Ashley was so ready for this party. She felt like she'd been waiting years, even though it was only weeks. In all honesty, she was so excited because Eli was coming. She didn't know when he'd arrive, right when it started or later on, but she couldn't wait to have him here. She hoped to dance with him and basically just have a good time together. He was her best friend and despite the fact that she'd confessed all her feelings to him the other day when he was unconscious, she felt comfortable around him. The party began a short while ago. To start with, Ashley was greeting people as they arrived. Really she was doing this so she'd know when Eli got here, but there were a few people she talked to as they appeared via portkey. It was starting to get late enough that she should probably go into the mansion, but she didn't really want to yet. Her smile widened when she saw a familiar face. "Sav! How are you doing?" she asked, approaching him. Sav was a good friend, someone Ash felt like she could talk to as a general rule. Maybe he'd help her not be bored while she waited for Eli, even though she wasn't about to tell him that that was what she was doing. Savtaj Daniel MacMillan Ashley's Dress

Sav hadn’t expected to go to this party in New York. He was invited along with every other student in the school, and while he wasn’t usually one to turn down a party, but something like this, something so far away and such a big deal, made him a little bit uncomfortable. He left like something like this he should only go to if he was invited in person. But, Hugo, who he was staying with for the holidays, was going and he convinced Sav to come along. So Sav MacMillan took the portkey with his friend across the sea and they landed in America. He felt extremely weird about this being his first time in America, but he wasn’t sure that it counted since he was barely in the country, he was just in his friends house.
Sav spotted Ashley after she called to him and started approaching, Hugo had ran ahead to find someone and Sav had taken his time walking up the drive. “Hey, Ash.” he responded with a smile to the blonde girl. “It’s good to see you. What are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be inside and enjoying your party?” he asked. It was cold out, not as cold as it was in England, but still cold.

Sav was smiling at her when she approached, which Ashley definitely considered a good thing. They were friends, she'd actually admitted her feelings about Eli to him during the school year, though she'd never given him a name. Ashley was sure that Sav wouldn't mind spending some time with her, and she was also positive that he'd be a good distraction from her disappointment if Eli didn't show. She was already a little disappointed that she hadn't seen Eli yet. Either way, she was glad to see a good friend here. "It's nice to see you too. I'm glad you came." She gave a little self-conscious chuckle, "I was starting to think that none of my British friends would be able to make it here." Mostly, she was teasing, but not entirely. Ashley shrugged at his question. "I don't know, just greeting people? It's boring standing in an empty dance room and watching people arrive one-by-one. Much better to just be here." Especially if she was looking for someone. "Want to come in with me?" Ashley asked. She needed a distraction, so it wasn't so obvious to anyone that looked at her that she was waiting for someone. Ashley admitted to being glad to see him and teasingly admitted that she was starting to think that none of her brittish friends would come to the party. He couldn’t imagine that many people would pass up a party, but, he could understand that people would already have plans with their family or friends before the party invite was sent out. Being with Hugo for the break, Sav was mostly resigned to doing whatever his friend and his family wanted to do. “Well I’m glad I could save you from being alone.” Though he did hope that he wasn’t the only Hogwarts student there, that would weird for sure. She explained that she was having more fun out here greeting people than standing on an empty dance floor along and Sav began to worry that he was one of the first people here. He never liked being the first person at a party, though it happened on more than one occasion. At least Hugo was around somewhere, and he could always talk to Ashley for a while. “Yeah I’ll go with you.” he agreed. “How has your break been?” he asked as they walked up the drive.

Ashley smiled and nodded when Sav said he was glad he could save her from being alone. "Me too!" At least she could have fun with a friend until Eli showed up. She wasn't entirely sure when that's going to be. "I actually ... have a friend who should be coming, but I have no idea when he's going to get here," she admitted in a soft voice. She wasn't ashamed of Eli, but she was a little nervous that maybe he'd change his mind and wouldn't be able to make it. "I'm nervous he won't be able to make it." Wait. Why was she telling Sav all this? Sure, he knew that she had a crush on someone she didn't think would ever like her. She'd told him more than she'd told a lot of her friends, but this was more than she expected. "Distract me?" she asked with a hopeful expression. Sure, he said he'd go with her, but that didn't mean he wanted to hang around with her for a while. She shrugged as he asked about her break. "It's been good. I enjoyed Christmas with my family. I got to go to the Winter Festival, but I was also there for the dragon attack. Were you there that day?" She looked up at Sav curiously. They weren't too far away from the mansion now. Ashley admitted that she had a friend coming and she needed a distraction until he came. He? Sav couldn’t help a little smirk. “Who’s this friend? Someone I should be worried about?” he teased, wrapped his arm around her shoulders. While Sav had really loved going on his blind date with Ashley over the summer, he had no romantic feelings for the American girl whatsoever. Which was weird for him, since he wasn’t sure that he had ever been just friends with a girl without keeping some sort of attraction. Maybe it was because they got along so well and still had some sort of a flirtationship, even if it was just for fun.
She then told him that she went to the Winter festival and was there for the dragon attack. “Yeah I was there.” Sav admitted. He had gone with Hugo but the two had lost one another when the attack first started. He found his friend again while he fought a dragon. Hugo had been helping Lusie Windsor while Sav was attempting to distract the dragon that was after them. “I’m glad you weren’t hurt.” he admitted. He was glad that overall, most people had escaped the attack in good condition.

Ashley rolled her eyes at Sav's teasing. The two hadn't spoken in a while, but they were close enough friends that she knew he wouldn't be offended or anything. "He's the friend I told you about," she answered, in a tone that indicated Sav should've already known that, not that she really expected him to worry about it. "I don't know, does it worry you for me to be meeting someone else?" she quirked an eyebrow at him, smirking slightly. What? It was just so easy to flirt with Sav. He'd been at Hogsmeade that day. The day of the attack. She nodded a little when he told her so, not really sure what to say. A quick blush crept up her cheeks when he said he was glad she wasn't hurt. Yeah, that was all thanks to Eli sacrificing himself for her. He didn't sacrifice his life or anything, of course, but she still felt bad about that. "Me too," she answered softly. Then she tried to lift the mood. "So what, were you just going around rescuing all the maidens you could find?" Ash teased. Savtaj Daniel MacMillan

While they had first met on a blind date, Sav had almost come to see Ashley as a little sister, which was weird since he had almost never seen a girl as a friend without even the possibility of some romance someday. Ashley was the first, the first girl he hadn’t even thought about kissing. Not that he wasn’t attracted to her, he was. She was gorgeous, but he just didn’t feel anything like that when he looked at her. Maybe he was maturing. Yeah. That was it. He was a man now. Maybe it was time to stop liking every girl he saw in the corridor. “Nah, you can meet him if you want. Just so long as it’s clear that no matter who he is, he isn’t better looking than me.” Sav teased.
She continued the conversation regarding the dragon attack by asking if he just went around and rescued all the helpless maidens. He laughed. “I didn’t have much time for rescuing, there were dragons that needed fighting.” he tried to make it sound lighter than it was, but fact of the matter was he did spend most of the attack in direct battle with one of the beasts. For a while, it had just been him and the woman until others came to help. He had kind of saved the woman, though, he thought, but it seemed too real to twist into a heroic story. “Maybe dragon fighting is a better career path than Quidditch. My mom fight feel a little better about it. You know, less dangerous and all.” he joked.

Ashley definitely wasn't surprised by Sav's response, though that didn't keep her from laughing and rolling her eyes. "I don't know ... he is very cute. And he has that I'm-cute-but-I-don't-know-it thing going for him ..." She cocked her head to the side, smirking at her friend. "Though you're confidence might be just as good as that. Hmmm. I'll have to pay attention today and see which one is better." She was obviously more drawn to Eli than she was Sav, but she'd never give up a perfect opportunity to tease her friend. Sav admitted that he was too busy fighting to save many people and Ashley nodded, her expression growing a little more serious. "Yeah, there was a lot of fighting going on there," she answered in a mutter. In all honesty, she hadn't really been a part of the fighting. After Eli saved her ... she'd been too worried about whether or not he was okay to even care about what the dragons were doing to the village. Maybe that was bad of her, but she couldn't seem to help it. She snorted, glad that he lightened the mood when he suggested that he might fight dragons instead of play Quidditch. "Yeah, I can't imagine any mother preferring professional Quidditch over dragon fighting. The scars you get from the sport are way worse than anything those creatures can manage." She chuckled, though she tried to stop herself. This was too funny. Savtaj Daniel MacMillan

Honestly, Sav didn’t care if Ashley did think that this other guy was better looking than he was. Sav knew the truth. He knew that he was the best looking man at Hogwarts, though he also knew that Gilderoy Lockhart Jr. would have something to say about that, but he could bring it on. Sav always had a few choice words for the Ravenclaw boy. Though, he was never unfriendly. Overall, annoying as he was, Lockhart was fine and not a threat to the Gryffindor. “Let me know when you decide.” he smirked. Sav was actually kind of happy that Ashley had a boy, and he was glad that they had become good enough friends that Ashley felt comfortable telling Sav about him, even if he didn’t know who the bloke was.
“Definitely.” Sav teased regarding mothers thinking that dragon fighting was a better career than Quidditch. Overall, in some people's eyes, he supposed that they were the same in a lot of ways. Both presented their own dangers. “I think I’ll stick with Quidditch.” it still wasn’t his mother's ideal of a good career for her son, but hey, he had his twin brother to do impress her. Sav couldn’t really care less about that sort of thing anymore. “Do you know what you might want to do, you know, after graduation?” he asked.

Ashley grinned as Sav teased her back. She liked his confidence. Tilting her head to the side, she feigned a look of concern. "You sure I won't hurt your feelings if I'm honest?" she asked. Sav knew he was handsome. He also probably knew that she thought so. Eli's appeal had so much more to it than just good looks, though she definitely thought he was handsome. She just liked teasing the older Gryffindor. Besides, that's why she was hanging out with him right now, right? To distract her from being anxious as she waited for Eli? She laughed as he continued the conversations about dragons vs. Quidditch. Honestly, it was a silly conversation, but she was still having fun with it. "I think your mother would probably appreciate it if you do stick to Quidditch," she confirmed with a nod. His next question was a little more serious, but Ashley didn't mind. "I'm not sure. I might go into singing professionally, or become a potioneer or something." Really, the most likely job for her would be singing, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to do something unexpected and surprise her parents. Savtaj Daniel MacMillan

Was he sure that she wouldn’t hurt his feelings if she was honest. He shrugged, “If you’re brainwashed into the wrong answer I just won’t hold it against you.” he decided. He didn’t mind. Surprisingly at all. With any other girl, he’d hate being told he wasn’t as cute as someone else, but with Ashley it didn’t offend him at all. Life was so strange. How had he gotten here? He was the last person to think that he would ever want to be just friends with a girl. Not that he didn’t like them as friends, he did. He had lots of friends. It was just also fun to kiss your friends sometimes, Sav thought. He never felt like closing the door on a possibility. But this door was fairly firmly shut.
“I think you’re right.” Sav nodded. Though if he wanted to do something to annoy his mother and get back at his father, threatening to go into dragon fighting would be the perfect thing to do. He’d keep that in mind for their next family gathering. She explained that she might want to be a professional singer when she graduated, or perhaps go into the world of potions. He shrugged. “Maybe you can sing while you brew.” he suggested. “Or invent a potion to help others sing. Cure tone-deafness once and for all.”

Ashley laughed when Sav said he wouldn’t hold it against her if she was “brainwashed.” In other words, if she decided Eli was more handsome, he wouldn’t be offended. She didn’t expect anything else, since they were such good friends, but it was nice to know that she didn’t have to worry about that kind of a thing with Sav. She didn’t want to upset him, because strange as it was, she was starting to really value his friendship. “I’m so glad. It would be tragic if you blamed me for something that wasn’t even my fault,” she joked back. “I normally am,” Ashley teased when Sav agreed she was right. She shrugged a shoulder and smirked up at him, knowing that it was all in good fun. She enjoyed talking with him and messing around. Then he started giving suggestions for how to mix potions and music and she found herself laughing again. “Yeah, I’m sure people would definitely want to come to a tournament to watch me brew a potion and sing at the same time.” He was being silly, but she definitely enjoyed it. At his second suggestion, she widened her eyes and shook her head comically. “I can’t do that! Then what would set me apart from all the people who want to be just as good as me?” She wasn’t serious, of course, but at the same time she did take great pride in her singing abilities. If everyone could do it, her singing wouldn’t be as impressive ... but that wasn't why she didn't want to try and make a potion like that. Savtaj Daniel MacMillan

Ashley insisted that she normally was right and Sav gave a chuckle in response. Of course she thought she was. Honestly though, she normally was. He couldn’t remember a time when he hadn’t been. “I would.” he admitted when she teased him about wanting to come watch her brew a potion and sing at the same time. He could imagine what kind of magical games would have such a category. The sad truth was it didn’t sound far off from something that one could find in the wizarding world already. People were in love with weird combinations. Wizards were weird. He laughed again at her competitiveness that came out when she said that she couldn’t make something that would put anyone at an equal level with her. “You’re right.” he nodded. “Yet again.” he teased. “No one is allowed to be as good as you.” they finally made it up the walk and into the house. “So, do you see your boyfriend?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows at her as he scanned the crowd.

Ashley laughed when Sav said he'd come to see her sing and brew a potion simultaneously. Then she rolled her eyes, "Only because you're the one who suggested it," she answered flippantly, though she wasn't serious. She appreciated how he said he'd be there to support her. Still she appreciated him and his friendship. She honestly didn't expect to be able to talk to him about anything, but Ashley was starting to think that she could. No matter what she said, it never seemed like Sav was judging her. When he laughed about her not wanting to help others be able to sing as well as her, she smiled, nodding as he agreed. "I'm glad we're on the same terms," she said in a serious tone. Then he asked about her boyfriend and Ashley rolled her eyes. "He's not my boyfriend any more than you are," she answered. That didn't mean she didn't want him to be, but Ashley was nervous that if she started thinking of Eli as her boyfriend that she would somehow jinx it all. She frowned as she looked through the crowd. "No, I don't see him yet." Then she looked up to Sav. "What, you want to get rid of me already?" Savtaj Daniel MacMillan
