Anna couldn’t open her eyes. She didn’t want to show Lucy that she was awake or aware of anything. She didn’t want to be awake or aware. She didn’t want her sister to try and get her to eat again, didn’t want to move. Really, all Anna wanted to do was sink into the ground. She wanted to disappear, to simply cease to exist and be done with it all. She still held Oscar’s wedding ring in her right hand. She hadn’t opened her fist since she found it, but the metal still felt cold against her hand. He was gone.
Her mind was still trying to comprehend the fact that the man she’d fallen in love with and married disappeared and wasn’t coming back. Something terrible had to have happened to him. He wouldn’t have left his wedding ring anywhere. She hadn’t even seen him take it off once since their wedding. Something had to have happened to him and her heart ached at the thought of never seeing him again. After an immeasurable amount of time spent in thought Anna realized that her eyes weren’t closed anymore. She was staring up at the ceiling as thoughts of Oscar consumed her. She missed him.
Anna didn’t even notice the door opening. If she had, she would have expected it to be either Lucy or Ariadne and she wasn’t sure if she’d let them know she noticed. She wasn’t sure how much she wanted to interact with anyone right now. Not unless they could take away this never-ending pain.

Andy was let it and didn't say anything at first as she stood outside Anna's door. She took in a deep breath and then opened the door, pushing it open and stepping in silently. She took in the shape of Anna lying there, almost dead looking. She took in a deep breath again and stepped forward.
Suddenly her mind was back to almost a year ago, when she herself was in the hospital losing her mind. She felt like she could go back to that at any second, honestly, but she hadn't voiced that concern to anyone. She remembered days laying motionless, like Anna was now. Or days where she was screaming and slamming into things... she wondered if Anna had done that yet. Days where she cried, days where she wanted her life to end, days where she tried to make that happen...
She reached Anna and stayed standing, "they say that you don't talk much," she said slowly, "I don't expect you to talk to me. But, if you wanted, you could look in my eyes... and hopefully see something good there."
@annelise (it's a good thing you mentioned this on the phone, i totally lost it)

Anna didn't jump when she heard her friend's voice. She wasn't really paying enough attention to her surroundings to know that Andy was there, but she was definitely feeling dull enough that it didn't startle her. Anna wasn't quite sure if anything would ever startle her again. She felt empty, void, but that voice ... she turned toward Andy's voice, eyes widening when she saw her friend.
"Andy," Anna said, her voice sounding raspy to her ears. She didn't know why she hadn't expected her friend to show up. She'd visited Andy when she was in the hospital. Then again, Anna just wasn't thinking clearly. About anything. Tears filled her eyes as she looked up at her friend and Anna reached for her hand, wanting to tug it and get Andy to sit down on her bed. She could have just said it, but she didn't really feel like talking. Andy knew her well enough ... maybe she would know what Anna wanted.

Anna said her name, and tugged on her hand. Andy sat down, glad doe the invitation and wrapped an arm around Anna's shoulders. She was silent for a while then. Long enough for Anna to cry if she wanted or sit in silence. After some time, Andy finally spoke up again. "I wish I had an idea of how to make this better, but I know there's nothing I can really do," she started but then she cleared her throat and summoned her bag. It flew glided the room toward her and she plucked it from the air, reaching in and pulling out a small package. "Here," she held it out to Anna.
Inside was a tiny music box that played the classic song 'la vie en rose' on a single violin. Andy had recorded it herself and had help construction the box to play her song with a miniature violin hidden within it's center - unseen.

Andy wrapped Anna in a one-sided hug and Anna hugged her back, shaking as she cried. She couldn't help it. The world was crashing down around her and she was expected to let it, to just move on and be strong, but she couldn't do that anymore. Not this time. It was Oscar who was gone and she was tired of people saying that it would be okay. It wasn't okay and it would never be that way. They didn't understand.
Her tears started to lessen by the time that Andy said she wished she could make it better. She nodded, not saying anything. She kind of appreciated that Andy wasn't trying to make it better with words. Then something was moving across the room and Andy was holding something out in front of Anna.
Anna sat up a little bit, taking the small package and opening it. It was a music box. A small smile touched her lips when she heard the song. "It's beauty Andy. Thank you." Anna just looked at the music box, not knowing what to say but wanting something. "Thank you for coming," she added after several minutes. She was glad to have Andy here.

Anna thanked her for the present, saying it was beautiful, and thanks are coming. Andy just nodded. "I'll admit, I'm not so good with this stuff," she explained. "It's hard enough for me to be there for people when they are having happy occasions," she explained further. She wasn't meaning to make this about herself... She was just trying to explain ... something. "That's why I use music. Makes more sense than words."
She quieted, not sure if there was more detail she needed to go into. She wasn't entirely thrilled about the prospect of discussing Oscar at length. Andy barely even knew him and further still didn't know if she really cared for the guy in their small interactions she had. But he loved Anna, and that meant something. Still she wasn't sure if she was the best person to have an actual conversation about it with, but Anna was one of her closest friends, and she would be there for her for whatever she needed.
@annelise (I literally have no idea what else to do in this thread hahaha)

Anna still gazed at the music box as Andy explained herself a little bit, saying she didn't normally do this kind of stuff, that it was hard enough when people were happy. "Your music is beautiful," she answered softly, looking up at her friend then. She smiled and then shook her head, "You don't have to say anything though. Thanks for coming." Honestly, Anna hadn't thought to invite her friends or anything since she went after Oscar. She didn't even know how Andy knew to come, but it was nice to have a friend there and know she wasn't entirely alone. So the pair sat there in silence for a long time. Sometimes it was a peaceful silence, sometimes Anna cried softly and hugged her friend. The nice thing was not being alone and not feeling pressured to say something or act like she was okay. It was nice to have an afternoon like that with a good friend. --- the end --- @lestrange
