November 2025 Haru was fairly new to London, only moving there mid 2025. There were a lot of places she had yet to explore. She had a tight schedule with regular work hours, and streaming on a daily basis. Being from New York, she knew a thing or two about pizza, and she had heard from many sources, from followers, and co-workers, that she just had to try this place. They claimed that they had the best pizza around.
After work, she had made her way to the small hole in the wall pizzeria, ordering one of their slices, one that reminded her of home, it had been named "the New York Slice". It didn't take long for the large slice to be handed over to the girl with colorful hair. She sat down, posing for a selfie with the pizza, hiding part of her face. She finally took a bite. Swallowing her she shook her head. "Not New York Pizza." She sighed to herself as she wrote out her Instagram post, masterfully typing on her touch screen as she looked around at fellow patrons..

▲ Rumor had it that with the start of the New Year, she was going to be taken off of her desk duty and border patrol. While that was still two months away (and change!), Finn had been ecstatic since she caught wind of it earlier in the day. Border patrol wasn’t as terrible as it could be, but she now understood why Claire Slater detested it so much. Every day as virtually the same, and neither of them had seen any action along the border since they started in June. Even when the snafu with the druid island of Hy-Brasil happened, she hadn’t been allowed to travel there. It was quite the opposite actually: a warning that if she deviated from her current assignment, it wouldn’t be good for her. Finn always got a laugh out of those warnings, because it wasn’t like threatening her job actually meant anything to her. They seemed to have forgotten that she was the one that left first and came back only when they begged her to, not the other way around. Losing her career as an auror meant almost nothing to her and it would be a loss to the international group she was helping. But to celebrate the potential end to her timeout, Finn decided she would go get pizza for dinner. After briefly stopping home to take the dog out, she hurried over to the place that was considered one of the better pizza joints in London. Now, it was nothing like home. In the restaurants defense, they never claimed to be like New York pizza; they just had a slice that was named after it and sort of in the same style she was so familiar with. Everyone sort of forced that on them through internet reviews and the likes. So Finn understood the dilemma that they were dealing with. It was still better than one of the chain pizza places, or the ones that liked to dunk their slices in buckets of grease and claim it was New York-style. Those ones she could never forgive. Ordering a couple slices, she happily headed towards an empty table. On her way, she heard another patron sigh about it not being the right kind, and Finn let out a bubble of a laugh. “Good luck with that. I’ve been looking for two years and this is the best you’ll get in London,” she said as she stopped next to the woman, who definitely looked familiar. “Are you in the…IT department?” Finn added, as she narrowed her eyes. She had taken her work laptop down for a diagnostic check-up a few days earlier, and could have sworn she saw the person sitting in front of her there. @koharu ● 454 ● Song by Artist MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

No matter how many times places claimed to have New York-style pizza, Haru found that she was always disappointed. It was the one food she always made sure to get when visiting her family. She expressed her disappointment, mostly to herself, but a woman that was passing chimed in. The girl looked up, the woman seemed a little familiar. Had she seen her somewhere else? With a laugh Haru shrugged "I have h-half a mind to ask m-my parents to overnight s-some." she stuttered, not as good with face to face communication, as she was face to screen.
It didn't take long for the other woman to ask if Haru was in apart of IT. With that, Haru realized that she recognized the woman from the ministry. There were so many people getting new tech that faces just started to blur after a while. She nodded. "Yea. I-i'm Haru.....well, Koharu." Man that was bad. Why did she have to make things so awkward. "D-do, you w-wanna sit?" From the sound of it, either the woman really liked New York pizza, or she was from the area. The latter was more likely.

▲ Pizza overnighted from New York City? Hell yeah that sounded amazing! Finn could already taste it too. The years of working in the city meant that she knew all of the best places, and that meant more than just the popular ones that all the tourists went to. Her entire work schedule used to be built around specific routes in the city, just so she could find herself at one of her many favorites at lunch time. There was no way her parents would ever know how to get food shipped to her like that, but she definitely still had connections at MACUSA that probably could if she ponied up the month for it. It would be worth it in the end. The grease alone would keep the slices fresh and viable for at least a day or two, depending on if it was no-maj shipped or via owl. The girl, Haru, invited her to sit, and Finn immediately took the seat opposite of her. She couldn’t believe that she remembered that the girl was in the IT department, but then again there weren’t too many of them down there yet. Plus it was her job to remember faces. Names not so much, unless they were on a wanted poster these days. “Finn. You from the city too? I’ve been dying to go back home…but work these days,” she blew out a long breath and shook her head. There had been zero progress on her task of capturing escapees, which either spoke of her own ability or the Ministry’s lack of resources surrounding the whole ordeal. With an international task force, it should have been easier than this, and yet it hadn’t been. She took a bite out of one of her slices, and chewed quickly. It was okay, but not the best either. Still better than some of the places closer to her apartment though. And not by much. “What year did you graduate? I feel like I’m forgetting more and more about school every year, so I’m sorry if we ever bumped into each other there.” Finn ripped another bite out of the doughy crust, and chewed slowly as she listened. @koharu ● 363 ● Death Portrait by Lorna Shore MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Eating this pizza here really made Haru miss home, and the amazing pizza that seemed to be available on every corner. The thought of it made her drool. Not wanting to eat what was in front of her anymore, she shyly welcomed the distraction. She grew up there, taking the subway alone at a young age, she knew where to go for the best slice. She wondered if she would be able to catch one of her parents at a good time, given the time zone differences.
Either way, the woman sat when she was invited. Haru wasn't classified as a social butterfly, by any stretch of the imagination. But the commonality of New York Pizza was intriguing. From her accent, Haru could tell that she wasn't a local, much like her, it seemed as though the woman hailed from America. The woman introduced herself as Finn, and asked if Haru was from the city. The city in which she referred had to be New York. She nodded. "B-born a-and raised in Queens." She smiled. Nodding as the woman mentioned work getting in the way of going home. "I know w-what you m-mean." The IT department of the Ministry was insane lately. Overtime, galore, constant issues and updates. On top of that, the girl was a streamer, her true love and job. She could stream anywhere she had a stable set up.
Not exactly wanting to, Haru took another bite. It was fine, once you got past the disappointment. The woman asked she she graduated, and even talked about their potential for bumping into each other there and Haru shrugged. "Um. I-it was 2018. B-b-but I w-was actually home sc-schooled." She shrugged and smiled shyly. It was one thing she felt like she had missed out on. Making friends her own age who were magical. But Ilvermorney just wasn't for her.

▲ “Oh cool!” Finn exclaimed through her mouthful of pizza. Her own work jurisdiction during her stint in the city had been Upper Manhattan, but that didn’t mean she solely stayed there if worked called her elsewhere. “I used to work in Manhattan. Woolworth Building,” she added as she swallowed her food, half-chewed. Pizza was essentially a liquid for her by now, to the point that she could inhale a pie as easily as she could breathe. “But I grew up Upstate. Sleepy Hollow.” While there were an infinite amount of smaller magical communities inside the greater New York City area, she didn’t actually know of too many from Queens proper. Her hometown had the luck of being popular with no-majs due to the story based on it. Little did they know that there were actual witches and wizards living in the area, something her family only discovered after it came to light that both Nottingham children had magic. She always got a kick out of that. The same could be said about some of her former classmates that grew up in Salem. They all understood what it was like to be from a tourist trap town. Haru responded to the question about school, and Finn nodded her head quickly. That explained it! She had always tried to attach herself to other New Yorkers at school, so she had been momentarily perplexed by not knowing the girl. The only other possibility was that they were far apart age-wise, but Finn didn’t think she was that bad at guessing that sort of thing. “Thank god. I was concerned for a moment there. Sometimes things just go,” she motioned with her hand, away from her head. There had been a few moments of memory lapse since the building collapse, but it hadn’t been for anything important. At least not that she remembered. “So what brought you over here? There aren’t many New Yorkers wandering around at work. Can’t say I blame them for staying home.” @koharu ● 316 ● Deeper Than Shallow by Roo Panes MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Koharu had grown up in New York. True, she lived in Queens, but she was able to navigate the entire city at a young age. Because of this, she knew exactly where the woman was talking about. She nodded. "I kn-know where that is." She smiled, taking another bite of her disappointing pizza. She nodded a little awkward as the woman explained where she grew up. In all honesty, She knew the city and it's borough much better than anywhere else in the state. Though even as a young girl she remembered being stopped by tourists asking how to get to some trap of a location. She was a master of the city. Sometimes it still felt weird to her to get to her place without riding an elevator.
Young Haru was impossibly shy, and kids were mean. Because of this, she was happily homeschooled. Her mother helped to personalize her learning, bringing in tutors when needed. It also allowed her to expand on her love of technology and her skill using it. Stating that she had been homeschooled seemed to have relieved the other New Yorker. She gave a week chuckle as the woman expressed herself, stating that she had been concerned. She seemed like a very sociable person, the opposite of Haru. But the woman seemed nice, and very friendly. And on top of that, she was from New York.
The woman asked Haru what brought her here. It was a valid question. She shrugged. "W-well, my p-parents w-wanted me to g-get a r-real job. I m-mostly make m-money from s-streaming and c-competitions... and my f-friend L-L-Leo s-said that they, w-well the m-ministry, was l-looking for s-some IT p-people.... so..." She trailed off. Wait... Haru always forgot that some wizards and witches didn't know what video games were, let alone streaming or that here were competitions. How stupid! She blushed a little, taking a big bite of pizza before she started speaking again.

▲ Finn chowed down on one of her slices as she listened intently to the other woman talk. She had a bad habit of not blinking while eating, and she could feel herself zeroing in on every word that she was being told. Real jobs were whatever, though Finn had only ever had her one as an auror. There had been a chance to change that when she moved, but taking her break and then getting back into it all helped out a lot. All things considered, dropping a building on top of herself in the middle of an arrest attempt wasn’t what she had been looking forward to by taking up her job again on the other side of the ocean. Unlike some of their contemporaries at the Ministry, Finn was in the know when it came to technology. She absolutely knew what Haru meant when saying she streamed and did competitions. While never a hardcore gamer, Finn found time to kick back and chill with the classics. Plus it calmed her dog down immensely when she wasn’t running all around the apartment in a panicked frenzy to get to work or a job. Bruce liked it when his husky brain wasn’t overclocking just as much as he liked getting the zoomies at three in the morning for no discernable reason. “No way! I mean, the IT stuff is cool and all now that it’s becoming bigger at work, but you stream?” Finn said excitedly as she forced herself to swallow the chewed up ball of sauce and cheese in her mouth. That was a choking hazard, but she was fine unless it was a cheese stick. Those always got her. @koharu ● 281 ● Cirice by Ghost MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Haru was glad to find a fellow ministry worker, not in the IT department, that knew what she was talking about. She smiled and nodded at the woman. Games had been a release, and a passion of the girls from a young age. She loved that the woman found her streaming greater than working at IT. In a way, that was how Haru saw it too. Working at the Ministry was just a way to satisfy her Asian parents. Though she was happier looking at a screen, with no one to bother you face to face. In that world, she was in control. In that world, she could be and do anything.
"Y-yea. Mostly at n-nights lately." But she was working on planning a longer stream with some friends. But she'd have to get time off for that. Haru took another bite of her disappointing pizza.
