It wasn’t that Sav had been bored or lonely during the Christmas holidays, he hadn’t been. In fact, this was probably the best break that he had since his parents split and the news of his father's affair had become public knowledge. He hadn’t had to see either of his parents all break and got to spend it with his best friend. While Hugo’s family was also far from the image of the perfect family unit, it was somehow still better than his own. That all being said, he was glad when the term started and they got to go back to Hogwarts. He was excited to see everyone again and he was so excited to be back in his own bed. He was excited to get to run around the grounds and play Quidditch again. He was excited for the house elves and the amazing meals they prepared daily again. He feasted well at dinner that night, leaving the great hall with a full stomach and a happy mood about him.
If wasn’t long until he spotted a girl in Gryffindor robes looking up and down the corridor as if lost. He gave a chuckle. He had thought the American students would all know their way around by now. Or at least the way to their common room. Perhaps the break had helped some of them forget. “You’re not lost, are ya?” he asked, approaching the blonde. It dawned on him that she could easily just be looking for her friend or something, but he thought he'd ask.

Mazie still could hardly take all this in. Hogwarts was huge and ancient and fascinating! It was her first night here. She'd gone to the Great Hall (as they called it) and eaten to her heart's content. Yeah, they definitely had good food here, which she was also excited about. Mostly, she felt a little overwhelmed by how many people were sitting in the room chatting, but at the same time she loved it. She missed school the past few months. She ate in relative silence, mostly just watching the people around her and looking for familiar faces. She saw a few, but they hadn't noticed her yet and at the moment she was just soaking in the atmosphere of the place. She'd have plenty of time to bug people later.
Once dinner was over, Mazie found herself wandering the halls. She knew she should've followed her house members to their common room, but part of her just wanted to explore a little. She walked slowly, trying to take in the portraits and suits of armor and everything she could. She heard someone approaching and wondering if one of her friends noticed her yet, but it was an unfamiliar voice that spoke and Mazie turned, a slow smile creeping as she looked at the guy. He was cute, and the fact that he seemed to be teasing her without even knowing her ... well, she liked it. She hadn't been teased in ages.
She shrugged a shoulder, "I mean, isn't it kind of a must to get lost your first day in a new place?" she asked, winking at him. Maybe he'd offer to show her around. If he was in the same house as her, that would be doubly useful.

Unsurprisingly to Sav, the girl didn’t seem to mind him coming up and talking to her. However, the closer he got to her the more he wondered why she wasn’t a familiar face. She was wearing Gryffindor robes and she couldn’t be much younger than he was. How hadn’t he met her already? “Your first night?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “Oh are you actually new? Sorry, I guess I wasn’t expecting anyone else to transfer in at the break.” he explained. He had figured that they got all of their new students at the start of the year and those who came now would just be students coming back for the second semester.

Mazie laughed at the look of surprise on his face and nodded, "Yeah, it's my first night here. I'm a late bloomer, it's fine." She chuckled, not necessarily wanting to get into the whole story of why she hadn't attended last term, but she'd likely tell him if he asked. "No, no you don't need to apologize. It's always nice to meet someone new. I'm Mazie, by the way," she said, smiling up at him happily. He was definitely cute and Mazie wanted to enjoy that. She'd wonder if he'd be able to get over the slightly awkward introduction or not, hoping he would. It could be fun.

Sav liked the easy-going way that this new girl carried herself. She teased herself, saying that she was a late bloomer and then said that he needn't apologize and then introduced herself. Mazie. That was a cute name, Sav thought. It wasn’t a name he heard before and he liked the way that it sounded. It seemed to fit her well, even though he didn’t know her at all. “Sav. Nice to meet you, Mazie.” he saw her smile up at him and smiled back to her as well. “So the common room is this way.” he said. “I noticed you’ve got Gryffindor robes, same as mine.” he pointed out. They were in the same house. She couldn’t have been much younger than him, if at all, maybe they were in the same year and would have the same classes. He wouldn't mind seeing her more often.

He gave his name, Sav, and Mazie nodded slowly. It was definitely a different name from those she was used to, but her name was unique enough too so she wasn't going to say anything about it. "You too," she answered his compliment, interested to see what he would do now. Would he start trying to make conversation or something? That's what most people did ... but apparently Sav was different. The next thing she knew, he was smiling as he started directing her toward the common room. "Ooooh, we're in the same house?" She already noticed that, since his robes matched hers, but she didn't have to say that. "Does that mean I get to see a lot more of you?" Mazie grinned, hoping the answer to that was yes. Even though they just met, he seemed like a fun-enough guy. It would be nice to get to know him better.

Mazie asked if because they were in the same house, they would get to see a lot more of one another. Sav smirked, “Yeah seems like it.” The seventh year agreed. Maybe American girls were all just more fun than the British ones. So far he had a lot more fun with the American girls than he had with the British ones this year. First Ashley, and now this girl. Maybe he should have transferred to Ilvermorny years ago. At least he would be able to better avoid his family drama there. It was impossible to do so here with his mother just down the hall. “You can also see more of me on the Quidditch Pitch.” he boasted. There was nothing wrong with showing off a bit, was there? He had done the same with Ashley. Why fix what wasn’t broken?

Sav almost seemed to good to be true. He was confident enough that he didn't seem to mind her light teasing, just agreeing that it seemed like they would be able to spend a bit of time together, being in the same house. "What year are you?" she asked after a moment, wondering if she had any luck.
At his mention of Quidditch, Mazie's nose wrinkled in distaste. Oops. She couldn't help it though. Quidditch was boring. Quodpot was a lot more fun, she'd played that in school and absolutely loved it, but Quidditch? No explosions or anything and it was supposed to be interesting? Still, she tried to play off her distaste, trying on an easygoing, interested smile, "So you're a flier then? Wonder if I could beat you in a race," she mused, glancing over to look him up and down once more. There. Maybe that would be enough to distract him from her obvious dislike of a sport he clearly enjoyed. Hopefully he wasn't sensitive about it.

“I’m a seventh year.” he told her, a little bit of pride coming though. Sav felt right at place at the top of the food chain. Not only was he a seventh year, but he was the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, the best Quidditch team at Hogwarts, he liked to think. Though their recent loss couldn’t be ignored. She seemed interesting in his flying and because of that, and his little bit of internal pride, Sav hadn’t noticed the face she made when he brought up Quidditch. He just assumed that everyone liked Quidditch. How could anyone hate such an amazing and important game? “You fly? Maybe I’ll have to take you out to the pitch someday. We can test your skills.” he smirked, the small thought that she could possibly join the team the next time they had an opening crossed his mind. She at least seemed confident in flying.

Mazie couldn't help the small pout that came when he said that he was a seventh year. Of course he was. She could never run into any guys that were here year. All guys worth knowing were seventh years. How annoying. Still, maybe they'd be able to be good friends. "I'm a sixth year ... does that mean you're not going to want to spend your time with me, since I'm young?" She teased. She was almost always the oldest sixth year, since she was born the day after the age cutoff, but she was curious to see if he'd care about her age or not.
She ginned at his enthusiasm when he started asking if she flew. "I love flying, and that definitely sounds interesting. As long as you know I'll be testing your skills too," Mazie winked at him. Even if he obviously liked Quidditch, he was cute and fun and she definitely wouldn't mind flying with him. Could be fun!

He gave her a teasing shrug when she asked if he was going to ignore her because she was a sixth year. “Being seen with a younger year would definitely be bad for my image.” he said in a very sarcastic voice. He didn’t care at all in all honesty. He mostly dated girls who were younger than him anyway, and Ashley was a sixth year and he still went out of his way to spend time with her when he could. It wasn’t a big deal at all, but he liked the way that the new girl asked the question, she seemed to have a bit of a sarcastic quality herself. Sav appreciated that. He appreciated girls who didn’t take themselves or anything else, too seriously. She agreed to go fly with him, but, she insisted that she would be testing his skills too, “Okay.” he said with a laugh, “but I’m not captain for nothing.” he winked. He was going professional for a reason.

Mazie rolled her eyes when Sav said that being seen with her would definitely be bad for her image. She could sense that he was teasing, but she sighed like she was going along with it before looping her arm with his. "Then that's a shame, my friend, 'cause I'm afraid you don't have a choice anymore," she said with a shake of her head. She could tell that he was fun and Mazie was definitely going to capitalize on that. She was drawn to fun people. She lifted an eyebrow when he said that he was captain. Did he say that earlier? She smirked, "Means it's gonna be even harder for you to swallow when I beat you then, won't it?" Yes, Mazie was talking big game, but she could deliver, so she didn't think there was any problem with that. Besides, what was wrong with a bit of healthy competition?

The new girl shook her head, saying that it was a shame because he didn’t have any choice anymore and Sav laughed, a genuine laugh, and threw his head back as he did so. “You’re funny, new girl.” he teased. He remembered her name. It wasn’t hard to remember with how unique it was, but it was all part of the fun. This new term was certainly going to be interesting with her around. He wasn’t mad about it. It was what he had been missing. He scoffed again when she insisted him being captain would only make it worse when she won. “Well don’t get your hopes up, Kid.” he teased. He’d definitely take her out though. Even if she did win, he was only a bit of a sore loser, but in this case, he’d enjoy the challenge more than he’d care who won. He liked having people to challenge and push him. “But we’ll see what you can do. Maybe I’ll make a Quidditch player out of you after all.” he smirked.

Mazie grinned when Sav really laughed. She liked making people laugh and feel comfortable around her. It made it easier for her to convince them to join her on her shenanigans. Not that Sav didn't seem like he would be willing anyway. He was fun, easy to talk to. Mazie had a feeling that the two of them would get along very well. She lifted an eyebrow when he told her not to get her hopes up about beating him. "Alright, I won't. As long as you don't get bitter if I win." Honestly, his confidence made her really want to beat him, even though Mazie wasn't the competitive type. Okay, that was a lie. Mazie definitely was very competitive and would love it if she could make him eat her clouds in a race, since there was no dust in the air to kick up. It would be fun. She laughed, "Unless you can make Quidditch as fun as Quodpot, I'm not quite sure that'll ever happen." Mazie was extremely defensive of her sport. She loved it and anyone who spoke ill of it didn't know what they were talking about. "Sooo, you gonna show me around a bit, since you know this place? At least, I assume you do ..." she trailed off, smirking as she teased him. Man, she missed being with people for all those months.

Mazie said that she wouldn’t get her hopes up about winning so long as Sav agreed not to get bitter when he lost. He laughed and nodded, “Deal.” he decided. Sav was a sore loser when it came to Quidditch matches, just because he felt like so much was riding on every one, but, when it came to friendly matches, he didn’t usually mind being beat, it gave him an idea of where he needed to be and how he could train harder to get there. Though it wasn’t usual that anyone beat him. “Well I think Quidditch is pretty fun…” Sav shrugged. “But maybe we can make a deal. You teach me Quadpot, and I’ll teach you Quidditch.” He suggested. “Maybe we’ll both change our minds.” he winked. As they walked up to the common room she asked if he would show her around since he knew where he was going. “Sure, well there’s not much on this floor.” they were on the third. “Just the charms classroom down the corridor there.” he pointed. “There were a few classes on the lower floors too.” he shrugged.
