MAY 2023
Two months prior to this certain day, Yvonne celebrated her birthday alongside her sisters, especially since she shared the day with Yvette, her parents and even distant cousins. While thirteen wasn’t essentially an important age to Yvonne, it was to Yvette, her elder sister and pretty much…Everyone else. Sure, it was the first step into becoming a teenager. One step closer to an adult and with a lot of things to learn, the elder De Snaijer twin was sure she didn’t care for age or even the future at this point. Especially now, months later with her parents death still fresh in her mind, nothing really mattered honestly.
In the dorm rooms of her Horned Serpent House in Ilvermorny, the brunette spent most of her morning throwing clothes and lazily using her wand to help her pack. The move wasn’t Yvonne’s decision, but more so between the adults – especially being only thirteen she truly had no say in it. The De Snaijer family was spread out across the world, but in America alone it was only Yvonne, her mother and father and her two sisters. Meaning…A move was needed. To London. Specifically. London was one place Yvonne had no clue of, or even the woman she would be living with. Her grandmother: Lila. Yvonne was sure while she was young, she bonded with the elder De Snaijer a little better, but nothing would compare to how Yvonne felt about most things lately.
With all of her items sealed away in small boxes, Yvonne made her way to the main entrance, quiet as she walked especially since most students had classes or were simply away for the day. Her back pressed against the wall as she waited for her sister, her hand twirling her wand slowly, briefly nodding at curious eyes who walked passed her. The plan for the twins was to send them off to London in the passing days, have them enrol privately in Hogwarts…A plan Yvonne was sure she didn’t want to follow through. @yvette & hopefully this works ;u;

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] HOPE FOR SOME CHANGE [attr="class","next"] It hadn’t been long since Yvette, and her twin had turned the tender age of thirteen, finally considered a teenager in the eyes of society. She didn’t feel any older and didn’t see her age change of anything of importance, but it was fun to celebrate with those around her. However, her parents would die not long after they celebrated their birthday, and she was filled with dread. Their grandmother had gained custody of the three De Snaijer children and had refused to let them finish what was left of the term, instead, wanting them to switch to Hogwarts as soon as possible. The siblings barely knew their grandmother, a woman by the name of Lila, but it was likely they had known her when they were young babes. Yvette spent her entire morning, packing away all her things for the ride home. From what she had heard, all of her things at home were already moved, and once they arrived back home, they were being taken straight to the airport for the flight over to London, where they would be met with someone that would take them to their grandmother. Yvette had been fearful of the flight plans all night, and her elder sister had spent the time consoling her, seeing as the two were in the same house. It was odd for the young brunette third-year to be switching schools with only a month left in the term, but that was what their grandmother wanted of them. After her bags were packed and side of the dorm room clear of all her belongings, she made her way to the main entrance as quiet as a mouse. Her elder sister had disappeared not long after she finished, leaving Yvette to go this alone. When she arrived near the entrance, she found her sister waiting for her and without even thinking ran towards her with tears in her eyes and threw her into an awkward embrace. “Yonnie, I don’t want to go!” she sobbed into her sister’s chest.

Yvonne had always wanted to avoid the day herself, Yvette and their older sister would have to meet and live alongside their grandmother Lila De Snaijer. The twins barely knew the woman’s face since they had first met while they were still toddlers but the older twin was sure their elder sister was reminded of her face easily, being born into the family first that is. In the midst of waiting, Yvonne noticed her older sister leaving early, potentially to wish her friends goodbye. When their eyes locked onto one another, Yvonne was the first to break the contact, looking down at her hand that twirled her wand.
With her things packed and her back pressed to the wall, it wasn’t long until her younger sister Yvette made her appearance. At first she was made aware of her presence from her name being called out and soon, her sister — of the same height — crashed her face into her chest, sobbing away. At first, Yvonne rolled her eyes before she looked down at her sister, a frown twitching at her lips. She instantly felt bad. Arms wrapped around Yvette to resemble comfort, her left hand raising to stroke down her sisters hair. ”Me too Vet.” She murmured, resting her chin on the top of Yvette’s hair.
”But we have to.” She told her, hands firmly holding onto each side of Yvette and unlatching her from her chest, looking into wet eyes with her own dry ones. ”Lila can’t be…That bad anyway.” Yvonne refused to call Lila by her respective title ‘Grandmother’. She didn’t know the woman and with her attitude now of pushing people away — aside from Yvette — Yvonne was sure she didn’t even want to know her.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] HOPE FOR SOME CHANGE [attr="class","next"] Yvette knew that her sister hated when she cried, mostly because it showed weakness. After coming to Ilvermorny, her twin had changed a bit, leaving Yvette to seem like the weaker link between the two. However, she was somewhat surprised to feel her sister slowly wrap her arms around her small frame, comforting her to a small degree, and stroking her hair as she cried. It made Yvette almost melt into her sister, but she stayed strong as she sobbed. Yvonne said that she too did not want to leave, but that they had to. Telling her that Lila, their grandmother, couldn’t be that bad anyway. She shook her head against her sister’s chest. “It’s not that she’ll be bad—it’s…I just don’t wanna leave my friends,” she said, her voice stuttering with the tears that were streaming down her face, mumbled by her face being against her sister’s chest. Sure, she was scared because she barely knew her grandmother, but she was terrified and upset because she was being forced to move to London and attend a new school, Hogwarts.

WEAKNESS WAS ONE thing Yvonne refused to be associated with. It had been one of Delilah’s teachings, to stare blankly with the arrival of a weakness, as if you were emotionless. It hadn’t been difficult, especially since arriving at Ilvermorny and being sorted away from her siblings had been the first step in that. Yvette — truthfully — was the emotional one. Even crying at stories as a child, whether they were happy or sad. But with her younger twin in her embrace, and her own hand stroking brunette hair, Yvonne knew she didn’t want anything else in the world…Except this moment. ”You’ll make new friends.” She murmured down to her sister, feeling a tear trickle out of her own eye.
Sniffling back the rest of her threatening tears, Yvonne pulled her sister out of their latched embrace, her hands resting on either side of her sister. The two were identical, aside from the area where their beauty mark was, but it still freaked out the older twin — how…She felt she was looking into a mirror. There were times Yvonne felt as if she was the emotionless side of herself and Yvette was the side filled with emotions. Even if they were two different people. ”You’re friendly enough.” She continued, trying to cheer up her sister with a forced smile. ”You’ll make friends so easily and I’m sure everyone will love you there.”
Even their Grandmother. She wanted to add, but bit back the need to do so. Yvonne’s hands moved from her sister’s side, instead both of her thumbs sweeping Yvette’s cheeks in opposite directions, ridding the wetness of the tears from there. ”Stop crying…Okay?” She hated seeing her sister cry. It made her cry. And crying was a sign of weakness. ”I bet Hogwarts isn’t even that bad. And you’ll finally pick up that accent you wanted.” British? Scottish? It was one of those.

'You'll make new friends. You're friendly enough. You'll make friends so easily, and I'm sure everyone will love you there.' Yvette found herself sniffling, swallowing a lump in her throat from the upset that she felt in the pit of her stomach. "I-I guess...it won't be the same, though." she breathed out truthfully, while she was always down for making new friends, she enjoyed the company of the friends that she would be leaving behind in the states.
She brushed her fingers against her cheeks to removed the tears, giving one last sniffle as her sister told her to stop crying. She nodded her head; no more tears ran down her red face. God, she probably looked like a mess. She rubbed at her nose, swallowing once more. 'And you'll finally pick up that accent you wanted.' This caused a laugh to leave the brunette's lips, nodding once more, "You're right..."

YVONNE HATED SEEING YVETTE CRY. It only made the elder twin want to cry alongside her, cry for unwanted attention even though she truly didn’t want or deserve it. ”No. You’re right.” She said, stroking her sister’s hair. ”It’ll be better. A lot better.” Yvonne forced a smile then, it wasn’t a genuine one, nor one she could keep for long, but in Yvette’s presence — almost anything was possible.
Running her thumbs across her sister’s cheeks to help spread the trickling tears, Yvonne smiled as her sister sniffled, trying to stop crying. She looked like a mess, eyes looked blood-shot from all the tears she shed, cheeks stained with odd wet patches and her eyes…even looked puffy? How cute. When Yvette finally laughed, it was music to the elder twin’s ears, a sign she would slowly become comfortable with her new surroundings when they reached London anyway. ”Of course I am. I’m your sister after all.” Even their elder sister was the same, always trying to keep the twins happy. But when they were both sad and Yvonne felt emotionally numb, she had to pick up the pieces. ”Are you ready? To get going?” They had to keep moving their bags after all.

Yvette hiccuped, from all the crying it seemed her body was attempting to return to normal. She once more wiped at her cheeks as her sister stroked her hair and said that it'd be better, a lot better. She hoped that she was right - after losing their parents and being forced to move to London and attend a new school, she wasn't prepared.
But with her sister's there, she knew that she would be alright. And Yvonne even confirmed that saying that she was her sister after all and she giggled. A smile slowly crept onto her face and nodded her head slowly. "Yeah-I'm ready," she breathed out.
Not long after those words were spoken, their eldest sister arrived, and the three siblings were on their way to their new home, school...and life without their parents. Things would get better; she would be happy - she would make her parents proud.
