Cara had forgotten about the promise. Not the actual, physical promise to allow Peyton to read the story when it was finished, or half-finished, or whatever state it was in, but the part where it meant something to her sister. Handing over a hardcopy of a book or anything she published or thought was complete was always going to happen as long as Cara deemed it worthy of being read. But there had been more to that promise than just tossing a piece of writing at her sister and calling it a day. Peyton had been excited and looking forward to it, and now she had to wait even longer for it. On the flipside, Cara didn’t want to throw this specific one at her though. There was too much that would give away her total hatred for Kinsey’s situation and would leave a bad impression of herself. That wouldn’t be fair to any of them.
“Don’t worry, you’ll still be the first one to see whatever I come up with. I promise it’ll be better this time too.” She made a mental note to remember it too. Falling short on promises wasn’t going to get her any fans in the future either, and if she couldn’t produce for her sister, she couldn’t do it for an unknown reader. Not really sure how much she could add on to that, she started to turn to head back up to her bedroom, “I’ll be back done in a few to get something to eat, if you don’t mind the company. I need to go destroy all of my work…it’ll help me let go of it all, I think.” Nodding her head to herself, Cara did just that, heading into her room and throwing all of her paperwork into the trash bin next to her desk, and quickly destroyed everything she had written for the last seven months. It was like cutting off a horrible appendage on her own, but she immediately felt the weight of her stress start to leave. Starting again wasn’t a terrible way to go into the New Year at all.
