december 24, 2024 Hugo was home for Christmas, which made Rose happier than she was expecting. Not that she had expected to dislike her brother's presence, but it was easier to remember how much she missed him when he was back with her again. He had brought a friend home with him for Christmas, which had been a little weird for Rose, but she wasn't going to question it, so long as she still got time with her little brother. It was Christmas Eve, which meant that it was time for the Granger-Weasley children to build their annual Christmas Eve Snowman. There was a fine layer of powder on the ground; Rose wasn't sure it would be enough to build a snowman with, but she was a witch, and she could always summon up more snow if they found the natural kind lacking.
Rose stopped at the doorway of her younger brother's room, knocking hesitantly. He hadn't given her any reason to believe that he would skip out on their holiday tradition, but the past year had been so strange in so many ways that Rose knew she couldn't take anything for granted - not even the things that seemed like they'd always happen.

Hugo was glad to be home. He loved school and was thoroughly enjoying his last year at Hogwarts, but at the same time there was so much pressure there. Being Head Boy he had so many more responsibilities than normal, not to mention all the studying he had to do and the pranks and hanging out that he still did with his friends. There wasn't enough time in the day for him to do all the things he needed/wanted to. At least during Christmas break he could relax a bit. What's better, Sav came home with him this year. When Hugo found out his friend was planning on staying at Hogwarts because he didn't want to see his father, Hugo automatically invited him over. On Christmas Eve, Hugo was getting ready for his tradition with Rose. They always made a snowman together. It was something Hugo always looked forward to because it was time he could spend with her without having to worry about other people bothering them. When he heard the knock on his door, Hugo hurried to it, pulling it open. "Hey! You ready?" he asked, closing the door behind him. Sav was ... doing something else. Hugo wasn't quite sure what, but that wasn't too important. Sav would be fine. He started making his way to the back door, expecting his older sister to come along too. Rozalina Antonina Nightshade

To Rose’s immense relief, Hugo opened the door almost as soon as she knocked; he didn’t seem all that concerned with leaving his friend behind. Rose felt slightly guilty for abandoning Savtaj like that, but not so guilty that she would let her brother off of his Christmas Eve duties. “When have I ever not been ready, Hugo?” She asked with a smirk. It wasn’t like Hugo made a habit of not being prepared – he was responsible enough, being Head Boy and all – but Rose would bet her Christmas sweets that, as a rule, she was more prepared than her brother.
She followed him to the back door and into the yard, humming to herself. “Do you reckon this is enough snow?” Rose asked, already withdrawing her wand. She was itching to get to do some more advanced magic; it seemed since graduation her work at the Ministry hadn’t required anything more complex than an ink-drying spell. That in itself wasn’t a bad thing, but Rose’s mind craved constant stimulation and challenge. Weather spells had never been her forte, but she bet she could conjure up a decent snowfall. Once they got to making their snowman, then Rose could really interrogate Hugo about what had been going on in his life.

Hugo laughed when his older sister asked when she hadn't been ready. That ... was a good question. To Hugo, at least, it always seemed like his older sister was ready for everything. She was smart and prepared and really one of his role models, though he wasn't sure if he'd ever really tell her that. It'd be too embarrassing. "Okay, okay I get it," he responded in a joking tone. When they walked into the yard, Rose was pulling out her wand, questioning whether or not there was enough snow. He couldn't help but grin. "I don't think more snow is ever a bad thing," Hugo said innocently, though he thought he knew what she was going to do. If she made it snow some more, they'd have enough for him to start an impromptu snowball fight once the snowman was made. Hugo loved that idea. Rozalina Antonina Nightshade

Rose’s eyes crinkled when she smiled at her brother. He was smart enough to know that her question didn’t need to be answered at all. Her smile only broadened when Hugo said that more snow was never a bad thing. She knew she liked the kid for a reason – beyond them being related, of course. Rose cleared her throat more dramatically than was strictly necessary before reciting the incantation and waving her wand. Snow immediately began to fall in a five-foot radius around her and Hugo, and Rose tucked her wand away, satisfied.
“So, little brother,” Rose said, bending down to begin forming snow into a ball for the base of their snowman. “I need a detailed report of everything I’ve missed in your life in the past six months.” They talked, of course, but there was only so much an owl could say, and Rose was sure there were details that had slipped in between the cracks. Now she just had to remember what about her own life she had already told Hugo for when it was her turn to be interrogated.

Hugo could tell that Rose was pleased by his answers to her questions, but he didn't tease her about it like he would have everyone else. She was different than everyone else. Rose was his sister and while he did like to mess with her, there was a time and a place. Their annual snow-man building tradition was not the time nor the place for that kind of teasing. He smiled, looking around them with interest when she made it start to snow. Of course she did it perfectly. She started rolling snow into a ball and Hugo decided to do the same, going for the middle of the snowman since he was pretty sure she would want to do the base. He looked over at her when she started talking, then chuckled. 'Everything? That's a lot, Rose," he teased lightly, more to give himself a little time to think as he pushed the snowball around some more. "I ... not much, really. Being Head Boy takes a lot of my time. When I'm not doing responsibilities for that, I have schoolwork and pranks to pull ... you know Adrian and Sav would never let me out of that." He chuckled. "We turned people's hair orange one morning." It had been glorious. He stood there for a moment, reminiscing. "But other than that, I haven't done anything particularly out of the blue. I sighed up for a blind date, but it's not until after Christmas, sooo ..." he trailed off, not really knowing what else to tell her. "What about you? How is work and everything going?"
