Jan. 11, 2025 It was Mazie's first Saturday at Hogwarts and the Gryffindor couldn't be more excited! She didn't exactly know what she wanted to do quite yet, but she definitely wanted to be outside. Sure, she should be doing her homework, but Mazie couldn't. Not right now. First she needed to get some fresh air in her lungs, and probably a bit of exercise or something. Meeting someone new wouldn't be a bad idea either. There were so many unfamiliar faces here and Mazie definitely wanted to do something about that. She loved knowing people and making friends! As many friends as she could. After what felt like forever, Mazie finally made her way outside. The air was cold, but she liked the feeling and laughed as she walked out, grinning when she saw her breath hanging in front of her in the air. Mazie grew up in California and wasn't particularly accustomed to cold weather like this, but she thought snow was beautiful and she wished she could have had more of it growing up. She saw a head of dark hair in front of her and bounced forward, an easygoing smile on her face. "It's always nice to get some fresh air, huh?" she asked the stranger cheerfully. Mazie didn't even think about possibly being a bother to him. That just wasn't the way she worked. gideon edward ollivander

January 2025It was the first weekend back from winter break. Gideon had complete all of his assignments for the week and had no reason to study because he was well ahead in classes. This afternoon, Gideon decided to take a little stroll on the grounds since it had snowed while he was away at Christmas. A white Christmas, it was indeed. Gideon was enjoying a solo stroll when suddenly his peace and quiet was interrupted by a female voice. An American. And she sounded much too little miss sunshine for his liking.
She commented on how nice the fresh air was, apparently looking to small talk. Admittedly, one of Gideons weaker points. The young snake didn't slow down his gait, or even turn when the girl spoke to acknowledge her. Hell, he didn't even know what she looked like since she had approached from behind. He could hear the pep in her step as she walked... The devil inside him gave him the burning desire to trip her, but he'd resist. He kind of hoped she'd disappear though.
Gideon took a breath of cool, fresh, air through his nostrils, rolling his eyes to the back of his skull out of annoyance, though turning his face to hide it from her. He didn't hesitate to respond to her question though. "More like peace and quiet." he commented, still walking. Well, it was obvious he wasn't a member of the welcoming committee.

The guy wasn't looking at her, but Mazie honestly didn't mind that. She wasn't really looking at him either. All she knew about this kid was that he had dark hair. She was too busy looking at the beautiful scene around her to really pay attention to him yet. He didn't slow down so she could catch up with him or anything, but Mazie didn't care. She just quickened her own step until she reached him and then slowed a little, still looking around herself. Part of her wanted to build a snow fort or something ... but maybe she should try to talk to this guy a bit before trying to convince him to join her. She laughed at his comment about liking peace and quiet more than fresh air. "Oh, come on. Anyone can find peace and quiet. That's all too common, if you ask me." Mazie wrinkled her nose. She was definitely not the kind of person who liked peace or quiet. It was too boring. She turned to look at the guy. "I'm Mazie, by the way. Mazie Pond." She offered an easygoing smile. gideon edward ollivander

January 2025This girl didn't really get the point. As she caught up with him, now standing side by side, he cocked his head to the side to look her up and down. She was new here. And American, he could tell by the accent and wonderment in her eyes when she looked around. "Where did you come from?" he asked with a raised brow, sounding more like an insult, though he wasn't actually trying to be rude this time. Snow wasn't new for him. It was merely snow on the ground. An inconvenience at times when it stuck to the ground. "I wish I could say the same about peace and quiet." he said simply, taking in a breath. Gideon was constantly surrounded by boisterous snot nosed teenagers, with their foul smelling body sprays and raging hormones. The snake continued down the walkway, "Gideon Ollivander." he introduced himself, always finding pride in his sharing last name.

He looked over at her and Mazie smiled, hoping she was making a good impression, but unsure because of the serious expression on her face. It was okay. Even if he didn't like her at first, she'd wear him down. She actually hadn't met a person yet that she couldn't convince to be her friend. She wasn't necessarily close with everyone, but she considered everyone as a friend. "I'm from southern California," she explained easily. Then, not sure if he'd know where that was, she explained a little. "It's on the west coast. I lived super close to the beach, so I only ever saw snow like this at Ilvermorny." Her expression softened a little as she thought of her old school, but then she smiled again, determined to not get upset by it. She loved Ilvermorny, but Hogwarts was great too. She coked her head to the side when he said he wished he could find peace and quiet. "You seek out peace and quiet?" It definitely wasn't something that Mazie ever did. She liked to have fun too much for that, but if he really wanted, she could try and help him find a quiet place. Then he started walking again, saying his name. Mazie's eyes widened as she followed him. "Wait, Ollivander? Like the Ollivander shop that I bought my new wand from? Is that your family?" she asked curiously, a delighted smile on her face. gideon edward ollivander

January 2025"I know where California is, I'm not a moron." he scoffed, unable to surpass an eye roll. Gideon wasn't as annoyed as his face came off to be, he was just very expressive and dramatic. Gideon shrugged, "Enjoy the snow while it lasts, it'll be gone in about a week..." he told her. Why did he love being the bearer of bad news so much?
The girls face brightening when she realized the Ollivander name made the corners of his lips slowly curl upwards with pride. That was his favorite reaction. Maybe he wouldn't be a jerk to her if she patronized his families store, not that the entire school didn't get their wands from Ollivanders, except a small percentage that had inferior wands. "Yes, Garrett Ollivander is my great great grandfather. My mum currently owns it." he told her as matter of factly before turning to her, "What type of wand did you get? I may have made it." he told her, somewhat curious to what she chose, or what chose her. A persons wand said a lot about them. Not that he really cared, but since he was now killing time...

Mazie couldn't resist the laugh when Gideon insisted that he wasn't a moron. She wasn't laughing at him, but she still raised her hands in a gesture of surrender. "Hey, no one said anything about anyone being a moron," she answered, still smiling. "I just didn't know how much you Brits know about my home country," Mazie teased, unable to help herself. She didn't know why, but Gideon seemed to bring the teasing side out of her a little more than most people. It was cute. Then her expression fell. "Really? But it's just January! I thought the snow would last until February or March ..." She didn't doubt him, though Mazie was hoping that maybe Gideon was exaggerating a little bit. She was definitely impressed when he confirmed that his great great whatever-grandfather started the store. His mom owned it now. "That's so cool!" she whisper-shouted, trying to contain her excitement a little bit. Then he was facing her, asking what type of wand she got and saying ... he might have MADE it?!?! Mazie was definitely impressed. She pulled her wand out. "It's ash wood with a unicorn hair core," she said, holding it out just in case he wanted to see it. "How long have you been making wands?" Mazie asked, incredibly impressed. She wasn't even trying to hide it.] gideon edward ollivander

January 2025Mazie reassured Gideon that she knew he wasn't a moron, admitting that she was unsure how much Brits knew about her home country. He enjoyed travelling and learning about new places. When Mazie commented about the snow, Gideon shrugged, "Hm. That's why you like snow. You're from California. Home to sunshine, movie stars, and legal herbs.. Is that right?" he asked, meant to be more joking than mocking, surprisingly. This girl wasn't annoying him, she was being nice to him and there was no one else around watching, so he didn't have to worry about upping his jerkiness.
As she held out the wand for him, he eyed it for a second, unable to resist the urge to check it out. "My mum or Aunt Nell probably made this one. I don't usually work with ash wood." he said, before handing it back and answering her question about how long he had been making wands. "I don't know now, probably like 5 years now. I didn't get good until about a year or so ago." Gideon admitted, before cocking a curious brow, "Were you allowed to bring your wands from Ilvermorny?"

Mazie chuckled, shrugging when Gideon suggested that she liked snow because she didn't have to deal with a lot of it. There was probably some truth to that. It was easy to like snow when you knew that you could go home and get away from it whenever you wanted to. She nodded, "Yeah, you've got my home state right on," she admitted easily. She thought he might be teasing her, but he was also one of those super closed-off people, so she wasn't 100% sure about that either. She nodded, a little disappointed when he told her that he didn't make this one. That would be cool, wouldn't it? To have a friend who made her wand and it just worked out that way. "Is there a specific reason why not? Or do you just prefer other woods?" Mazie asked curiously. He said he'd been working on wands for five years, but that he'd gotten good in the last year and she nodded with a smile. Her expression dropped when he asked about her wand from Ilvermorny. Mazie remembered her first wand, how it seemed to read her mind and do exactly what she wanted. This one was great, but ... it wasn't the same. "No. We couldn't take our wands home or anything. They ... blew up in the explosion." The smile was gone from Mazie's face, even though she didn't really want to be sad right now. She wanted to pretend like everything was fine, but it wasn't. Not really. gideon edward ollivander

January 2025When Mazie asked him further about wand woods and his preference, he shrugged. Gideon knew exactly why, it was just hard to explain to someone who didn't know wandlore or wood crafting. This was a subject that he could talk about without getting annoyed, and she wasn't being overbearing, she was honestly curious and more conversational and he appreciated that. "I don't have a problem with Ashwood itself because it's fairly easy wood to work with. The smell when carving is just...sweet? It's hard to explain, I don't like it." Gideon answered her honestly.
Gideon noticed the look on her face change when she talked about Ilvermorny. He wasn't the sensitive type, so he wasn't going to hold back on his questions to make someone feel better. An arched brow raised in her direction. "The school keeps your wand when you aren't there?" he asked her curiously, genuinely interested. That was one thing he hadn't heard before. Not that a fourteen year old was expected to know the laws of another country, he just enjoyed being a know it all.

Mazie wasn't sure if Gideon was interested in the conversation they were having or not, but he'd definitely piqued her interest. Unless he made it obvious that he was bored, she'd keep asking questions in the typical Mazie way. She nodded when he explained a bit more about Ash wood. Okay, so he didn't like the smell of it. "Okay, that's cool. I guess I never paid attention to the ways different kind of wood smell. That's interesting." And it was. Mazie would probably pay more attention to smells when she was around trees now, even just normal trees. "What's your favorite wood to work with?"She nodded in response to his question. "Yeah. They don't always trust our parents or guardians to keep us from doing magic with them, so they're kept at the school until graduation." At least, they were supposed to be kept at the school. Until they all exploded. "I guess it's worked for a long time, until now." She shrugged. She'd been very upset when it first happened, but now that she had a new wand she felt somewhat better. gideon edward ollivander

January 2025The girl asked him what kind of wood was his favorite. Gideon hadn't been asked that by a classmate before. He crossed his arms across his chest when he thought about it, but it only took a split second. Because Gideon knew damn well his favorite wood to work with. "I would have to say I favor Elmwood the most, because it has a nice texture, and it's flexible, which makes it easier to work with." he informed her.
Maize explained that the schools would usually store students wands until they graduated. That was a weird concept to him, considering he used his wands all of the time away from school. It was different as an Ollivander.. Gideon pursed his lips as he digested the information, "Oh, I never realized the laws were different." Gideon admitted, which was somewhat a surprise for someone who liked to claim they knew everything. "Hm. Well, that plan sort of blew up in their faces didn't it." he stated ironically, unaware that a comment like that would be considered insensitive. Well, people died after all.

He went into what looked like a defensive pose at her question, but Mazie didn't think he was angry. Instead, he looked more contemplative than anything else. He named a wood, explaining why he liked it and Mazie nodded as he spoke. "I ... okay, to be totally honest I've never heard of Elmwood before. Are a lot of wands made out of it?" She smiled apologetically, hoping her questions weren't annoying him, but she did appreciate his answers. Mazie nodded when he commented about the laws being different in America. They were and part of her definitely wished that she'd been allowed to keep her wand. If she had it wouldn't be lost now. "It definitely did," she agreed with Gideon, surprisingly appreciating his candor. Sure, Mazie always said what she felt like saying, but she didn't know a lot of other people who did the same thing. Mazie hesitated a second, then told him, "I like how you say what you think. It's refreshing. Most people I've met here are so closed off with their thoughts and stuff."

January 2025Gideon could tell that Mazie was actually interested in wands, appearing somewhat apologetic as she questioned further about Elmwood. "I'd say it's common. Elmwood is found in the warmer regions of North America, as well as, Eurasia and Indonisia, I think." he shared thoughtfully, ending with a apathetic shrug because he didn't really care.
Mazie complimented him on his honesty. His eyebrows furrowed together, not out of anger, but more humorously. "Thaaanks?" he chuckled to himself awkwardly, unsure how to react to that sort of compliment. The snake was used to his classmates being too soft for him most of the time. This girl, Mazie, seemed to be able to carry herself well. She wasn't as annoying as most kids their age, although she did have a lot of questions to ask. Gideon was used to answering questions about wands though; his last name was Ollivander for crying out loud, it was expected. Especially by his dear mother.
Gideon turned toward Mazie with a judgey expression, "Please don't tell me you're a Hufflepuff.." he sighed. As much as he appreciated her appreciation of honestly, he didn't associate with Hufflepuffs, they were the leftover house.

Mazie nodded as Gideon explained a bit more about Elmwood. He didn't seemed annoyed with her questions, which she was very glad about. She didn't want to bother him, though she did like getting answers to her questions. "Okay cool," she answered, mostly just to show she actually listened to what he said. She didn't think he really NEEDED a response or anything. She laughed at his hesitant acceptance of her comment. She hadn't meant to make him feel awkward, but apparently he did. Ooops. It wasn't something she was going to apologize for, though. "Didn't mean to make you feel awkward," she teased, winking at him in an effort to make him feel more comfortable, if he was even uncomfortable. She wasn't entirely sure. He made a face at her and sighed as he asked if she was a Hufflepuff. Mazie chuckled again, "And if I am? Does that mean something's wrong with me? Or does that just explain why I'm so annoying?" She lifted an eyebrow as she waited for an answer. Then she shook her head, "Naaah, I'm in Gryffindor. I think I'd probably drive the Huffepuffs crazy if they were stuck with me." Mazie cocked her head to the side. "Why?"
