The New Year’s party was today! Ashley was extremely excited for the entire event, mostly due to the fact that Eli was supposed to come. He’d told her weeks ago, that day when she kissed him. The two hadn’t spoken about it, not even that day. She could tell, just by looking at Eli’s face, that her actions stunned him and Ashley couldn’t bring it up since. She didn’t want to make Eli tell her that he wasn’t interested in her like that. It was much easier to just pretend like it didn’t happen. She hadn’t even told Joe about the whole thing, nervous about what her older brother would think. He’d probably call her out on being a coward, but then again maybe not. The past few months the two of them grew closer than she ever expected. He’d been more understanding this semester, even though he still teased her mercilessly. That was just Joe. Still, the party should be starting soon and Ashley couldn’t contain her excitement. She was all ready for the event, naturally. Her parents got her a red dress, about knee length with three quarter sleeves made out of lace. She had her makeup done to match. Her hair was down and in curls, the way she thought Eli liked best, but she wasn't sure. Either way, she felt pretty and all ready for the party. The only thing that was missing were the people and there wasn’t anything she could do about that. The portkeys would activate when someone touched them, once the party was supposed to start. There was nothing she could do to speed up that process. So instead Ashley searched for her other brother, figuring that he could help entertain her until things started to pick up. The only problem was, sometimes he was hard to find. “Joe!” she called, walking through their mansion. She checked his room, the kitchen … where was he? “Joseph Fontaine!” Ashley called, figuring he’d appear faster if she used his full name, since he hated it. @joseph Ashley's Dress

Joe was in his room but in the walk in closet, attempting to tie his tie in front of a floor length mirror. He was having issues because his hands were kind of shaky; he was actually kind of nervous to see Dom. Which was super weird. He never got nervous about these kind of things, he always had dates to his parents parties, they actually highly encouraged it. After a couple of brief encounters, she was really growing on him. He wanted to learn more about her and spend as much time as he could with her. The girl was a firecracker and she knew how to keep him entertained.
At first he didn't hear his sister calling his name because he was focused on what he was doing, but when she called out his full name, it struck a cord. Joe popped his head out of his bedroom, somewhat curious to what his sister wanted. "Joseph Fontaine ?" he called out with a laugh. "Am I in trouble?" he asked with hesitation, his first instinct was to hide usually when his full name was used. Joe couldn't remember doing anything bad today. Or this week. Luckily, they had been on each others good sides mostly lately, even with the extra amount of time they were stuck spending together at home. It was really nice. Joe liked that their relationship didn't feel strained like it often did in the past. He liked that they could be more open with one another.
Joe stepped into the hallway where he heard Ashley calling him, the tie still dangling loosely around his neck. When he saw sister, he gave her a curt nod. "You look nice." he stated.

Ashley was walking down the hallway, away from her brother's room, when she heard his voice behind her. Ashley paused and turned around, surprised to see that he was in his room. "I just looked in there! Where were you?" She demanded, ignoring his question for the moment. He wasn't really in trouble, she just wanted to see him before the party started and knew it was the easiest way to find him. Then she smirked, "I'm not entirely sure yet," Ash answered, tapping her chin thoughtfully, "Spend some time with me before the party starts and you won't be?" She was pretty sure he'd agree. He looked almost ready for the party, so maybe he'd want some sort of a distraction too.
She moved closer to her older brother, smiling and giving a small curtsy at his compliment. "Thanks. You look pretty good too," Ash giggled, "but you might want to get that tie done up before people start arriving." She couldn't resist the temptation to tease him a little bit, especially since she was fairly certain he wouldn't take offense to it.

When Ashley interrogated him asking where he was, he didn't feel the need to answer because she saw where he walked out. He simply shrugged because he honestly didn't hear her calling him from his room the first couple of times, he was fussing with the stupid tie.. Blame it on selective hearing. She asked about hanging out before the big event and he nodded in agreement, "Did you invite anyone special tonight?" he asked her with a smirk, wondering if she had a date or not. They hadn't talked much about that. He had his own date, Dom, so she wouldn't have to worry about him harassing them if she did have a date. Ashley made a remark about the tie and he took a step forward toward her."Make yourself useful and help me then." he demanded with an eye roll, gesturing to his tie.

Joe didn't really answer her question, which really wasn't a surprise to Ashley. He generally didn't answer questions like that, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Ash didn't really care. Somehow he'd been in the room and she hadn't noticed him, but he wasn't hiding from her, which was a good thing. He agreed to hang out with her and Ashley grinned. Maybe doing something with Joe- even just talking- would help her relax before the party started. She shrugged at his question, "Maybe I did ... are you going to scare him away if I admit it?" A part of her wanted to tell Joe about Eli, but she was still nervous to. She knew he could be protective of her. All her family got protective of her. "What about you? Do you have a special date coming?" She laughed when Joe told her to help him with the tie. She stepped forward, reaching up and tying it for him. This wasn't the first time she tied a tie for him. When she was done she stepped back. "How's that?" Ashley asked, expecting Joe to say he liked it.

Joe expected Ashley to stay secretive about her date, she was generally that way when he asked her about guys. But that wasn't without good reason.. Not too long ago, he cared too much about figuring that out... these days he was too busy with other matters to seek out guys that she liked just to make them uncomfortable. Joe grew up in a sense, he started to realize he didn't delve too deeply into his little sisters business, or be an annoying pest, they could potentially have a relationship. He felt really good about how far they have come after moving to the UK. Things were definitely changing.
As she fixed his tie, he crouched down a bit so that she would have better access, he was relieved to get help. His green eyes narrowed at her slightly at her accusation, trying to hide the unintended guilty look spreading across his face. "I won't do anything to him, I swear." Joe reassured her with an eye roll before cocking his head to the side, "Do I know him?" he asked expectantly, seeking some sort of hint. She asked him if he had a date of his own and he smirked slightly, "Yes, I have a super hot date set up for tonight." Joe gushed, more to throw it in her face. If she told him who she was bringing, maybe he'd tell her about Dom. She finished the tie and he took a look in the mirror, nodding in approval, "That's much better. Thanks, sis." he patted her on the back lightly. "Now are you gonna tell me, or are you gonna do the whole...'If you tell me yours, I'll tell you mine' crap." Joe snorted jokingly, mimicking her in a girlish voice and dainty wave of the hand in the air towards her.

It was interesting to think about how things had changed between Ashley and Joe over the last few months. Sure, she always considered herself closer with Joe than with either of her other brothers, but over the last while they'd become closer even with seeing one another less frequently. Hopefully that would change with having dinner a few nights a week once they got back to school, but Ashley would have to see how that went. Either way, the change was interesting because before today, Ashley would never have considered telling Joe about a guy she liked, especially one she liked as much as she did Eli. But she was considering it.
Her eyes narrowed as she paused in tying Joe's tie, looking into his eyes to see if he was telling the truth when he said he wouldn't do anything to the guy. After a second she nodded, "Okay ..." She continued tying the tie, mind working double time because she could sense that Joe was actually serious. She shrugged a little, "I don't know ... you could know him. He's in your year and went to Ilvermorny with us, but he was and is in a different house and I don't think I've ever seen you talk with him or anything ..." She wasn't sure if Eli was the kind of person Joe would acknowledge, really.
Joe admitted to having a "super hot" date and Ashley laughed, "Sounds like somebody's excited," she sang just to tease him, finishing up tying his tie with a flourish. She nodded when he said it looked much better. Of course it did. She was good at doing that. Then he was teasing her and Ashley rolled her eyes. The thing was, she'd just barely decided that she kind of wanted to tell Joe. She bit her lip for a second before acting on her decision. "D'you know Elijah Fleming? He's a Hufflepuff now, really likes plants and creatures ..." she trailed off, watching Joe's facial expressions. "That's who I invited." She shrugged her shoulders, turning to look at herself in a mirror in his room now, mostly because she didn't want to look at her older brother.

Joe could tell by the look on Ashley's face that she wanted to tell him. He was glad too, because he was very nosey and . Joe listened as Ashley got really intense before telling him about her date. Once she mentioned who it was, it kind of made sense. Joe couldn't remember ever seeing them hanging out together, but she had always been good at hiding those things from him. He tried to his the surprise in his expression, but it was difficult. "Eli...Fleming?" Joe repeated after her in disbelief, furrowing a brow at her. When she explained him being a Hufflepuff, liking plants and creatures, he had to refrain from puking. "That dork?" he asked, chuckling for a good moment...maybe too long. He had to give his sister a tough time, it was his duty as an older brother to make her uncomfortable about it. Then, she shrugged he simply off. "Okay, that's...cute." he told her plainly, not really feeling much about it. Out of all of the guys she could have chosen, she could have chosen worse. Eli was a nice guy, dorky, but nice. @ashley

Joe was uncharacteristically quiet while he was waiting for her answer. Ashley was nervous to tell him she liked Eli, but it was now or never. She didn’t want to have to deal with Joe finding out who Eli was without her telling him. He looked surprised, even though she could tell he tried to hide it. Ashley cringed a little bit when Joe repeated his name. “Yeah?” she knew she liked Eli, but she was definitely nervous about Joe’s reaction. “He’s nice and fun and … he helped me find a way to get rid of my migraines. I dunno … he doesn’t even know. I, we’re just friends.” Which wasn’t what she wanted, but Ashley also didn’t know how to change that.
She glanced up to her brother. It was kind of a relief to have everything out in the open now … on her side. Now it was his turn. “What about your date? You haven’t told me anything …” Ash trailed off, giving Joe a sweet smile and hoping he’d tell her. Surely he would, since she gave in and told him about her date.

When Ashley shared a bit more about Eli Fleming, mentioning he had helped her with her migraines, it had piqued his interest ever so slightly. Migraines were something Joe knew Ashley suffered from frequently in the past. Cocking his head to the side, he smirked at Ashley, "How did he help you get rid of your migraines?" Joe asked her curiously, quirking an eyebrow at her while nudging her. Something told him that Ashley liked Eli a lot more than she wanted him to know, which was hilarious to him. He wasn't looking to conspire against her date tonight, not when he had his own date to tend to. He was getting too old to care about what she was doing.
Joe knew she wanted to hear about his date by the look on her face. She had just spilled her own personal information so she was obviously waiting for Joe to share his own. He smiled with a shrug, trying to hide any bashfulness about Dom. Joe didn't want her to know that even he got nervous about dating at times. "Her name is Dom Weasley and I met her in Hogsmeade randomly a couple of months ago. She's really nice and fun to hang out with. You'll like her. " Joe insisted, never really caring in the past if Ashley would like someone or not but he knew that Dom was cool.

Joe was smirking at her and Ashley glanced away, a little nervous. What was he smirking about? Then he asked about how Eli helped get rid of Ashley's migraines and she felt herself relax a little. She gave a soft laugh before starting to explain. "Well, he introduced me to the Feverfew flower, which is a natural headache remedy. He helped me come up with a way to make it into a potion too, so I've been able to take it for all but the worst migraines for the last year or so." It had actually been longer than a year, but Joe didn't really need to know that. He might not like that if she told him.
He shrugged before finally speaking and Ashley smiled when he started. A Weasley. She'd heard about them a bit, but she hadn't actually spoken to any of them, that she knew of. "Oooh, does that mean I'll get to meet her tonight?" she asked her older brother, actually liking that idea. She didn't want to grill Dom or anything, that wasn't Ashley's style, but she wouldn't mind meeting her. She couldn't remember the last time she met someone Joe took out on a date. "What house is she in?" Ashley asked curiously.

Joe listened closely when his sister shared more intimate details about her and Herbology Boys encounters. She was totally digging him. Joe wasn't going to tease her about it in the moment, but he'd definitely use it as leverage later. "That's actually really sweet." Joe cooed, nudging her in the side in a brotherly fashion. He actually did think that was nice of Eli, he mentally won some brownie points after learning the above information.
The smile on his sisters face when he talked about the redhead made him nervous. "Yeah, you can meet her if you want... We're not dating or anything like that, so don't embarrass me, and I won't embarrass you." Joe told her seriously. Well, more of a threat than gentle reminder...
Joe couldn't hide the smirk from his face before he answered Ashlley question of what house Dom was in, because he knew that she would expect him to bring someone from school. "She doesn't go to Hogwarts anymore, but she was a Ravenclaw. She's, like...five years older.." he said with a straight face, feigning nonchalance about the matter - more so that he could get the satisfaction of his sisters reaction. Dom was only a year older than him, so it wasn't much of a big deal, but he was sure his sister would have something to say about it.

Ashley knew that Joe was teasing her when he said that what Eli did was sweet, but he was listening. She’d never told him something about a guy like this because she’d always assumed he’d overreact and torment the poor guy. Now, when it actually mattered to her, he was teasing her but it didn’t seem like Joe was about ready to find Eli and beat him up. Ash would consider that a win. She gave a soft smile, nudging her brother back. “I think so. He’s really nice and it’s easier to be myself around him.” There were few people Ashley felt like she could really be herself with. Joe was one. Eli was another. Other than them, it kind of depended.
Ashley laughed when Joe told her not to embarrass him. “I don’t want to embarrass her! I’m just curious to meet her. It’s been a while since I met one of your dates.” A long while, really. She’d met the girl Joe dated last year, and she’d seen Kinsey Bainbridge (Joe’s new favorite person) here and there, but this seemed a little different. Was Joe actually nervous about tonight? “Besides, I don’t want you to embarrass me, so I wouldn’t,” she reminded him. Ash didn’t want him doing anything in front of Eli. She wouldn’t take that chance.
Joe answered that Dom didn’t go to Hogwarts anymore, which was a bit surprising, but not a bad thing. More, interesting. He was bringing a graduate. Then her eyes widened and her next words came out in a surprised rush. “Five years older?!? Where the heck did you meet her? And why are you bringing her home on a date?” A year or two, sure, but five? Why was she even interested in Joe, someone who hadn’t even graduated yet? An instant pit of dislike started to form in Ashley’s stomach. If this girl was playing her brother, Ash would do all she could to separate them.

When Ashley told Joe that she found it easiest to be herself around Eli, he had to resist the urge to puke, but that was also a great thing. Her and Eli had gotten close at Hogwarts it seemed. Good for them. Joe didn't really care about what they did because he didn't see Eli Fleming as a threat, dorks were a 'safe choice' - he was the kind of guy he'd probably want his sister to go for... Not that he'd admit that out loud. "That's really good. That's all that matters for that kind of stuff." Joe said with a nod, suddenly feeling more mature. "I won't embarrass you, if you don't embarrass me." he held out a hand to seal the deal.
Joe watched the expression on his sisters face change and it gave him instant satisfaction. His mouth gaped open, eyes widening with hers, "Oh my God, I'm just messin' with you, Ash!!" he exclaimed with a dark chuckle, patting her on the back reassuringly. Now, he'd tell her the truth since she was so honest with him and he didn't want to ruin this nice sibling moment. "Dom is only a year older than me, she graduated last year. I met her on a Hogsmeade weekend by chance and we've been hanging out ever since she has a job there." he shared with Ashley easily, waiting to see her expression change again.

Ashley was proud of Joe and pleased by the fact that he wasn't making fun of her yet. She wasn't quite sure if this was really happening, because he'd never been so calm when she talked about another boy before. Could it be that the two of them were growing up? She nodded when he said that it was good she trusted Eli, not a hint of anger or brotherly jealousy on him. Wow. He held out his hand and Ashley smirked as she took it and shook. "I'm not going to embarrass you," she promised as she shook his hand. She wanted that to be perfectly clear.
Then, he admitted about her date and Ashley could admit that she overreacted. Then again, she didn't care much. The woman was five years older than him?! Really? And Joe thought this was a good idea! She let her feelings out, feeling righteous indignation when her brother's eyes widened and his mouth dropped open before he said he was just messing around. Ashley's glared at him fiercely. "That is not funny, Joseph Fontaine," she said in her most serious voice. He did that on purpose, just to upset her. She was about to turn and just leave so she could let off her steam, but then he started talking again, explaining more about Dom. Ashley watched him as he spoke, searching for any signs that he was still teasing her, but her expression softened slightly as he explained. "Okay ... I guess she doesn't sound bad," she mumbled, still a little angry at her brother for teasing her like that. It was not funny. "So you've seen her like three or four times then?" she asked. Which Hogsmeade visit did he meet Dom at?
