December 28, 2024 Ashley was losing her mind. At least, that's what it felt like right now. She and Eli were having a blast at the Hogsmeade Festival, then those dragons had to appear out of nowhere and now he was hurt because of her. Because he saved her and the guilt was eating her up inside. The mediwizard that helped them in the village assured Ashley that Eli would be okay, that there wouldn't be any lasting damage, but that didn't make her feel any better about the situation. She sat by Eli's bedside in the Hogwarts Hospital Wing for what felt like hours. She shouldn't. She needed to go back to the village and find Joe, her brother. He'd definitely be worried if he couldn't find her soon. But ... she couldn't tear herself away from Eli's bedside. Every time he woke up, even in his half-asleep, definitely loopy state, her heart pulsed rapidly in her chest. Ugh, this was the worst. Eventually he woke up and was lucid enough to talk to her for a bit, which Ashley appreciated, but once he fell asleep again, she had to go. She rose from the chair beside his bed, her head starting to pound. Crap. When had her migraine even started and how did she not notice it? The problem was, she didn't have any of her feverfew potion on her. She'd have to ask for something or she was about to have a rough rest of her day, which wasn't fair considering that the day was already pretty hard. She looked around and, seeing someone who looked like a healer, she approached him. "Hey, sorry to interrupt. Um, might you have a potion for headaches, by chance?" she asked awkwardly, offering a hesitant smile. Her eyes were likely red from crying, her skin pale from worry, but now wasn't the time to wonder about her looks, so she tried not to think about it. scorpius hyperion malfoy

He should have, with all the deaths and kidnapping lately, but with books-to-read piling up and far too many exams for a single human, he hadn’t found much time to read the newspaper lately and didn’t realize the amount of danger lurking on their lives. If anybody had told him dragons would invade a Hogsmeade festival of all places, he would have shrugged and called them mental. Sure, people might have their reasons to hurt others, awful as they were, but dragons? Could anybody even control them? It seemed like too far a stretch, that fantasy of powerful, scary creatures suddenly endangering the visitants and villagers. Yet it happened, to the point that studying suddenly wasn’t as important and all healers - including those in training - were ‘called to battle’. He’d found, over the years, that the aurors mission of facing dark wizards and cutting the danger where it grew was very important, but nothing seemed quite as difficult as saving the lives of those who had gone hurt in the process. There were thin lines to cross, rapid decisions to make, sacrifices and so many races against time. Just today he’d learned how fast his legs could go, between running to get potions and getting them to help patients with whatever mixture he’d gotten his hands on. At some point, however, the patients in worst-case scenario were taken somewhere else or, if not close to stabilized, had already been assigned wizards to handle them. It meant Scorpius could breathe. It also meant he kept going person-to-person, checking in on them and offering his help. Some older medi wizards had been happy to take him up on that offer, others sent him away right as he talked. He’d just been sent away by one of those grumpy people when somebody… a person he didn’t remember knowing… made him stop. “Yes?” Spoken in a rushed tone, though he had nowhere to go at the moment. For a second he wondered if she needed help, careful eyes already inspecting for bruises. It all seemed fine. She was somewhat bruised, so he took it as a sign she had been at Hogsmeade, but the other wizards had probably taken care of anything she needed. Or… almost everything. “Oh. Yes, I do have it somewhere. A moment?” Frowning, Scorpius looked down to the bunch of potions he’d taken with him. Usually, the Malfoy wouldn’t let on emotions but this wasn’t the time to remain all reserved and introspective, he really was far too focused to care about his facial muscles. Plus, the girl seemed to have spent quite an amount of time crying, with the reddened skin and all. “Follow me? It’s best if I sit down to get the right amount in a cup for you.” He couldn’t have her drink anything at once. When they did find a bench, and he was quick to offer her water with some of the potion’s content, Scorpius decided it wouldn’t hurt to ask. “I take it you haven’t been crying because of a headache?” Perhaps he wasn’t your typical considerate, open person, but Scorpius cared; there were times he had to set his feelings aside and not be so worried about showing them. He seemed busy and Ashley felt a little bit bad about interrupting this guy, but he was the only healer she could see at the moment. So she wasn’t going to just walk away because he was rushed. Taking a few seconds to get her a potion wouldn’t hurt anything. At her question he paused for a moment, seeming confused, but it made sense. The hospital wing was so busy today with everyone that got injured, she wouldn’t be surprised if everything was out of place. Maybe it would take him a while before he’d be able to find a potion for her. Oops. He asked her to give him a moment and Ashley nodded, taking a step back. She didn’t want to be in his way or anything. He was a lot more precise than other healers she’d dealt with. Then again, after Eli helped her find her own potion for her headaches back at home last year, she hadn’t come asking for them. Maybe all healers in the UK measured everything out for you. At home they just said, “here’s the bottle. Take this much.” That was definitely easier, but she didn’t mind following this guy. ”I can do that,” Ash agreed before following him. It didn’t take him long to get everything ready, but he didn’t give her the potion until they were sitting down on a bench. She gulped it down quickly, forgetting in the moment how much she hated this potion. Eli’s feverfew was much better. She looked up when the healer spoke again, asking about her crying. Well that was definitely one thing Ashley hadn’t expected. She shook her head as she met his eyes. ”No. I get headaches kind of frequently, so I’m used to the pain, I just don’t like it.” That wasn’t what he was really asking though and Ashley knew it. She sighed, ”I was at the festival with my ... friend, best friend. We were on the ice when the dragons came.” Her expression darkened and her eyes watered with unshed tears. She pulled her gaze from the guy beside her to look at the floor. ”He pushed me out of the way and got hurt because of it. They say he should be fine, but what if he’s not? What if he’s permanently injured and it’s all because he saved me. I ... feel so guilty.”The fact that she was saying all of this to a stranger was basically a miracle. Ashley was a very closed-off person. Eli and Joe were the only people who truly knew her, which realization came down on her moments later. She frowned and turned toward him. ”Why am I telling you all of this? I don’t even know your name. Heck, you don’t even know mine!” Ashley instantly started to feel embarrassed, a new feeling for her. Normally she was calm and collected, 100%. Not now, apparently. scorpius hyperion malfoy

As it turned out, most of their beginning of training focused on how to properly act inside a hospital: safety measures, disposition of important potions and objects, how to handle both and, along with these pieces of knowledge, how to make it so patients were comfortable non-neglected. Though it wasn’t part of a healer’s work, that of acting as a babysitter or therapist, ensuring the victim’s wellbeing made the process of treatment a lot easier. Plus, they were given more room to breathe if they needn't worry about constant tears and risks of indispositions. It was only natural the Malfoy took learning to the heart and now could handle the information like a first instinct. Guiding the stranger towards a bench had been nothing but good sense, and though he was focused on handling her case and trying to figure out what it was she needed help with, Scorpius couldn’t help but grow increasingly curious as to why she was there; again, she didn’t seem like she’d just gotten off battle, so there could be a reason that differed from most wizards lying in beds. Took him seconds to reach the necessary amount of drops. Not too little it’d barely affect a child, let alone a grown-up, not so much it risked side-effects he could be made responsible for. The fact that he didn’t know her medical history proved another risk, but as it turned out most wizard potions were safe, even more the ones like he’d just used; of daily use, not nearly as strong as some of what the hospital had to offer. To get access to some mixtures, she’d have to turn into an actual patient and be treated for a serious condition. Apparently, not her case. Plus, he could do with a conversation right now, semi-exhausted from all the running. It’s why Scorpius listened and dutifully paid attention to her words. He supposed she could use somebody to listen to. It was a… funny sight, two strangers helping out each other though neither was sure how much help they could offer - and he didn’t mind it much. No words left his lips before she was finished, though it gave him something to think. Some guy had jumped right into danger to save her, Scorpius was sure he wouldn’t enjoy the title of friend for much longer if survival rates were anything to consider. Quite a cynic thought and somewhat unnecessary, but, at the same time, what could any of them do if they hadn’t survived? Life wasn’t a game, there was no such as destiny or fate and, truly, it was up to them to shape up how they lived until their deaths. It this person chose to sacrifice himself, he supposed they’d thought it was an honourable way to go.. no matter how stupid, which wasn’t his role to weight. “Because you’re in shock and you need somebody to talk to.” Shrugged, then. Scorpius offered a smile, though there wasn’t much else he could. Try and find the guy’s name, maybe, if she stayed there long enough for him to offer it. He didn’t know if she’d be even more hurt by his words, and he didn't really care, either. It was better listening to a harsh true then convincing themselves of a lie that would only make them all the more miserable. “He made a choice, didn’t he? Running to danger, jumping to save you. ‘Bet he was thinking straight when he did it, so you shouldn’t go on blaming yourself. Say he wasn’t there and you got hurt because of it, maybe he would blame himself. Is that fair?” He couldn’t help but smirk. Something about playing therapist these last few months was funny. He wasn’t the best of it and the fact he was alright with saying some hurtful truths made an interesting distinction. “All I’m saying is, you can’t go on blaming yourself for something that would happen nonetheless.” Paused, eyebrows slightly raised, eyes inspecting her face for the better part of two seconds before he concluded. “We can try and find him if you’d like it. I get access, but you’ll have to wait if they request me to help with somebody.”[attr="class","cnotesteddy"]714 words ● @ashley ● outfit - healer clothes, more on the casual side ● s2 [attr="class","credteddy"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + ADOX 2.0[googlefont=Dancing Script] [newclass=.cbgteddy]width:500px;background:#f2f2f2;padding:30px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cbgtopteddy]width:400px;height:120px;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.cimgteddy]float:left;width:100px;height:100px;padding:10px;border:1px #aaa solid;[/newclass] [newclass=.clboxteddy]float:right;height:100px;margin:15px 5px auto auto;text-align:justify;width:257px;[/newclass] [newclass=.ctoplineteddy]font-size:9px;letter-spacing:2px;text-transform:uppercase;font-family:verdana;color:#1c1c1c;[/newclass] [newclass=.cscriptteddy]font-size:23px;margin-top:-3px;font-family:Dancing Script;color:#744923;[/newclass] [newclass=.cscriptteddy span]color:#ccc;[/newclass] [newclass=.clineteddy]height:1px;background-color:#888;margin:3px auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.clyricsteddy]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:1px;text-transform:uppercase;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;color:#1c1c1c;[/newclass] [newclass=.cbodyteddy]font-family:verdana;color:#1c1c1c;font-size:10px;text-align:justify;line-height:14px;letter-spacing:0.5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cnotesteddy]font-size:9px;letter-spacing:1px;text-align:center;opacity:0.8;[/newclass] [newclass=.credteddy]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass] [newclass=.credteddy a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

The guy with her answer Ashley's questions before he said anything about what she'd told him and Ashley found herself nodding in agreement slowly. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense," she said. She did want to talk to someone, someone that wasn't Eli. She loved him and wanted to talk to him too, but she was nervous that if she did she'd end up spilling everything to him, all of her feelings and everything. It was much easier being vague with a stranger. She looked at the healer as he spoke, talking about how Eli made a choice, how he ran into danger and jumped to save her. He continued to explain how Eli made a choice and meant to do it, so she shouldn't blame herself for the choice that he made. As he spoke, the words actually made sense to Ashley, though she didn't think they would. She nodded when the guy asked if Eli would blame himself if she'd gotten hurt. Ashley smiled a little and nodded, "Yeah, he probably would have," she admitted. Eli was just like that. He wanted to take care of people, and he always took care of her. The healer summed up what he was saying and Ashley nodded, "Yeah, you're right," she told him. There was no point in trying to keep that to herself. The guy already knew he was right anyway. He offered to try and help Ashley find him and she smiled, chuckling a little. "You don't need to help me find him. I've been staying with him the past few hours. He's right over there," she pointed to the bed where Eli lay, sleeping once again. She sighed, "I should probably go though. I'm sure my brother's looking for me." Still, she stood there and looked at where Eli slept. Ashley didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay until he woke up and was healed and good again. It wasn't logical and she knew she couldn't, but that's what she wanted. She sighed, glancing up to the healer again. "So are you always here in the Hogwarts Infirmary?" Maybe if he was she'd come down here for a headache potion sometimes instead of using the bottles she had stored in her room. He was easy to talk to. scorpius hyperion malfoy

At the end of the day, she was one more patient who might leave it there a little less angry or sorrowful. He, for one, knew reasons somebody might not be one bit disposed to settle looking at the positive side of their world, but he imagined the dude she was talking about, whoever he was, might have survived and it’d be enough. Dealing with uncertainty had never been much of the Malfoy’s taste and for that reason he would much rather end the mystery, even if it hurt. What was the point of losing oneself into a sea of ‘what if’s’ when they could have the right, simple answer to deal with? It seemed far better to be miserable for something concrete rather than something imaginary. Taken by surprise, however, at her next words, Scorpius didn’t hide the slight raise of eyebrows while eyes searched for the place she’d pointed out. Nodded then, thinking to himself it’d save some of his time, a good thing… perhaps he’d be soon free to go home. He was about to say it, in fact, when she interrupted his thoughts with a question. “Hm?” Turned to her again, shoulders relaxing from the previous tension before the beginning of a smile settled for the corner of his lips. “No, not really. I’ve graduated last year and now I’m training to become a healer.” Something he was very proud of saying and let it show with a passing grin. She, too, made him comfortable. “If it helps, I used to. But no, we’re only allowed here when… bad things happen. I guess it’s a good thing that I stay away so much.” He’d laugh if he were in the mood for it, which wasn’t the case with so many hurt people. “You’re a student yourself? And that guy?” Pointed at her man (boy?)’s room, not exactly wondering but since time could pass like that, why not? The conversation seemed to dwindle down a little bit, both of them drifting into a comfortable silence until Ashley asked if he always worked at the Hogwarts infirmary. He explained that he was training to become a healer, so no he wasn't always here. It made sense and Ashley was a little relieved by that. She would have felt bad if he'd been here all year and she'd never noticed him. Not that she came to the infirmary a lot anymore, but she came sometimes. "Do you like the training?" she asked curiously. She nodded when he explained that he only came here when bad things happened. That made sense, and she was glad that he didn't have to come too often. She nodded, "Yeah, I'm a sixth year transfer from Ilvermorny. I got placed in Slytherin." Ashley chuckled when she realized she still hadn't introduced herself. "My name is Ashley Fontaine." She glanced over to where Eli was sitting and nodded, "Yeah, he's a student. Seventh year in Hufflepuff. He came from Ilvermorny too." Ash couldn't help the small tone of longing as she looked over that way. She was still hopelessly falling for him, but she couldn't tell Eli that. Not while he was conscious, anyway. "He's my best friend," she explained to the healer with what she hoped was a reassuring smile. scorpius hyperion malfoy

His brain had to make space for every single piece of information and, sometimes, this meant saying goodbye to other memories, even if he didn’t realize. The Malfoy was alright with it, given he’d never forgotten anything of importance. He knew, however, this conversation would last in his memories for a long, long time, perhaps even after he was finished with his training; it marked one of the few he had with patients that were… more than the normal healer-patient interaction. Even though he wasn’t one yet, these were the times that made the studying worth it, and let he know he was on the right path. "I really do. It’s not perfect, but it comes as close to it as something might." Added, after a second or so. He could think of several details he might have made differently if he had any power over training, but those were minor, barely important stuff. At the end of the day, he was learning with some of the best teachers the Wizarding World could offer - after all, the real good doctors knew what it meant working for St. Mungus -, one of the very best facilities and on top of it all, real passion. It hadn’t been a struggle finding out lots of students were forced to be there by their families, but he’d hoped everybody on his group shared his passion. Of course, he met some incredible people who did, and this was enough. A smirk, then - smart hat, it was. Though he barely knew her, he was happy she’d gone to Slytherin. It’s true Scorpius didn’t fully belong to the house, but having grown up there he felt a sense of pride to it. Upon hearing her, however, he’d only gotten more relaxed, to the point now his back fully touched the wall behind him. "I was part of Slytherin, not too long ago. Scorpius Malfoy." A nod, if only to greet her. "I can’t give you relationships advice. Never been in one, not for too long." He knew she might get offended, or surprised - he’d noticed the tone of her voice that had too much longing, reminded him of patients who struggled to say goodbye or rethought their lives plan after some drastic event. "But I’ll tell you what I would do, in your shoes. I wouldn’t lose time." A shrug, a smirk; he knew what he was saying, even if he’d never felt desperate for time with somebody. "Being a healer gives you some perspective and we get to talk to many patients while training. Time is what everybody wants but nobody can get it back. So, I would hold on to it while I can." Only then did his head, too, touched the wall - he was curious as to what she might say, maybe some of it would enter her head after all. Ashley smiled and nodded when the healer explained that he really enjoyed his training. That was good. At least he was studying for something that he liked. Her oldest brother had a habit of switching jobs, continually trying different jobs for a few weeks before deciding it wasn't for him. She was proud of him for searching for something he cared about, but the idea of finding something she would enjoy quickly also really appealed to the young woman. He seemed pleased for some reason when she gave her house. Ashley only had to wonder why for a few moments. The guy admitted that he was in Slytherin too, before he graduated. Then he gave his name. "Scorpius," she echoed, smiling up at him. "Nice to meet you." He continued to talk, explaining how he couldn't give her relationship advice because he hadn't really been in any relationships for long. That was okay. Ashley wasn't quite sure if she knew what to do about relationships either. She'd never really been in one. Scorpius started talking again, telling her what he'd do if he were here. Ashley smiled as she listened to his suggestions, nodding as he spoke, even though her expression fell a little. "I just ... I don't know how he feels, and I'm nervous that I'll ruin our friendship," she told him. "I already did that once and it was terrible. I don't want to do it again."

Fact remained he did ruin his friendship, by not considering the other person perhaps didn’t want the same things. Looking back, there was a handful of things he might have done another way. This isn’t to say she was going through the same event. With him, he could recognize a bit of impulsivity with young-ish selfishness, but she seemed to care a lot about the guy. He wondered then if he was right to think there was a good chance they did feel the same way about each other, with how she described their relationship and the whole ‘not-wanting-the-other-hurt’. "I don’t know if there’s a way to avoid it. Look, I’m not willing to admit what I don’t know, but even wizards can’t read other people’s mind, unless they happen to have this really rare skill." He showed her a smirk, then carried on with the rest of reasoning. "Do you want to only have a friendship with him? I know dudes aren’t usually that patient, but if you’re willing to be hurt so much… it’s not something I would choose, personally." Better to suffer by himself than wishing something he could never have. Not that he’d tell her that. If Ashley thought about what she was doing, she would have been shocked by how much she was confiding in someone who was all but a stranger to her. She'd only just met Scorpius, yet she was telling him all about what happened with Eli and what she wanted to happen. It was interesting how much he seemed to understand also. She smiled as the guy explained that most wizards couldn't read minds before he asked if she just wanted friendship. Ashley hesitated a second before answering. "I want more than friendship. I really like him, but I don't think he feels the same way, so I don't want to make things harder or anything." She quirked her head at the other guy. "Look at this objectively how?" She wasn't entirely sure what he meant by that. scorpius hyperion malfoy
