December 31, 2024 It was strange to get an owl, presumably from Ginny—although the handwriting didn't exactly look like hers, Parvati had to admit—to ask her to come over. It wasn't as though she and Ginny had had any sort of a falling out; they hadn't, but the brevity of the letter made Parvati question if it was something to do with the Azkaban breakout nonsense. Ouroboros needed to meet; she knew that much. Maybe that was what this was about? She didn't know Finn's handwriting as well as she knew some of the others'… Maybe Ginny had offered up her home for the meeting? It would have been an odd choice, but there was too much going on at the moment. Everything seemed vaguely suspicious, and Parvati had only gotten out of St. Mungo's the day before.
She wasn't back to her usual self, which she felt warranted keeping her wand close by as she Apparated to the Potters' door. If something else had gone wrong, she really wasn't in a position to duel anyone. She was trying not to take too many potions for the residual pain, considering how much she still had to do just to catch up on her regular work. Being out of it was out of the question.
Parvati hadn't bothered with much in the way of makeup, though she hoped to Merlin that she looked presentable enough. Even among friends, she really didn't want to look as awful as she knew she had in her hospital bed. Neither did she want to repeat that anytime soon, she thought as she knocked at the door. The cold winter air hurt more than usual as she breathed it in, and she hoped that Ginny would be there to answer it quickly.

Harry opened the door wearing Ron's face - that was, having used a Polyjuice Potion to look like his best friend. "Hey Parvati, come on in," he greeted, stepping back in order to let her in. He shut the door quickly so the cold air wouldn't get into the house to taint their conversation. Harry had written a letter to his old school friend, wanting to see her and see how she was doing. He felt bad having her come all the way here, after hearing that she had just been hospitalized. "Sit down," he offered, gesturing to the couch in the front sitting room. He moved to sit down too, right on the edge so that he could get up quickly if needed. Harry always did that. parvati patil macmillan

It wasn't Ginny who answered the door; instead, it was Ron. It shouldn't have been so surprising; he was Ginny's brother, but, still, Parvati had fully expected Ginny to be the one greeting her. He ushered her inside, and she entered, glad to be out of the cold. She hadn't been waiting for very long, though, which was the positive side.
Ron shut the door behind her and then gestured for her to sit. "Sit down," he told her, which she did, seating herself on the sofa to which she had been directed. Ron, too, sat down—nothing strange about that, though he wasn't seated leisurely, in the way Parvati would have expected him to be. Rather, he sat down on the edge of his seat, as though he was anticipating something.
It was bizarre, though Parvati didn't comment on it at first. Ron, as everyone else did, had reason to be nervous; the entire world seemed to be crashing in on them again. What was funny, however, was that Ron had never been the one to behave like that. He had his fears—spiders, for one—but rushing at the first sight of trouble had always been Harry's modus operandi, if anyone's.
When Ron didn't lean back and ease up a little, Parvati grew concerned. Had something else happened? This wasn't like him. "Ron?" she questioned, leaning forward a little and clutching her wand out of habit. "I-Is everything alright?"

Parvati asked if he was okay, and he realized he hadn't said anything for a moment. He nodded, "no, no. I mean yes, things are okay. Not everything is, but," he waved a hand, his eyes darting toward the door. It was closed. Closed. No one was coming for him or for Ginny... at least not yet. He looked back to Parvati and sighed, taking in the sight of her, he let out a short chuckle. He brought his hand up to his eyes and rubbed them with the heel of his, one eye at a time, "my apologies, Parvati. It's been a long forty eight hours. As I'm sure you've experienced as well," he dropped his hand back into his lap. "It's not Ron," he said quickly - not wanting to startle her, "it's me, Harry." He gave her a moment to react before barreling in... parvati patil macmillan

Ron nodded. "No, no," he began before backtracking to correct himself—not everything was alright, but… He glanced quickly in the direction of the door, then he looked back to her and chuckled. He rubbed his eyes then, saying that it had been a long forty-eight hours. "As I'm sure you've experienced as well," he added.
That it had been, but what in Merlin's name was Ron going on about? If there was some problem, Parvati wished that he would have just gone ahead and spit it out already. It wasn't as though she couldn't handle it.
"It's not Ron." Ron's words startled her. Of course it was Ron… He was behaving oddly, but she had never had reason to believe that the man sitting there wasn't Ron Weasley. What did he mean it wasn't—"It's me, Harry."
Parvati's eyes widened and met Ron's—or Harry's, perhaps—in stunned silence. "You're—You're joking…" she breathed, looking at the door for herself. "I-I don't understand. Harry's—you're meant to be dead." What was something only Harry would know? Of course, he and Ron had probably told one another everything over the years, and it wasn't as though he was just walking up to her on the street.
What if he was telling the truth? It was technically his house, too, as well as Ginny's. And it wasn't as though they wouldn't have had all manner of security-related enchantments to keep anyone or anything from intruding. "It's Polyjuice, isn't it?" Parvati asked softly, still trying to make sense of what she had been told, as she let go of her grip on her wand.
She didn't know how she was supposed to feel. All of the dispair that she had felt because of his disappearance and presumed death… All of the hell that it had put Ron and Hermione through… The schism within the Order of the Phoenix and how much stress that had caused every last one of them. Harry Potter was never supposed to be dead. He was the Boy Who Lived. And, there he was, alive again.
How Ginny or Hermione hadn't killed him yet for having scared them all like that was a mystery to her. But what he must have been through! And his wand! Parvati exhaled slowly, her mind still racing. Forget forty-eight hours; Harry had been missing for months.
"It's really you, then…" She had gotten choked up, thinking about it. She had so many questions, but she could wait to have those answered if he needed the time. Instead, she smiled. "You're alive, Harry."

Her eyes widened and then so did his as he tried to take in what she was feeling. She stuttered, seemingly breathless, stunned. She said he was meant to be dead and then asked about Polyjuice. He let her work through it, nodding his head. Then he watched her in silence as she worked through her emotions, his own eyes stinging a bit as he waited. He didn't want to startle her or cut her off, and he wasn't sure what to say. She choked up, saying it really was him and that he was alive. "Yes," he finally spoke, moving a little closer to her on the couch. He smiled too. "I've been... through a lot. Maybe made some stupid choices along the way. Like I always do," he chuckled, but it was void of any real humor. "I know that's not a good excuse for vanishing but I... I mean how are you?"parvati patil macmillan

“Yes,” Harry spoke, confirming the puzzle pieces that she had had to put together. It was Harry, using Polyjuice Potion. Merlin, it was such a relief to know that he was alive and well—or at least well enough that he was home and not being held somewhere or tortured or… Relatively speaking, he was safe. Whatever had happened and whatever reason he had had for leaving, he was back now. “I've been… through a lot,” he said, although when hadn’t he? Almost everything that Harry had gone off and done for as long as Parvati had known him had had an element of risk attached. Still, for him to admit so readily that he had been through a lot… That was a new one. “Maybe made some stupid choices along the way. Like I always do.”
“I know that's not a good excuse for vanishing,” he told her, “but I… I mean how are you?”
“I’m alright,” Parvati nodded. Her smile of relief at Harry’s not being dead had faded. “I mean, I’ve just been in hospital,” she acknowledged, though that didn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things. “The dragon thing… Hogsmeade… I’m sure you’ve heard.” Parvati shook her head. That had been a mess, never mind finding out what was going on via a letter that she should have received while she was still unconscious and then getting even more information from what had been printed in the papers. “But a few, you know, bumps and bruises… They’re nothing, really.” She would heal and be good as new soon. Whatever Harry was dealing with, well… She felt for him; she really did.
Whatever Harry and Ginny or their kids needed, Parvati was more than happy to help. At this point, Harry was probably just relieved to be home, and that was what he needed to focus on. His family, more than anyone else, needed him—and he needed them. No one needed another scare like that. “Harry, please… Please be careful, alright?” Parvati asked of him, taking a breath in and being reminded of how sore she still was. “Whatever happened…” She wanted to know everything, yet being spared the details seemed the safer route. She was sure that she would come to know in time, in any case. “You’ve still got an army with you, you know.” Her expression softened as she spoke, though the feeling that she was caught up in some dream hadn’t quite left her. It wasn’t the first time that he had had his friends standing behind him. “Whatever you need.”

He listened to her speak, noticing her demeanor change as she spoke about the hospital and the dragons. He nodded, he had heard. It was a gigantic mess. One that he could have made a difference in if he had just been there... and maybe had been a little more honest about his worries with the relic. He reached out a hand, a little awkwardly, and placed it on her knee. "I'm really sorry. I wish I could have helped," he told her honestly, bringing his hand back. Then Parvati spoke again, telling him to be careful, well - asking. "... you've still got an army with you, you know," she said, and he felt an incredible leap of happiness and then sudden sadness rush through him like a ghost. He didn't know if he was worthy of that army right now, but he'd never discredit their desire to help or make them feel useless. They were his family, his life, his only constant. He was quite for a moment, and didn't realize his gaze as shifted down to his hands - Rons hands. "I shouldn't have left like that," he finally said. "But I promise, when the time is right I'll explain why," he took in a breath, looking back up at her. "And how... how's Lily?" Parvati would have been at the school with her. parvati patil macmillan

Parvati knew that Harry’s apology for having not been on the scene of the dragons’ rampage through Hogsmeade was sincere. If anyone could have helped, it would have been him, but it wasn’t as though anyone would have known to call on him, either. For all they had known—and for all most people still knew, including Parvati herself when she had woken up that morning—Harry Potter was dead. That wasn’t to say that she wasn’t appreciative of his words, but even the man in front of her was physically Ron Weasley. Harry would have been putting himself in even more danger, and what then?
He said that he knew that he shouldn’t have left like he did, and Parvati nodded as he said that he would explain when the time was right. She trusted him on that, even though she would have to live with a million questions and no answers until that time came. That was better than his being dead, certainly, so she knew that she couldn’t be so selfish. “And how… how’s Lily?”
“She’s alright,” Parvati answered him with a nod. That didn’t exactly explain why Harry was asking after his own daughter, but that was for another time. “I… I don’t know how she’ll react,” Parvati admitted gently to him, “to all of this…” It was a lot to take in for anyone; she didn’t know how Lily, especially would take it. “I know Adrian Gr—Lange, sorry—Adrian’s being back at Hogwarts has helped her,” she told him. “She’s not playing Quidditch this year, though,” she noted, which would probably be a disappointment to Harry. “And I… don’t exactly know what she’s going to be doing after Hogwarts, either, but I probably wouldn’t, either, if I were her…” Parvati shook her head. “She’s still as full of energy as ever,” she added on a more positive note. “But she seems to know her limits… Well, usually.”

Parvati seemed to be even more understanding than he expected any of his friends to be/. Maybe it was because she had always been level headed but it could have also been from her training as a counselor. Either way, he could have used someone like her when he was a lid going to school. He had her now though and that's what mattered. She answered about Lily, saying she was alright but not knowing how she would react. Harry felt an intense sense of regret at that, but he knew that she was right. Then Adrian was brought up and Harry felt the familiar sense of fury that accompanied the boys name. It was a strange feeling, knowing your daughter was growing closer to a boy than to you. He didn't like it as all, but he couldn't really be mad about it. He took in a deep breath - but then paused it halfway through when she mentioned that Lily wasn't playing quidditch. He frowned, wondering why. Because of him? "I'm glad her energy hasn't diminished... that's the best I can hope for, I think," he finally finished taking in that break he wanted. "Well, I'm glad she has you even if she doesn't utilize that much. As Head of House it's just good to know a friendly face is... around. Luna too, I'm sure Lily is happy about that..." he paused, "I've been considering trying for a position at Hogwarts. Maybe, with everything that's been going on, that's where I need to be right now."parvati patil macmillan

Harry expressed his thanks that Lily hadn't lost her energy, at least, and Parvati nodded. She hadn't done anything like lash out because of Harry's disappearance, which was relatively positive. Having him back, too, would hopefully help, but Parvati couldn't predict Lily's response. Ideally, of course, she'd be thrilled that Harry was safe and sound and that would be that. Realistically, however, Parvati couldn't give Harry any false hopes.
Lily had, even in her father's absence, had familiar faces around Hogwarts, as Harry pointed out, and he seemed to take comfort in knowing that. Parvati couldn't imagine how odd it must have been for him not to know what was happening with his family, not being able to reassure them that—contrary to almost everyone's beliefs—he was out there and still alive.
"I've been considering trying for a position at Hogwarts," Harry explained after a pause. At first, it sounded slightly sudden, as though it had only just dawned on him in talking about Hogwarts. As rash as Harry's decisions could be sometimes, and as much as he had had a thing for saving people, Hogwarts was quieter and probably not a bad place for him. If it hadn't been for his teaching them what Umbridge had forbidden in Defense Against the Dark Arts in fifth year, things could have ended up much worse than they had turned out to be.
Given that Harry's options were somewhat limited by his being Harry Potter, Parvati could understand the draw of taking up a position at Hogwarts. Though the Ministry was secure, Harry would be in an environment that wasn't so hostile at the school. Plus, Professor McGonagall probably wouldn't mind—well, not too much.
"Have you talked to Ginny about it?" Parvati asked, wondering how keen on the idea Ginny would be. She had only just gotten her husband back, after all, but it was Hogwarts; Harry would still be around, if not all of the time.

She asked if he had talked to Ginny about it at all, but he shook his head. "We had a lot of other things to discuss when I got home. I had just been thinking about it the last day or so." He really wanted to be there for Lily as well as be out of the danger zone when it came to the trials he was facing. Granted, he really didn't know if Hogwarts was the safest place but in a way he thought maybe it could be if he was there to help. Not that he didn't trust the other staff members, he was sure they were all excellent. Even though he hadn't met the Americans yet. "I'm interested in the prospect of a dueling class. All we had was the club when we were in school." He was also interested in the flying class, but he wasn't sure if he could take that far of a step away from his old job without seeming like too much of a coward. Not that he necessarily cared what people thought but nonetheless... he did care what people thought, in a way. "Does it sound crazy?" He asked her. parvati patil macmillan

Harry shook his head when she asked about if he had spoken to Ginny about it yet. They had had a lot of other things to discuss, he said, which must have been a complete understatement. Parvati couldn’t imagine what it had to have been like for Ginny to realize that Harry was back, and she figured that it wouldn’t hurt to speak with her, either, when they got the chance. There must have been a lot going through Ginny's mind, too. It had only been in the last day or so, Harry explained, that he had been thinking about Hogwarts as an option for… whatever this was now—a new start, perhaps? “I’m interested in the prospect of a dueling class,” he elaborated. “All we had was the club when we were in school.” A dueling class—not just the club—sounded useful. There was too much happening that the students needed to be prepared for. Most of them were already too aware of what was happening in the world—at Hogwarts previously and now increasingly beyond it. Something to give them a handle on what it was like to engage in combat but in a safe and controlled environment… It wasn’t unlike the D.A., Parvati thought to herself. "Does it sound crazy?" “No, it doesn’t,” Parvati assured Harry, hoping that she hadn’t made any expressions that would have made him think that it was a ridiculous idea. “Not—Not at all, actually,” she said, still thinking about it. “It would be helpful—not that I want any of the students to have to use that knowledge,” she hesitated, “but I think we all know the reality here… And if we can turn that into something positive, you know…” She would have been surprised if there was a student left at Hogwarts who wasn’t somehow affected by something that had happened over the past few years, and training them in how to fight properly and to defend themselves was important under any circumstances. “To be honest, Harry, I don’t think McGonagall would say no.”HARRY JAMES POTTER

Parvati said it didn't sound crazy at all, obviously very supportive of the idea. She said she didn't think Minerva would say no and he nodded, contemplating that. "I'll discuss it with Ginny. If nothing else at least it's another experienced adult at Hogwarts. Can't have too many of those," he remembered when Hogwarts was attacked and the students kidnapped. He and arrived too late to save all the kids, but he still did a lot of good when he had arrived. He just wished he had been there from the start. This way if, gods forbid, something happened again he would be right there. A part of him was afraid that Hogwarts has a way of breeding danger even though it didn't mean to. Knowledge was power and there were plenty who wanted to abuse it. He knew that better than most people, especially when it came to the witch hunters. The more they knew the more dangerous and powerful they were. He visibly shuddered. "I hope I can get Victoire to come to some sort of reconcilation... It'd be easier to talk to everyone all together about my findings" the news of his niece going all action had been troubling... Even if he was a tad proud. parvati patil macmillan

With the reassurance that she had given him that it wasn’t such a crazy idea after all, Harry said that he would discuss the possibility with Ginny. If nothing else, added Harry, it would mean having one more experienced adult at Hogwarts and that they couldn’t have too many of those. Parvati almost laughed until she remembered how much it would hurt to do so in her current state. It was true that they needed as many staff members with the kind of experience someone like Harry had as they could get, not that Harry Potters were easy to come by. Harry, who must have gotten lost in his thoughts for a moment, Parvati presumed, shuddered, and she wondered if he was alright. “I hope I can get Victoire to come to some sort of reconciliation,” he said. “It'd be easier to talk to everyone all together about my findings.” “Oh, that’s right. You weren’t exactly here for… that,” Parvati was reminded, since it was the matter of Harry’s being presumed dead or not that had led to the split in the Order. It still left a bad taste in her mouth. She hadn’t spoken to Victoire since that meeting, and Parvati was met with mixed feelings about that. Harry was alive, as Victoire had assumed he was, but she had wanted to jump into things and draw lines too quickly for Parvati’s comfort. “You said your ‘findings’, though?” she asked curiously. That had jumped out at her; what had Harry been doing? HARRY JAMES POTTER
