Eeva knew, while much must be myth, the druids hadn't been completely wrong about this place. The rune was proof enough. THere was a druid connection. Maybe that was why this place made her feel so uneasy. Because in the stories, her people had locked it away. Maybe her druid blood could feel that this place was wrong. But it was just a theory. So far, she hadn't seen any other druids on the island so she couldn't confirm how they were feeling about it. If they felt similar she'd pursue that train of thought. For now, the only one she was sure about was Rhys. THat because the Wyrdness (in their legends) had created werewolves, he probably felt familiar with the place purely because it wasn't so foreign to him. She leaned back on the sand until her head rested on her backpack like a pillow. She stared up at the stars, her arms clasped lightly across her chest and legs stretched out. At least the stars were the same here. She would have thought the sky be similar to Hy-Brasil, but no. It was surprisingly normal. "That would be my guess," she agreed when he spoke of the Wyrdness' intent. That made the most sense to her. The magic wasn't bad, the wielder of it was. But floating and hearing thoughts of animals... Wasn't... bad? "But I don't know anymore. If the Wyrdness is evil, why such... petty changes?" Not that seh was trying to make the changes sound less then they were. But... well floating? What was the point of that change?
Surprisingly laying back helped her head a bit. The constant pounding subsiding just a touch. At least until Ilija spoke. She hadn't even noticed his presence before now. He'd wandered off after... Well, after what had happened in the mist. But he must have come back while she and Rhys were talking. She closed her eyes, smiling just a little as Ilija commented on the floating. "Like I told him. It's karma." Why did Ilija's presence... stir up so many feelings? It made her head pound harder. She didn't open her eyes but she unclasped her hands to rub the sides of her temple, to try and ease the pounding in her head. It didn't stop.

See the animal in his cage that you built Are you sure what side you're on? January 5, 2026 @eeva , @ilija Rhys hadn't noticed Illija come and join them. They'd been immersed in discussing the Druid story and how it may connect to this place. But then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw the familiar red hair. It had been sort of by chance that he'd bumped into them. Eeva was part of Heliopath, but Ilija was not, but they had become acquainted recently. The entire situation was still strange to Rhys, Eeva was the spitting image of Hannah, and though he'd gotten somewhat accustomed to it by now, Rhys found himself almost calling her 'Hannah' instead of 'Eeva' sometimes. But here they were, and even Ilija seemed alright with it. Maybe the time that had passed had helped? It wasn't for him to assume anything, though he wondered if his family knew about Eeva. What would Vasilia say about it all, he wondered? Likely something positive and supportive, he figured. Rhys looked at his friend and then looked down. He'd been floating for over twenty-four hours now, so how he'd failed to notice was a bit beyond him. "Unfortunately." He mumbled but then looked back at Ilija with a slightly suspicious and confused look, "Are you alright? I've been like this for over a day...." Maybe he was tired, Rhys himself was exhausted and would have loved nothing more than to go home. Still, he brought up the cake incident, and after Eeva had as well. He smiled and nodded at the memory, but there was still had not been a resolution on how Eeva knew about it. But before Rhys could bring it up again, Eeva spoke, and he paused. "Karma?" Rhys wondered, what did she remember exactly, and how? "Hey Ilija, did you tell Eeva about the cake incident?"

Ilija had to admit he'd been lost in his own mind ever since the incident in the fog with Eeva. It had affected him so much more than he felt it should have. After all these years he found that he should have been able to handle it better but the moment she'd screamed he'd all but broken. The pain had been so intense, almost as bad as it had been the day that Hannah had died. It had shocked him and he felt shaken. He had rushed over to her, feeling as though the world got slower around him, as if his panic had sent him spiralling out of time completely. It had been a very strange experience and he still couldn't figure out how he'd rushed over to Eeva as fast as he had to check in on her. Adrenaline perhaps? Fear of losing her? It had definitively been on his mind. He was pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to handle seeing her dead. He'd never seen Hannah dead because there had been nothing left to see. He felt that feeling creeping up his spine that something was wrong. Rhys mentioned he'd been like that for over a day and Ilija blinked slightly. He hadn't noticed? Rhys was on the money with asking if he was okay, clearly so. Ilija shrugged, his face twisting in discomfort. "I've been distracted." He admitted, the frown not leaving his face. "It's like my senses have been scrambled. All my emotions feel like they've sort of.. multiplied? It's kind of intense." He admitted, shooting Rhys a short meaningful glance that he hoped his friend would realise meant it was related to Eeva. Well, her and Hannah. The pain was back fresh, as if somebody had been plucking at old wounds, but it was hard to say that out loud. Then the cake incident popped forward as Rhys asked him if he'd told Eeva. He'd noticed her remark on karma and while he'd chuckled briefly in agreement he figured that Rhys might have told her about it while he was gone. He frowned again, this time in confusion rather than internal pain. "No, didn't you?" He looked at Eeva in confusion for a moment. "How did you know about the cake incident? I forgot about it until just now, to be honest." He admitted, feeling his heart knot in his chest, as if in anticipation of her answer. As if he didn't think he'd like what she'd say. He could feel it in his blood, he wanted to reach out and hold her, hug her even. She looked like she was getting a headache or something and he wanted to help her feel better. Yet he needed to be respectful and keep his distance because she wasn't Hannah. He felt that stab of pain that should have been small, but it wasn't. He pulled a face for a moment, absently rubbing his chest for a moment before settling down again. This was a very strange experience and he did not like it one bit so far. rhys alexander greyback and @eeva

The boys seemed to be having their own conversation, which was a relief. Her head was hurting constantly. She sat up a little, opening her eyes as she pulled her backpack from under her head and shoved a head inside. Searching for something for. Finally she fished out what she was looking for. She pushed the backpack back under her head and leaned against it again. In her head was a palm sized wooden, ocarina. Druids did enjoy their music after all. Plus, she enjoyed music in general. Camp fires was always the best place for music anyway. Clearly, her mind had shifted far away from the conversation that they'd been having. That was Eeva for you. Her attention only remained on one thing for so long, before completely changing directions. Plus, maybe music would help this pounding headache.
She raised it to her lips, very lightly blowing into it. Softly, the sound barely above a whisper. The boys were still talking after all. She didn't want to disturb them. She played a few notes thoughtlessly. Not playing anything in particular yet as she tried to decide what she wanted to play. She stopped though when she felt eyes on her, and she looked up to meet Ilija's gaze. He, like Rhys, was now asking why she knew about the cake incident. She lowered the instrument from her lips to respond, to give him the same answer she'd given Rhys. That somehow she must have gotten a few of his memories in that fog, when he mentioned something that made her pause. He'd forgotten about it until just now.
If he'd forgotten about it... how did she know about it then..? She stared at him. The pounding in her head growing. Would she have a memory of his that even he hadn't recalled until now? But again, the theory of her having some of his memories was still that. A theory. There was nothing yet to prove it. Plus, if it was his... Why did looking at him made her head hurt? She barely knew this man, and yet... She felt like she'd known him forever. And there were so many other emotions and feelings mixed in.... Those definitely weren't hers. "I don't know," she answered honestly. Though she was still playing down she shrugged. "Just popped into my head when I saw him floating." Though there were other... memories floating around her head. She wasn't about to talk about those though. Some painful (excruciatingly painful), and others happy... But she knew they weren't hers. If they weren't Ilija's though... Whose were they?

See the animal in his cage that you built Are you sure what side you're on? January 5, 2026 @eeva , @ilija Ilija admitted he felt unfocused and a bit scattered, though he supposed that seemed to be a common theme, the more people he spoke to. Everyone was experiencing the magic here differently. Rhys himself was floating, so more of a physical effect while the rest varied. Rhys nodded with a momentary weak grin. He supposed he couldn't blame him. When Rhys had run into Eeva a few months before this, he had felt as though he'd received the shock of his life. He couldn't imagine what it would have been like for Ilija to see the face of Hannah after so many years and after what happened. That was surely enough to leave someone a bit dazed for some time. The only way Rhys had tried to relate and wrap his mind around the situation was to think about what if a woman, who was the spitting image of his mother, had walked into the same pub he was in and spoken to him as if he was a stranger. He only had his memories from his nightmares and a picture of her he had in his wallet to remember her by, but the mere thought left him with goosebumps. His friend's face was as confused as his own. He had assumed that he had told Eeva about that incident regarding his current 'floating.' Rhys looked at Ilija and then Eeva and then back to Ilija, his face with an expression of confusion. "No, I figured you had told her since I started 'floating'. " Rhys was unsure of what to think of the situation, and Ilija asked Eeva the same question he had previously. Eeva admitted she had no idea how she had this memory in her mind, and he wasn't sure what to think about it all. He tried to recall the memory in his own mind, though he knew pieces were missing after all these years. "What year was that....sixth?" It might have been seventh, but he couldn't remember exactly. Rhys could usually tell the years apart, but whether or not he was dating Deva, but otherwise, they hadn't been all that different. Rhys stared at the red sand as he concentrated on that memory. "You were there...Renfri yelled at me and...." Rhys paused. "...Hannah." The four of them had been there. He recalled Renfri scolding him, but Nell hadn't been around to also disapprove. Rhys paused again and looked at Eeva, lying down, presumably exhausted as the rest were by this point. The island seemed to be beating her down more than the others, however. "Eeva, what else do you remember?" There were other details that Rhys remembered, but he hadn't spoken aloud yet.

Ilija couldn't manage to wrap his mind around everything. It was causing him a headache and heartache all over again. The pain was so intense, like knives lacerating his heart like he'd lost Hannah only yesterday. Now Eeva was bringing up memories he'd made with Rhys and Hannah like she'd been there, which was disturbing without her looking like the splitting image of Hannah. It messed with his mind and gave him a sinking feeling. Yet he also remembered loving Hannah and how much he'd wanted to be with her. In those memories he glimpsed the person he'd loved and how likely she'd have been to bring up the same memories. The same memories with a huge grin, teasing Rhys endlessly as he himself would have wrapped his arms around her, as if they were sitting outside a tomb after a day of hard work. It wasn't their life now it seemed, yet everything seemed to behave that way. It felt like he was going mad and he remembered the past wrong. He'd have been convinced his mind was failing him if Rhys and Eeva both hadn't been as confused about her memories as he was. Rhys pointed out the obvious. It had been the two of them with Renfri and Hannah. It was like hearing her name tore him apart from the inside and he could see the memories flashing right before his eyes for a moment before they faded. He inhaled sharply for a moment as a stab of pain shot through the leg that was not for a moment. It was just a moment in which he recovered himself, the way he was used to doing by now. When he got his head around everything seemed to be moving sluggishly, including the flames of the little campfire they had. He hesitantly reached out, his fingers brushing the flames a brief moment. It was still as hot as it was supposed to be. Whatever was happening didn't seem to change the world, merely his perception of it. Everything seemed off. He briefly glanced at Eeva, but then grabbed a drink and popped the cap off. It seemed like this was a drinks kind of night. After taking a drink time seemed to recover, for which he was grateful. It should have been seconds, but he'd experienced it as almost half a minute or so. Just then Rhys asked if Eeva remembered anything else. Ilija couldn't help but flinch slightly. "Rhys...." He said a bit pained. "This brings back a lot of painful memories." He absently scratched at the leg that was no more and pulled a face. "Can we keep this brief?" It was probably too important to ignore, even if he wished they could. It could give them a clue as to what was happening to them. What kind of curse they might have stumbled on while wondering the island. Ilija could remember nothing but the fog from the moment he noticed things being off about himself, but he wasn't too sure about the others. Perhaps it had been different for them? He glanced at Eeva, wondering what she remembered yet at the same time terrified to find out. He took a deep breath, almost as if to brace himself for impact. "Eeva... do you remember anything about Madagascar?" Maybe he'd forgotten that he'd told her things about school. They were fond memories and he liked dragging them up for old times sake every once in a while. Madagascar was very different. He didn't really talk about it at all, mostly because things had gone sour there so soon after arriving. At first getting scared because neither he nor Hannah had been ready to be parents. Then accepting it and looking forward to becoming parents only to lose Floyd before he'd taken his first breath. A month of grief before.... well the worst part of it. Not that she would know about any of it. He and Hannah had very little contact with anybody after they'd lost Floyd, outside of the people in the village. He never really spoke of it, so most memories of Madagascar had been just him. He wasn't exactly the sharing type after his trauma. rhys alexander greyback and @eeva

Hannah.
Rhys said the name, not to her, but to Ilija but hearing it was like a huge crack in the dam. As if her mind had been trying to control and make sense of all the new memories by condensing them all in one place. Keeping them together, but separate so only small bits and pieces were leaking through. But that name. That name was the tipping point. Because now everything started to make sense.
Eeva didn't dare look at either of them. She'd set her small instrument down and stared up at the night sky. Trying to process the flood of memories that were starting to make more and more sense... And feeling sicker and sicker. While Eeva had been unnaturally pale this entire time on the island what little that remained of her complexion had drained. Her expression, usually one of mild aloofness or carefreeness, was growing more and more worried. No, there was no way. No way.. And yet... These memories weren't hers. But she had a growing suspicion she knew who's they were. People calling the owner of the memories "Hannah".
She sat up slowly, still not looking at them, but instead staring at the fire. Trying to think of something, anything, to explain this away. That this could not be what she thought. And yet? When they both said her name, HER name, it was like a bucket of ice water dumped over her head. Bringing her back to reality and out of her own head. But their words didn't help. Rhys asked what else she remembered and she didn't even know where to begin with that. She opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. After a moment she closed her mouth, her eyebrows furrowing together as she herself looked just as, if not more, confused then the boys. It was Ilija's words that solidified everything though.
"Do you remember anything about Madagascar?"
Eeva's heart beat painfully in her chest. She stared, eyes wide at Ilija. Madagascar. A place she knew she'd never been. And yet, the name invoked memories. Memories of a little village. Curse. A cottage. Ilija. Finally some color returned to her complexion. Her face flushing a brilliant shade of red. Memories of Ilija in.... very intimate ways. As the memories kept coming she didn't know how to feel. No doubt it would be confusing to watch. Her expression going from confusion, to shock, back to confusion, to embarrassment, to pain, to shock, more pain, and then terrified realization. She didn't know how to process this all.
"Oh... god..."
Eeva felt like she couldn't breath. She wasn't one to panic or be anxious but she could feel both emotions building. Fast. Immediately she got to her feet. "Excuse me..." She said very quickly, and she stepped away from the campfire and the two men. She made her way to the water and crouch down when she was ankle deep, cupped her shaky hands together to scoop up some water, and splashed her face. It didn't help much, but she doubted anything would. Because somehow she had Hannah's memories... ALL of her memories.

see the animal in his cage that you built are you sure what side you're on? January 5, 2026 @eeva , @ilija Rhys knew the second he had uttered her name that he shouldn’t have. Hannah had been his friend as well, and although he’d only found out she was gone a few months before this, it was still an odd feeling. Maybe it would have been worse if he’d known sooner before he had grown accustomed to them not being around. Yet, it would always pain him, though never on the level it would Ilija when it came to his childhood friends. Rhys couldn’t imagine that having someone you were connected with—in heart and soul and then in a split second, they were just….gone. The idea made him uncomfortable, though again, he could only imagine the pain and scars for his longtime friend. ”Sorry…” He muttered as if it could take back his spoken words. Rhys stuck with his thoughts for the moment, probably better to not speak since all he could think about were memories of those final years at school. He absent-mindedly stared at the red sand beneath him as he retreated into his thoughts.
She didn’t answer when he had asked if she had remembered anything, and he wasn’t too disappointed as it had been a silly idea. There was no way that Eeva had other memories. This had to be some kind of fluke, right? Some after effect of proximity and the strange magic that existed on this island. Though of proximity was a factor….well, Rhys resisted the temptation to separate himself from the group. He didn’t need people inheriting bits of his own memories. But then Ilija spoke up, asking if she remembered Madagascar, and Rhys watched curiously for her response—this wasn’t something that he knew about. Even though it was later now and their main light was the fire, Rhys could see the even paler complexion on Eeva, and he wondered if she might faint. She looked like he did on his worst full moons, which were always hard to heal from.
Rhys furrowed his brow. Partly due to curiosity but also of concern, she had gone from ashen to full color back to her face, but the look in her eyes was different. ”…Eeva?” Rhys spoke, he would have asked if she was okay, but it was apparent that she wasn’t. Suddenly, however, she was on her feet and quickly moved to the water. Rhys wasn’t sure if he should follow, and he looked back at Ilija but then back to where Eeva was in the shallow water. Instinctively he stood up, glancing around to double-check that there were no strange island creatures on the crimson beach—there weren’t, and he took a few steps toward where she had gone. ”Eeva, are you alright?” She seemed more ill than before, which only concerned him about the type of magic they were dealing with here. Again Rhys looked back at his friend, unsure of what to do in this moment.

Ilija didn't know quite what he should have expected when asking that question. He had noticed that Eeva seemed to grow paler every passing moment and he was deeply concerned about her. It didn't look very well. He was thrown off a little when after going even more pale her face went a deep red as her cheeks flushed. His face pulled a little bit of an 'o' as he realised it was very much possible that she was remembering something very personal. If she was remembering anything that he knew (which was his best guess so far since they'd been in the fog together) then it was possible she remembered compromising moments. Back when he'd still had all his limbs. He almost smiled but something stopped him and when he saw the pain on her face his sense of dread grew stronger. Her face looked like the mirror image of Hannah after they'd lost Floyd. He felt the dread build as he watched her face morph into shock and then the anticipated but so painful next part. Pain. He wanted to turn away but he couldn't. She left and he briefly closed his eyes for a moment as he struggled to keep breathing through the pain in his chest. He'd been wrong, hadn't he? It wasn't his memories, but hers. Somehow the changes latched on to his memories of Hannah and put them inside her head. Or worse, it put Hannah's memories inside her head, as if it was confused about who she was as much as the rest of the world seemed to be. As if Hannah and Eeva were never have supposed to be two different people but one and the same and the universe was twisted itself into oblivion trying to correct that. When he looked up he noticed that Rhys looked between him and Eeva, confused and unsure. He stood up, the leg that was not aching beyond compare in that moment as he walked over to Rhys and put a hand on his shoulder, the sadness in his eyes deep and profound. "I think she either has my memories of Hannah, or worse...." He left it hanging as he looked over at her. Rhys would understand. "If being around me hurts her too much, will you look after her?" He asked his friend in a quiet tone. There was nobody he trusted more than Rhys in this moment. "If she remembers how Hannah died...." He found himself frowning. "I never told you but it was a very bad explosion. There wasn't anything left to bury." He paused to take a deep breath, the pain soaring as his eyes filled with tears again. "If she remembers that pain I don't know what to do. It terrifies me." Yet with those words he quietly walked up to Eeva, sitting down beside her. He reached out and very softly and gently touched her shoulder. "Eeva? Is there anything I can do to help ease the pain?" He asked it in a very soft tone of voice, barely above a whisper. "I'll do anything you ask, literally." While he didn't say it, his words heavily implied it included leaving her alone if that was what she wanted. He knew it would hurt but it wasn't his nature to go against the wishes or autonomy of people when they made it clear what they wanted. "If you'd rather talk to Rhys he's around as well, just let us know what we can do to help." She clearly wasn't alright, how could she be? It was a matter of seeing what they could do for her now and he hoped Eeva would allow him and Rhys to help her. rhys alexander greyback @eeva

It shouldn't be possible. To have the memories of a dead person. As if they were her own. Before it had jsut been a confusing trickle of memories. But now it was all there. The doors thrown wide open and everything thrown at her at once. Her head hurt. The pounding like a hammer. There were now two lives in her head. Her own, and the ghost of Hannah. She remembered everything as if it was her own memories. But they weren't. And that made it even more goddamn confusion. Eeva's relationship with Ilija and Rhys was still quite... superficial. They knew only bits and pieces about each other. Still getting to know who they were. But suddenly she knew so much more. She knew both of them. Because of Hannah. Hell, she knew some very, very, personal things about Ilija now. She'd known Hannah was dead, but now she knew everything they had gone through. Ilija hadn't mentioned Floyd to her. And yet she knew. She knew who Floyd was. She remembered Hannah carrying him, giving birth, the pain of losing him. She remembered private moments between her and Ilija. She remembered.... intimate moments.
She reached her hands back into the water, though by this point they were shaking too much to cup any water, so she just left them there. The waves moving between her fingers. Eeva started at them, trying to focus on that. On something physical and not in her head. But it was damn near impossible. Because she had a horrible, gut wrenching realization. It was at that moment Ilija reached her. She felt his hand on her shoulder first, though didn't seem to register the contact until he spoke. Eeva jumped just a little, her wonders finally dragging her away from the memories. Her head turned and she looked at him. The only saving grace she had in this moment was that Ilija was older. He had more tattoos. While she knew it was him in the memories he didn't look exactly the same. She swallowed hard, as if trying to swallow all these new memories.
"In the forest. When the fog came...." she started, trying to explain. He'd known the moment. When the fog had surrounded them. When she'd screamed and collapsed for a moment. She hadn't told him why she'd screamed, just that it had hurt. A lot. She'd held a lot of it back though. "It didn't just hurt. I felt...." Her throat tightened, and she swallowed. Even the memory of what she'd felt was.... excruciating. "I felt her last memory." The first memory she'd felt was Hannah's last. She didn't need to tell him what Hannah's last memory was though. He had been there. He knew exactly what had happened to Hannah. She'd felt Hannah's death.
Eeva would never say she wasn't a traumatized person, considering what happened to her family. But that memory? Feeling Hannah being ripped apart... It was an inhuman level of pain. How did you ease that kind of pain? How did you cope with that. She turned her head back to the water, her breathing shaky and her heart beating painfully in her chest. She kept her hands submerged in the water, letting the frigid waters numb her fingers. That was something she and Hannah had been different on. Hannah didn't like the cold, where as Eeva did. So letting her fingers go numb in the freezing ocean almost seemed to ground her to herself. To remind her that she was Eeva.

see the animal in his cage that you built are you sure what side you're on? January 5, 2026 @eeva , @ilija Rhys watched Ilija as he walked over to him and continued to look at him after placing a hand on his shoulder. His friend explained to Rhys that Eeva possibly had memories that were not her own, memories of Hannah, and Rhys' eyes grew wide for a moment. That was…well, it would make sense why she recalled a memory from their sixth year, but it also had grave implications as well. They both seemed to look at the red-head simultaneously though Rhys' head quickly looked back when Ilija made a request of him. Without hesitation, he nodded his head. " Yes, of course." His friend was asking a favor of him, and Rhys would gladly help. He chose his close friends carefully because of what loyalty meant to him. And although he couldn't imagine what that pain Ilija spoke of might have been like, he was sure it was unpleasant, to say the least.
Rhys' eyes were watching Ilija closely. The conversation had gone from talking about druid stories and runes to now trying to figure out what the island was doing to each of them. Suddenly his unique floating predicament didn't seem so awful compared to what Eeva might be dealing with at the moment. And the more that Ilija explained to him how Hannah had died, the more his heart sank into his stomach. His jaw clenched a moment. It pained him to hear about how his friend had passed. Hannah had always been kind to him, offering a warm smile and patience to deal with his temperamental nature at that age. She and Renfri had been two peas in a pod, but Renfri had dealt with Rhys' behavior much differently. Rhys always held onto memories like that, the kindness of someone who didn't care who his father was or that he was just angry all the time. A bright and cheerful light gone from the world.
Rhys nodded. He understood more now. At least in his case, his mother had a grave he could visit. What did Ilija have of Hannah? " Let me know what you need." Rhys offered in support, and he watched Illja walk over and speak to Eeva. He didn't move and stayed nearby in case he was needed. Many thoughts ran through his mind, what if someone was affected on this island and had gained his late mother’s memories. He shook his head. He didn’t want his mind to wander such a dark path—not here where it seemed the second you stopped paying attention, something happened. Now more than ever he just wanted to go home, and he’d wished he’d never come here—that none of them had come here, whatever secrets were hidden on this island better have been worth the suffering he was watching unfold in front of him.

While he'd dreaded to hear her words, nothing could have prepared him for the truth of what she was saying. She felt the last memories of her. Of Hannah. He felt his entire body tense, knowing exactly which memory she was referring to. The only thing that seemed to be holding together what little sanity he had left was the fact she looked like she was in a lot of pain and she needed him there. Or maybe he just wanted to believe that himself, because she looked like her. Maybe he needed her more than she needed him, but there was a recognition in her eyes that hadn't been there before. They'd been mostly stranger, and he'd looked at her like he knew her face but not her person. Now it felt like she looked at him and knew who had once had been, but not what had change and who he had become. They were familiar strangers, knowing something, but never enough to say they truly knew each other. He nodded briefly to show her that he understood. He knew that Rhys was still back there and kept an eye on them. It felt natural to him somehow, that they were there together. He couldn't explain it, like the only thing missing was Renfri and things would have a semblence of normal. Yet it would be a lie, since Eeva was not Hannah but merely looked like her. He gritted his teeth for a moment. He allowed his golden leg to settle into the frigid water, knowing the cold could not properly hurt it due to the various enchantments. "After she passed..." He started, his voice heavy as he motioned for Rhys to approach if he wanted. If he was going to share, Rhys also had a right to hear and to know things like this. He'd been Hannah's friend too after all. "After she died, I felt completely lost for a while. I kept trying to imagine how she must have felt, but the pain I carried was different and I felt it couldn't be as bad as what she'd been through. I felt guilty, so I tried and tried again to envision it, as if feeling that might bring her back somehow. I let the pain consume me and eat away everything I had been." He sighed regretfully for a moment, shooting Rhys an apologetic look. He should have told his friend what happened much faster. "By the time I finally came to terms with the grief, the pain and the guilt, I didn't recognise myself in the mirror. I was thin with dark circles under my eyes and I missed a leg. My torso covered in scars? In some way I felt it was right, since I didn't feel like the same person. I got tattoos to remember, trying to hold on to everything that I hadn't destroyed yet in my quest to erase a pain I'd never allowed myself to feel. I felt the things that separated me from the boy I had been were good, but along the way I also allowed myself to be separated from the people I cared most about. The people I should have allowed to help me through." He looked her in the eyes, a small smile on his face. "That's why I saw you as Eeva that very first time we met. Because I saw a girl smiling in the snow, happy to be there. I saw what made you different more than what made you the same. I can imagine it hurts, but right now it might be better to remember the things we don't know. We'll figure out how this happened and how to fix it later, but don't lose yourself along the way like I did. It's not worth it." And with those last words he looked at his old friend, an apology in his eyes for always being too late in sharing. For not telling sooner, and not opening up. It could have save so many people pain, he'd just been too foolish to realise that. @eeva rhys alexander greyback
