It was Christmas day and Kinsey was in Hogwarts, like she'd planned. She didn't go home for the holiday, not wanting to cause unnecessary stress with her family, or make Dustin feel like he had to stay away because of her. It was strange, being in the castle still with the small amount of people that decided to stay. Even stranger to wake up and find her gifts at the foot of her bed. She smiled as she saw the gifts, then the thought occurred to her. She had a gift to deliver. She hadn't put her name on it or anything, not wanting to make things awkward. Maybe she should hurry and put it at the foot of Riley's bed before he woke up. Then he wouldn't have to know it was from her.
Kinsey rose quickly, getting dressed and ready for the day just in case she ran into anyone on her way. She tucked the wrapped present under her arm and quietly made her way out of her dorm. She walked to the common room, tiptoeing on her way to Riley's dorm. She'd never gone close to the men's dorms before, but there were numbers on the doors. Kinsey assumed they represented the year for the students inside, so she went to number 7 and opened it ever so slowly. It seemed like everyone inside was still sleeping, she thought. As quietly as possible, she opened the door just enough that she'd be able to go inside. There were a few beds that had presents on them, so she was trying to figure out how to determine which one was Riley's without being super creepy when she heard someone moaning and starting to sit up. She froze, feeling her face turn bright red. Maaaaaaybe this wasn't the best idea.

Riley Fudge never cared much for Christmas. It never really meant anything more than gifts for his family. The Fudge family didn’t spend any more time together on the holiday than they did any other time of the day. A quick present opening, a silent and formal dinner, and then everyone was on their own again. But today, he woke up early in particularly good spirits. Maybe simply because he wasn’t at his home and he didn’t have to see his family, or his fiancee. He could be at the castle with his friends, well, at least the few who stayed. He got up before the sun and went to the bathroom down the hall where he took a shower and got ready. Once he was dressed, he carried his things back down the hall to his dorm, shaking his hair out in a towel as he did so. But then he spotted the figure in the doorway as he approached. He chuckled, “Trying to catch a glimpse of Jack sleeping? I don’t blame you, he’s got that awesome accent.” he teased the girl, scooting past her into his dorm room.

Thankfully, the person who moaned didn't actually sit up. Instead they rolled over, moaning some more as they went back to sleep. Yeah, this definitely wasn't a good idea. Kinsey was backing out of the room, when she heard a familiar voice chuckling and then speaking. She jumped, squealing a little as she turned to face him. "Riley! I - I thought you were asleep," she admitted covering her heart with her free hand, holding his present behind her back with the other. She blushed and shook her head, "N-no, I wasn't trying to watch Jack." That was when she actually looked at Riley. His hair was wet and she blushed a little more. "I'm sorry, we c-can meet later or something," she stammered, starting to back away from him. She didn't want to leave Riley, but he'd just come out of the bathroom, carrying clothes and his hair was wet ... and she'd never meant to give him his present in person anyway. She looked down at the floor, still edging away little by little.

He gave a smirk at the sight of her, nervous and red faced at his teasing. She was quite the easy target, but he never meant any harm. “Ooh so you were trying to spy on me then?” he asked, once again, teasing as he shook out his hair once again into his towel before hanging his towel near the fire in the room to dry. “Smooth, Ms. Bainbridge, I never pegged you for a stalker.” he just couldn’t help himself. He knew that she had probably just come up to say hi or see what he was up to, but was caught off guard when he bumped into her. He didn’t really think any of these things about her. “Nah, you’re here now, you can come in. He’s a heavy sleeper. I wouldn’t worry about waking him.” Riley told her. “Happy Christmas, Kinsey.” he smiled at her.

Kinsey knew that Riley was teasing her. She could tell that by the easygoing smirk on his face, but at the same time she still felt the need to defend herself. "No! I wasn't trying to spy," she argued, but he was still teasing her, calling her a stalker. Kinsey shook her head, chuckling softly. "That's because I'm not one, you tease," she told him firmly, trying to make herself stop the blush by sheer force of will. It wasn't as easy as that though. Riley told her to come in and Kinsey stepped into the room timidly, still feeling strange. Even though she and Riley dated for quite a few months last year, she'd never gone into his room before. That was probably why she'd had such a hard time trying to walk in right now. She smiled at his words. "Happy Christmas, Riley," she echoed. "Th-that's actually why I was coming here ... I have a gift for you." Kinsey pulled the wrapped gift out from behind her back, showing it to Riley with a hesitant smile. "I wasn't sure if you'd want me to give it to you in person, or leave it at the foot of your bed with the others," she admitted softly.

Riley laughed and gave in when she defended herself and called him a tease. He was found out, plus, he didn’t want to carry the joke on for too long and make it not so funny anymore. He knew when to quit, most of the time. She bid him a happy christmas as well and then began to say that christmas was actually the reason that she had come up looking for him. She had a gift for him and she was just going to leave it at the foot of his bed. “You didn’t have to get me a gift, but since you did of course I want it in person from you.” he told her. He hadn’t been expecting anything from her. “I actually have something for you too.” he told her, reaching into the top drawer of his nightstand where he had been keeping it since the summer, when he bought it. He pulled out a small, brown box. He hadn’t wrapped it, since he wasn’t sure that he was going to give it to her, he didn’t want to upset her with it, but he had got it for her.

Kinsey shrugged when Riley said she didn't have to give him a gift. She knew she didn't have to. She'd actually made this gift for him. She'd started making it in the summer, she'd almost finished before summer was over and somehow in the last few months she'd finished it. "I know I didn't have to," she answered softly. Maybe this was a mistake. If Priscilla knew she was giving him a gift, she'd be furious, Kinsey knew. She bit her lip nervously. Then he said that he had something for her and her eyes widened. "You got something for me?" Kinsey's heart filled with excitement, though she tried to tame it down. "I guess ... we exchange them at the same time?" She held her gift out, in case he was ready to switch. Inside was a handmade blanket. She'd learned how to crochet this summer, making a blue and bronze blanket for Riley, with a Ravenclaw emblem on one corner, his initials underneath. She'd put her initials there too, before the breakup. She'd tried to cover her initials up with decorations, but if one knew they were there, the initials were easy to see.

She suggested that they exchange them at the same time and he nodded, though his palms were sweating a little bit as he held the little box out of her. While they were in Brighton, over the summer, he had found a little pair of earrings that had been handmade with sea glass that had been found on the beach in Brighton. He got them for her as a way to remember their trip, and after their break up, he had thought not to give them to her incae she didn’t want to remember their trip. But he didn’t know what else to do with them. They weren’t exactly something that Priscilla would wear. He took the package from her and let her take the little box from him. He opened it and look the sight in. He hadn’t been expecting something like this. He wasn’t sure what he expected, but it wasn’t anything as cool or sweet as a homemade blanket. He unfolded it and saw her initials. “Kinsey this is amazing. And very well done, did you make this?” he asked her, a genuinely large smile across his face.

Kinsey took the box from Riley, hesitating just a second before she opened it. Her eyes widened as she saw the sea glass earrings. She recognized them, remembering seeing thins like this in the little shops they'd walked past when they were in Brighton together. She smiled, touching the earrings gently. "Riley, they're beautiful," she whispered, not pulling her eyes away from the earrings. He'd kept these all this time for her? She was pulled from her own thoughts when he mentioned that her blanket was amazing. She looked up at him, her smile shy once again. "I, I did. Mostly, I made it during the summer." She shrugged, hoping that he wouldn't think it was too weird. He did say it was amazing though. She just felt a bit self-conscious about it. "Thought you might like it still maybe," Kinsey whispered, glancing away from him.

She liked the earrings. His heart felt like it might leap out of his chest. He knew that she would like them, she knew that he would like anything that he gave her, but, he didn’t want the earrings to make her sad because they would bring back memories of their summer of love spent in Brighton, England. It had been an amazing trip and he loved just getting to spend time with her without anyone else that they knew around them. “I’m glad you like them, I thought that you would.” Obviously, that was why he got them. They made him think of her from the moment that he saw them. Even if she didn’t wear a lot of jewelry, he thought that she would like them for a day where she wanted to dress up a little. She confirmed that she had made it during the summer and he nodded, “Of course I like it. I love it. I can’t believe that I didn’t know that you knew how to do this.” he really had no clue that she was creative at all.

Kinsey looked up to Riley, nodding as he answered that he thought she'd like them. "They're beautiful," she repeated. "And ... they have good memories attached." She touched the earrings gently again. Her summer trip with Riley. Those were some memories she wanted to keep with her forever, much like the memories she was making right now with him. Some of their last, since he'd be getting married sooner than she wanted to think about. Her smile turned a little more embarrassed when he complimented the blanket, insisting that he loved it and he didn't know she knew how to make something like that. She shrugged a little, "I ... might have taught myself this summer," she admitted. Every time she saw his hoodie or the necklace she wore all the time, she was reminded of Riley and of the fact that she hadn't given him anything. She wanted to make something for him, something that could remind him of her. Just like his gifts reminded her of him and comforted her when she was having a hard time. She hadn't even suspected that they wouldn't be together anymore when she made it.
She glanced around his dormroom, where the rest of the boys his age were still sleeping. "You want to open the rest of your gifts now? Or ... we could do something," she suggested. Kinsey didn't want to make Riley feel like he had to do something with her, but it was Christmas. She wanted to spend it with him, as long as he didn't mind.

Riley watched Kinsey speak with amazement on his face. She had taught herself this over the summer so that she could make this blanket for him. “You amaze me.” he admitted out loud, it was so true. She kept him on his toes, she continued to grow and develop and she learned this new skill that he had never even thought of learning. His mom didn’t make things. There was no way that Priscilla or Lydia would ever learn something like this, but Kinsey would, and Riley loved that about her. She was trying to learn and grow. She wasn’t staying stagnant and expecting everyone else to do everything for her.
Riley saw her glance around the room and remembered that Jack was still sleeping in here, and he had moved the pillow over his head. Riley gave an internal laugh. “Yeah, do you want to go get breakfast?” he asked, feeling her desire to get out of this space. It was maybe a little awkward for her.

Kinsey's face grew hot when she heard Riley mutter that she amazed him. That was a good thing, right? It definitely sounded like it, the way his voice was so soft and pleased. She smiled over at him, feeling a longing so strong she wished there was something she could do about it. "It's not perfect Riley," she muttered, looking down at the earrings again. "There a few sections where I messed up, so it's not entirely smooth and matching like most blankets are." Kinsey was still ridiculously pleased by his compliment, but trying to downplay her part. When she saw the blanket, she thought of her excitement when she was making it for him, but she also just saw the flaws in it.
Riley asked if she wanted to get breakfast and Kinsey looked up at him, her smile instant. "Yeah, that'd be nice." She laughed softly, rising back to her feet. "I doubt most people are up this early, so we might have the Great Hall all to ourselves." It sounded like wishful thinking, but maybe not. It was a holiday. Did people want to get up early or relax? "I can wait in the common room while you put your things away," she suggested quietly, still smiling just a little.

Kinsey began to insist that the blanket wasn’t perfect, and she explained all of the little mistakes that she had made on it, but he just shrugged. “It being perfect or not isn’t what make me love it.” he told her. He loved it just because she made it. It was obvious that it hadn’t been made by a professional, but he liked that it looked like it was obviously made by her.
She agreed to go and have breakfast with him and then suggested that she would wait in the great hall for him while he put his things away. For a second he had forgotten that he had just gotten out of the shower and that he still had his pajamas and toiletries sitting on his bed. He should tidy those away before he left. “Alright. I’ll meet you down in a minute, then.” he agreed and then quickly tidied everything away before putting on is shoes and a sweater and going down to find her again.

Riley's shrug reaffirmed what he told Kinsey, about not caring if the blanket was perfect or not. She blushed when he said that that wasn't why he loved it. He loved it? She blushed, smiling and looking down at his words. She loved that he loved it. She'd been so nervous that he would think it was inappropriate for her to give him something, or that he wouldn't want something with her initials (hidden though she tried to make them). Kinsey knew Priscilla wouldn't approve, but Riley's reaction was just what she hoped for. He liked it! "I'm glad you like it," she answered softly.
He seemed surprised when Kinsey suggested waiting for him, but he quickly agreed and Kinsey nodded, rising to her feet again and making her way out of his dorm, carrying the box with her earrings in it. She got into the common room and stared down at the beautiful things before deciding to put them on. They matched well enough with her clothes today, and even if they didn't she wouldn't care. She wanted to wear them. She stood up and walked to a mirror in the corner, smiling as she turned her head and admired them. They were beautiful.
Kinsey heard Riley coming down the stairs and turned to smile at him. "You all ready for breakfast now?" she asked brightly. She walked over and linked her arm with his, pausing a moment after doing so. Was she being too forward? She wasn't trying to be, Kinsey was just in a good mood and it had seemed like a natural move. She decided to pretend like she wasn't worried about his reaction. "Well, let's go," she encouraged, squeezing his arm a little as she started to move, mentally hoping that he wouldn't mind.
