It’s a Thunderbird thing! (Open pre-exam party!)

Back at Ilvermorny there was a long standing tradition that went back to just after they instituted a standardized exam to the school. One that rumor has it was just a small get together for a few Thunderbirds which over time blew up into a massive party for all four houses. It moved locations multiple times to as it got bigger from what the rumors say also. From the Thunderbird common room to empty class rooms to the biggest empty room a student could find which was safe from a professor finding easily. The party was started to lighten the moods of the students who were obsessed with studying to the point it made school life depressing. People so focused on a simple test they let fun slip on by and did nothing but study for it. Daniel had many good memories from these parties. He had never been part of the planning process at it was typically reserved for the seventh year Thunderbirds. Now he was a seventh year but they weren’t at Ilvermorny anymore. No one seemed to be talking about it which he hadn’t expected. Most other thunderbirds had decided to not worry about it. This was a new school they didn’t know where it should be or how to go about it.

Daniel was also caught up in studying too. He had partly brushed off any thought of it happening as well but something didn’t really sit right with him. He wasn’t one for traditions but maybe it was because he had missed the last one being stuck at Hogwarts. He couldn't spend his last school years at Ilvermorny, the place he considered home, but at least he could plan this. He knew the castle well enough and for as much as he had disliked Hogwarts at first it did have a number of things going for it. One of which was the room of requirements. A room when found would turn easily into whatever the person needed. Ilvermorny had a number of special things about it but nothing like the room of requirements, if it had he never found it.

Eventually Daniel picked the perfect day for the party, not too close to the exams but close enough to get people to take a break from the crazy amount of studying. Daniel told a few Ilvermorny students he knew who would pass the message along. He had the momentary idea that only the Ilvermorny students should be invited. It was their tradition after all why should it be shared with the Hogwarts students. Still if they weren’t invited it would only cause problems. He also didn’t have too much of a problem with them coming either. He was over hating Hogwarts as much as he had before.

The night arrived and Daniel had already gone over what he needed for the party in his mind. As he remembered the room would draw from his mind just want it would make. He didn’t totally like that idea as he didn’t need some room digging in his head. He also didn’t like what it might could pull out. Pacing back and forth thinking about everything Daniel wanted the door soon appeared.

Opening the door he first saw that there was a table with snacks and a punch bowl that would refill its self. Soon to be spiked he imagined but he didn’t really mind. If anything it might already be spiked based on his own thoughts. There was a number of doors that littered the walls of the large main room. He assumed leading to closets. He only wanted one but there were multiple ones. Daniel shrugged not really that concerned. The room was decorated with just some different colored lights and there was a sound system ready to play music. With a mike and muggle screen but nothing on it as it shouldn’t work here anyway. He didn’t remember thinking karaoke but his mind pulled it from somewhere. His mind liked to think of its own thoughts at times. A dance floor near the sound system and another table with chairs all around in the corner, a bottle on the center of the table. Another thing he didn’t remember thinking of but there it was. He didn’t want to imagine what else the room would have made if he hadn’t thought of the room before hand.

With everything set up all he really needed to to was wait for people to start showing up. Granted he didn’t plan on being the host in anyway. He just started the party it was up to everyone else to do whatever they wanted from there. Bored from his minutes of just standing there Daniel made his way to the mike and sound system, curious just how it would work. Touching the mike the screen facing him lit up and the music started playing. So it was karaoke by thought, another thing that didn’t really like but it did pick a good song and Daniel thought what the hell before starting to sing along with the words while he waited for others.

The tradition of having a huge party before exams began had always struck Kaylee Mahi'ai as a "Thunderbird thing". Rumor had it that they were the ones who had started the tradition at Ilvermorny back in the day, so the responsibility had usually fallen to the oldest members of the House to plan the event. After a few months at Hogwarts, though, the former Horned Serpent had come to the realization that the party was less of a Thunderbird (or even Ilvermorny) tradition and more of an excuse for everyone to let loose for a night, which seemed to be something that the Hogwarts students were also interested in doing.

It was Daniel McKay, apparently, who had decided to bring back the Thunderbird party for everyone who was currently attending Hogwarts to enjoy—Ilvermorny transfer or not. Kaylee wasn't someone who partied extremely hard or anything, but she liked the idea of a break from some of the school stress. So, with that in mind, she made her way to the Room of Requirement, dressed casually in jeans and a T-shirt.

It took her a moment to check that she was at the right place, not seeing anyone else in the hallway yet. Once she was sure that she was just outside of the room, she began to pace in front of it, thinking about the party that was hopefully set up just inside.

After she had gotten in trouble with Professor Choi for spiking the drinks at the Valentine's Day ball, Sami had decided that she would leave that task to somebody else for the night. That didn't mean that she wasn't planning to attend the party that the Americans were starting in the Room of Requirement; of course she was. She had never really needed an occasion to drink or to do things that maybe she shouldn't have, but what better occasion than right before NEWTs? It was no secret that the exams were brutal, and she knew that she actually did need to focus on getting decent marks out of them. Maybe this was her last hurrah as a student (or at least her last one before NEWTs consumed her soul) so she really wasn't going to miss the opportunity to live it up.

Sami arrived to the Room of Requirement before the party had officially begun and watched as one of the American girls paced back and forth. She waited until the door appeared and the girl had realized it before moving, not wanting to frighten her with a sudden movement. She held the door open for the American girl and waited as she entered, following close behind her.

They had apparently caught Daniel McKay mid-song, which was humorous to Sami. He could have been worse, she thought, and she grinned at the sight of his singalong. "Having fun, McKay?" she teased him, looking around at what all the room contained. Once more people got there, she thought, the night was going to be a blast.

he'd heard through the grapevine that there was going to be a party. it peaked his interest more than a little because there was something about being in a room where the energy could be electric, where the excitement of people was at a high and the music was playing so loudly it allowed a person the chance to think. he loved being mixed up in the sort of energy parties brought so there was no way he was going to miss this. even if it turned out to be awful, it was going to be more fun than not going. apparently it was a tradition of illvermony to throw a party when the exams were close and that was one tradition that luke could get behind.

he walked down the hall to the room of requirement, there the party was apparently being held and he was just in time to see two people walk through the door. he quickened his step a little, thinking about the party as he walked with the hopes that the door would stick around long enough for him to walk through. the room itself was a finicky thing and could be quite tricky when it wanted to be, with a mind of it's own that seemed to enjoy playing jokes on people who didn't use it right or tried to get past it's defences. there was a moment of relief when the door hung around long enough for him to open it and he stepped through into the newly decorated room. he was early but that didn't matter really, there was still plenty of time for more people to get there. "do you think he's trying to draw the cats of hogwarts here, sami?" he said, with a joke that held no real insult behind it, as he walked up to his fellow gryffindor.

Daniel kept going with the song as the first few people started showing up. He recognized some and others not so much as they went about the room. Almost done with the song one of the fellow Gryffindors, Samira, walked up and asked if he was having fun. As it was almost over he just held back a momentary laugh and finished it up. As he was done another Gryffindor he had seen around walked up and started talking to Samira about his singing. Something about trying to draw out cats. Finally done he just laughed as he got of the little stage. The karaoke screen turned off and the music just started playing your typical background party music. Daniel shrugged for a moment looking back, the room could certainly do some interesting things when it wanted to. He walked over to the two Gryffindors. “I had to kill time somehow till all these fashionably late people wanted to show up.” Daniel joked looking toward Samira. Looking over toward the other Gryffindor that had shown up now seeing it was Lucas Weasley. “The mike is all free if you want to show me how it’s really done?” Daniel said with a teasing smirk as he was just playing around and figured Lucas had and if he wasn’t it was fine, Daniel had no plans to become a professional singer.

The next person to enter the room was Lucas Weasley, who Sami figured must have followed behind her and the other girl as they had entered. He teased Daniel by asking her if she thought that he was trying to attract all of the cats at Hogwarts with his singing.

Daniel, finishing up the song he had been singing, laughed but did actually finish the song before speaking. "I had to kill time somehow till all these fashionably late people wanted to show up," he told them. "The mike is all free if you want to show me how it’s really done?"

"Only if it's a duet!" Sami retorted with a giggle, stepping back an inch or so to keep from being urged towards the microphone on her own. She really didn't care; she'd made more of a fool of herself in the past, and it wasn't as though she had much of an audience to make fun of her yet.

KARAOOKKEEEE. Nora couldn't believe this was what she had been missing while being homeschooled. Hogwarts' kids threw amazing parties. She walked backward into the room, laughing with her friends as she arrived. It was easy to immediately spot the table with an empty bottle on it. Nora grinned, heading over there and having a seat. She placed the bottle in the center, pointing the tip at herself. She leaned back in her chair, waiting patiently for some people to join her in a game of 'Spin The Bottle'. This was Nora's kind of game. She wondered for a very short moment what Ares would think but... Alas, what he didn't know wouldn't kill him.

And he didn't know a lot of things.

he grinned as daniel walked over to them and talked about killing time. he could understand that. when he had time to kill and he was bored and trying to find a way to fill in some blank space, he'd do pretty much anything. it was how he ended up in some of the scraps he'd been in and things usually turned out okay. mostly. "how about the fashionably early? you want to make us suffer in the meantime?" he said, joking with his housemate once again. more people were walking through the doors now and with them came a hum of noise that was noticeable below the music, the lights flashed around them and seemed to bounce off of any surface that was reflective and it just seemed to raise the atmosphere in the room already. he saw samira take a few steps back while talking about a duet. "well come on then!" he said as he jumped up onto the small stage and started trying to look for a song he could sing, with or without anyone else.

As a few other students began to enter the Room of Requirement, Lucas took her up on her mention of a duet. He went ahead and jumped up onto the stage, and Sami laughed and followed him.

She got herself onto the stage and picked up the microphone. Tapping it with her finger—and relieved when it didn't squeal—she looked from the karaoke machinery to the other students who weren't on the stage and then back to Luke. "Alright," she spoke, testing out the microphone and listening to her voice as it echoed. "So, how does this work?" she asked, glancing at the screen, which then glowed. "Do we just think of a song, then? Or has it given us some options?"

Daniel laughed for a moment as Lucas joked about making the people who showed up early suffer with his singing. “I went through the trouble of putting all this together and getting people here. You can put up with me being the first song. I get the feeling I won’t be the worse one on the stage by the end of the night.” He joked as he knew he couldn’t sing but was well aware of others who thought they actually could and were even worse than he had been. Samira agreed to give the karaoke a try as long as it was a duet and Lucas took her up on that offer. Samira followed Lucas up onto the stage then asked how it picked the song. “Honestly it just picked one at random for me, I think like this room it just pulled it from my thoughts. Kind of creepy if you ask my but I imagine you can pick the song. I was just fine with whatever played.” Daniel explained to the two of them as he really didn’t know how the room of requirements did half of what it was suppose to.

”You kids go crazy.” Daniel added with a laugh as he left the two to sing as he wanted to go get something to drink. As he walked toward the table with the drinks and food he saw one girl just standing around. He wasn’t much of a host and once more people showed up it wouldn’t really matter anymore. Besides she looked familiar, she was at least from Ilvermorny, he could say something at least. “You just going to stand around the whole time?” Daniel teased for a moment, “Go dance or sing, or just follow me to the drinks. Your choice.” He offered suggestions, whether the girl did any of them was up to her. “I have no idea how the room made the food and drinks. If it stole them from the kitchen or used all the students that have gone missing over the years at this school.” He joked, I bit on the dark side but it was just a joke.

Kaylee hung back as the Gryffindors seemed to joke amongst themselves, with two of them going up to test out the karaoke system. She laughed quietly to herself at how eager they were and kind of wished that she had thought to bring her ukulele up from her dormitory. Apparently, though, her not moving for a moment or two caught Daniel’s attention, as he called her out on it. “You just going to stand around the whole time?” he asked her. “Go dance or sing, or just follow me to the drinks. Your choice.” That they already had food and drinks stocked in the room was surprising to her, and Daniel seemed to realize that, too. Didn’t that break some of the most basic laws of Transfiguration? “I have no idea how the room made the food and drinks. If it stole them from the kitchen or used all the students that have gone missing over the years at this school.”

She laughed awkwardly at Daniel’s joke, which was more than a little bit on the morbid side of things. “…As long as they’re good?” she considered, not sure how else to respond to that one. Hopefully the room was just smart enough that it had figured out how to bring up supplies from the school’s kitchens, like the tables in the Great Hall did. Kaylee didn’t know, but that seemed as though it was the mostly likely answer to that one.

A few more people had begun to enter the room, with a few moving towards a table with a bottle at its center. It was meant for playing Spin the Bottle, for sure, but Kaylee wasn’t sure if she really wanted to get involved in that. Maybe once more people started showing up? But food was definitely a safe bet, and maybe the drinks weren’t spiked yet. “Yeah, I’ll just go with you to the drinks,” she decided, moving in that direction.

Matt walked into the party, having heard of these yearly traditions the year he was at Ilvermorny. Even still it wasn’t his scene back then. Though why he would try it now was a mystery even to him. Still, he knew he needed to socialize and that did mean going to the party. Looking around, he noted a few faces he’d known to a degree or at least seen in passing and for the time being opted to stick to himself and observe. He saw the spin the bottle game and chuckled, but wasn’t sure if that was something he wanted to do, especially considering who was already there.

“I haven’t tried any of them yet.” Daniel answered with a shrug as the girl explained she would have some as long as they were good. As he hadn’t tried them nor did he think anyone had yet he was sure no one really knew yet. “I suppose I can be the Guinea pig.” Daniel joked for a moment as he might as well be the first one to try whatever this room had cooked up. He if put more thought into the party he probably could have had the house elves make the food and drinks. It would have been better than trusting the room that he didn’t even know how I’d did half of what it did. Finally the girl decided that she would follow him toward the drinks and started walking that way with him. “If we’re in luck no one will have spiked it yet.” Daniel joked as he had already thought that while making the room. Still he doubted the room would go as far as to spike its own drinks. It probably just stole everything from the kitchen many floors below them. “Unless that’s what you want?” Daniel asked jokingly toward the girl now following him for the table.

Today was a party day and A'dam was ready for this. He'd (today was a he day) heard the party was predicted to be insanely wild including things such as spin the bottle, which was the more innocent of other rumours he'd heard. Being stoked he smiled as he walked to the party. Tonight was going to be good! It was a pre-exam party but A'dam had studied enough to know he'd be okay. He still had responsibilities after all. He grumbled thinking about the twelve paged letter his uncle had sent him, including matters of state. He knew he needed the training but not tonight. Right now, party. Later, school and government.

As he sauntered into the part he looked around, trying to find the drinks table. Tonight was busy, which was good. He just had no idea who to talk to or where to start. He stood there for a bit, just wondering what to do. Then he suddenly chuckled and walked up to a random person that stood on their own. "Some party right?" He stated as a vague conversation starter. Hopefully that would work.

Daniel shrugged at her discussion of the food. "I haven’t tried any of them yet," he told her. "I suppose I can be the Guinea pig."

Kaylee laughed a little. "I'm sure they're fine," she replied to him. However the food had happened to materialize there, she doubted that it was actually so bad as to be inedible.

As far as the punch? If they were in luck, Daniel quipped, no one had spiked it yet. That seemed to be a trend at Hogwarts—the "spiking the drinks" thing—so Kaylee knew that Daniel wasn't entirely kidding about that one. "Unless that’s what you want?"

"No, um… No thanks." Kaylee shook her head as she walked. She was seventeen; legally speaking, she was allowed to drink alcohol if she wanted to, but she didn't really care to do that if she could avoid it. She preferred the thought of having gotten to the punch bowl before there was anything additional in it, in fact.
