Claudia was definitely very different from other girls that Ashley knew, and it wasn't a bad thing. She had personality and seemed to actually be pretty fun, which was something Ashley appreciated. The conversation was flowing easily and Ashley was glad that she sat here. She laughed, "I doubt I'll even remember to tell Joe that you don't like Quidditch. Even if I did remember, I probably wouldn't make a big deal out of it." Honestly, Ashley didn't know if Joe would care that a stranger didn't like Quidditch or not. She knew that he liked to impress girls with it and that he'd be put out if she didn't cheer for him, but beyond that Ashley wasn't sure.
She chuckled when Claudia said that she thought the Quidditch team was fine. "I'm sure I'll know all about it soon enough." It was likely that Joe would want to tell her about the team once he learned more about it. "So what do you like to do when you're not dancing or annoying your brother?" Ashley asked. She was curious to see if the two had anything else in common, other than both having older brothers. It was a good start though.

Ashley asked what else Claudia liked to do for fun and the Slytherin shrugged. “Hogwarts is a school after all so it’s fairly boring most of the time. The Slytherin common room is a pretty cool place to hang out in, though. There are always some good people there, at least.” she explained. Claudia hated most of the school. “And there are quite a few boys who are always willing to have some fun.” she smirked. Claudia was a flirt when she wanted to be, which was fairly regularly, especially when she was bored. “And the village is cool when we’re allowed to go. There are a few decent shops.” Claudia liked to shop, she enjoyed clothing and she liked to spend money, but her parents didn’t enjoy her hobby as much as she did, they much preferred that she stick to dancing. “What about you?” she asked. “What do you like to do?”

Unlike Claudia, Ashley definitely didn't think school was boring. She enjoyed studying and all the different things she learned at Ilvermorny. Maybe the professors here were more boring than they were in America? She'd give them a chance before she made up her mind though. The idea of hanging out in the Slytherin common room sounded like fun. "Oooh, I'm going to have to try that," she answered with a smile. While Ashley often liked to be in the center of things, she was starting to appreciate people watching a bit more. Claudia made it sound like the common room was a good place to do that. A definite grin covered her face when Claudia mentioned there being a few boys who were up for some fun. "That's definitely a good thing," Ash agreed. She loved flirting with guys! She wasn't really interested in anything serious since she was still missing Eli, but nothing was ever going to happen there. The two of them hadn't even spoken since last spring.
At least the village sounded interesting. "Maybe we could go together sometime," Ashley suggested. She didn't want to push Claudia into something, but that sounded like it could be fun. "Then maybe you can show me the good shops." It would definitely be nice to have someone show her around that actually knew the place. When she asked about Ash's hobbies she shrugged a little. "I like singing, exploring a little, doing well in my classes and stuff. Nothing too excited," she admitted.

Ashley seemed to cling to the idea of the little village and suggested that they could go sometime. Claudia nodded, “Sure, yeah.” she agreed. She wasn’t sure if it would ever really happen. People were always making plans that they had no desire to follow through with, but if they did come to pass, she would be willing to show the new girl around the village. It was better than walking around on her own, she supposed. Though she always found someone to bother when she went on her own. There was always someone sitting alone or browsing alone, just waiting for some snarky girl to come and annoy them for a bit. Ashley then went on to explain what she liked to do, including singing and doing well on her classes. Claudia suppressed a laugh when she boasted about doing well in class, that was one of the last things on the Slytherin girls mind, but everyone had their thing. Maybe she was little bit more of a nerd than Claudia originally expected. “Is your voice any good then?” she asked.

Claudia didn’t seem super interested in the idea of taking Ashley to Hogsmeade, but that was okay. If she wanted to accompany Ash she definitely could and if she wasn’t in the mood … well Ashley was sure she could find someone that would want to show her around. She was trying to reach out to more people this year after all. She was sure she’d be able to figure something out.
She lifted an eyebrow when Claudia asked about her voice. “Yeah, it’s pretty good.” Ashley was being humble. She actually had an amazing voice, but she didn’t normally tell people about it. Sure, she told Eli about it last year, but that took her a while. Her parents just liked to show her off. “I like to sing when I have free time outside of school; I don’t normally tell lots of people about it though.” She wasn’t asking Claudia to keep it a secret per se, but she was telling her she didn’t always explain about it.

Claudia nodded when Ashley talked up her voice. She was a little relieved when Ashley said that she didn’t usually tell people about her voice and mostly just sung outside of school on her own free time. “So I take it you won’t be joining the frog choir then.” she teased. Claudia always thought that the frog choir was so cheesy. Sure, they sounded fairly good when they sung at school events, but it was still so dorky to be associated with them, she thought. Claudia wasn’t mean, but she did judge people unashamedly. She cared about who she was associated with and wanted to keep her own image clean. She looked to the front of the room when the professor finally decided to start the class, but she had no desire to actually pay attention.

The next thing Ashley knew, Claudia was mentioning some kind of a frog choir. Ashley's nose scrunched, her eyebrows furrowing as she shook her head. "A frog choir?! Merlin, no! I don't do choirs." Maybe that was arrogant of her, but she didn't blend with other voices. She preferred to stand out, which was not the point of a choir. Also, a choir named after frogs didn't appeal to her in the slightest. She jumped slightly when the professor started talking, though she glanced back over at Claudia. The girl was definitely interesting, but Ashley wasn't sure if she was the type of person who paid attention during class or not.

“Yeah, it’s kind of the big thing here. It’s traditional I think.” she explained. Whether Hogwarts had any other choirs or not, she had no idea. It wasn’t really something that Claudia paid any attention to. But the Frog Choir was hard to miss. They tended to sing at the big feasts, like Halloween and such. “So where are you from then?” Claudia asked, lowering her voice as the professor began to address the class. It was obvious from her voice that the blonde sitting beside her wasn’t from England like a majority of the Hogwarts students were. She had to be an American transfer, but she didn’t know from where in America she had lived. Not that Claudia knew much about America. She had never been.

Ashley scrunched her nose when Claudia explained a little more about the choir. "No. I prefer to sing on my own ... when I want." She was willing to do duets or to sing with people for fun, like she had with Sav over the summer, but that still wasn't a super common thing. More often than not, when Ashley sang it was in front of her parent's friends, and mostly because she didn't have a choice. That didn't mean she didn't bask in the attention or like it, but that was why she did it.
Claudia started whispering, asking another question and Ashley smiled. She loved it when people asked where she was from! "I'm from New York City," she whispered back, definite pride in her voice. Ashley loved her city, and how famous it was. She hadn't met someone who didn't know where the city was. It was way better than being from some tiny hole in the wall city. She decided to return the question, "Are you from London or ...?"

Ashley said that she was from New York City and Claudia nodded, of course she knew where that was, the New York Ballet was basically the American Ballet company, there was really none other in the same league. And anyone with any hopes of working there had to go to the American School of Dance, which obviously Claudia didn’t. That's why her goals stayed in England, or maybe in Russia. But the Royal Company was the main goal. That was the dream. “Yes from London.” she reported. London was one of the most popular and well known cities in the world, it not THE most known city. She loved being from London. “Have you gotten to spend much time in London?” she asked.

Ashley nodded as Claudia said she was from London and asked Ashley about it. She shrugged, "I haven't spent a ton of time there. We came over during the summer, but I-" Ashley cut off when she heard the teacher calling her name. "Miss Fontaine, Miss Watkins! Is it too much to expect the two of you to actually pay attention in my class?" The teacher, whose name Ashley hadn't bothered to learn yet, was obviously frustrated with the two of them. Had she been trying to get their attention for a while now? Ashley sat up taller as everyone in the class turned to look at her and Claudia. "Sorry Ma'am," she answered in a clear voice, moving her hands to place on her desk as she turned so she was facing the front of the room. Hopefully the professor wouldn't make too big a deal out of this.

Just as Ashley was explaining that she hadn’t got to spend much time in London, the professor yelled over to them, pausing class to call them out. While Ashley might have felt a little embarrassed, Claudia just bit back a smirk. This wasn’t exactly an uncommon occurrence for her, and she kind of liked the attention that it gave her anyway. Everyone’s eyes turned to her. “Sorry professor.” Claudia replied, but still had to try hard to hold the smile back. Once the professor returned to the subject at hand. Claudia leaned over and whispered. “Sorry, that’s the danger of being friends with me.” she didn’t try to hide the smirk anymore, but she didn’t speak another word for the rest of the lesson. Instead, she doodled on her notebook and rolled her ankles under the desk to work on some of her physical therapy.
