It was a good thing Travis was standing at Rachel's back. She wasn't sure if she would have been able to appear so calm and collected without him there. She needed him beside her, needed the confidence of knowing that if anything happened, they were together and could escape. With him standing so close, there was no danger in listening to this guy. Rachel watched the guy as he spoke, trying to tell by his expression whether or not he was telling the truth. She wasn't seeing any ticks or nervous signs; he appeared completely calm and collected. She nodded slowly, "So, if we do decide to join you, how do we let you know?" She wasn't sure what Travis would think of the offer, but it appealed to her. If they agreed on that, she needed to know how to contact this guy so they could follow through with their decision. When the man admitted that he worked at the ministry, Rach took an involuntary step back. She hated showing weakness, but her mind suddenly became suspicious. What if this was all a trap? But he was already reassuring them, confirming that he was a double agent of sorts. Gathering information for his Elaine while pretending to work for the ministry. Rachel relaxed, forcing a small smile and glancing behind her at Travis. She was out of questions. @travis @finley

January 2025Travis wasn't sure how he felt about this kid. He wasn't sure if they could trust him. There was a feeling at the pit of his stomach having strangers know where they were staying. A part of him felt cornered. This kid, Finley, was supposedly a confidant and apparently messenger for Elaine Dupree. They said narking wasn't their style but usually people who said that were narks.
Rachel asked how they could contact them. Travis didn't have anything else to say to the kid. He certainly wouldn't get an answer on the spot because they weren't desperate to get out of their situation. His jaw clenched, "We will let you know our answer within 24 hours. " he stated firmly, prepared to show him the door if he didn't make his way.

Finn nodded, "twenty-four hours is perfect. Just send a message here, a simple yes or no will do and we can meet up for details later," he held out a piece of green paper. "Don't worry, only you can read it. Once you've sent the answer, it'll vanish," he explained. Finn backed toward the door, making sure not to turn his back to them right away. He did want to show trust though, so at the last second he turned his back to them, waiting a few seconds, and then opened it and stepped out. He was down the street and apparating in a flash. @travis @rachel (Finn out!)

Rachel nodded as Travis spoke, then again when Fin told them where to send their message. She listened to his directions carefully, ultimately satisfied with what he said. She watched as he made his way to the door, not turning his back to them until almost the last moment. Once he was gone and through the door, Rachel waved her wand to lock the door, and then turned to Travis. "So ... what do you think?" She kind of liked the idea of being safe, but she wasn't sure if it was worth it. @travis (make their decision here then end?)

January 2025Travis watched as the younger man exited the cottage, a slight weight lifting off of his shoulders instantly as he disappeared. When Rachel asked what he thought, he shrugged with a sigh. Travis wasn't sure what he thought, he was in shock that someone was in their home they were technically hiding out in. Travis closed the distance between he and Rachel, trying to find her eyes, "If they know where we have been hiding, maybe we should see what they're about..." the man said, attempting to read her expression because he wanted her to tell him how he felt.

Travis was often a man of few words. As Rachel watched him, trying to decipher what he thought about this situation, she realized how much he was struggling with the idea. "I mean ... protection would be nice. This group seems to really know what they're doing." She hesitated a moment, "It would just mean trusting them, which would take some getting used to for us." Honestly, it had been so long since Rachel trusted anyone that wasn't Travis. She wasn't entirely sure she could do it. If she was with Travis though, she probably could. "I kind of feel good about this," she admitted in a quiet voice. She didn't want to make Travis feel like they had to, but the offer of protection really made a difference to her. She didn't want to end up in Azkaban again. @travis

January 2025Travis listened as Rachel expressed how she felt. The comfort of having some sort of protection would be nice. He hadn't felt truly comfortable since long before Azkaban. This isolated cottage was a great start though. "I don't think it would be wise to give them our full trust but I am willing to give them a chance if you are." he told her with a solid nod. Deep down, he was slightly nervous about the decision but maybe this could be the start of a new life they were seeking.
@rachel - we can end with yours!

Rachel nodded when Travis answered her. She agreed. "Travis, you are the only person in the world who has my full trust. I think things would be a lot easier for us if we joined them, but when it comes to trust, mine is with you." No one else mattered. All that mattered was Travis. She would go wherever he wanted to go and do whatever he wanted to do. However, the two of them did have a habit of taking the best offers they could find. Right now, this seemed like the best offer. --- the end --- @travis
