Joe was bored. It was the weekend, but much to his dismay, not a 'Hogsmeade Weekend', so he was confined to the castle. He didn't understand why students weren't free to go to the village every weekend at their own will, it was stupid, this school was stupid. Joe felt like he was suffocating every minute he was at Hogwarts.
The snake was crossing the courtyard in pursuit of the dungeons to see if anyone was in the kitchens. He knew to expect the typical house elves, but today he was bored enough where he'd take the company if it wasn't anyone annoying - or ugly. As Joe crossed a line of stone benches, he saw Kinsey in the courtyard on one of the said benches, who hadn't spotted him incoming yet...she was too focused on something else. When Joe cocked his head to look in the direction she was staring so entrancingly, it was obvious. Riley-frickin-Fudge. Of course. Without saying a word, Joe sat directly next to her so that they were smushed side to side. He displayed the most charming smile he could muster, accompanied by a trademark eyebrow waggle. "Hey kitten, whatcha doin'?" he asked curiously, a knowing look slowly forming on his face, but he wasn't going to say it out loud.

This was not a good weekend for Kinsey. At least, not particularly. It wasn't a Hogsmeade weekend and she had all her homework done early. The Gryffindors were on the Quidditch Pitch, so she couldn't go there and fly. Basically, it was like everything she tried to do didn't work out. She needed to come up with something to do outside of the school so after a while, Kinsey went outside. She stopped at the Courtyard, sitting down and glancing around when she saw Riley and Priscilla across the lawn. Kinsey couldn't see what they were doing exactly, but she couldn't seem to pull her gaze away from Riley. Of course, he had no reason to think she was here. She should leave. She should get up and go somewhere else.
Kinsey was thinking this repeatedly to herself when suddenly someone was sitting right next to her. She could feel the warmth just as she heard the familiar voice, calling her kitten. Blushing furiously, she nudged him with her shoulder, "Joe, don't," she whined, wishing she could make her cheeks go back to their normal color. "Anyone could hear you and I am not a kitten!" She didn't want to answer his question, however. She could tell by the look on his face that he knew exactly what she was doing. She glanced down to her feet, shrugging her shoulders, "Nothing," Kinsey answered in a whisper, knowing that he wouldn't believe her. She wouldn't say it though, Kinsey didn't want to.

Joe ignored her protest against the nickname kitten, noting the blood rushing to her cheeks. That was exactly why he did it. She made this so easy sometimes. Joe just smiled, shrugging his shoulders, pretending to play dumb. He wasn’t trying to get to her to fess up to staring at Riley anyways, it was the awkward display in between that made him do it.
”Perfect.” he told her, playfully insinuating that he was calling her perfect. He quirked an eyebrow at her, ”You in a trifle kinda mood?” Joe asked her with a hopeful smile, before continuing, ”I’m bored and itching to cook, will you accompany me?” The snake inquired, already looking like he wouldn’t take no for an answer. Joe swiftly stood from the bench and reached for her hand to tug her upwards to her feet.

Joe didn’t say anything else about calling her kitten, which was a bit of a relief to Kinsey, though a part of her wanted him to agree he wouldn’t call her that anymore. Then again, she already knew him well enough to know that wasn’t even close to a possibility. He liked teasing her and making her blush, though she didn’t know why that was so entertaining to him. Maybe somehow he sensed that she actually liked his teasing; well, she liked some of it … she was starting to warm up to him calling her kitten, but she’d never admit it.
She rolled her eyes when he said perfect, knowing from his tone that he wasn’t just saying it was perfect that she wasn’t doing anything. At his next question, Kinsey couldn’t help but grin. “Joe, something you should definitely know about me is that I’m always in the mood for trifle.” She didn’t get it half as often as she wanted, but she would always have some if given the chance.
In a moment of daring, Kinsey decided to try her hand at teasing Joe. “Wait. You mean I get to actually see you in a kitchen? I feel so honored,” she teased, not fighting him when he took her hand and pulled her to her feet. She laughed, thinking that she was being clever and then waved her free hand at him. “Lead on, Joe,” she encouraged. Kinsey didn’t know quite why she was in such a playful mood, though in all actuality it was partly due to the fact that Joe was distracting her from watching Riley, promising her a fun afternoon and she was more relieved by that than she expected to be.

"Consider yourself lucky." he winked, a cocky air about him as he puffed his chest out. Joe actually knew what he was doing in the kitchen so this would be a cake walk. It was rare that he used the baking skills to charm a girl, but Kinsey kind of needed it, and he kind of liked the girl so it wasn't going to waste.
When Kinsey stood, Joe held her hand for a moment longer than appropriate, the wave of her free hand telling him to 'lead on' being the determining factor. That was funny. She was already quick to be playful, so that showed that the shy Ravenclaw was getting more comfortable around him. "Perfect, I will be sure to write that down for my 'Book of Kinsey'." he joked playfully, always trying to up the annoying flirtatiousness. The sillier, the more it made her chuckle at him. He pretended to be digesting the mental note with a thoughtful look, "Will do sketchy things for trifle." he mused with a smirk, nodding his head at her with an eyebrow waggle. Joe would be sure to remember however she preferred trifle today, so he could surprise her with it one day. They started toward the kitchens, walking side by side, "Just one thing, you just have to promise not to start falling in love with me once you see me in action.' he stated with a jest so serious, and so obnoxiously flirty, that it couldn't be taken any other way than jokingly; sealing it with a shameless eyebrow waggle.

Joe teased her back, winking and Kinsey smiled back, shrugging a shoulder at him. "How do you know I don't?" She was joking, but at the same time she wasn't. Joe was there for her. He was being a good friend, pulling her away from staring at Riley. He was trying to help her and she appreciated it. "I just hope your skills in the kitchen can actually compare with how good you make yourself sound," Kinsey added, trying to make it less serious. She didn't want him to take her words too seriously, after all.
Kinsey could tell that Joe was at least a little amused by her behavior right now, and she was glad. She didn't want him to think she was some quiet girl who was always super serious. She could have fun. She wanted to. He answered, saying that he would write that in his "Book of Kinsey" and she rolled her eyes, "Yeah, cause that's a thing," she muttered sarcastically. There was no way Joe was making a book about her; he was just a tease. Her jaw dropped when he commented that she'd do sketchy things for trifle and she turned, smacking his shoulder to try and hide her blush. "Sketchy things?! What in the world do you mean by that? I-I never said that!" Of course, Joe knew that. He was probably trying to get this kind of a reaction out of her, but Kinsey couldn't help herself. What if someone else heard him say that? She glanced around, but no one was paying them any attention. "You ..." she trailed off, shaking her head at him and trying not to smile. She shouldn't encourage him. She laughed at his next comment, not taking him serious at all. "I don't know what you're talking about. Aren't I the one doing the teaching today? I think you should promise to not fall in love with me when you see me cooking." Kinsey chuckled, thinking she was being pretty clever. He probably would do more of the cooking tonight, but technically it was her turn so she could say that.

Joe was taken aback slightly by Kinsey's sweet words. He wasn't sure if that was her way of flirting, or if she truly did consider herself 'lucky', but it was cute. Especially that wink. "Ooo! I love it when you wink at me!" He gushed in a joyful giddiness that was all meant for comedic effect. He was glad thats she was getting used to him. Joe offered Kinsey a soft smile and curt nod to seal the deal. Always looking for any moment to flirt with back her. "I'm always open for criticism...in the kitchen and on the pitch. Because I know I'm all that and a bag of chips" he gave Kinsey a sassy head bob, paired with a snap, that Joe could somehow get away with doing. "I learned that you guys call those 'crisps' here." he mused out loud with a thoughtful nod.
Kinsey denied the sketchy behavior for trifle and Joe raised his shoulders up and down lazily, rolling his eyes when she asked him what he meant about such things, "Mmm, I dunno, you're the one doin' sketchy things for trifle. You tell me." he told her, green eyes narrowing at her in suspicious jest. She was incredibly fun to make faces at. Mostly for reactions. He learned that in class while the professor was talking across the room, he'd make the most ridiculous faces at her to make her laugh while the teacher was talking.
When Kinsey retorted that he should be the one worried about falling in love with her since she was really the one teaching him tonight, he cocked his head to the side with a smirk, "Well...I can't make any promises there, Kinsey, because I'd already be breaking it. " he said smoothly, offering her the most charming smile her could muster, already staring at her lips.

Kinsey blushed, embarrassed when Joe commented on the fact that she’d winked at him. She honestly didn’t think he’d made a big deal out of it, but he was. She ducked her head, trying to hide her blushing from him, but she knew there was basically no point. It was almost like Joe could sense when he embarrassed her, he seemed to search for it sometimes. Kinsey couldn’t help but wonder if that was entirely for her benefit, or if he tried to embarrass others as well. However, Joe pulled her attention back to him when he said he knew he was all that, snapping as he did so. Kinsey tried to hold in her reaction, not wanting to encourage him, but his snapping put her over the edge and she started giggling. “You’re comparing yourself to food now? How hungry are you?” Kinsey teased, unable to resist the temptation to tease him.
Joe continued to tease her for doing sketchy things for trifle, looking at her like she didn’t believe her. He had to be teasing her, didn’t he? Kinsey shook her head again, trying not to blush, but it wasn’t really something she could control. “I am not! I don’t do sketchy things at all, unless you’re saying me going with you to the kitchens is sketchy. Maybe we’d better do something else …” she argued, trying to turn it back on him somehow.
He didn’t even need to say something. The smirk that crossed his face when he looked back at her made Kinsey start blushing all on its own. What was he going to say? As his words actually registered, her jaw dropped. Moments later her mouth started forming words, but no sound came. She couldn’t actually come up with anything to say to that! She swallowed, blushing furiously when she realized that he was looking at her lips. He was … no, he didn’t mean what he was saying. He couldn’t! She stared into his eyes, trying to come up with something to distract him, but he was obviously not meeting her eyes. She glanced down at his own lips for a fraction of a second before turning her head and looking away from him entirely. What was going on? “You’re such a tease, Joe,” Kinsey finally forced out, her voice breathless. She couldn’t look at him anymore. Not right now. Not if she wanted to keep a semblance of her composure

”Maybe a little hungry...so move faster.” he snapped jokingly, pulling her toward the kitchens by the arm playfully. It was fun to play with her because she almost always played along with him. Joe appreciated that. Kinsey was shy, but she liked to have a good time. He learned that the first day they met.
When Kinsey argued the sketchy talk, his eyes widened, ”That’s something a sketchy person would say...” he sang, narrowing his eyebrows at her with suspicion. But he was over that... because he was staring at her lips now. Marinating in her blushing cheeks.
Kinsey called Joe a tease, causing him to cock his head to the side with a bit of mock offense at the name calling . ”What makes you assume that?” he asked her, moving his eyes from her lips, to her eyes, back to her luscious lips again. Joe bit down on his lip hard, offering the girl a slightly challenging look. ”It’s not teasing if I would really do it....” he corrected her, coolly and calmly, puffing out his chest a bit with confidence. ”I just don’t want to freak you out....” he admitted out loud, green eyes flickering with amusement. Joe truly meant it though. He cleared his throat as they stood in front of the painting, where he tickled the pear promptly. The doors to the kitchens opened and he was happy to see that they were currently empty.

Joe told her that she needed to move faster, pulling her down the corridor a bit. She chuckled, knowing that he was teasing her, but still finding it funny. "Joe, you're pulling my arm off," she whined, moving more slowly just to tease him back. Kinsey couldn't help it, but after a moment she sped up, giggling as she moved closer to him.
Kinsey wanted to argue with him about her being sketchy, despite the fact that she was certain he was teasing her, but she got distracted when she noticed him staring at her lips. She wanted to tell him to stop, but she couldn't get the words to come. She couldn't stop the blushing either.
He was talking again and Kinsey didn't want to be looking at him because she was sure that he would be teasing her again, but when Joe's words registered she couldn't help it. She turned immediately to look at him, her mouth dropping open again. He kept looking at her lips and Kinsey couldn't stop the raging blush. "Joe," she whined, unable to help herself. Then he mentioned that it wasn't teasing if he would actually do it. Her eyes widened and she stared at him, not even moving anymore. She saw him opening the doors to the kitchen and she couldn't convince herself to move. She was still staring at Joe.
Then, in a second, she found herself snapping out of it. "Anyway ... trifle!" Kinsey exclaimed, moving past him and into the kitchens. "Hi friends," she said to the house elves, pretending like she was on her own and not strangely focused on the guy behind her. "Can we use one of your counters?" she asked, studiously avoiding looking at Joe. They led her over to an empty counter and Kinsey smiled. "Okay, you ready Joe?" She looked over to him finally, unable to stop her cheeks from turning red yet again. Blast it all.

Joe was fully aware that he was going a little overboard with the flirting today with the Ravenclaw girl. It was all a part of the 'distraction', but he was having a lot of fun with it. The look on Kinseys face was just too good, and made it very apparent that everything he was doing was working. She was actually speechless, frozen in her footsteps at the entrance of the kitchens with the most adorable look on her face. It was so cute. He stepped in first, and calmly whispered, "Sorry, apparently you're not too used to the forwardness.." A light chuckle escaped his lips, unsure if she actually heard him or not. It didn't really matter, he wasn't really apologizing sincerely. This wasn't the end.
Kinsey walked past Joe as they stepped into the kitchens, pretending like he wasn't there, probably to get her wits together as she spoke to the house elves. Joe gave the elves a curt nod and greeting as an acknowledgement. The elves already knew him, and they were aware that he didn't usually liked to be bothered, but he never left a mess. Because a good chef always cleaned as they worked.
Joe followed Kinsey to the free counter top and stepped beside her at the counter. "Born ready." he winked, very sure of himself. The corners of his lips turned upwards as his green eyes flickered over her face, "Please, go on, take the lead..." Joe waved along, leaning against the countertop leisurely as he encouraged her. Before helpfully inquiring, "What kind of prep does trifle require?"

Kinsey would have laughed when he apologized about being so forward, if she could have forced any sound to come out. Yeah, right! He was having so much fun teasing her, he'd probably do this whenever he got the chance. Oddly, she felt a bit okay with that. Besides the fact that Kinsey honestly had no idea how to handle Joe or figure out how to respond to him when he was being so flirtatious. It was probably better if he thought she hadn't heard him or something.
She didn't even know if he followed her into the kitchens until she turned around and saw him standing next to her beside the counter. All right. There he was, with her, saying he was born ready and then encouraging her to take the lead. Kinsey rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. First we need to make a sponge. A light, airy vanilla one." She glanced over at Joe, smirking. "Do you know one off the top of your head? Mum and I normally end up just buying one because we're lazy, but since you're such a good cook ..." She trailed off suggestively, totally willing to let him cook the cake part. "Other than that we need jell-o, strawberries, custard and whipping cream." She glanced over at the house elves, which were scurrying to bring her the items she asked for, along with bowls and pans to cook them in. "But we should probably start with the cake, since that will take the longest." Kinsey glanced up to Joe, "You up to taking the lead for this part?" she challenged. If he didn't know a recipe, they could always get one from the elves, but Kinsey wasn't going to pass on an opportunity to tease him, despite the fact that it probably wouldn't phase him at all.

It was cute how quickly Kinsey got to business upon stepping into the kitchens. Probably mostly to get Joe to shut up with the flirting, but he noticed. Joe leaned against the counters and watched as she delegated the work. The House Elves were scurrying around them frantically, removing ingredients and baking supplies for them to use onto the countertop. Joe washed his hands at the sink, "Psh. Cake is my specialty. Prepare for your tastebuds to be amazed." he commented dramatically, grabbing two of the circular pans and tossing them in the air and catching them with ease. He tapped his fingers on the counter and cocked his head over at her, "Whatever happened to you showing me how to make your favorite dessert?" Joe mused, sending her a funny look in her direction, obviously joking with the waggling eyebrows. He was actually looking forward to making this sponge cake with Kinsey.
Joe stepped over to the oven and preheat it. One of the house elves walked over to Joe and helpfully tried to hand him an apron. He gave the elf a curt nod, thinking the aprons were a bit dorky, but he'd have fun with that. Joe stepped behind Kinsey, draping the apron over Kinseys frame when she wasn't looking, "Ahh, that's a good look for ya." he took a step back, admiring the apron on her with a thumbs up, not overly flirtatious for...once. Joe tied the strings around her waist.

Kinsey laughed, not surprised at all when Joe said that cake was his specialty as we started throwing around the pans. He probably had a recipe memorized and everything. Once he was done washing his hands, she went over there so she could get ready to cook. "Are you sure I'll be able to taste your amazing cake through all the other layers of the dessert," she teased. Kinsey felt much more comfortable around him when she was on offense instead of defense. "Maybe we should bake a bit of it separate so you can prove you're not all talk," she suggested with a small shrug, drying her hands on a nearby towel. She shrugged, "I like putting it all together. Making the separate components isn't necessarily my specialty. Maybe actually baking the cake will change my mind about that." Kinsey quirked an eyebrow at him, then turned her attention to all the ingredients the elves were bringing to her. "Are you going to teach me how to make a cake or not?" Kinsey challenged before turning to the ingredients and starting to organize them quickly so she'd know where they were when she was ready to start her part.
She wasn't even paying attention to Joe for a second, figuring that once he was ready he'd demand her attention somehow. She was definitely right about that. She jumped slightly when something passed over her head, then chuckled when she realized it was an apron. Joe was standing there, telling her it looked good and she rolled her eyes at him, proud that she was only slightly blushing. Then he stepped back, tying the strings and her blush deepened. "I w-was about to d-do that," she stammered, stepping away once he was done and smoothing out the apron. "Umm, so cakes?" Kinsey asked, trying to stop the teasing before it started.

When Kinsey joked about cooking a bit separate to see if he was really talk, he cocked his head to the side, impressed. "Oh, just for that, we will. Since now I feel the need to prove myself to you." His tone was laced with a flirtatious sarcasm, all with a boyish grin. He'd definitely make her try the cake by itself now. "Since you're basically a trifle connoisseur, I'm open to any constructive criticism."
Joe wasn't going to tease her about the apron any more. The look on her face and awkwardness was cute enough. Joe didn't want to torture her. He simply lifted his shoulders into a lazy shrug, before turning around on his heel to grab a bowl to mix the dry ingredients into. Raising a finger into the air theatrically, "First. Mixing the wet ingredients." he announced with a smile and nod. As if they were on a cooking show. Joe turned to Kinsey, "Since we can't use electric mixers here, we're stuck doing it the 'old-fashioned peasant' way..." he snorted, skillfully cracking an egg with one hand on the side of the bowl. He tossed the shells into the rubbish bin immediately to crack another with his free hand. He followed by whisking the ingredients together, wasting no time. This was a literal cakewalk for him.
The Slytherin raised two fingers this time, an equally cheesy grin from before, "Two. Dry ingredients." he announced, mixing them together with a small cloud forming around the bowl.. "This sponge cake will blow your store bought cake out of the water, you'll refuse to ever buy one of those crummy cakes again. Now you just gotta convert your mom." Joe declared confidently, sending Kinsey another smile. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0
