can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria Rhys clenched his jaw. He was always amazed how something so simple as a message could just bring out the ultimate fury in him and so quickly too. Not fifteen minutes previously he’d been sitting calmly in the kitchens trying to sober up, but he’d been remarkably calm considering how temperamental he’d been feeling. Maria had gotten under his skin and that damn vampire and seeing Deva wherever he turned hadn’t helped. Ilija had disappeared so he couldn’t help distract Renfri from physically blocking him and cutting him off from his drinks whichever way he turned. It was ridiculous, he’d just wanted to leave and go sulk around somewhere until Vasilia had intercepted him. He’d calmed down and was about to head home when his phone buzzed and of course, he was instantly triggered. Even before she’d become pregnant, she had a knack for easily provoking him. It had been a long month since he’d gotten home from Egypt and everywhere he turned—there she was just pushing his buttons. Rhys had left the party before getting the text but now here he was having just apparated at Maria’s door. He hadn’t even considered if she would be home but he’d been holding in his usual snide comments and remarks the past few weeks but now he was just letting his anger guide him. He knocked. No answer. He knocked again but harder. No answer. It was a bit silly to knock considering he had the key but he hadn’t wanted to walk in on anything either. Rhys took keys out of his pocket and opened the door, he didn’t hear anything when he walked inside. She wasn’t home. Of course she wasn’t home. It only added to his irritation and he sat himself down on her couch (the previously melted one having been replaced) and he took out the enchanted flask the Curse Breakers had been passing around at the party. Renfri had been momentarily distracted when they realized Ilija had wandered off and hadn’t noticed him slip it inside his jacket pocket. He let out a frustrated sigh, he should probably go home but he figured he would sit a minute. Unscrewing the cap on the flask he took a heavy drink from it, the burning down his throat intense from the amount and he went for another drink as he heard the door open.

Was it a bit bratty to send Rhys an antagonizing text? Yes. Was it out of character for Maria? Nope. She was feeling particularly smug and embolden tonight. More so then usual. So, of course she’d texted him to ask if he’d liked her dress. She’d spent the rest of the party with Emrys, mercilessly flirting with him and others. Alas, good things always had to come to an end, and they’d eventually parted ways. That was when she’d texted Rhys. Then, she’d gone for a little walk, visiting a garden decorated in Christmas lights because, what else was she supposed to do? She’d be going home to an empty apartment. It wasn’t unusual. Spending Christmas alone. She’d done it last year. But it still hurt, not having Elias there. He’d been the only good thing about Christmas. Because he’d been one of the only people that cared. To make matters worse, she couldn’t even drink. So maybe it was her own bitterness that had made her text Rhys. Just to pick one last fight before the loneliness of Christmas set in.
Eventually though, she headed home. Because she could only wander so long before the temptation of going to a bar became over powering. At least she’d gotten rid of all the alcohol in her apartment. So while she was moping alone she wouldn’t have the temptation. Arriving back home she pulled out her key and unlocked the door. To her surprise, when she entered the light was on. She was pretty sure she’d turned it off when she left. But... guess she must have forgotten. She stepped inside, closing the door behind her, locking it, then stepped out of the narrow entrance hall to living room and kitchen combo. There, looking thoroughly riled up, was Rhys. Chilling on her couch. She raised an eyebrow as she shrugged off her coat. Like him, she was still in her clothes from the ball. Though, hers was much more scandalous. She set the coat down on the table. ”Well that’s just pathetic. Drinking alone on Christmas Eve?”

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria Rhys finished his second large drink from the flask and replaced the cap on it. He didn’t move to get up when she walked in, though he could hear heels as she walked to table and set something down on it. If he’d been more sober, he might have been able to think better about why he was even here. He thought about that night in November when he’d pretty much pushed his way in here much the same with a goal in mind but with a different type of anger. That time his anger had come from a place of hurt, this time it was a bit more raw and had been building over the past almost four weeks. They weren’t together, they weren’t a couple, she wasn’t his girlfriend and yet he was stuck with her simply because she was going to have his child. The reminder made him want to return to the incredibly drunken state he’d achieved that night at the pub, maybe it was better he didn’t remember a thing. Rhys looked up at her, his eyes were dark and serious and his mood along the same lines. ”I’d offer you some.” He said casually, removing his tie clip and putting it in his pocket and then undoing his tie tossing it on the couch next to him. Tie’s had never been his favorite, even during his school days. Another frustrated sigh and he stood up facing Maria, he could feel all the whiskey he’d drank that night but with his tolerance he was quite steady still. She was still wearing the dress, or whatever that excuse of a dress was. Even just looking at it again and glancing to see everyone’s reaction earlier had stirred something territorial in his core. ”Maybe it is pathetic but apparently it’s the only way to deal with you.” Rhys walked toward her slowly his eyes examining her from top to bottom as he’d done earlier in the evening. The flask was still in his hand. ”I thought we were beyond you treating me like some plaything.” He was angry and irritated, he’d let her do whatever she wanted this past month as some kind of penance for not only getting her pregnant but running off to Egypt but he was tired of it.

Maria had to admit. He looked good dressed up. A very different side of Rhys. Put together, respectable. Not traits she slept with him for, but she could admire the view. As unconventional as their "relationship" was, she wouldn't lie. Rhys was an extremely attractive man. She eyed him as he drank from the flask, the casually leaned forward to start unclasping her high heels. Though she didn't need the height (because she was already on the tall side) she looked damn good in stiletto heels likes these. Plus, they'd so perfectly complimented her dress! She made sure to angle her body so that he couldn't get to see anything, just to tease him. "Who said I'd want some?" She asked, as if she was somehow, magically, not craving alcohol all the time. Because god dammit, she was. She straightened, setting her shoes on the chair and reaching up to untie her hair, letting her locks cascade down over her bare shoulders just as he approached.
As he mentioned being past her treating him like a plaything, she tilted her head, her gaze slowly trailing across his body. "Please. I treat you exactly how you want to be treated." She took a step closer, closing the distance between them, then raise a little on her toes, to bring her face close to his. Her dark eyes intensely staring into his own. It was sometimes unnerving to others. The way Maria would meet your gaze without any sort of falter or hesitation. "You're the one here. In my apartment. Waiting. Practically begging. You try to deny it, but we both know the truth. You like being my plaything." She whispered, though there was a deep intensity to her words, her gaze still hyper focused on his own. Then, as quickly as she'd moved in, she pulled away. She took a few steps back, turning away from him and back to the table as she took out her earrings. "You never answered my text," she added as she set the earrings down on top of her coat, turning her head to look at him with a wicked smirk. Oh, she was being a smug brat right now. But could you blame her? It was fun riling him up.

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria Rhys gave her a look. She’d made it abundantly clear when he’d first found out about her pregnancy that she wished she could have a drink. In fact, he’d restocked what he’d drank during the year with what she’d given him to remove the temptation from her own apartment. He felt thankful he’d creatively acquired the flask when Renfri wasn’t looking or he would have had nothing to drink here. She’d removed her heels and let down her hair, though she was attractive either way he much preferred the heels on. But considering the current situation and his mood he wasn’t about to mention anything as he might have a few months ago. Despite the amount of time they had been spending together or not sleeping alone she’d still kept him at arm’s length. Which was frustrating in itself but he had other friends where that was concerned, but none of them could match to her. Even with all their constant bickering and fighting and rare calm conversations there was an undeniable chemistry there. She moved closer to him and he didn’t move, he’d never admit the small amount of truth in her words. She moved ever closer and he still didn’t move, there eyes finally meeting. He was used to this by now, it might have caused other men to buckle but not him. But now she was taunting him, and it didn’t matter how often they did this it had the same effect of only adding to his frustration. When she backed away, he took a deep breath, she had an upper hand on him since she was completely sober and he very much wasn’t. ”I’m not begging for anything.” He responded simply, taking a few steps forward as she looked back at him. Their gaze met for a few moments before he stopped behind her though not too close. ”Maybe I came here to answer in person.” The dress was rather small and so much of her skin exposed, he could have reached out to touch her, but he didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of being right—not yet. ”I don’t think a text would have done my thoughts any justice.”

Having to be sober really made someone realize how dependent they'd been of alcohol. She'd had the shakes for days, though those had long since stopped. All the withdrawal symptoms had, thankfully. All of them except a constant craving. But she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of knowing just how hard it had been to fight the compulsion. While things were... sort of okay between them currently she was still very wary. Very guarded. Careful what she told him or didn't. Because she wasn't going to be emotionally burned again.
Rhys held his ground, though to no surprise. He'd long since grown use to her intensity. That didn't stop her from still trying, however. She was a dominant person, unflinching, unwavering, once she set her mind to something. Likewise though, so was Rhys. It was why they either worked well, or were a total disaster. Two opposing forces could be in harmony at times, but eventually one would try to overpower the other and the chaos would return. "Really? Feels pretty 'begging' to me." He was the one waiting in her apartment after all. While he'd been coming over for more... well normal reasons lately, he'd used to only come when he wanted something. Not that she'd ever complained.
Maria turned back to him, leaning against the kitchen table and making sure to shift her body in just the right ways. Her legs stretched out to show off just how short the dress was. Her palms on the table as she leaned her torso forward just a touch so that the cleavage was in the almost ideal location to look down into from a standing position. Her head tilted back to look at him through those thick and dark eyelashes of hers with the softest smirk. "What's your answer then?"

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria It didn’t seem to matter who started it, who provoked who or who showed up at the other’s place. It was always the same. One challenging the other as they bided their time though none of them was actually willing to give up control. Rhys thrived on his ability to control, mainly himself but Maria challenged that part of him every time she was near him. Normally the mischievous look on her face, fire in her eyes and Veela charm eventually might bring him to his knees but this time he wasn’t sober and that damn dress. There had been that rare occasion that he’d completely dominated her and she’d let him, but it was hard to say who was really in control most of the time. Rhys always managed to find her before when he wanted but she’d also let him. The dynamic had certainly changed but mainly out of necessity, had she not been pregnant they might have never spoke again or she would have pushed him away or even literally burned him. But now he was stuck with this infuriatingly stubborn woman who seemed to derive pleasure in seeing him uncomfortable in anyway possible. Begging, however, was not his style. The club had been a unique situation and he wasn’t going to repeat that. She turned to face him, no doubt to further show off said dress that was the focus of the conversation now. If her goal had been to garner his attention she had succeeded the second he’d noticed her at the party and all the times she’d shown up nearby afterwards. ”If you wanted to get my attention, well you got it and you have it. Is that what you want to hear?” He moved in closer, still fighting his control, since she was leaning on the table, he towered over her a few inches more than normal. She was only antagonizing him in a different way than other times, but he didn’t see why she would bother with the effort if she wasn’t looking for something in the end. Rhys locked eyes with her for just a few moments before his eyes trailed from her eyes to her face and then further down. Honestly had he not had that bit of time to sober up in the kitchen he would have reacted sooner, his self-control tended to fly out the window the more he drank. Thankfully, he had quite the tolerance. ”What’s your endgame here, Maria? Hm?” He placed the flask he had been holding on the table next to her hand. Though most of her was visible her hair was still covering her shoulders and reached up to push it back past her shoulders, his fingers touching her bare skin now. Still, the question had yet to be answered and she was letting him closer than she had in a while which was driving him a little wild now. He paused and chanced leaning in a bit closer and he spoke with a lower tone. ”You should’ve kept the heels on.”

Maria tilted her head back a little more, to keep her eyes on him as he moved closer and mentioned getting his attention. He made it so easy sometimes. Or maybe she just knew exactly what would drive him over the edge. Or both. Technically speaking there was almost 2 months of built up frustration and anger between them. While much of the anger had been worked out at the beginning of the month, when they finally addressed the pregnancy thing, that didn't mean there wasn't any there. Or that there were now new emotions mixed into the emotional storm. While Maria wasn't totally celibate, she'd had far fewer encounters since finding out she was pregnant then normal and for probably the first time in her life she had a lot of pent up sexual frustration. "I wasn't after your attention," she said slowly, as if to taunt him. Of course the dress had gotten his attention, but she hadn't gone to the party for him. Something he'd probably noticed considering how she'd been acting with Emrys. "Your attention was a bonus." She added with a grin, as if to admit she hadn't been trying to stop his attention once she'd known she had it.
He mentioned her end game and she tilted her head dramatically to the side, like a cat cocking it's head after spotting something interesting and hadn't decided if it should attack it. She didn't respond immediately, as she saw his hand finally reaching out to brush her hair off her shoulder. Her gaze dropped to that hand for a moment, before trailing back up to his own eyes. "No endgame." At least, none she was willing to share.
Because, honestly? There was an endgame now. Now that she'd found him in her apartment. Before she'd accepted the fact that she'd be alone tonight. Like last year. Christmas brought bittersweet memories. Good memories... Bad memories... She didn't know if she liked or hated Christmas. But she knew she hated being alone. Hated being left to her own dark thoughts. His appearance here had made that loneliness painfully clear to her and now... Now she just desperately didn't want to be alone. Not tonight. She wouldn't tell him that. Wouldn't tell him how horribly lonely she felt, or how she desperately needed his company. Because she already realized in this moment how selfish she was being. He had family he could spend the holiday night with. He didn't need her tonight the way she needed him.
At the mention of her heels, she grinned wickedly. "I can put them back on," she whispered back.

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria Rhys knew that he had changed their dynamic when he had just disappeared as he had done, she’d made that perfectly clear when he’d gotten back and hadn’t really stopped reminding him in her own way. Though he couldn’t blame her, he’d avoided opening up just for that reason himself. There had been quite a bit going on after that. Learning what he had about Elias and then some other things, plus he felt this strange closeness to the woman in front of him despite there being almost no reason to. It overwhelmed him and he’d run. She tended to frustrate him in many ways, not only by constantly arguing with him or making snide comments but by wearing outfits like her dress tonight knowing fully well he would see it and then not let him near her. It made him want to punch a wall, and only added to his desire for a drink among other things. She claimed to not have an endgame, but even Rhys knew her better than that. He looked at her, ”You never do anything without something in mind.” She liked to have her fun, he knew that much. Whether it was a specific goal such as sex or something else such as submission, she was a determined individual. They shared that trait. Though at this point she was winning in terms of control though he also was pushing down the urge to pick the flask back up and drink more from it, but his pride wasn’t ready to let her know where he stood. Plus, when she offered to put the shoes back on, he had to remind himself to breathe. It was no wonder he hadn’t been able to stay away, she drove him insane in so many ways. ”I’d like that.” He spoke back, the same low tone. Would she actually do it? Probably not, in Rhys’ experience asking nicely never seemed to work with her but he was fighting himself to take his time and for now it was working—but he knew himself.

Rhys knew her well, despite her wanting to deny it. While there were many parts of each other that were complete mysteries, their personalities was not one of them. He knew her schemes, just like she knew his. He knew she was up to something now, but she knew that he wanted something. It made moments like this fun. Because they were both up to something, they both knew it, but neither would admit their own reasoning. Not until one of them snapped and just took what they want. Tonight... Maria felt like she'd be the first to break, despite his being buzzed already. "Maybe I'm just very... very... bored?" She answered slowly, her gaze trailing down, before returning to his own.
Maria loved when Rhys was "polite". It wasn't in his nature and she got a sick pleasure out of knowing she'd driven him to act that way. It was a rare treat, because he rarely acted that way. It almost made her seriously consider putting them back on. But then, it would complicate later activities if she did. She leaned in, rising on her tip toes and her lips only a breath away from his own. "To bad," she whispered. It was a bit bratty, since he'd asked so nicely. But she made up for it by closing the little distance she'd left and kissed him. His lips were warm against her own, and she could practically taste the whiskey. She was still mad at him. Still hurt by his actions. But god, she just needed to not be alone right now. She needed someone that could distract her from her dark thoughts.

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria Seven months. That was approximately how long ago this woman in front of him had bought him an entire bottle of whiskey as they had unknowingly mourned the loss of the same loved one. In that amount of time, she had become something of a habit. Some might say it was a bad one but a habit nonetheless, and despite his usual annoyance at her constant antagonism and her ability to get under his skin--he couldn't get enough. Sometimes she was very easy to read, and those days were less of a battle for him to gain some kind of control or whatever control she was willing to hand over to him. She liked to have her fun, and he knew he was right when he said she never did anything without something in mind. Rhys didn't think he was hiding his intent. He hadn't been lying when he said she had his undivided attention now. The amount he'd had to drink made it hard to stay in control. He could just grab her and have his way with her, but where was the fun in that? Over time he'd learned that there was some fun in patience, though the urge inside of him was loud as ever. She'd basically been keeping him at an arm's physical length for a long time now. She mentioned being bored, and he couldn't help but smirk, "Well, we can't have that, can we?" She was used his wild self, the one that demanded rather than waited, but their dynamic was always evolving though, at its core, it never changed. He didn't move when she leaned toward him and got close. He could feel her breath on his lips as she whispered a soft denial to his request. Though rather unexpectedly, she leaned in and kissed him, and he pulled her against him. Rhys had been ready to pull her towards him in the event she had taken a step back, but it hadn't been needed. There hadn't been the usual back and forth or teasing or pushing him away until he couldn't stand it. Maybe she needed this as much as he did. Rhys kissed her back and pushed them both toward the table, where he maneuvered her to sit on its surface and on the edge. Her very short dress slid up further now that she was sitting versus standing, and Rhys took the opportunity to run his hands up her legs and to her waist. He paused to take a breath and look at Maria, he wouldn't admit how much he missed this, and he leaned back in to kiss her and then moving to her exposed neck.

There were few people Maria slept with as long as Rhys. Adonia, off and on (nothing consistent), because... well that was just fun and they'd known each other forever. Emrys, because they really only cared about one thing and neither had to worry about the other getting attached. But Rhys? Well, they should have ended this a long time ago. After that first night. But like magnets they got pulled back together. And like magnets they kept coming back together. Each and every time. Like an addiction that just couldn't be beat.
Maria being bored wasn't a good thing. She tended to cause havoc when bored. As time had proven on a number of occasions. Plus, she hadn't worn this dress for just show. She'd been looking for a good distraction tonight. And she'd found it. A rather frustrated and buzzed distraction, but that was always when he was best. He didn't hold back when he was angry. "Entertain me?" She whispered, the cutest pleading in her voice. It was almost innocent, but Maria was far from innocent.
Rhys moved instinctively when their lips touched, grabbing her and pulling her against him. Maria's arms wrapped around his shoulders, kissing him harder. She only unwrapped her arms long enough to blindly push her coat off the table as he pushed her against it, then sat on the surface. The dress, already scandalously short, was even more so, a fact not lost on Rhys in that moment. She moved into his touch, lightly biting his lower lip before he pulled away and looked at her. She wondered if he might stop. Say this was a bad idea. But he didn't. Thank god. Because she didn't need a lesson in what was, and wasn't a good idea right now. She just needed something that felt good. Screw the consequences. It wasn't like they had to worry about her getting pregnant again.
Maria let out a gasp as he moved to her neck and she tilted her head, exposing more skin for him as her arms moved towards the front of his suit, fumbling with the buttons of his dress shirt.

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria There was a sense of urgency, and when Rhys felt her forceful hands on the front of his shirt, he moved his hands back to shake off his blazer and throwing it aside somewhere. Just like all the other times, he'd figure out where his clothes went off to later. He'd been quite frustrated at the party, between his friends stopping him from approaching Deva as he had drunk quite a bit and Maria flaunting what little she wore in front of him and in public where they couldn't really talk or be seen alone together. His temper would always be his weak spot, and Maria had very quickly figured that out in that private room in that club that day and gotten under his skin as nobody had before. Even after he had calmed, it had just taken a single message to return him to that fury, the rage that only she could inspire from him. Tonight, however, was different. She wasn't fighting him like usual, pushing him away until she decided to let him in, and even with the distance that she'd placed between them over the past few weeks and the distance he'd placed the month before, it still felt like old times. He'd missed this. She wanted to be entertained, she asked him--they both were a strange mix of desperate need and civility at the same time. Once his blazer was off pulled off his tie and threw that aside as well before leaning in to kiss her again. His hand went to her back, where he tried to figure out if this large piece of fabric that was supposedly a dress had a clasp of some sort. Normally they weren't so dressed up for such an occasion, and this part didn't take so long. Once Rhys felt his shirt untucked and the buttons were undone, he pulled back to also slip that off, the cool air hit him, and he realized how warm he was feeling. A mix of her, his need, and alcohol had him all riled up. Rhys smirked, she seemed to want this just as much as he did, and while a lot had changed, he was glad that this part hadn't. Before he leaned back in to kiss her again, he spoke in between heavy breaths. "I see you got a new table." He'd noticed when he'd walked in, knowing very well what had happened to the last one, and it certainly hadn't been his first time in this situation with a table by any means. Rhys kissed the spot on her neck right below her ear, a sensitive spot as he finally found the clasp. Maria's dresses always seemed to test his patience regardless of the occasion.

Rhys wasn't pulling away. He wasn't deciding halfway through the action that this was a bad idea and stopping. Despite it having been almost two months since the last time they'd slept together, she could feel his silent agreement. That they'd both missed and needed this. Needed a release. Particularly after all the fighting and arguing that had been going on. Normally they'd just channeled all their arguments into the night. Somehow sex had become a way of communicating anger, and frustration. Going so long without it, with him, was.... she'd tried to fill the void with someone else but no one else got it. No one else just let go of all restraint like Rhys did. She also didn't have to worry about breaking him, like she did others, that she might push him past what he was comfortable with. She felt desperate for this. So desperate that she didn't bother with her usual games and teasing.
Maria arched her back, leaning into him, as he hands moved to the back of her dress and searched for the zipper of her dress. She didn't bother to try and help him, just forcefully kissed him back and worked on the buttons of his dress shirt. She was making quick work of them, and was soon yanking the shirt free of his trousers and belt so he could discard it. He did, pulling back to slip if off and toss it blinding in the same direction as his blazer. The short separation gave her a moment to appreciate him, her eyes slowly wandering down to his chest, then back up to his eyes. He'd always had a good body. Must be all the curse breaking. She expected him to come back in immediately, but instead he spoke and she laughed. "Do you like it? It's stronger then the old one." They'd both had to replace some furniture in their apartments. The kitchen table had been a casualty of that intense November night. He finally moved back in, his hands going back to work on undoing her from the dress. She tilted her head to the side, letting out a soft breath as she felt his lips on her skin. God, she'd missed this. The dress started to give, and she knew he'd found the zipper. "Care to test it out?" Her hands moved down his bare chest, savoring the feeling of his skin, before reaching the top of his trousers. Immediately she moved her hands to his belt, working on unclasping it.

can't help myself got secrets I can't tell December 24, 2025 @maria The thought had crossed Rhys' mind, when he wasn't with Maria, about how she might react if he was in this situation and decided to pull back. Merlin knew she did her fair share of teasing and pushing his buttons, but now that he was here, there was no way he could muster that kind of will power, nor did he want to. He wasn't supposed to see her, let alone sleep with her. Rhys had promised, but her pregnancy had made it impossible for him to stay away despite everything. The complexity of the situation was not something he wanted on his mind at the moment. He just wanted to forget, he just wanted to get lost in the moment, he just wanted her just like they used to be. Pregnancy aside, the need he felt confirmed what he had known but hadn't wanted to acknowledge. They needed one another, even if they hated that fact. This wasn't about compatibility or romance but just two people who understood and could handle one another like nobody else could. They weren't wasting time, and even if they hadn't been celibate over the past two months (have you met them?), they hadn't been with one another. She laughed a bit at his table comment. It seemed that one way or another, they were both involved in the destruction of her furniture. If he remembered correctly, Maria's table was not the first piece of furniture he and somebody else had managed to break, and he hoped it wouldn't be a new habit for him. For now, he just smirked, and as he only needed one hand to deal with the clasp of the dress, the other settled high on her thigh. Something else he missed, the feel of her skin, and her being close to him. When he'd left for Egypt, he'd very quickly realized how accustomed he had become to her physical presence, which hadn't helped his thoughts at the time. The dress loosened, and he felt her hands on his chest as they traveled down. His body tensed slightly, but only because her touch felt so warm against his skin. Rhys moved his head back so he could see her face, his eyes locking with hers for a moment. "Might as well." Rhys responded, his voice low. "We should probably check the new couch too." He suggested casually. Her dress was taken care of more or less, and so would his belt be in due time, though as soon as Rhys could feel that the buckle was loose, he was growing impatient. Leaning in to kiss her, he was able to push the dress up further. With such little material and coverage, it wasn't a lot of effort to do so. [y'all know...] As far as he knew, the table was still standing, and the couch had survived. At some point, they'd ended up in their room, though he wasn't sure what time it was anymore. Maybe it was still Christmas Eve. Maybe it was technically Christmas day now. It had become a rare occurrence for him, but he could feel the beginnings of a small headache. If attending the party hadn't exhausted him, then Maria had taken whatever energy had been left. Rhys rolled onto his back and stared at the dark ceiling, his eyes tended to adjust quickly to the dark, and he tried to remember when was the last time he'd been able to stare at it like this. Rubbing his eyes, he wondered if it was worth getting up and searching for the flask he'd indefinitely borrowed from Renfri and if she'd even noticed. But then he felt Maria stir next to him, considering what was happening in her body at the moment he had tried his best not to wake her--but she could be as restless as he was sometimes.
