Rhys’ eyes looked up from the surface of the old barn, and they felt heavy. He’d lost track of how much whiskey had had drank, but he’d also lost track even before arriving. Bartenders would cut him off, so he tended to drink a bit before even arriving. The only reason to go to a pub was so he didn’t clean out his own stock of alcohol at home. Then again, he had plenty with everything Maria couldn’t drink now due to her pregnancy. And by how light his head was feeling, he would feel this tomorrow certainly. ”Civil…” Rhys almost wanted to laugh. There wasn’t anything civil with Maria. It was just trying not to be set on fire.

Does…does your son’s mother have an affinity for fire magic?” Rhys wondered. Out of all the women he’d been with—and there had been many it had to be one that could burn him to a crisp to end up pregnant. ”I dated a nice girl once…” Rhys reminisced while his head felt foggy. ”She didn’t care who I was…but…it didn’t work.” Or rather, Rhys couldn’t get with the program. ”I guess I dated a lot of girls though…” Since his glass of whiskey was empty, Rhys pushed it forward and drank some of the water placed before him. But it wasn’t satisfying at all, and he frowned as he placed the glass back down. Deva was never far from the forefront of his mind, especially lately, as he thought through his current circumstances.

The bartender explained, happily, about his son and daughter, and Rhys wondered what that was like. Not the part about having two children but being so content with it. Rhys would do everything in his power to be there for his future child, but he’d be lying if he didn’t admit that he felt more fear than happiness. ”Sounds complicated.” Would Maria ever do that? Run off and leave him a single dad? She was willing to be a single mom and never tell him, so doubtful. ”Well, sounds like you have it all figured out.” Rhys offered a small, drunk, half-grin. He wasn’t envious of the bartender, but Rhys didn’t want people to be miserable. That was how he felt most of the time, and it wasn’t fun. Plus, that little boy and girl had a present father, more than Rhys ever had. He glanced over at someone loudly leaving the pub, and he took a moment to notice how it was far emptier than when he had arrived before looking back. ”Honestly…I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner.” It wasn’t anything he’d ever admit to his friends considering their opinions of his life, but the universe had decided that now was the time.

AS THE MALE REPEATED ARES' point about being civil with the mother of his child, Ares too felt a smile widen on his lips, knowing that his relationship with Sarah was far from civil. He would down-right murder her if the opportunity ever arose. And Ares knew that for a fact. As Ares quickly looked across the bar, he began wondering about his answer for Rhys.

"I doubt it. She was just..Fucking insane anyway. Guessing...The mother of your child loves burning your ass or something?" Ares joked, his lips forming a wider smile. As Rhys drank the water, Ares flicked his fingers up, using his non-verbal magic to refill the glass. "No pressure on the water-drinking by the way. Just want you to remember going home at least." He smiled.

"Definitely..Complicated but worth it." He agreed, deciding to wipe down parts of the bar as more patrons began to leave for the night. Overhearing Rhys' words, Ares' brow perked up a little. "Have what happen sooner? Have an unexpected kid?.."

It seemed that the bartender also had a difficult person to deal with in his life. Maria could be incredibly difficult and stubborn, and there was only so much he could do to push those boundaries before he ended up like that couch she had scorched not that long ago. Rhys was almost certain that she would never intentionally maim him but making him suffer in other ways was not out of the question. Maria had lost her parents when she was young. There was no way she would leave their child to the same fate. Still, he was curious about this insane woman with whom the bartender shared a child. It made Rhys feel a little less alone about being in a weird situation.

”She’s a v-veela. Or half or something.” His foggy brain couldn’t remember entirely. ”So she does the fire thing.” Which actually wasn’t entirely common for part-veelas, or so he had been told. His glass was refilled with water, and he was still a little sad it wasn’t whiskey. The bartender wasn’t going to serve him any more alcohol, which was just as well since he had plenty at home. The water would let him get home in one piece. ”Mmhmm.” Rhys merely grunted a response. He wasn’t the idiot his friends thought he was. Traveling for work and sleeping around—he’d protected himself, but it just took one time getting carried away, and here he was.

Rhys desperately did not want to be Fenrir in that regard. He drank more water till the glass was empty again as he contemplated that thought. But he definitely wanted more whiskey, which meant it was time to go home. Carefully, or as best as he could manage, he moved from the stool to stand. His hands gripped the bar for a moment while he focused on his balance. And when Rhys felt sure he wouldn’t fall over, he stuck his hand into his pocket, pulled out coins of various sizes, and placed them on the bar with a few extra. ”Thanks for the drink.” Rhys spoke, though the conversation was nice too, he supposed. There weren’t many people he could talk to these days about this. But, even inebriated he wasn’t good with words and only offered a slight nod before leaving.
