Jack left his common room way after curfew that night, the first night back after the Winter Break. He had ran into an old friend earlier in the day and, in an effort to impress the pretty girl, he had suggested they go on a midnight adventure. And she had said yes, because of course she had. He knew her well enough to know that she would be extremely interested in that. So he left his common room, careful to avoid the prefects as he walked through the halls towards the Gryffindor tower. He told her that he would meet her by her common room, because he thought he’d have a better chance at not getting lost than she would on her very first night here. As he turned the corner to the tower, he began to see a figure in the shadows down the hall. “Mazie?” he asked in a whisper, in case it was not Mazie.

Mazie was so excited about tonight. She could hardly believe that she and Jack were going to do something her first night here. A part of her thought that she wouldn’t be able to find her friend so easily or that maybe he’d be busy, or maybe he wouldn’t want to break the rules. Then again, this was Jack. They broke rules semi-constantly together over the years. She was just excited to see him tonight. Shortly before midnight she snuck out of the common room, sneaking down the corridor as she looked for Jack. She heard a familiar voice coming from the other end of the hall and smiled. ”It depends on who’s asking,” Mazie muttered softly as she moved towards him, excitement rushing through her. Jack got a sassy reply in response to his question. Yep. That was Mazie. He rolled his eyes and let a small chuckle escape his lips as he finished his way towards her. “You keep up the sass and maybe you’ll find yourself alone in an abandoned hall all turned around.” he threatened with a light hearted voice. He would never ditch her. And he liked her sass, whether or not he would ever admit it. He did. “So, where do you want to go first? Any ideas? Have you heard about anything you want to see yet?” he asked.

Jack was chuckling at her teasing and Mazie grinned, absolutely loving the sound. She’d missed making him laugh. She took his arm when she reached him. If she needed an excuse, she’d say she was doing it for stability, but really ... she just wanted some form of contact. She looked up at him with wide eyes. “You wouldn’t leave me, would you? Not after all we’ve done together ...” At first, she thought she did a good job seeming sincere, but by the end of that she was shaking with silent laughter. In all honesty, Mazie wasn’t worried in the slightest. She couldn’t imagine Jack leaving her in the middle of the night. She batted her eyelashes up at him, despite the fact that it was dark. ”Aren’t we good enough friends that you wouldn’t abandon me in a strange place?” Her eyebrows furrowed when he asked where she wanted to go. Did she have a place in mind? Mazie hadn’t really had the chance to scope the place out yet ... she’d heard of a few places, but not really. She shook her head slowly, frowning. She didn’t like not having an idea for them to follow. ”How about ... do you want to show me your favorite place here?” Mazie asked before smirking and adding, ”I mean, other than a classroom or the library.” She couldn’t resist the urge to tease him. It was too much fun. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

“Well keep up the sass and let’s find out.” Jack teased. Of course he wouldn't leave her, and he was fairly sure that she was able to call his bluff, but he still liked to tease her about it. She didn’t answer his next question, instead, she turned it around, asking if there was anywhere that he wanted to show her. Most of his favorite spots were outside of the walls, but he knew that it was stupid to try to sneak out of the castle after the doors were closed. That would certainly get someone's attention. “Okay, I know where to take you.” he finally decided, taking her hand and leading her back, down from the towers.

Mazie’s eyes narrowed slightly at Jack’s teasing. ”You know that you make that sound like a challenge right? And that it makes me even more curious to see what you’d do.” He wouldn’t ditch her. She was ... 98% sure that they were good enough friends he wouldn’t just leave her. And if he did, well, she’d never let him forget it. Jack was quiet for a minute and Mazie waited to see what kind of a suggestion he might have. He would definitely have more ideas than she would, since he’d lived here for a while. Besides that, he knew her well enough that she was pretty sure he’d be able to choose something both of them would be able to enjoy. Then again, at the moment she thought she’d be happy doing just about anything, as long as he was with her. She smiled when he said he knew where to take her, grabbing her hand. It wasn’t a new thing; the two of them were always grabbing the other’s hand and dragging them around. Still, she liked it. ”Is it a surprise or are you going to tell me where you’re taking me?” she teased with a soft giggle. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

“It’s kind of a surprise.” he admitted with the smirk still on his lips. It wasn’t like she would put it together when they got there, she had been here for less than a day and knew even less about the castle than he did. But, he knew this place, mostly, from hearing about it from one of his roommates, who had used the secret room to host several parties and told Jack all about them. The room of requirement, on the fifth floor of the castle. This also happened to be the floor where his common room could be accessed, but he didn’t think that was as cool. He was quiet as they walked down to the correct floor and then as they turned into the corridor. “Wait here.” He told her. He let go of her hand and left her standing in the dark of the corridor as he began to pace back and forth in front of the wall where he knew the door would appear. He needed a cool place that would impress her, so that’s what he asked for. Slowly, the door appeared and he smirked as he went back over to Mazie. “After you.” he insisted.

”Of course it is,” Mazie answered, still grinning. She loved the look on Jack’s face. A look of anticipation, like he knew that he was about to impress her. It made her even more excited about the night, or that was possible. She could tell she wouldn’t be able to get him to say anything about what he had planned. That didn’t stop her from looking around with interest, trying to mentally guess what he was going to do. She glanced up at him when he suddenly released her hand, telling her to wait. Her brow furrowed. Was he going to make her wait long. She started tapping a finger against her arm, trying to be patient. She watched as Jack started walking back and forth. What was he doing? Did he get lost or something? She started when a door appeared behind him and suddenly Jack was smirking as he approached her again. She quirked an eyebrow at him. ”After me? A mysterious door showing up in the middle of a corridor ... was this place made for me?” Mazie asked with her own smirk as she approached the door. She stopped in the middle of the doorway, staring. This place ... she was just imagining it, right? The walls were decorated with tree wallpaper, making the room look like it was outside. There was a record player with all sorts of fun music next to it. A table at the edge of the room was covered in sweets and all sorts of games, board games and card games alike. There were beanbag chairs and banana chairs. Was this place designed for her? She turned to look at Jack with wide eyes. ”You did this, right? Somehow?” There couldn’t always be a room that was so her in the castle, could there? JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack could tell by the look on her face that she thought he was beyond crazy. He couldn’t blame her. Hogwarts was a weird place and had so many weird and surprising little turns and twists. Not to mention the secret passageways and moving staircases. She’d have to get used to them like he had to. But this room was something that was secret to most, and also few students. The rumors went around like crazy to all the new students, and the parties held here proved that it existed. She walked in and he followed her, staying close by so the door wouldn’t close before he got inside. He looked around just like she did when they finally entered the Room of Requirement. She seemed shocked and asked if he did this somehow. He nodded and shrugged, “yeah, somehow.” he admitted. He then launched into a bigger explanation. “This is an enchanted room. It makes what you ask it too.” he attempted.

Mazie knocked into Jack a little when she turned to ask him about his room, but he didn't seem to mind. She gave a half laugh when he said that somehow he did do this. She was about to demand to know how when he explained a bit more. Her jaw dropped open. "It can give you anything?" she asked, starting to feel almost giddy. She looked around the room again. "And this is what you thought up for me?" Mazie laughed, shaking her head a little before she turned and threw her arms around Jack's neck in a tight hug. "You're the best," she muttered against him, not able to adequately describe how she felt. He'd come up with some of her favorite things. She released Jack and took a step away from him, looking around the room. "Okay, so what do you want to start with? We have games, dancing, food?" She quirked an eyebrow at him. "You haven't forgotten to dance while I've been away, have you?" She was so happy, she knew it would be obvious to Jack, but she didn't care. He'd designed this room for her and it was perfect. She threw her arms around his neck and thanked him and he stood there but then he wrapped an arm around her waist in response, a smile over his face and a force beating in his chest, his heart, probably. He felt very proud of himself, even though it hadn’t been him at all. All he had asked the room for was something that would impress her and the room had come through better than he had expected it would. He didn’t have the heart to tell her that though. He’d take the credit. At least for now. There was no harm in doing otherwise. She was so happy about it all and he liked seeing her happy. She asked what he wanted to do first and Jack shrugged, “Whatever’s callin’ to ya.” he insisted. She asked if he had forgot how to dance while he’s been here. “There haven’t been many opportunities to keep it up.” he admitted, though he wasn’t sure he would ever say that he knew how to dance.

Part of Mazie always wondered how Jack had enough patience to deal with her. Sure, he loved to explore, but he was so calm and peaceful whereas she was crazy and all over the place, constantly. Didn't he get tired of her? She wasn't about to ask though. She was too happy to be here with him, seeing something that she never could have imagined before. This place was so cool. She laughed, rolling her eyes when he said they should do whatever she wanted. He didn't have any preference at all? She tapped her chin, thinking for a moment. Then he admitted he hadn't had much of a chance to practice his dancing without her. Mazie grinned, moving toward him and grabbing his hand, dragging him over to the old record player. "Then you and I are definitely going to dance. I haven't been able to in ages, since I've been all alone at home, so it'll be good practice for both of us!" She chose some random disk and put it in, turning to Jack with a smile as she waited for it to start, not even knowing what kind of music it would play. "You ready?" she asked, her voice softer than normal as she looked up at him. Merlin, she forgot how handsome he was during all those months at home. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

They were going to dance, she decided. He allowed himself to be pulled over to the record player, but he couldn’t say he was too excited about being made to dance. He wasn’t much of a dancer, but he had always put up with her asking him to dance, mostly because he liked the smile on her face when he agreed and he liked being close to her. What? Did he really just admit that to himself? Well maybe he had missed her a little more than he thought that he had. He watched as she put a record into the player and started it, there was a second of white noise before the song started, something classical, it sounded like, maybe one of the famous muggle composers. “Ready as I’ll ever be, I guess.” he decided, holding his hand out to her.

When Mazie turned to face him again, she couldn't read the look on Jack's face. Almost like he was preparing to do something that he'd rather not? She paused for a second, tilting her head and looking up at him. "You know, we don't have to dance if you don't want to," she pointed out, not taking his hand yet. "I don't want to force you into it." His face was too serious, and she wanted to make sure that he had fun with her, or maybe he'd start thinking that it was better when she wasn't around. She tried to keep a straight face as she took his hand and then started shaking his hand from side to side quickly. "I just want to do something with you," she added after a second. Sure, she'd chosen dancing because it was fun and they got to be close, but whatever. She pulled her eyes from his for a second, glancing around the room. "We could play uno or something?" What would he want to do? JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack regretted his cool guy act pretty instantly when Mazie insisted that they didn’t have to dance and suggested that they play a game or do something else. He shook his head, letting his face soften to a soft smile. “No I wannah dance with you.” he insisted, taking a giant leap of faith. He let go of her hand and wrapped his arms around her waist instead, drawing her closer to him, he figured this was probably closer and more intimate than they had been before, even when they used to dance. And if she wasn’t into it, he would let her go and apologize, but he wasn’t sure he’d get anywhere or figure anything out if he kept up his tough guy persona. He needed to be genuine with her. “However, if I let you think I like doing stuff like this right off the bat then there’s no game. I can’t change everything about me.” he teased.
