Of course she asked all the questions that he didn’t want her to ask. Life couldn’t be that easy, she couldn’t just accept what he was saying, and he shouldn’t have expected her too. There was a lot of depth to his words, he knew them, of course she would feel them, they were so close together right now that he couldn’t blame her for feeling everything he was feeling. “You have to trust me.” he insisted. He couldn’t tell her, right now, he wasn’t sure he would even if he could tell her. He didn’t want to worry her with it, he didn’t want to scare her. He didn’t want to make her more of a target by giving her more information. For all of what she was asking, that was all he could say about any of it. “Just like when I took you out on those boats.” he reminded her with a smile. She asked a simple favor of him and he leaned down and kissed her once more. They had already kissed twice in the presence of the school, what harm would a third time bring?

She could see the hesitation when he tried to decide what to say and knew that he wasn't going to answer her question. Why? If she was in danger, shouldn't she know about it? Then again, Riley was always trying to protect her. She couldn't help but remember the first time they fought, when he tried to keep her away from Diana because she "didn't feel right" to him. He was always trying to protect her. Maybe it was something normal like that. Riley told her to trust him and Kinsey felt her body deflate in disappointment, but she gave him a small smile. She could do now what she hadn't been able to do last year. "I do trust you. Just know ... you don't always have to hold it all inside," she answered. He mentioned the boats and her mind flitted back to the first day he kissed her. He wanted to take her out on the boats and Kinsey was worried about falling in, but Riley promised he'd keep her safe. Her smile softened and she nodded, "I trust you," she repeated, just before he kissed her again. Kinsey returned his kiss, trying to just enjoy it and get lost in being with him again. She wasn't sure if he was trying to say goodbye or not, but she didn't care. Riley loved her. Not Priscilla or anyone else, and he was still trying to protect her, even if she didn't know how. When the kiss ended, she rested her head on his chest, just taking deep breaths for a minute or two. Kinsey didn't know why, but all of a sudden she felt a little ray of hope for them. It made no sense, but for the first time since the semester started she actually felt happy and like things would work out. Somehow. --- the end --- @riley
