What was life without a little risk? If there was any opportunity to do something stupid and not get caught, it was under an enchanted mask that only the school’s staff could see through. With so many other students also wearing masks that kept their identities hidden from most of the other people in the Great Hall, Samira wasn’t too concerned about getting caught. It was practically tradition, at this point, for someone to spike the drinks at otherwise mundane parties. It was either that or drinking from a concealed flask on her own, Sami thought, and somebody had to do it.
For that reason, she had arrived to the Great Hall slightly later than most of the other students. It had been risky getting the firewhisky down from the Gryffindor Common Room, but that was what an enchanted hip flask and a ball gown were for. She had almost thought that she was going to get busted as she readjusted her makeshift “garter”—actually a tied ribbon, because who actually wore garters anymore?—on her way out the door, but Bryelle had assured her that she would help to keep watch for any members of staff who got suspicious. Considering that she hadn’t ended up poisoned from the cinnamon buns of Bryelle’s that she’d tried shortly after Christmas, Sami was willing to accept that offer.
Mask on and ready, Sami scoped out the drinks. There were two identical bowls, side by side. For the sake of those who knew better, she thought, she’d keep one alcohol-free. The other, though, would get the firewhisky treatment. It was only a matter of getting over there and getting it poured. (Oh, and she also had to find a way to make pulling up the skirt of her dress totally subtle. Brilliant.)
Maybe, if she looked as though she only had to adjust her shoe, that would work? She scanned the vicinity. Where was the nearest chair to where the drinks were? Sami didn’t really want to fake an injury, lest anyone think she needed help, but she also had to get the flask freed up somehow. She wasn’t going to walk around all night with the thing on her leg for nothing. “Could you get me a chair?” she asked Bryelle, while also walking the perimeter of the room towards her target. “I’ve got to fix my shoe.”

HAVING A LITTLE FUN HAD been the plan for the ball. Bryelle remembered the face she pulled when she first received the invitation, groaning at thee sight of it because it meant another social event she would have to do her best and look good for. Appearance seemed to be the only caring factor for anything hosted by Gildeory, but it was suspected from him, given his narcissism. The good thing about the ball, beside the fancy dress - in which Bryelle decided to mix up, having beige/tan and a light gold somewhere in there - was the addition of a charmed mask, concealing the true identity of the person. How perfect? Before the Goyle had headed down to the Great Hall for the dance, she recalled bumping into a suspicious Samira, who had let her in on the plan, in return for her help.
Immediately, she agreed to help, noting whatever trick the girl had up her sleeve would be worse than anything Lily had gotten her in trouble for. The decor in the Great Hall had matched everything, possibly what Gildleroy wanted, but that wasn’t the reasons the two girls were here. At Samira’s request, Bryelle nodded, dark eyes looking around for a chair until she found one, following behind the wandering girl before calling out: ”Over here twat!” Their friendship had reached some kind of new level after all.

"Over here, twat!"
it probably wasn't what most people were expecting to hear ring out over the sounds of the music and chatter at the ball, but that was Bryelle, who had wasted no time at all in securing a chair for her use.
"Brilliant! Thank you!" Sami smiled as she turned to see the seat, feigning having to tip-toe with one of her feet so that it would look believable enough until she could get it readjusted. Really, she should have thought her outfit through, she thought. She was probably going to end up exposing her underwear in getting the flask off from where it was secured to her leg.
"Sh*t," Sami laughed as she got closer to Bryelle, "you might have to, er, crawl under my dress for this…" It was awkward, but the payoff would be worth it for more than just themselves. "I'm not sure if I can reach it myself," she cringed. Samira meant the garter and flask and not actually her shoe, but she wasn't sure how easily she would have been able to reach her shoe, either, in truth. How were they supposed to pull it off?

FOUL LANGUAGE HAD BEEN A part of Bryelle’s dictionary for the longest time. Perhaps since the first moment she heard her (five year senior) brother curse at their parents for something they wanted, which was clearly something he didn’t want. It rolled out of her tongue like second nature now, not that she cared or anything, it was simply who she was. Securing a chair for the smaller Gryffindor, their plan was a-go for now…Until Sami revealed the downfall in laughter. ”Crawl…Under?” She parroted, looking down at the skirt of the elder Gryffindor’s dress. She hadn’t been under a woman before. ”I’ve never been down under before.” She crudely announced, grin wide on her lips.
”It’s whatever. Let’s do this.” Hitching up her own skirt lightly as her knees met with the floor, pretending to help Sami with the adjustment of her shoe for the view for others while a hand snuck upwards, reaching for the flask in the garter and successfully obtaining it. She twirled it in her left hand before setting it down by the girl’s heel, standing now so the skirt of her own dress concealed both their feet. ”I’m going to the bathroom now. Meet you in five.”

"Crawl… under?" the younger girl asked her in disbelief. Sami immediately wondered if she would have been better off to go through with her plot alone, as she had originally planned, if Bryelle wasn't going to cooperate with her for all of two seconds to get the flask that she couldn't exactly reach for herself. This was what she got for trusting her with the job, Sami lamented, until she heard the second part of Bryelle's hesitation. "I’ve never been down under before," the sixth-year grinned at her.
"F**k!" Tears of laughter formed in Samira's eyes, and she had to put her hand to her mouth to keep herself from losing her composure at Bryelle's raunchy comment. Sami sat against the chair as much as she could without accidentally keeping the ribbon "garter" from being easily removed from her leg. Considering that Bryelle was "supposed" to be at her foot and not at her thigh, they couldn't afford to waste time on getting it out if it got caught. Otherwise, they were the ones who would get caught.
"It's whatever. Let's do this," Bryelle announced, clearly not inhibited as she moved towards the ground and then, pretending to assist her with her shoe as planned, reached up from the bottom of Sami's skirt to fetch the alcohol from higher up on her leg.
The maneuvering could have been much more awkward than it ended up being, and Sami could feel as Bryelle got the flask out, set it down beneath her, and then stood back up again so that both of their skirts kept the contraband from view.
"I’m going to the bathroom now. Meet you in five."
Sami couldn't follow what Bryelle meant. Unless the younger girl had a plan that she hadn't clued her in on, it sounded like she actually might have been planning to leave her for the bathroom… with a flask of alcohol casually sitting at her feet.
…Right. Lookout.
"See you." Nodding, Sami bent over as if to examine her shoe again. and palmed the flask as best she could, moving to her feet and then holding her hands (and flask) in front of her body as though only carrying a clutch purse.
She breathed in and walked towards the drinks with confidence.

BEING CRUDE AROUND SAMIRA HAD been a part of Bryelle’s top things to do after she figured out the older Gryffindor had been the girl her cousin was once seeing. To many, it was odd to hang out with an ex, but when the ex wasn’t Bryelle’s, did it really matter? The plan for the night was straight and simple, spike the punch and simply blame someone else. At least that’s what she believed it to be. The mumbled statement was just another secret code to being the lookout, hoping their actions from now wouldn’t be seen from the wandering eyes of the Professors. Sami had stepped closer to the drinks now, while Bryelle circled the outskirts of the ball, noting the amount of couples around and even the lack of people by the snacks. Clearly no one was hungry.
Now on the other side of the ball, Bryelle watched with careful eyes, watching as Professors shuffled as they watched the dancers while a smile grew across her face. Things were going well…Until…They weren’t. The Goyle noticed one Professor wasn’t in the spot they were last seen in, speaking to others just moments ago but instead they had disappeared out of thin air. Professor Choi…Had disappeared out of thin air. Bryelle only hoped she had disappeared to the bathroom.

Samira eyed Bryelle in her peripheral vision and then looked back to the punch bowl. There wasn't anything to it; she just had to get the firewhisky out of the flask quickly enough that no one would see what she was doing, and then she and Bryelle could enjoy the rest of the party without any issues. It wouldn't be hard. The staff who were there all seemed to be talking amongst themselves and paying her no mind, if they even saw her over there.
It took her a moment to open up the flask, but—once she had gotten it—she wasted no time in starting to pour it into the bowl on the right-hand side. Time seemed to be suspended. The liquor fell freely into the drink, and Sami thought that it was a shame that she couldn't waste the time that it would take to mix it together more thoroughly. Someone would probably move the ladle around eventually to get it stirred up, though.
She hadn't heard a peep from Bryelle. Everything was going according to plan.

BEING APPROACHED BY GILDEROY LOCKHART was one thing Ji-Yu Choi didn’t expect that week. He had an idea, and whenever the Seventh Year had an idea…Ji-Yu wished she could blank his voice out. He kept bugging her however, finding her just before she made her way to the Staff Room, or even on her way to the Library but eventually she gave in and listened to his ideas. He wanted to pull off a successful Valentines Ball while having it as a some sort of Masquerade party. And eventually, the more she listened the more interested she was. So the Choi gave in, and provided her Charm skills to help Gildeory’s dream come alive. And now there she was, standing on the sidelines as a Chaperone alongside the other Professors, a smile on her lips as she watched the students dance, laugh and chat away. It was a joyful time.
Except…one little detail was off. The two students that caught her eye were girls of the Gryffindor house. Both students the Choi was sure she taught. Bryelle Goyle, a rebellious sixth year and Samira Warsame. She didn’t know much about the Warsame girl, considering how innocent and well she did in the Charms class. She watched as the two shuffled together, while one of the other Professors ran down the Choi’s ear. To pretend as if she were listening, Ji-Yu continued to smile and nod, agreeing with every last thing the other person said. Simple English things. The two Gryffindors then stopped, Bryelle crouching down and obtaining something for Samira, and Ji-Yu’s lips widened. She knew that trick like the back of her hand, her brother was somewhat the King of it and Ji-Yu always caught him out.
The two girls mumbled for a few minutes more before Bryelle took off, scouting out the Professors and that’s when Ji-Yu made her move. She smiled at her fellow Professor, quietly announcing her excuse, before shuffling in the crowd, hoping the young Goyle girl wouldn’t notice she was gone. And that’s when Ji-Yu realised what was going on. Samira was pouring in a flask, spiking the punch that the other students seemed to love. Slight anger boiled in the Charms Professor’s gut and her shuffle turned into a fast strike, approaching Samira with full force. ”Miss Warsame.” She spoke once she finally stood behind her. The Choi held her hand out, waiting for the girl to drop the flask, before they would leave the Great Hall together.

THERE WAS NO TIME TO lose for their plans, especially since almost every Professor had turned up for the Ball tonight. It was a surprise that Bryelle and Sami had gotten this far, the flask out of sight amongst the rest of the other students, and now their plan was in action. Smooth running, Bryelle was sure they had nothing to worry about…Until there was one less Professor sitting on the sidelines. The Goyle’s eyes widened, the girl standing on her tip-toes now to browse around the Great Hall, trying to spot out the moving Professor, but the different heights gave Bryelle a disadvantage. She couldn’t see shit. Bryelle turned, ready to wave her hands to delay their plan, until she realised Professor Choi was on the move, and fast.
It was too late for the punch though, Sami had successfully spiked it but Bryelle knew her friend was in danger, and potentially she was too. ”Sami!” She tried to yell, to get her friend’s attention, but the minute Professor Choi stopped, the Gryffindor knew it was all over. So her own escape route was now in action. Sorry Sami, she thought, elbows raising to barge past couples, faces hidden by masks, but the moment the Goyle got to the doors, they had closed on her. She turned back, noticing Professor Choi was staring in her direction now. Merlin they were doomed.

“Miss Warsame.”
Eyes wide, Samira froze at the sound of Professor Choi’s voice directly behind her. Miraculously, she managed to keep hold of the flask, its contents now emptied into the punch as planned. She could hear Bryelle calling her name, too, although it rang out somewhere far beyond the sound of how loudly her heart was racing. She hadn’t been clever enough to dupe the professors, unfortunately, and she had been caught in the act of spiking the drinks.
She turned slowly, as though the world had stopped moving temporarily. There was her Charms professor, her hand out in expectation of the flask. She dropped it lightly into the woman’s hand, knowing that there wasn’t any use in arguing with her—and especially not if she had seen it all go down. Putting the flask against her leg? Why couldn’t she have stuffed it into her bra or something? Maybe the teachers would have been more hesitant to question her about it then.
“Professor...” Sami breathed out as the flask transferred from her hand into Professor Choi’s, knowing that she really didn’t have an excuse for her behavior… or Bryelle’s. She probably wouldn’t be getting that flask back again, she knew, which she also wasn’t thrilled about.

THERE WAS SOMETHING ABOUT BEING a Professor that always gave Ji-Yu some sort of joy. She wasn’t the type to let power escape into her mind nor abuse her power but knowing power was there when the assertiveness of dominance was required? It was always a positive feeling. And Ji-Yu considered this moment to reflect all of her beliefs. Samira and Bryelle were troublemakers, at least from what Ji-Yu had observed with the developing months, yet Bryelle had more time to realise her mistakes and fight through them. Samira…Was a seventh year, who was liable for expulsion for her actions. The flask was dropped into the Choi’s hand promptly and with narrowed eyes she nodded down at the girl, her hand curling to hold the item with a tight grip. ”Off you go.” She said, taking a step back to allow the girl to pass by her.
Once on the move, Ji-Yu ensured to stop by the Goyle, stepping aside the same way she had done for Samira, so now both of the students were in front of her, making their way out of the Great Hall and possibly to a closed off classroom where Ji-Yu would provide their punishments. She rose her hand, casting Alohomora instantly without the need of speech or even her wand. Being a Charms Professor only made spells and such more intimidating and fascinating to see. At least to the Choi anyway.

BRYELLE COULDN’T HELP BUT GULP, how much of deep shit were they in? This was most definitely worse than the time she had been in trouble with Professor Zabini. She remembered it like it was yesterday. First she cursed about her mother, then even challenged him to provide a harsh punishment. Whatever was running through the Goyle’s head was simply paired with sheer insanity back then. And that behaviour seemed to match now. Where Bryelle stood, she clasped her fingers together, holding them tightly as she just waited for the trouble to catch up to her. Professor Choi and Samira didn’t take too long to stroll over to the Goyle’s side, but the guilty look on Samira’s face only left a frown on Bryelle’s. Merlin! They were in such deep shit now.
”Professor I—“ She began once the two were closer, only to be simply and quickly hushed, the Professor stepping to the side so that the two girls would walk in front of her. During their stroll out of the Hall, Bryelle tried to steal glances with Samira, but was unsure if Sami was paying attention or was simply filled with anxiety. That girl was a rollercoaster of her own. Bryelle gulped at the sound of the doors opening, and even the smaller door once the three of them turned a corner, heading towards a classroom. She considered what her success chance would be if she broke into a run, but considering Professor Zabini was able to notice it easily, she figured her success rate would be lower with Professor Choi.

"Off you go," Professor Choi told her. As young and as cool as Samira had thought the new Charms professor to be, the woman had begun to show a different side of herself. She couldn't just let her live a little?
Not wanting to put up a fight, however, Sami nodded and moved in the direction that Professor Choi had instructed. Whatever Professor Choi was going to do to them, she thought, sending a letter to her family at home was possibly the worst outcome. At least she wasn't meant to be fasting yet for another couple of weeks. Spiking punch with alcohol wasn't going to go over well with her grandmother, regardless, but especially not during Ramadan.
Professor Choi instructed Bryelle to come with them, too, and the two of them were marched out of the Great Hall and into one of the classrooms. Sami looked over at Bryelle, and Bryelle looked at her. Still, she kept quiet. Professor Choi, in her opinion, was already overreacting. It wasn't as though they'd switched the drinks for some sort of potion or poison. It was just firewhisky, and it had happened at nearly every Hogwarts party before.
While Sami hoped that they would be interrupted by someone snogging (or worse) in the classroom—just for the laugh that she and Bryelle would get from it—that didn't happen. Professor Choi locked the door behind them, and Samira turned to face her.
"Miss—Professor Choi, please…" she started, trying to be as democratic and well-behaved as possible about negotiating with her. "I can explain," she promised her, hoping that she would actually hear her out.

JI-YU KNEW SHE HAD TO put the rules of the Wizarding School before her own emphatic actions for students. Ji-Yu was the sort of person to believe in second chances, to let people learn from their mistakes but what Samira and Bryelle had done was enough to scratch a line. Sure, Ji-Yu understood the growing teens, she had been one herself of course, but even though she was of a young age, the Choi had maturity. Something the sixth, seventh and all the other years still lacked. Samira and Bryelle seemed to comply easily though, following her instructions and commands with ease, and eventually the three of them were inside the abandoned classroom.
As the silence fell once the door closed, Ji-Yu’s arms folded in front of her, her grasp on the flask held tightly in her hand. She wanted to see who would crack first, brows furrowing tightly together especially as the two girls looked at one another and back at the Charms Professor. Samira cracked first, the start of her words sounding like a plea more than a start of a negotiation. ”Well.” Ji-Yu began, walking towards the dusty tables, using her hand to swipe some of the dust away to somewhat lean upon, her grasp on the flask loosening.
”You may explain Miss Warsame, after you explain where you obtained the original contents in this flask.” Ji-Yu’s hand stretched out, the flask raising from her palm to float in between the two girls and Ji-Yu herself. ”Did you steal from your parents? Graduated friends? Buy from someone during Hogsmeade Weekend?”

BRYELLE KNEW THERE WERE ONLY two ways this could result in. Terrible, or absolutely fucking terrible. Not that the Goyle minded it, it was only February, a few months into the new school year and already she had a few Owls sent home about her (or mainly redirected to Renard, since her parents had given up) and definitely a few howler’s off of him. She knew it was only because he wanted her to do better than their parents, the same way he had done so, and she knew she had ideas to buck up and improve on. It was laziness and sometimes even peer pressure that prevented her from doing so.
Filing into the small classroom had been a journey of its own, the anxiety that boiled within Bryelle’s stomach was probably enough to fuel a fire. She didn’t want to be expelled. Especially because she was in a co-operating plan that probably would’ve wound up with kids having alcohol poisoning. It was always the drastic and fear-filled moments when Bryelle thought of her actions. And now that she thought about it a bit more, it was a really stupid plan. As the Charms Professor turned, closing the door and locking it behind her, Bryelle’s head shifted, looking at her partner in crime in fear before looking back at the Professor.
Professor Choi wasn’t too harsh with most things, and like Lily, always nudged Bryelle to do better (even when she was doing absolutely great). Surely she would let them off. Samira began to speak first, attempting to explain and lead up to a reasoning with the Professor before Ms Choi cut the Gryffindor off. In silence, Bryelle listened to Professor Choi, watching as the flask that contained the alcohol floated towards them, settling in the centre between the two Gryffindors and the Professor herself. She demanded answers, and while Bryelle knew Samira would probably be glad to give them, she truly hoped she didn’t. The Goyle knew if shit hit the fan, she could take the blame, being a younger year than Samira. Suspension sounded nice for this time of year anyway.
