Term had started again and jack was glad to see people back at the castle again. He had spent most of his break in total boredom. What was there to do when everyone but a handful of people were gone? He had wanted to go home, but his family hadn’t been able to work it out. He had longed to be back on the farm for the break, but here he was, sat up in the castle for most of the time. But that was behind him now and the halls of the stone castle were once again filled with voices and beings, running around and catching up with friends. Jack was right there with them, wandering the corridors chatting with familiar faces and finally feeling more like himself again. He had loved getting to see friends in the village, but now that everyone was back all the time, it was so much better.

Mazie walked through the halls, a distinct bounce in her step as she looked from side to side, trying to see everything there was to see. She could hardly believe she was actually in Hogwarts, that her parents finally agreed to send her to school. She’d been begging for months, and she couldn’t be more grateful to Lee for helping her. She looked at the sea of faces walking around her, all going different directions. Some faces were familiar, but so far she hadn’t seen someone she wanted to talk to. Then she heard a familiar voice, the charming southern drawl of her friend Jack. A slow smile crept across her face and she slid across the room, bumping his hip with hers once she reached him. ”Hey stranger. Fancy seeing you around these parts,” she muttered in a deep voice, wondering how long it would take for him to recognize her. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack turned when he heard the familiar way of speaking and for a moment was shocked at the sight of the woman he saw approaching him down the hallway. Mazie? No way. She bumped his hip with hers and looked up at him. He shook his head for a minute, she was about the last person he was expecting to see her. He thought she was going to be home schooled from now until eternity, or at least until she graduated. When he got word she wasn’t coming with them, he had been disappointed. Mazie was one of the people who he knew could keep up with him, and what would be the fun in a new place without an old friend? “What are you doing here?” He asked in amazement. “Did you sneak away? Do your parents know you’re here?” He teased, wrapping an arm around the girls shoulders and offering an easy side hug.

Mazie grinned, entirely pleased when she saw the blatant look of shock on Jack's face. Good. While she definitely didn't consider herself one of those "dramatic girls" that pranced around the school, sometimes it was fun to surprise people. Besides that, anyone who knew her parent's reaction to the attack wouldn't expect to see her in school. Her mom and dad basically decided that hiding away would keep them safe, until Lee helped her convince them otherwise. Thank goodness. Her smile widened when she heard the amazement in her friend's voice. She widened her eyes innocently, "What do you mean? I'm just coming to school like everyone else," Mazie kept her tone light, though she was definitely teasing. She'd missed things like this. Talking with her friends, teasing them. In response to his his following questions, she looked from side to side quickly before waving him to come closer, "I actually just knocked them both out and ran away. Shh! Don't tell anyone!" She giggled, unable to keep the facade anymore as she hugged him back. "Actually, they changed their minds! Did'ja miss me?" She gave Jack her best smile, quirking an eyebrow at him. Mazie teased him, insisting that she was just returning from the break like everyone else. He rolled his eyes and laughed. “Right. I just happened to miss you all last semester.” he teased back. Like he could have missed her, Mazie was one of his favorite people. Top ten at the very least. Plus, she was always fun to talk to and be around, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to stay away for an entire semester if she was here. He had missed her, actually. Even if he wasn’t going to come out and say it right now. She then agreed with his wild thought, saying that she had knocked them out and snuck away, he laughed, of course she had. He rolled his eyes. But then she said that they had changed their minds and asked if he had missed her. He softened a little, maybe he would admit it. “Well yeah I missed you. No one else around here can keep up like you can.” he admitted, the smallest signs of a blush appearing on his cheeks.

Jack rolled his eyes, laughing at her joke and she shrugged. "I tried to get your attention. I even jumped around waving my arms at one point, but you wouldn't even look my way so I gave up." She sighed dramatically, just trying to tease him. Honestly, she wasn't sure if she could even stay away from him if she wanted to. Jack was one of those people who just seemed to understand her. He didn't get annoyed by her energetic side, her need to be constantly moving. He also didn't mind her constant flirting and teasing. It was nice. She giggled when he laughed at her joke about knocking her parents out. She lifted an eyebrow at him. "No one else can keep up? Are you saying that you're the one to set the pace here?" her tone was definitely a challenging one. Her eyes narrowed slightly, "Also, you are aware of the fact that you have about one week to show me all the stuff you learned about this place while I was gone. You know that, right?" She'd missed an entire term here, but Jack could help her make that up. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

When she quizzed him about being the one to set the pace in their friendship, he smirked and gave an easy shrug, “Well I am the older and wiser one.” he teased. He wasn’t that much older than she was, in fact, his own birthday was only a month before hers was, but she had missed the cut off date and was a year below him in school because of that. While he knew she couldn’t control her birthday, he teased her endlessly about being younger than he was. As if the age difference was huge. She then challenged him, saying that he only had one week to fully catch her up on everything he had learned while at Hogwarts thus far. He scoffed. “Or what? What happens if I don’t?” he challenged.

Mazie cocked her head to the side when Jack teased. She knew he was teasing. He always brought up being older than her, so she had to retort back. "I can't deny that you're older, but wiser .... I think we both know that's a stretch." Mazie laughed. In all honestly, they both knew he was really smart, and he was definitely better at school-work than she was. Nothing about this conversation seemed serious though, so she was just having fun with it. She narrowed her eyes at his challenge, looking him up and down with a small smirk. "Who are you and what have you done with Jack Hatfield? The only reasons he would refuse to show me around would be ... if he wanted me to find someone else to spend my time with, or if he already found someone to spend HIS time with ... Are you dating someone?" She demanded with a twinkle in her eyes. "Have you replaced me after just a few months?" Yes, Mazie was being dramatic. It was part of the fun when she did things with Jack. Seeing his reactions. "Will you or won't you show me around?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow at him now. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack watched her throw her little fit about him changing on her and finding someone else, she had even gone as far as asking if he was dating someone now and didn’t need her anymore. He watched her with a smirk on his face and with his eyebrows raised in amusement. He knew that she wasn’t serious, but it was still fun to watch. “Of course I will show you around.” he said after she finished and asked the question once more. “Are you done throwing a fit now?” he asked with his arms folded across his chest. “Geeze, all that time on your own has made your dramatic.” he teased, she had always been dramatic. It was part of the fun.

Mazie could tell that Jack was amused by her little outburst. In all reality, that's why she did it. She liked making him smile, even if he tried to hide it like he was now. The punk. She wasn't really worried about him wanting to show her around either. They were too good of friends for him to just leave her hanging. Still, Mazie was having fun with this run-in, and she didn't care how anyone else saw it. She grinned when he finally agreed to show her around, and then shrugged at his following question. "Maybe. It depends on if you're done being a punk or not," Mazie countered. She didn't mind making scenes to play at someone, especially if that someone was a good friend like Jack. She quirked an eyebrow when he folded his arms. Was he going to act annoyed now? Then she laughed. "Nope! I've always been this dramatic. You just forgot without me here to remind you." She smirked, "but don't worry, I'll help you remember soon enough." Mazie winked, to show she was just teasing. Man, she'd missed doing things with Jack. "Sooo ... when are you going to start my tour?"

She called him a punk and Jack snickered. No one had called him that, ever in his life, besides the blonde girl standing next to him. She was the only one, and he liked when she called him the name, for some weird reason. It was almost endearing. “So it sounds like I can kiss my peaceful silence goodbye.” Jack teased when she told him that she would be here now to remind him how dramatic she was. The first part of the year hadn’t exactly been silent, but it hadn’t been very exciting either. He got to know a lot of new people, and even came to like one of them quite a bit, but besides that, and some time with Eli and his new friends, he had definitely felt Mazie’s absence in his life. “That was a nice break, I enjoyed the quiet.” he gave a chuckle. She asked when he was going to start her tour and he shrugged. “We can start now if you want, or, we can meet back at midnight and sneak around in the dark.” he suggested, mostly as a joke, though he knew it would catch her interest. He wasn’t sure he knew the castle well enough to give a tour in the dark, though.

Mazie couldn't help but smirk when she heard Jack's soft laugh. She loved making him laugh. There was something about the poised, in-control southern gentleman in him that she liked to mess with. Getting him to laugh and tease her and joke around was one of her favorite things to do. Sure, she knew he liked to explore and stuff, but she didn't think that was something others knew immediately. She could bring it out in him though. However, when he teased her like this- telling her he had to kiss his silence goodbye and that he enjoyed the quiet break- she felt the almost overwhelming need to overreact, especially after so long. It was almost like a requirement, like she'd let them both down if she didn't. She let her jaw drop as she stared at him a moment, the corners of her lip twitching. "You don't have to, you know. I can tell when I'm not wanted. Go enjoy your "peaceful" silence without disruptive old me," she told him, her tone much more composed than a few minutes earlier. She turned so her back was to him and waved a hand as she started to walk away, fully expecting him to follow her. Her eyes lit up when Jack mentioned starting the tour now, then suggesting a midnight one too. Her eyes narrowed slightly. "You're just teasing me about the midnight one, aren't you?" she asked. She didn't want to get too excited about that when he was probably just messing with her. Hmmm ... maybe once she knew where she was going here she'd be able to convince him to do something like that with her. They'd done plenty of midnight excursions in Ilvermorny. He couldn't have changed too much, could he? JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

She turned away from him dramatically after she teased him about picking his peace and quiet over her. He was a country boy, peace and quiet was a luxury that he did love taking advantage of when he could, but he would much rather be causing havoc and doing something active with a good friend, especially a girl like Mazie who seemed to keep up despite from being from one of the largest cities in the country. He never really saw her as a city girl, even though she was. He was sure that she could give some cowboys a run for their money if she had her heart set on it. She walked away and he took a few quick steps to catch up, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as they walked, showing her that he still cared, despite his relentless teasing. “Honestly I’m not even sure I know the castle well enough for a midnight tour, but we could get lost together in some dark, deserted hallway.” he raised his eyebrow, suggestively before offering a wink, switching to a bit of flirting, something else he was good at.

Jack followed her. Of course, she'd definitely expected him to, but Mazie was pleased that he had. She would've been disappointed if he just let her walk away. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and she bumped her hip against his own, smirking just a little bit. He said he wasn't sure he knew the castle well enough for a midnight tour and she pouted a little, jutting out her lower lip until he teased her about getting lost together in the dark. She turned to look up at him, liking in that moment the fact that he was a little taller than her. Not enough that it really made a difference, but enough that she had to look up. "That definitely sounds like fun. It's been a while since we got lost together." She smirked. Nothing had ever really happened between her and Jack, but that didn't mean she didn't want it to. He was fun and handsome, and he knew her better than most people did. "Are you just teasing me again, or are you ready for us to go on an adventure tonight?" she asked, a small tilt to her head. Hopefully he would give the right answer now . JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie said it sounded like fun and remembered that it had been a while since they got lost together. It had indeed, he thought to himself, smirking at the past memories. They had always had a great time together, hadn’t they? He was glad that she was back here now. Maybe a little too glad. He felt a lump swell in his throat when she asked if he was just teasing or if he was really ready to go tonight. He shrugged. “We can go, if you want.” He said cooly. He hadn’t realized before how much he liked the idea of being alone with Mazie. But now he found himself hoping that she was being serious about wanting to go too. She’d be worth risking getting in trouble for. He didn’t look down at her, he kept his cool, southern composure and kept his eyes straight ahead, but he didn’t move his arm from around her either.
