Ashley couldn't read the situation for once in her life. The atmosphere around them was tense, but it wasn't negatively tense. More ... like suspense. That kind of made sense. She liked Eli. She couldn't say that out loud and ruin their friendship, but she did. Being so close to him was a blessing and a curse. The closer she was to him, the closer the wanted to be. A part of her wished that this whole situation happened last year, when everything was good between them. She might've been brave enough back then to kiss him. Right now, she was trying to hide the blushing in her cheeks. She could barely look at him and she wasn't at the right angle to see him well out of the corner of her eye. He laughed when she said that he was warm and Ashley giggled, "Yes you are. I hope you don't mind me using you as a heater," she teased, trying to give him warning in advance. There was almost a 100% chance she would try and get closer once it got colder outside. "It's a good thing, since I'm always cold," she reminded him, turning her head so she could look up at him for a second and smile. Then she looked up again, not wanting to make things awkward, or make it obvious how much she still liked him. She wasn't expecting him to lift his arm and look at his watch, so Ash glanced over for another second initially. Then he started the countdown and her eyes started searching the sky. She wondered how easy it would be to see this and how long it would last. Well, once the meteors started coming, it was easy to see them. Ashley's mouth dropped open in awe. "Eli," she whispered, her voice filled with awe, "It's so pretty ..." a slow smile covered her face as she watched the sky. She chuckled softly at the sight. Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI COULDN'T THINK OF ONE NEGATIVE REASON for being Ashley's heater. In fact, he felt quite content to stay right in that moment for how ever long he was permitted. He was warmed from the inside out, a slight smile on his face that he couldn't drop. It was a good thing she couldn't see his face, he felt like it displayed his feeling in their entirety, which he wasn't sure he was ready for. He didn't think she had to clarify it was a good thing. He was quite secure in his thinking it was the very best.
And then the stars began to fall an a contented silence fell between them. Each enraptured by the magical display. Eli had seen spells fell men and create something out of nothing, but the miracle of outer space still left him a little bit dizzy. And to think, people told the future by simply looking up at the stars. He wondered what they said about the ones that fell.
But, just as quickly as it appeared it ended. Eli felt himself sigh as the last streak of light tore across the sky, leaving behind an odd stillness in its wake. He flexed his arm around Ashley and his first thought was about whether or not she'd move away from him now. He hoped not, blinking rapidly as he finally spoke up, "So..." He cleared a frog from his throat and drew in a breath. "Worth the risk?" He asked, turning his head to look at her as he smiled. He didn't let go, unwilling unless she did first.

Ashley was literally stunned into silence as she watched the meteors flash by. The sight was beautiful, something she'd never seen before and she was entirely entranced by them, unable to tear her eyes away or even really try to talk while she watched. Just that first expression, telling Eli that she thought they were beautiful. She smiled widely as she watched, suddenly feeling grateful that out of all the people Eli knew and was friends with, he brought her here. Then the meteors were gone and Ashley sighed as she continued to stare up into the sky, trying to burn the memory of them into her mind. She wanted to remember this moment forever, lying on the floor beside Eli, cuddling up against him as the meteors flashed by brilliantly. It was definitely going to be a good memory. She felt a slight shift with Eli and wondered if maybe he was getting tired of her laying on his arm, but she didn't want to move yet. He started to talk first, asking if it was worth the risk. Ashley looked up at him, her smile softening as their eyes met. Her first thought was to answer him with something entirely cheesy, telling him that doing anything with him was worth the risk. If they were dating, she might have, but they weren't. She didn't want to make anything awkward. "Of course. That was amazing Eli." She scooted closer to him, nuzzling her head against his shoulder softly. "Can we please just stay here?" Ash whispered, not meeting his eyes this time. "I'm so comfortable and warm, I don't want to move." She fully expected Eli to tell her that they had to go back to their dorms, but for once Ashley didn't care at all about following the rules. She was sleepy and tired, but she just wanted to stay here in Eli's arms. Elijah Theron Fleming

IT SHOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED TO ELI WHETHER or not he'd impressed Ashley, but it did. He searched her face for approval and found, to his relief, that she was smiling. Her body shifting towards him, so close he could feel her breath on his face. He'd never been this content in a long time. It different than being out in nature, or discovering a wild creature on the grounds. It was a quietness he'd never experienced before. Backed by a buzzing excitement that left his stomach flipping.
"We can stay," He muttered, turning his face away in case it revealed too much. He stared up at the exposed sky inside. The stars were still now, slowly meandering across the inky sky, the occasional twinkling grabbing his attention. He looked for constellations, but he'd never been good at astrology. He was better at reading clouds. "I got nowhere else to be." What he really meant was that he had nowhere else he'd rather be. Tightening his arm around her, Eli thought he'd very happily sleep there. With her warm body curled in to his side like a cat.

Ashley sighed, content when Eli said that they could stay. She closed her eyes and moved so she was right next to him. The air was starting to feel quite chilly now, but the warmer she was to him, the warmer she felt. She giggled when he said that he didn't have anywhere else to be. "Oh, so you wouldn't rather go to your bed now that the meteor shower is over?" she teased. She was glad that he said he didn't want to leave, because she would be perfectly happy staying here. Maybe there would be less chance of the two of them getting caught if they just stayed too. Granted, she didn't care if she got caught. She just wanted to spend her time with Eli right now. His arm tightened around her and Ashley closed her eyes again. She felt so safe and comfortable here in Eli's arms. She couldn't say anything about it, because she didn't want to make things awkward, but she'd be happy if she never had to move. Ashley stretched for a second before exhaling and snuggling back up to him. "Don't judge me, I might fall asleep." She was so tired that it was actually very likely she would fall asleep. That still didn't make her want to move. "Thanks for inviting me to watch that with you Eli," Ashley added. Elijah Theron Fleming

IT WAS TRUE THAT ELI WAS PROBABLY BETTER off in bed, but he didn't say that. He simply shrugged, his shoulders shaking with a slight laugh because he couldn't help it when she was giggling too. "Not really," He said, because that was true at least. "I'm pretty comfy here." He squeezed her arm where his was wrapped around her, but didn't let go.
Turning his head, he yawned as she stretched, realising that they both had the same idea. "I won't if you won't." He muttered, licking his lips as he blinked lazily. He could definitely drift off exactly as he was. Who didn't want to sleep under the stars with a girl they liked? Eli couldn't think of another person who would pass up the opportunity. He leaned his head against her and his body deflated with a sleep sigh. The next thing he knew, he was dreaming.

Ashley could feel Eli's laugh rumble through his chest when he said that he didn't want to go, that he was comfortable here. She smiled as he squeezed her arm. "Me too," she whispered, her eyes fluttering closed again. How was she so tired when Eli was nearby? Every other time she liked a guy it was like she was full of energy, but she was so comfortable with Eli. She could do anything with him. She gave a soft half-chuckle when he said he would judge her if she didn't judge him. She couldn't ever judge him. She liked him too much. She was already half-asleep by then, feeling a slight pressure where he rested his head on her, but not paying attention. She was already drifting off to sleep. --- time jump to morning --- The next morning, Ash shifted slightly as a soft light started to touch her eyes. She wasn't ready to get up. She was so warm and comfortable, she didn't feel like moving. Awareness came on slowly, but she still didn't open her eyes. Her legs were in an awkward position, she figured she must have rolled around in her sleep and gotten them tangled in the sheets, but she wasn't concerned. Her hand was holding onto something gently, right in front of her. She sighed happily, not remembering a time when she'd ever felt so comfortable. Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI COULDN'T REALLY REMEMBER FALLING ASLEEP, only that one minute he was awake and the next minute he wasn't. Ashley had just been so warm beside him, and the calming scattering of stars above them had been like a mobile hanging over their heads, lulling them quietly. So, when he eventually awoke, it was at first with confusion.
His body roused first, toasty and a little stiff, but it wasn't uncomfortable. He felt himself groan a little and his dry eyes blinked once and again, blindly. When the light registered, he realised that there was something right in front of him. And then it all came flooding back. It was Ashley's face, blurry up close but coming in to focus around him. He realised that they were touching from head to toe. His nose brushing hers whenever he breathed, their legs knotted and their hands clasped in front of them. He didn't remember doing that, and it shocked him.
Jerking suddenly, Eli headbutted Ashley and yelped all at the same time. "Sorry," He mumbled hoarsely, rubbing at his head and letting go of her hand. "I..." He sat up so fast he gave himself a head rush. "I can't believe we fell asleep." He laughed awkwardly, rubbing at his legs and mussing his tangle of dark hair. He didn't want her to think that he was leaving in a hurry, but he was confused. Though he felt sure now that there was definitely something between them. But, he also had morning breath. Getting on to his knees, he groaned and tried to crack his back. "We should go before we get caught in first class," He looked down at his watch and groaned. "It's like 5 in the morning." As long as he pretended everything was normal, it was normal.
@ashley possibly ending here?

Ashley was slowly coming to awareness, feeling warm air brush her face every few seconds. In the back of her mind, she realized she couldn't be sleeping on her mattress, whatever was beneath her was much too hard. She didn't want to get up though. Something felt natural right now. Suddenly, her hand jerked and Ashley's eyes shot open as something slammed into her head hard. She called out, cringing and reaching up to touch her forehead. What in the world just happened. Then she heard Eli's voice apologizing. Eli was here? Her eyes opened again as she looked up at him, gently rubbing her forehead as she remembered. Last night they'd watched the meteor shower together ... and fallen asleep? She watched him sit up quickly, saying that he couldn't believe they fell asleep. She felt him moving more and realized their legs had been tangled together. Blushing more than she wanted too, Ashley sat up, crossing her legs in front of her and giving a fake little laugh. "I mean, you did go to all that trouble to make it comfortable," she teased, gesturing to the blanket that was still underneath them. He mentioned that they should leave, that it was five in the morning and Ashley nodded quickly. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea," she agreed feeling ridiculous. It felt like he just wanted to get away. She reached up to her forehead again. "So ... I guess I'll see you around then," Ashley said as she rose to her feet, hesitating. She should leave. Eli made it obvious that he didn't want to get caught here with her, but it was five. Who would catch them now? She extended a hand to help him up. "You okay? Sorry I fell asleep on your arm. It's probably sore." She smiled, wanting to make things less awkward between them. If that was possible. Elijah Theron Fleming

ET WAS TRUE THAT HE'D GONE TO A LOT OF effort to make it comfortable, but he still hadn't expected to sleep there all night. Eli rarely slept through the night. He was the type that tossed and turned, got up for the bathroom and kicked off the blankets. But he had barely moved at all, only shifting closer and closer until they had been falling over each other. So, he laughed when she teased him and pretended it wasn't a big deal.
"Yeah, I guess," He sighed, laughing through his nose as he sat back on his calves. He had a lot to think about, but he didn't want to rush Ashley either. He nodded when she did, but he didn't stand up. "Studying tonight, right?" He said hopefully, concerned she might have forgotten in her sleepy haze.
Taking her offered hand when she offered it, Eli remembered how they'd been slotted together only minutes before. He cleared a frog from his throat and itched his palm when he took it back. "It wasn't bad," He smiled at her, shaking out the arm she'd slept on and nodding that it felt fine. "I'd do it again." He blurted out without thinking about it, his ears going red and his head dropping. "I mean-" He shook his head, barking a laugh awkwardly. "Not that... we should risk it again, or something." He stuttered, flexing his fingers and resisting the urge to cringe. "C'mon," He jutted his chin before bending down for his blanket and bag of supplies. "I'll walk you out."
- END ELI

At least the awkwardness was slowly going away. Sure, Ashley had a little bit of a headache from when Eli's head collided with hers, but there was no way she was going to bring that up. If it didn't go away, she'd take some of the Feverfew potion and be fine. He didn't need to know. Besides, she liked the idea that they'd been together all night, that he'd been so close to her for so long. Ashley nodded, a smile crossing her face when he mentioned tonight. "Yes! Yes, tonight." Good. At least they wouldn't have to wait too long before doing something again. Waiting might make things awkward. Then again, she was starting to feel like she and Eli were good at defusing awkward situations. As long as they were together, which was what she wanted. "Thanks for reminding me," she added. Eli let her help him to his feet, but he didn't hold her hand for long. She laughed when he shook his arm out, saying it wasn't bad. Ashley rolled his eyes, but hers lit up a little when he added that he'd do it again. He started to get embarrassed, which was exactly the opposite of what Ashley wanted. She smirked mischievously. "I would do it again, with you." She shrugged, trying to help him feel more comfortable again. He bent down to pick everything up, saying that he would walk her out and Ashley smiled. "Okay. Thanks again Eli. It was amazing." All of it. The ice cream, the hot chocolate, the meteor shower, but most of all spending time so close to him. --- the end --- Elijah Theron Fleming
