at this guy, but he wanted more of the story and he had a feeling the guy could give him more. To his annoyance, his sister answered his question before Toby did. He glared a little, which might have led to the guy giving him a little more information. Finally. Ed nodded as he explained that they were almost done when the plant grew an extra vine, his eyes softening a little. He nodded before muttering, "Thank you. Sorry, I," Ed lowered his voice as he glanced over at Lusie before looking back to the boy, "I lose my mind when things happen to her," he admitted. Ed wasn't proud of it, but he was proud of how much he cared for his sister. He nodded again before turning to Lusie, who was being stitched up. 

"So how're you feeling, invalid," he teased his sister, trying to make the situation a little lighter. Hopefully she wasn't still angry at him. He stepped up closer, staying out of the way of the healer, but also leaving a spot so Toby could stay if he wanted. A moment later, the healer stepped away and nodded to Ed. He stepped forward, looking at her arm. "It doesn't look too bad." Then he glanced at Toby. "What kinds of effects can the venom have?" he asked curiously, sure that the healers had it under control, but also figuring the Ravenclaw would know. His scarf gave his house away easily.

“I was trying to explain it to you…” Lusie said again when Ed explained that he just needed to know a bit more. She would have thought he would want to hear it from the person who had been involved the most, but for some reason he seemed to really want to blame her partner, who’s fault it really wasn’t. She had got too confident and hadn’t been watching out like she should have been. He seemed to have gotten all the information that he wanted out of the poor Ravenclaw boy and apologized, saying that he got crazy when things happened to Lusie. Then, her brother turned to her and asked how she was doing. “Oh? Are you talking to me now?” the Hufflepuff grumbled a bit. If she didn’t have a healer currently sewing up her arm, she would have crossed her arms and looked away dramatically. “The venom just brings the pain, and if not taken care of, will lead to the rapid spreading of infection - but the potion we gave her should take care of all that.” the healer said as she finished up with her arm, which was entirely numb so she hadn’t felt the needle go in and out. Maybe another side effect of the potion. “See Edmund, you should be thanking this young man, if it weren’t for him bringing me here so quickly, I could be in more pain and have an infection.”

Tobys mouth opened to answer the Slytherins question about the venom mingling in Lusie’s system, but the school Healer answered. It was reassuring to hear from the adult that the princess was going to be okay, she was going to live another day with a pretty cool battle scar. When Lusie gave her brother a bit of sass for finally talking to her, Toby had to stifle a laugh, mainly because he didn’t want to disrespect Edmund. But he truly thought Lusies sass was adorably hilarious. His younger sister Claudia often gave him his fair share of sisterly sass.

Ed apologized to Toby, which caused the Ravenclaw to dismiss it with a wave of the hand. “No, it’s no big deal, really, it’s okay.” Toby insisted quickly, but politely. “I have three younger sisters of my own, so I understand how much pressure it can be trying to always look after them. It drives me bloody mad sometimes. You’re just being a good big bro, mate.” he shared in a more friendly, easy going tone. Which was much easier now that he didn’t feel like Edmund was going to punch him for hurting his dear sister.

Toby turned to Lusie, gesturing to the wound that had been sealed up with stitches moments prior, ”How are you feeling, Lusie?” He asked the Hufflepuff, cocking his head to the side. She would be sick and tired of being asked that very soon. “If that scars, at least you’ll have a cool story.” he declared in an awkward jest. Always trying to look at the bright side, or humor, in situations.

Lusie was being difficult. Edmund nodded, but didn't say anything at her comment about trying to explain it to him. The thing was, he didn't want to have to tell her that he was worried she'd try and soften it up for him. He didn't want to make her more upset right now, though he was sure that he was going to do that somehow in the next few minutes if he hadn't already. When he turned back to Lusie, it was obvious he had upset her though. She asked if he was talking to her and Ed rolled his eyes. "Come on, Lus," he mumbled back in a pleading tone. He didn't want her to be mad at him; he was worried about her. 

The healer told him what was going on and that she should be fine and have no further complications because of the venom. Everything should be just fine, which was a bigger relief that Edmund could express. He could just imagine how ticked Will would be if Lusie got hurt on his watch, not that he was ever planning on his older brother find out about that. He apologized to Toby, who told him it was no big deal and that he understood what it was like to have younger sisters. "You do? Thanks, I'm glad you understand," Edmund answered, smiling. Then he looked over at his sister, smiling patiently when she told him that he needed to thank Toby. 

He turned back to the other guy, mostly to put his sister at ease. "Thank you for bringing my sister here quickly. I'm really grateful that you took care of her." The thing was, Ed actually did mean it. He didn't want to make the guy feel bad after he did all that to help Lusie. He watched as Toby turned to Lusie, asked about how she was feeling, grimacing when she mentioned it being a cool story if it scarred. "I really hope it doesn't scar," he threw in, thinking of Will finding out after seeing a scar.

It seemed that Edmund and Toby were making nice and Lusie was glad to see that they were no longer at each other's throats. Toby told Edmund that he also had younger sisters and that seemed to put Ed at ease more. Lusie felt more at ease now that her brother was… or maybe it was because the potion was putting her more at ease. She hadn’t asked what it did before they gave it to her, she just trusted that they knew how to do their jobs. Ed even apologized to Toby and thanks him like Lusie had suggested that he should. She almost couldn’t believe her ears. But she smiled at the two as they interacted. Toby turned to Lusie and asked how she was feeling before saying that if it scared, at least it would be cool. Ed interjected that he hoped that it didn’t scar. In a way, she hoped that it didn’t scar too, she didn’t want to have to explain to the entirely world that she got caught on a plant at her weird boarding school that no one ever talked about. “If it does, I’ll probably just wear long sleeves for the rest of my life.” Lusie said with a giggle. She was feeling very...happy? She more than figured that was due to the potion.

Since Edmund had seemed to cool down a bit, Toby was starting to feel a lot more comfortable. The over compensated gratitude wasn’t really needed though, he was honestly happy to help, still a little guilty about he incident since he still felt like it was his fault. But he was glad it ended smoothly. ”No, it’s honestly okay. I’m just glad Lusies okay. ” Toby said honestly to Edmund before awkwardly extending a hand toward the other boy, ”My name is Toby Watkins, by the way. ” he finally introduced himself formally, feeling a bit rude he didn’t do that first hand.

Toby turned to Lusie with a slight frown when she dramatically said that she would wear sleeves for the rest of her life if the wound scarred. His eyebrows threaded at the center of this forehead with an amused expression, because she suddenly looked very happy, ”You.. okay?” he asked with a snort, taking a step toward her just in case if she were to suddenly fall over, but not ~too close, that’s what her brother was for. He was just trying to show that he was responsible and aware of the situation. Toby observed Lusie for a moment, noting the giddiness that suddenly appeared to be overflowing from the petite girl. ”Does that potion have you feelin’ good, Lusie?” He asked, warm brown eyes watching the girl intently with an obvious smile.

Okay, so this guy didn’t seem so bad after all. He took Edmund’s apology well, saying that he was happy Lusie was okay. “Me too,” Ed nodded and smiled just a little bit, glad that he’d found an ally in that. He might not know this guy very well, but it was obvious Lusie trusted him and her trust meant something to Ed, whether or not he let most people know it. “Edmund Windsor,” Ed answered when Toby introduced himself, chuckling softly. That was probably obvious by now, but whatever. “Nice to meet you, now that I’ve calmed down a bit,” he added, making fun of himself a little. What? Ed didn’t always have to be a jerk, no matter what other people thought of him.

Lusie was obviously not upset at him anymore, smiling as she saw Edmund soften up with the younger boy. Good. Ed didn’t want to make her upset right not, really ever, but he wasn’t going to let her know that. His job as an older brother was to aggravate her sometimes, especially when it was for her own good, like this was. He watched her carefully, waiting to see how she answered Toby’s question about how she was feeling, but then she started to giggle, saying that she would wear long sleeves for the rest of her life if it did scar. He made a face at her words, but even more so at the way she was behaving. That potion … it seemed like it took away the pain, but that didn’t mean it was a good thing. He shook his head, “Yeah, that’s easy to say now, Lus. Wait until you have to go to a garden party in the summer in long sleeves,” he teased, unable to help himself.

He watched as Toby stepped closer to her, almost as if to protect her. Ed nodded to him, all right now with the fact that the other guy wanted to make sure she was stable and wouldn’t hurt herself. At least Toby seemed to know her well enough to know that was a possibility. Surprising, Ed was liking this guy more and more. “I’d say a little more than good,” he muttered to Toby, smirking as he watched the other boy looking at his sister. Huh. Normally he’d punch someone that smiled at his sister like that … but he didn’t want to right now. He would probably look for the guy some other time though, see what he actually thought about Lusie.
