Feb. 20, 2025 Mazie was more annoyed than she thought. Or maybe it was anger? Okay, so Mazie's emotions were a tangled up mess and she didn't know how to figure it out. All she knew was that she finally found someone she wanted to date, and he was unavailable. Interested in someone and she found out just before she confessed her own feelings. Fine. At least she didn't look like an idiot by actually telling him while she felt. If she did that, she would have had to deal with Jack telling her he wasn't actually interested in her. That would have been worse, wouldn't it? Even so, Mazie was angry. Mostly because she was confused. Why did Jack invite her to go with him to the engagement party thing? If he was so interested in that other girl that he didn't even notice Mazie behind him, why wouldn't he ask her to the party? Or was he just trying to make up for not seeing Mazie until more than halfway through the party. She hated that idea worse. She didn't want him to ask her to a party out of pity. Mazie wasn't the best at hiding her feelings. Other people could bottle and bury emotions. She'd seen it before, but that just wasn't something Mazie could do. Even hiding her feelings for a few minutes was hard, so the fact that she'd kept this to herself for almost a week was a miracle. She was about to explode from holding it all in, so Mazie made her way outside. There was still a decent amount of snow on the ground and she trudged across the grounds until she found some snow that was mostly untouched. Working quickly, Mazie made a mini-snowman, because she didn't want to take the time to make a real one. As she built, she grumbled to herself, her expression undeniably angry. This was why she came so far out into the snow. She didn't want everyone to see her this way. Most people wouldn't come all the way out here. Once she was done with the snowman, she took a few steps back to judge her handiwork. Nodding grimly and glaring at the snowman, she moved further away from it. "Take that!" she muttered after making a snowball and throwing it at the snowman. She had good aim and hit him right in the head and smirked grimly. Huh, this was oddly satisfying, which was exactly what she wanted. Mazie started building and throwing snowballs at the snowman, letting out her anger and frustration as she did so. She was more angry at herself than anything else, but there were still moments when she imagined the snowman was Jack. Not that anyone who walked past would be able to tell. To them, she was just the crazy girl throwing snowballs at a dwarf snowman. Mazie didn't care what they thought. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack wasn’t looking for Mazie, but he certainly wasn’t disappointed when he saw the blonde girl off a little ways away from the main crowds of people as he trudged across the lawn after his advanced flying lesson. The snow was still covering the mountain but it was starting to melt a little, though that usually resulted in it freezing overnight and becoming ice instead. He had taken to keeping his wand out in case he needed to melt anything on his way across the grounds.
When he saw her he broke off from his classmates and went over to her. He had a break in his lessons and wondered what she was doing all alone. He got over to her just in time to see and hear her chuck a snowball at a small snowman that he wondered if she made as well. “What did the snowman ever do to you?” He asked with a little laugh as he made it to her side.

Oddly enough, Mazie was actually starting to have some fun throwing snowballs at her little snowman. It was oddly therapeutic, an interesting way to get rid of the tension she'd felt since the Valentine's Dance. The tension directed at her best friend, though she couldn't say anything about it. She liked Jack too much to do that to him, not when she knew he was interested in someone else. She was so caught up in what she was doing that she didn't hear his approach. When he spoke, she'd been about to throw another snowball. At the sound of his voice, Mazie jumped and squealed, her snowball not even coming close to the snowman as she spun around. Her heart was beating faster than a hummingbird's and she reached over and slapped Jack's shoulder. "You're not supposed to sneak up on me like that, you punk!" She said, not answering his question because she actually didn't hear what it was. She sighed, turning back to her snowman and shaking her head. "You freaked me out." She started making another snowball. "I-I mean, I didn't think anyone was around." Sure, that made sense. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie threw her snowball and completely missed the snowman before she turned to yell at him and slapped his shoulder. She lectured him about sneaking up on her and he laughed. He hasn’t exactly been sneaky, but obviously she had been in her own little world over here and wasn’t expecting anyone else to join in. “You didn’t think anyone was around during a passing period?” He teased, raising his eyebrow. “I saw you over here when I got out of flying.” He told her. He hasn’t just come looking for her or anything and he didn’t want her to think he had been out looking for her.

Of course Jack laughed at her. He thought it was funny. Maybe she would have thought it was funny if their situations were switched, but they weren’t. Then again, she loved hearing his laugh and seeing him smile. Ugh, her feelings were so mixed up. She rolled her eyes when Jack started to tease her. ”Of course I know people are around, but just in case you didn’t notice, I did distance myself from the normal way to and from any outside classes.” She wasn’t far enough that people couldn’t see her, but most people wouldn’t approach her. Jack just wasn’t most people. She nodded when he said he saw her when he got out of flying. Mazie offered him a snowball. ”You wanna take a shot? It’s more fun than it looks.” She also wasn’t quite sure if she was done throwing snowballs, though now that the focus of her annoyance was here maybe she’d throw one at him. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie explained that she had tried to distance herself a little bit away from the beaten path and out of the way of the classes. Jack nodded. He could imagine most people would leave her alone if they saw her over here pelting a snowman with snowballs, but Jack didn’t want to leave her alone. He wanted to be near her and wanted to see what she was doing. She asked if he wanted to take a shot and he shrugged, nodding. “Sure.” He agreed, reaching down and grabbing a snowball in his hands. He threw the ball and hit the snowman in the chest. “so why are you out here throwing snowballs at the helpless snowman?” He asked.

Jack nodded to show he understood her reasoning, which was really all that Mazie needed. She smiled when he agreed, saying he’d take a shot at her snowman. Of course he’d hit it right in the chest, right on target. Jack was just great like that. She rolled her eyes, ”Just for the record, before you snuck up on me, I didn’t miss the snowman once,” she informed him. He asked why she was throwing snowballs at the snowman. Mazie shrugged, stealing a hesitant glance at him. He didn’t know she was upset at him, did he? ”Dunno. I was bored?” and had some pent-up aggression she needed to get out, due to the fact that she was falling for her best friend, who definitely liked some other girl. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Jack smirked and let out a single breathy chuckle when she said that she was attacking her creation because she was bored. “So you decided to attack?” He teased her. He knew that she could be aggressive when she wanted to, but he had to admit that seeing this coming out in her now made him wonder if there was something else going on that was bothering her. He almost thought to ask, but he knew she’d tell him if she wanted him to know.

Jack found her reason for attacking the snowman funny, which really wasn’t much of a surprise to Mazie. If he knew that she was upset about something it would make complete sense to him, but she wasn’t going to let that out. Jack has a way of making Mazie want to talk. Once she gave him a bit of a story, she almost always gave him the whole thing. Self-restraint wasn’t a thing when it came to her best friend. She shrugged, trying to hide her annoyance. ”Was bored, made a snowman. Was bored, made snowballs. Was bored, decided to attack.” By the end of her comment she was smirking, but it was mostly to hide her true feelings. ”You have plans for today then?” Mazie asked expectantly. How could he not have plans? He probably wanted to go find that girl. If she was braver, she’d ask him about her, but Mazie couldn’t. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie was pretty set on her vague excuse of being bored enough to start attacking her little creation and Jack wasn’t going to question it anymore. He was sure if there was anything big going on, she’d let him know. Maybe she was mad at her sister or her parents, or frustrated about some assignment. She could do whatever she wanted. jack wasn’t judging or trying to stop her. “No not that class is done.” He admitted. He’s go have dinner when it was time, but until then he didn’t have anything planned. Though he knew he should get some assignments done since he had the time. “Are you just going to be here until you kill it?” He teased.

Jack didn’t ask her more questions about attacking the snowman, which was definitely a relief to Mazie. She didn’t want to lie to him, though being vague was okay for her. She nodded when he said he didn’t have plans now that he was done with class. She was about to invite him to hang with her- she might as well do as much as she could with him before he started dating that girl- but he spoke again before she could. She forced a chuckle, ”Maybe. I haven’t really had anything better to do.” Mazie wasn’t opposed to doing something if Jack wanted, but he also wasn’t opposed to staying here. She picked up another snowball, slinging it and the snowman and hitting him in the head. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie admitted that she didn’t have anything better to do and Jack nodded, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched her pick up another snowball and take aim at the snowman before hitting it in the head where she was aiming. She was a good shot. He knew she was since he had seen her play quadpot, but it was still impressive to see. “We could do something else whenever you’ve got all your aggression out here.” He suggested, continuing to tease her. “Maybe go for a walk, play a round of Quadpot. Go to dinner early.” He added. He didn’t really care. But he wouldn’t mind spending some time with her. He hasn’t really seen her since the ball.

Mazie could sense Jack’s eyes on her as she hit the snowman’s head. Good. She was glad she actually connected this time. Also, her annoyance at him was starting to lessen. It was hard to be angry at her best friend when she was with him, especially when she was angry over something that wasn’t really his fault. He suggested they could do something else once her aggression was out and she rolled her eyes at him. ”I’m game whenever you are,” which meant they were probably about to do something else. She threw another snowball quickly, just because she could. She thought for a second when he suggested things they could do. Normally she would say a walk, but she was nervous he’d notice something was wrong ... but it was still the most appealing option to her. Mazie hesitated, not really wanting to make the decision. ”You choose!” There was a cheerfulness in her tone, completely fake. ”I’m good doing whatever you want to do,” Mazie promised. She was always happy to do what Jack wanted. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

Mazie agreed that she was down for whatever he wanted to do and he nodded, though he didn’t say anything right away. He was starting to get the feeling that something was a little off with her, but he didn’t want to pry. So he let her continue to throw snowballs at the snowwomen for a little bit before he spoke. “Why don’t we take a slow walk up to the castle for dinner?” They weren’t too far away from dinner time, they could just take their time getting there and maybe she’d decide to talk to him more on the walk. He didn’t like not knowing what was going on with his best friend.

Jack took his good old time deciding what they should do. Mazie didn’t mind. She just kept on throwing snowballs and breathing deeply. Hopefully Jack couldn’t tell, but Mazie didn’t know. It was a good thing she could deal with silence as long as her hands were busy. When he finally said that they should walk up to the castle, Mazie smiled and nodded, throwing one more snowball. ”I’m ready! That sounds good to me.” Granted, walking meant they would need to talk .... but while she was throwing snowballs she came up with a plan. ”So how was flying class? Anything interesting happen?” she asked cheerfully. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK
