The nerve-wracking fear that her silence meant she wasn’t paying attention or thinking about a discussion desperately tried to take hold even though she knew that Eli didn’t view it that way. If he did, he wouldn’t have insisted for their friendship to continue the way it had. There were very few people that were fine with her feeble utterances every now and again, and she knew that others simply grew tired. He hadn’t yet, and his constant enthusiasm matched, and sometimes superseded, that of even Lily’s. While there was spontaneity here, there was also gentleness. Lily was just chaos. Cordelia needed both, as long as her friends were willing to wait on her to say what she needed to say. The relative peace that came with simply listening to Eli talk and ramble off whenever she gave a short response was amazing. Like how he was now taking her potential move and running with it.
Staring at him as he raised their hands in the air and started to talk about throwing a party and then possibly staying over, her brain really only processed the first part. “If the roommates don’t m-mind,” she answered quietly. Going in and disturbing whomever her new flat mates might be would be a great introduction. Especially when she was nothing like that to begin with. And who would she even invite to a party aside from Eli? Lily was repeating seventh year right now so she was out of the running. “C-Can a party only have two people?” she asked him, unsure if that was even possible. Waiting until the following summer for one of their birthdays made more sense to her. Then they could have a reason, versus simply throwing something for the sake of moving into a new apartment.
