New Years Eve was always a fun time for Malakai. From running around the yard at his parents house with Rai, to chasing his siblings to get them to settle down for bed, to his current status as a Quidditch player, always bar hopping with a mate or two from bar to bar. This year though he’d heard about the big party at the Violet Hound, which was a magical pub. He’d be able to discuss Quidditch in the open if he went to a magical pub instead of hiding it with innuendos about Muggle football and international league they’d never heard of. So that settled it. He took Chewy on a long run to tire the Newfoundland out, fed him cut up steak with his kibble, then showered and dressed for a night out on the town. Kai arrived around eleven at night to the Violet Hound, and was pleased to see a decent sized crowd had turned out. Gently pushing his way to the bar, he ordered himself a gin and tonic before turning around, gently resting his back against the bar as he scanned the room for people he knew. Or at least, looked like they’d be fun to talk to. open!

All the good girls go to hell 'Cause even God herself has enemies And once the water starts to rise And heaven's out of sight She'll want the devil on her team My Lucifer is lonely New Years' was a time to celebrate the changing of the season, the changes of life. Out with the old and in with the new, right? Well, if that was the case, Nina needed that now. God, did she wish that she could turn back time and change some things, make up for some wrongs that she had done. Maybe her mother would still be alive? Perhaps she and Sam would be happily married with six-hundred cats? She laughed to herself, bringing the drink to her lips. The Violet Hound was having a New Years Party, and it was the place to be. And she was in desperate need of a distraction and tons of drinks. She was on her third Whiskey Sour by the time someone appeared next to her, asking for a gin and tonic before turning to address the crowd. She spun around, doing the same, "See anything interesting?" she questioned, peeking a glance to the side to take in the male next to her. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Malakai heard a voice beside him and turned his head to view the woman beside him. A smile spread across his face. “Perhaps,” he said, turning his head back to the crowd. She was quite pretty, maybe a few years younger than him, but nothing crazy. Her long hair was dyed partially pink, which he found he liked, and she also clearly liked whiskey. “Good choice in drink there. I figured I’d start out light then work my way up to the whiskey,” he commented, taking a sip of his own drink. “So, what’s your name?” he asked, not proffering his own first. He had no idea if she was a Quidditch fan or not, so he may not even need to make an introduction. He almost hoped though that she didn’t recognize him from Quidditch. It was nice sometimes to chat to someone who was just interested in talking to him as a person, not a fan talking to a pro athlete. @nina

All the good girls go to hell 'Cause even God herself has enemies And once the water starts to rise And heaven's out of sight She'll want the devil on her team My Lucifer is lonely After what she had been through since the explosion at the Quidditch Pitch, she needed a drink. Nina's life had been turned upside down, thrown into the fire, and left to burn. She was up the creek without a paddle, and she didn't know what to do. She couldn't voice her concerns with anyone, let alone Ondina, in fear of it getting back to another Purifier. While the two were friends, she wasn't sure how much she trusted the woman anymore. They had been close in high school, but they grew apart when she started to date Sam, and then when they broke up, they had grown closer. They had been close ever since, but once Azkaban was broken into, and the prisoners escaped, and then her mom's death...she wasn't sure anymore. She was conflicted about where her loyalties lied, and she couldn't trust herself, let alone someone else. That was what the whiskey was for, to drown her thoughts and sorrows with each swig. And there she went, little Athena struck up a conversation with a random stranger...and he took to it. She let out a little laugh, "I'm ready to forget this shitty year now, not later...and whiskey will make sure that happens," she said truthfully. 'So, what's your name?' Was he really interested? She snorted, placing her glass down and holding out her hand, "Athena Bulstrode...though, my friends call me Nina. And...you are?" she questioned, not realizing she was practically talking to a celebrity. Nina didn't follow sports, let alone Quidditch, but her mother had loved it. She was supposed to attend with her mother that day, but something had come up. She wondered would she had died if she had gone? MADE BY VEL OF GS

Malakai was a little surprised she didn’t know who he was, but he shook it off quickly. Sometimes his ego made him a little bigheaded, but he didn’t think he was incredibly pompous. Okay, maybe sometimes, but he was aware of it at least! “Malakai Jones, but you can call me Kai,” he told her, extending a hand for her to shake. “Yeah it’s been….a year for the books,” he admitted, sipping his drink. He had been there for the Quidditch match explosions; he still had nightmares about it, even months later. “I’m guessing you were at the match this summer as well,” Kai stated. “I can see the haunted look in your eyes,” he admitted, more serious. He knew the look all too well, as he’d seen it staring back at him in the mirror. “I guess we can only hope that next year will be better then,” he told her, ordering another round of drinks with a nod to the bartender. @nina
