December 30
Emrys loved work. He loved to wright, play and all in all create music. He was successful enough on his own, but he had also joined a band, Bête Noire. Wanting to change things up, he had become their drummer. The band hadn't been going for too long, but their amazing manager, Charlotta Holopainen, was good at what she did. While she could be tough, especially on him, she was a great manager.
It was late afternoon, and the sun hadn't yet started to go down, and that meant that it was early for Emrys, who rarely left the house this early (unless absolutely necessary). But he had appeared in the studio lobby, sunglasses on, he made his way to the practice room where he was meant to meet the rest of the band. They had been booked to play at a New Years Eve party that someone was putting on. Emrys didn't care much about the details, any party could be made fun. You just needed the right type of people, and alcohol always helped.
Being a vampire, his daily schedule was different than most. So he knew that he was late. He walked into the room, his usual smirk on his face. "Shall we get started"

Most of Levi’s life he was used to being the one who was often times late. It wasn’t on purpose, time just slipped away from him. When he first joined the band he expected to be the late one for most things but that hadn’t been the case. Typically Emrys, his vampire band mate who played the drums took that title. Sometimes even Layla. There newest addition to the band, Lance, hadn’t been with them long enough for Levi rate how late he could be. At least on a scale compared to the rest of them. They recently had a gig booked at a local pub for a New Years party which was fine with him. Gigs didn’t need to be some highs sold out show. As long as it got to play and their was a stable flow of alcohol he would be just fine.
He was sitting with the rest in their practice room as they waited for Emrys so come in, eventually. Levi wasn’t in any rush and at this point it was expected someone was always running late. Typically Emrys. With that thought the door swung open and there he was, with his normal smirk in place asking if they should get started. He just laughed for a moment. “We could wait a bit longer if you got somewhere else to be.” Levi joked as he waited for the rest to join in or get ready to play.

put on your red shoes and dance the blues to the song they're playing on the radio Layla was excited about this gig. Even if it wasn't a big one, it was a good experience and exposure for them. Like any team or group, they still had some work to figure out their flow and how they worked together. The lineup was a full one: two guitars, a bassist, and a drummer though Emrys already had a reputation in this industry and a famous face despite not being at the forefront of the band. She stood and held her guitar in her left hand in the middle of the neck and carefully placed it on the stand near her seat. It was tuned and ready to go. She put her guitar pick back in her pocket so she wouldn't lose it, though she had a few more in there as well because inevitably they did. It was another advantage of an electric guitar. There was no opening in the body for a pick to fall into. She stood and stretched, extending her hands straight into the air for a moment before dropping them and looked when Emrys finally walked in. It was typical for him to be late, but she never felt it was anything to stress about--nor was it anything that they could particularly control. And at least the attention wasn't on her for being a few minutes late because she'd gotten distracted on the way here. Overall she liked the guys and didn't mind being the only girl, and she was just happy for her chance. Plus, the New Year's Party was going to be fun, and she was looking forward to that aspect as well. "He probably just had to dodge all those adoring fans to get here." Layla said with a playful smirk.

▲ Bête Noire was an interesting group. Lance had spent a decent amount of every waking moment since he had joined with at least one of them, and when he wasn’t, he was trying to get an idea of how the entire industry worked. His former band had been an awful example of that, and he had realized quickly that he had been led to believe some dangerous things about the ‘rockstar life’. Now, not all of them were untrue. So far it had seemed like he was going to end up having his hands full dealing with Emrys, who had the baggage and advantage of already holding a musical career, and Levi and Layla certainly knew what they were doing as well. Lance had, what, a couple dozen shows in basements throughout Europe, and had no idea what it was like to actually have a recording studio and practicing space. He had virtually been dropped into the first band, and it felt like the same thing was happening here as well. At least is seemed a lot more organized, having a manager and bandmates that knew what they were doing. He felt like he didn’t have to be as aggressive as he had with the previous band, allowing him to retreat a bit back into his normal roots. Which was strange, considering he was the odd man out on a lot of fronts, and in more than just musical experience. A werewolf, part-veela, and vampire - and while he knew how to deal with the latter, the other two were new to him. Friendly and harmless, he had to keep telling himself that it was almost the same as being one of the only Americans at Hogwarts for the longest time. He could convince himself with that comparison, at least. “I’m ready if y’all are,” Lance said from his corner, having been camped there while waiting for Emrys’s arrival, looking over the set list they had agreed upon a few days earlier. “Can we fit in all of these songs in the time they gave us?” he added. It seemed like it was possible, but if there was an act before them that ended up running long, they would have to slash at least a song or two to make up for it. @emrys @levi @layla ● 383 ● Good golly Miss Molly by Creedence Clearwater Revival MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Emrys was used to being the last to arrive to band meetings, functions, rehearsals. It wasn't always his fault. Being the only vampire of the group, things were often scheduled just about the time he could safely leave his apartment. So really, it was a scheduling thing. Sometimes, yea, he was late because he chose to. Those times, were often because he had something better to do. But he always arrived, and was rarely too late. He had a habit of doing what he wanted. It was good that he enjoyed music, and often wanted to work. But people telling him where to be, who to be with, and what to do, simply drove him crazy. He was nothing but himself, out to have fun.
He finally walked in to the room, and was greeted by a laugh of the resident werewolf Levi. It was a shame he was straight. The man mentioned somewhere else to be and Emrys laughed, looking over each bandmate, licking his lips, making sure to wink at Layla. "I think my entertainment will be around after we practice." Layla was a good friend, and when they weren't working, quite a fun one at that. "Adoring fans are never a bad thing, in any situation." Emrys did have his own fan base by this point, and he made sure to humor them when he met them. Pictures, autographs, polite conversation, and when he was in the right mood, perhaps an exclusive.
Moving to the drum set, taking his comfortable seat, and picking up his wooden drumsticks. Emrys had performed in a number of shows, big and small, so he knew the ropes. Lance, their newest addition seemed to have no clue what was going on. "That's the plan, but if it seems we're running long, we skip a few of the less liked ones." He shrugged. It was simple. He knew that it was nice to have plan, but live shows rarely went to plan. The best thing was to just go with it. "Just follow my lead." He said with his usual suggestive tone and expression, "I'll help you through it."

Levi and Layla both got their playful jabs in at Emrys’ lateness. Sadly Lance, being new, didn’t join them. He could understand why he supposed but this was almost a ritual. The last one to arrive was usually greeted with a few jokes at their expense. Layla mentioned trying to avoid his adoring fans, which is why it took him so long to arrive. Emrys said that having adoring fans was never a problem. “Yes, I can see how having so many willing companions and meals could never be a bad thing,” Levi replied with another laugh. Levi had his smaller share but Emrys was much the face of the band. He drew them in as well as Layla’s Veela charms. As long as he got to play he didn’t have a problem.
Lance finally spoke up that he was ready when everyone else was before questioned just how many songs they could fit in this set. Emrys explaining that it was the plan they do but if things dragged on they could skip a few. “As long as we end on something big we can skip the lesser ones.” Levi liked to end on a big bang, rather than leave the stage on one of the weaker songs. Not that they exactly had a bad one but he felt it was best this way. “I imagine we’ll be getting free drinks at this thing after so let’s end on time,” Levi added with a laugh, only partially kidding. He was never one to turn down free drinks just about anyways. With that they got finally practice, Emrys stating to just follow his lead and he would help them through this.

put on your red shoes and dance the blues Layla looked at Lance, where he had taken a seat while reviewing the setlist. It was a decent amount of songs, and they had ended up with more than enough. In Layla’s mind, it was better to have too many than too little. And it was also a good sign. They didn’t seem to have issues working with one another though they were still learning each other’s styles. Layla herself wasn’t terribly picky when it came to music genres and happily entertained new bands and sounds though she preferred rock music as a whole. Today, for example, she wore her light gray David Bowie shirt—one of her favorites. Emrys winked at Layla, and she offered him a grin in return, they were good friends and had their fun, but this was work hours now.
Emrys was probably the most experienced, and his insight was valuable, but Layla agreed that depending on how the show went, they could skip a few songs if they were short on time. And Levi had a point, while she hadn’t met the owner of the Pub herself, she had heard positive things from their manager. ”I agree with Levi, don’t want to be playing through the countdown.” They were there to work, but she hoped they could finish with some time to spare to enjoy themselves. ”We should play a couple of the new songs, maybe a cover for fun?” It was a party which was a bit of a different vibe than a concert itself would have been, but whatever the band wanted. Layla walked over to the other guitar stand and picked up a slightly smaller black guitar. They kept them around with different tunings—depending on what they were playing. The guitar strap was a checked black and white pattern, and she pulled it over her head and made sure the length was adjusted already.

▲ Well, almost all of his new bandmates were normal. He was weirdly used to vampires by now, being the only human in the previous one, and it seemed like Emrys followed suite in terms of lifestyle choices that his former band members did. Not that it was a problem or anything, but simply fascinating how younger vampires trended towards the same sorts of things. The only difference was that McCloud definitely drank more then all of Bête Noire combined. And other, more illegal things too. Lance didn’t know if he was initiated yet to be privy to those sorts of details, but they had welcomed him nonetheless. Apparently it was difficult to find competent bassists in the magical music scene, which seemed strange. He wasn’t complaining since he could easily find work because of it. All three of the others seemed to agree in terms of set list length, with a few stipulations like the countdown. He knew the songs no problem – they weren’t exactly bass heavy and he had figured out how to keep a line going even if he got lost. The average listener wasn’t really paying attention to what he was doing anyways. In this band, all eyes were on Emrys. That took the pressure off immensely. “I’d be down for a cover,” he spoke up. “Maybe after the countdown? That way the whole crowd is paying attention?” He had never played a New Year’s party before, so he would ultimately leave it up to the professionals to decide. That seemed like the most opportune moment to him though, and knew that he’d be paying attention to the band right after the ball dropped. @emrys @levi @layla ● 277 ● Super Trouper by ABBA MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Emrys didn't mind the play full jabs, he was who he was, and the other band mates knew that quite well. Levi mentioned how willing companions and meals would never be bad. The vampire gave a fanged smile, winking at Levi "I'm more than willing to share, all you have to do is ask." He suggested, licking his lips as he looked the werewolf over. The man was well built, and Emrys would never pass at a chance to offer.
Emrys explained how things would work during the show, and Levi added ending with something big. "You should always leave them wanting more." True, he meant the audience on stage, but that philosophy could be held true in many of his activities with another. Then Levi mentioned ending on time, along with drinks and Emrys saw the opportunity. "You meeting up with someone after Levi?" His smile widened as he winked, "Care to share?" It seemed as though Layla agreed, and Emrys was with them as well, he quite enjoy the idea of spending some quality time with an undetermined person. He would find someone at the event. He was sure there were a number of people there that would enjoy ringing in the new year personally with Emrys. "We'll be sure to be done before then." He stated, softly as he thought of his plan.
Layla mentioned some of their new songs, and the vampire nodded. It was always good to through out some new songs along with familiar old ones. The idea of a cover did seem to be a popular one, Emrys didn't deal much with those, but wasn't opposed to one. Lance then mentioned doing a covere after the count down and Emrys shook his head. "Not the best idea. Levi wont be able to stand, and well..." He shrugged. "I'll be preoccupied, and would prefer not to be found." He winked at Layla, always a good option.
And with that, practice started and music filled the practice room. Running through each song in order as they had previously decided on.
