Ashley watched Joe, waiting nervously for him to answer her question. She knew that Joe didn't know everything about the situation with her and Eli- she hadn't told him about it- but his opinion still really mattered to her. She nodded as he answered her, saying that she meant something to Eli. Ashley smiled, "I ... thanks Joe," she said, feeling more built up than she had in a while. Joe didn't tell her that she didn't break Eli's heart like she wanted him to, but what he said was just as comforting to her. "And thanks for not freaking out about it. It's a lot easier when I don't have to keep things from you," she smiled, liking the fact that she felt like she could talk to Joe about this.
Pulling back from the hug, Ashley was glad when Joe said that he was happy she was doing better. "Thanks Joe. I'm glad that you're there for me. You know I'm here for you too, right?" She glanced over, sure that he was paying attention but also wanting to make sure that he was. She frowned when he said that he was 'meh'. That meant ... Joe was really having a hard time here. "I'm sorry Joe. Are you making any new friends or anyone?" Though she did smirk a little when he said he had to study now. "You know ... maybe your seventh year at Ilvermorny would have been just as difficult and you would have started needing to study there too." Ashley wasn't trying to disregard her brother's feelings, but she didn't want him to hate his entire last year at Hogwarts. "Is there anything you like about Hogwarts?"

Joe could tell that Ashley was somewhat taken aback by how calm he was during this entire conversation. She even made a comment about how thankful she was about the situation. "I'm working on it Ash." he breathed with a nod, a smile creeping onto his face, "I'm glad you can too. I can't promise not to go after anyone if they make you all sad girl again though." he told her, not joking there. But that was expected from Joe. He had always been fiercely protective of those he cared about, to the point where he had potentially embarrassed himself in the past. Which was why he was working on it. Ashley genuinely seemed curious about his life right now, which was somewhat a surprise to Joe. A part of him didn't want to mess this up. It wasn't often that they would share personal information of this nature, but maybe this was a new level to their relationship. Maybe that was bound to happen when they were forced to move over 3,211 miles away from home, or, 'across the pond' as people here liked to stupidly say. This year Joe could feel himself growing mentally and physically. He was striving to be more mindful with his words and hold his tongue, choosing his battles had worked a lot for him. Keeping his head low wasn't easy, but he figured the more he did it, the easier it would become. When Ashley asked him if he made any new friends, "Yeah, I've made some friends. " Joe shrugged, making friends was never hard for him, creating the meaningful relationships is what he struggled with. She seemed to find amusement out of him studying. He was a horned serpent at Ilvermorny, which was considered the 'smart' house. Probably because he liked learning and philosophy, unfortunately, he was just a horrible test taker and couldn't retain the information if he didn't care about it. His lips tugged downwards, eyebrows furrowing, "Shut up, you have always been a nerd so school is easy for you." Joe accused dramatically, but meant to be taken as a joke. He laughed at her asking him what he liked about Hogwarts, obviously not taking her too seriously in that moment. "I like that there are more cute girls here.." he quipped, smirking at her. In that moment, he mentally tried to list the things he liked at Hogwarts, and it was sadly very short. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

It was like Ashley and Joe were reaching a new point in their relationship. Ash always thought of herself as being quite close to Joe. She told him almost everything, basically everything except information that had to do with guys. However, if this was the kind of reaction he would give her, she'd start telling him more. She loved her brother and truly wanted him to be involved in her life and know about the things that were going on with her. She nodded when he said that he was working on it, but immediately started to shake her head as he continued. "Ah, and that's why I haven't given you any names yet," she told him with a smirk. "I'll entrust names to you when I think you can handle it." She leaned over and nudged his shoulder, feeling entirely relaxed and comfortable, which was definitely a nice feeling. Very different from how she'd felt just before Joe joined her.
Ash smiled when her brother admitted that he'd made friends. She wanted to push a little more, find out if there was anyone catching his eye here. She hesitated, not wanting to break the moment, but then decided to go for it. "Are there any of them that you might want as more than a friend?" Ash asked, offering a sweet and innocent smile. She wasn't asking because she wanted to make fun of him. In all honesty, they'd never talked about something like this before and she was asking because she finally felt like she could. The way this conversation seemed to be going, it felt like nothing was taboo, which she really appreciated.
Joe frowned then, teasing her about being a nerd. Ashley widened her eyes dramatically, "Me, a nerd?! No one but you would ever call me that," she shot right back. It was true. Most people didn't know how much she cared about her grades and how hard she worked to do well. It wasn't that school was hard, but Ashley didn't want to simply pass. She wanted to be the best, so she worked for it. That didn't mean she was the best, but she studied like she was. Mostly other people just thought of one of those girls who only cared about the way she looked. To be fair to them, Ashley absolutely did care about her clothes and hair and all, that just wasn't her only personality trait. Her eyes glittered as he mentioned cute girls. "Ooooh cute girls? Have you been reaching out to them?" she smirked, knowing that any "reaching out" on Joe's part would most definitely be flirting. She was curious to see how much he'd tell her about this sort of thing.

Joe scoffed at Ashley when she said that she wouldn't entrust him with any names yet, because of his last comment, but mostly because of his bad track record in the past. Joe shrugged, "You already know I will figure it out soon enough sweet lil ol' sister of mine." he animatedly cooed into her face, tapping her nose, more to be annoying brother. Joe wasn't joking there, because he had his sources. But he didn't really care about that right now, honestly. He was more relieved that they had rectified the situation as soon as things started to get tense. Which was a good indicator that they were truly growing up. Joe could really feel it this year. It was becoming easier to pick and choose his battles, although he still had his fair share of bumping heads with people, or generally just not liking someone for no reason. Slowly, he was learning that the mature thing to do was just ignore those people. Surprisingly, pretending like they didn't exist very gratifying. Ashley disagreed with the dork comment and he snorted, "I would, so there's one." he quipped, a playful flicker in his eye. He was actually very proud of his sister for her smarts, it was just fun to give her grief for it since no one else ever would. Cocking his head to the side, Joe rolled his eyes at her sudden interest with his love life. Well, if she wasn't going to share the nitty gritty, such as names, he wouldn't either. Not that he was dating anyone, or even seriously looking to. There was girls that he liked, and flirted with, but he didn't really have anyone who he would want as a significant other. At least, not that he ~knew of. One girl that came to mind was Kinsey, but she was too conflicted. Deep down, he knew that nothing would come out of that, but he truly liked her company and found her attractive. So he could play that one by ear. Then, there was the random girls he'd snog, but he'd stick to the same girls. Bianca being one of them, but he knew that if Ashley ever found out about that she'd be really pissed, so he never mentioned that to her. "Eh." he lied, shrugging again to feign a nonchalant confidence. "There is one girl that I may or may not be interested in, but she's just...she has issues." Joe said, not meaning it harshly, but it could definitely come across that way. Since Ash wouldn't share names, he'd be very vague, in attempt to pique interest. Girls loved talking about other girls, right? MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Ashley shrugged back at Joe when he teased her about figuring it out eventually. "Yeah, but that probably won't happen until I want it to," she answered sweetly, smiling at her brother patiently, even when he tapped her on the nose. She knew from experience that one of the best ways to get to him was by refusing to let him get to her and she had every intention of doing that. She frowned ever so slightly, "Will you just promise not to hurt him? I don't even know if he likes me back, Joe." That was the crux of the matter. Ashley totally already fell for the sweet dork of a Hufflepuff, but she didn't want Joe to think that Eli liked her back when she didn't even know. "He might just like me as a friend," she added, trying to read her brother's expressions.
She rolled her eyes, "I already said you don't count." It was basically Joe's job to tease her, so she wasn't going to get too caught up in what he said. At least, she was going to try not to get too caught up in it. Joe did have a way of pushing her buttons, but today she found she wasn't as annoyed by him.
It took Joe a few seconds to say anything and Ashley watched him carefully, quirking an eyebrow at him as he spoke. "One you may or may not be interested in? Are you possibly not interested because of her issues? What kinds of issues?" Ashley wanted to know what kinds of girls her brother was interested in here. Then she smirked, "Is she American or are you starting to fall for one of those Brits?" Hopefully teasing him would get Joe to say a little more. Ash wanted him to share with her too.

"I promise not to beat anyone up unless if they give me a reason to." he told her firmly, almost comical with how serious the look on his face was. He took this big brother business very seriously. If anyone hurt Ashley he would give them a reason to cry. Joe smiled at his sister, locking her head in the nook of his arm for a headlock but releasing after a second. Only because he knew any longer would piss her off. "I only do it because I love you sis." he declared obnoxiously, but the statement was genuine. When Ashley asked a bit further about the girl. Who happened to be Kinsey. He sighed, the look on his face almost annoyed. Usually he didn't like to share these things, but since Ashley shared something juicy with him, it would only be fair. Especially if he wanted any more information in the future. This could be a good lead. Joe considered what he wanted to tell her. She definitely wouldn't be getting any names today, he didn't need his little sister going up to Kinsey and embarrassing him out of vengeance for something random. "Yes. She's a Brit." he snorted, "I can't resist those accents, ya know?" Joe rolled his eyes to the back of his skull. They actually were kind of nice now that he was getting more used to them. "She's got issues because she is still in love with some dude who is engaged to be married." he shrugged surprisingly nonchalant for the severity of the situation. "So, uh, yeah, that's what I'm workin' with there. That's going nowhere, which is for the best anyways." he stated with a lack of emotion. Joe wasn't really sure what he wanted. There were people that he really connected with, but he wasn't looking to tying himself down to anything anytime soon unless if it happened to be someone amazing. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 My code here:

Ashley couldn't help but smile at Joe when he promised. "Thanks," she answered, a little surprised that he would make such a promise. She knew that Joe didn't like seeing her with other guys, but maybe this meant that they were maturing a bit. That he understood she was bound to like guys and was respecting that decision. She appreciated that. She hesitated, about to tell Joe who it was that she cared about, when he pulled her close into a headlock. Ashley fought against it for a moment, but he didn't hold her there long. Good. Joe knew her well. "Yeah, I know, I know," she whined back at him, even though she knew he was serious. Joe would always be there for her if she needed him.
There was an unmistakable annoyed look on Joe's face when she asked more about the person he was talking about and Ashley lifted an eyebrow, though she didn't say anything yet. Really? She just opened up to him and he wasn't going to say anything. Still, Ashley waited, deciding to give him a chance and then smiling a little when he started sharing. She laughed when Joe said he couldn't resist the accents, "Apparently not, since you seem to want to join them," she teased back, liking the lighthearted feeling. Yeah, that didn't last long. Ash's eyebrows furrowed as he explained that the girl was in love with an engaged guy. "Wait, they get engaged while they're still in school?" she asked, her nose all wrinkled in disgust. Couldn't they just wait until graduation? It wasn't like they needed to rush to get married. "So ... are you just trying to be a friend for her then?" Ashley asked curiously, unable to hold the question back. She wanted to know!

"Since you were open with me, I won't mess with him, okay?" he reassured her, trying to keep the mature attitude. Joe and Ashley had made great progress this year after moving abroad for school. He was relieved to have her at the school with him whether he let her know that or not. She was a reminder of home. He loved Ashley, all he wanted was what was best for her, and to piss her off every so often. Yin Yang. Joe snorted and nodded at Ashley's reaction to people getting married while they were still in school. That was freaking weird. Joe was glad his parents weren't traditional, although he did feel like he was better than everyone else having Pureblood. "Yes, while they're still in school... It's some weird Pureblood Elitist shit, really. They do a lot of things different here." he stated, lifting his shoulders for a lazy shrug. Joe scoffed when Ashley asked if he wanted to be 'just friends' with the girl. He didn't really want to talk about Kinsey, he was constantly trying to keep up that guard. "Yeah, she's just a friend. Only will ever be that." he told the blonde, already knowing that he was probably being too vague for his sisters liking. "She has been helping me with my Arithmancy homework, and with some other stuff." Joe shared, before nudging his sister in the side. "All of this talk is making me hungry, you want me to make you something?"[now we can close this old one haha] MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Ashley smiled, more sincerely, when Joe came outright and said that he wouldn't mess with the guy she liked. Good! Maybe that would make it easier for her to find the guts to tell him it was Eli ... but not today. That would be a conversation for another day. "Thank you Joe. That means a lot to me," she said, leaning forward and giving him a hug. She loved doing things with her older brother. He was so much fun and, honestly, was just so good for her. She was liking that this year they seemed to be able to talk about real things more, instead of just always teasing one another. Joe confirmed that they were engaged while being in school and Ashley couldn't help but wrinkle her nose as she made a face. "That's just weird," she agreed. "I can't imagine being engaged while going to school, much less having to get married right after graduating. I'd want to try things out on my own before getting involved with someone that seriously." Eli flitted to her mind. If he wanted to be with her after graduation ... she probably wouldn't want anyone else, but that was over a year away and she doubted he would want to wait for her. He didn't even want to be with her now, what the heck was she thinking about?! Ashley nodded slowly as Joe said that the girl was just a friend and that's all she would ever be. Ashley wasn't too surprised. She knew that Joe liked to flirt a lot and have fun with girls, but she'd only really seen him serious with one girl before and even that hadn't lasted super long. She wouldn't push him into saying anything else. "Ooooh, so she's smart. Way to find someone who can help you out," she teased, nudging his shoulder right before he nudged her and started teasing her. Ashley laughed, "Of course! It's been way too long since you've cooked for me! Let's go!" She started walking toward the castle, excited at the idea of Joe's food. --- the end --- @joseph
